An Author Platform? Most authors have no clue what this even is; yet it is a crucial piece to your marketing puzzle. In this video post, I share with you what an author platform is, and why you need one if you plan to succeed as an author. So, watch the video, take lots of notes, and learn what you need to do in order to build your author platform.
Book Marketing: The 4 Components to Building An Author Platform - YouTube
Since 2005, I have helped so many authors on their journey to publication. I have won awards, and accolades; built an audience and relationships on social media that have been nothing short of genuine.
But this year, I have felt a shift, and I know that it is time for a change.
Lately, I have been digging deep into mindset, and taking a deeper look at the things that actually are keeping people from living the lives they want to live.
I began to take inventory of myself, and the things that I discovered shocked me.
And then I felt a new wave of entrepreneurship wash over me; the same way it did when I started my career as a publishing consultant.
I have seen women turn their backs on their dreams because they didn’t understand the real reasons why they were not successful.
They didn’t understand why they seemed to be attracting the wrong kinds of clients; why it seemed like they had to chase clients, and why it seemed like they had to beg people to pay them.
I know the signs; I recognize them because I walked them out.
I know what it feels like to take on a client, even though you have this feeling in the pit of your stomach telling you that this person is all wrong for you.
I know, because I did it.
I remember all too well how ignoring that feeling, led me to clients that expected me to work for free.
I took on clients who wanted to negotiate my prices, and others who told me flat out what they were going to pay me.
All I could think about was that I would be able to pay my phone bill, keep the internet on for another month, and, maybe afford to take my kids out for a happy meal.
It was that bad.
My issue was not that I didn’t know what I doing, or, that I wasn’t good at my job.
My problem was not in finding clients.
My issues were in not knowing who I really wanted to serve in my business, not believing in myself, and being afraid to charge premium rates for my services.
I knew how I wanted to live my life. I knew the life I wanted to have for my kids.
But, I didn’t believe. I had a lot of doubt, hidden jealousy that I didn’t even know was there, and a host of other things that I had to deal with.
So, in my soul searching, I have decided to get back into my personal growth and development coaching.
I realized that if I was having these issues, there had to be so many other female entrepreneurs out there struggling with the same stuff.
The first thing I had to do was realize that something was definitely wrong in my business. I had to dig deep to find out what that was.
I had to change the way I saw myself, and I had to change the things that I said about myself.
I put together 25 Affirmations For Female Entrepreneurs that you can download and read out loud everyday. You can click here to download them.
My goal is to help women in business to stop repelling and resisting their own success unknowingly through doubts, negative beliefs, self-sabotage, procrastination, and other forms of resistance.
These things are our true enemies of success.
I do hope that you will continue to follow me on this journey of self-discovery, and overcome some of the things that may be holding you back from success in your own life.
When evaluating your long term goals, you have to look at everything.
I have been doing a lot of studying lately, concerning business and what it takes to be success at whatever it is that you have set out to do.
What I have learned is that there are many people who do things in an effort to attain success, but they haven’t really taken the time to think out the entire process first.
In order to experience success, you have to have a map, a strategy, to take you from where you are, to where you want to be.
You cannot skip steps in the process; each step is necessary to get from one level to the next.
So, my question to you is this; what are your long term goals? Where do you really see yourself in the future?
How do you see yourself getting there?
Since the last email I sent you, I have really been thinking about my long term goals, and where I see myself in the future. In doing so, it has made me take a long, hard, and deep look at the kinds of people I have been serving.
I had to look at each person on my list to see if they matched my vision of the person that I have on my ideal client board.
I looked at my income, at my business models, at everything.
And what I learned was that I had set some goals for myself that I haven’t hit yet, because I have been working with people based on my emotions; and that’s not good.
We cannot help everyone, no matter how bad we may want to.
If your long term goal is to earn $10,000 per month selling your books or services, you know you can’t fill your business with people who aren’t willing to pay you what you say your prices are.
If your goal is to earn $10,000 per month, the first thing you have to do is sit down and determine how much you will need to charge each person in order to hit your monthly goals.
You also need to think about the value you will be bringing to these people.
Over the years I have worked with a lot of authors, and many of them can’t see past their book. So, while they may have a long term goal of earning $10,000 a month, you would have to sell a lot of books in order to hit that goal. You would also have to write all the time, and continuously put out more books.
You have to ask yourself, honestly, is this what you see yourself doing for the next three years? Five years? Six months?
So my challenge to you is to dig deep, and really look at your goals. And then, look at what you’re doing. Are your actions lining up with your overall goals? Are the people you are working with really in line with your goals, or, do you need to change your audience of people?
Yes, you may feel emotional; you may even need the money that these people are paying, even though they are paying way less than what you know you should be charging. But, if the people are not in line with what you want, you have to politely learn to tell them no.
I hope I have said something to encourage you. Over the next few weeks, you are going to see some major changes coming to sandranpeoples.com, and how I do business. I always believe in leading by example.

“Being positive is just as contagious as being negative. Spread light where others are trying to spread darkness. Be a positive force in this world of negativity, and don’t apologize or feel bad for it. When you begin removing negative energy from your life, there will be people that become upset with you. They will say you’ve changed or that you’re acting funny. They may even distance themselves from you first. Let them.
Don’t allow anyone to make you feel bad or guilty about doing what is best for your happiness. Do not feel bad for wanting your journey in life to be a peaceful, positive one. You have one life to live. There is no reason why you should be living it surrounded in negativity. Let those people who bring negative energy find somewhere else to hang their dark clouds.”

A book marketing plan is a critical component to success as a published author.
Yet many authors tend to skimp on taking the time to put one together.
For one, they may feel that putting together a marketing plan for their book is too time consuming.
Or, they may simply find the process too confusing.
In this article, you will learn three reasons why you need a book marketing plan if you plan to succeed as an author.
Book marketing is important in crafting a strategy to getting your books in front of the right readers.
It is important to know exactly how you plan to get your books read.
A smart marketing strategy will help you to define opportunities that are available to you in your chosen book niche. You will be able to identify these opportunities because you will have to do research while crafting your plan. This research may include locating book clubs that read books in your niche, finding magazines that you could possibly advertise your book in, and so forth.
A book marketing plan will help you get clear on your target audience.
Your target audience is out there; and they are just waiting to read your book. Your job is to find that audience, and get in front of them. Putting together a marketing plan will help you to find out just who that target audience is, by causing you to do market research. Market research helps you to create a customer avatar. A customer avatar is a fictional person you create that symbolizes the type of person you see yourself working with, or in this case; who you want to sell your books to.
Being clear on your ideal audience, aka, your readers, will help you to have laser focus on how and what it is that you need to do in order to reach them.
Your book marketing plan will help you stay focused on marketing.
Yes, you read that right. Your marketing plan will help you to stay focused on task at hand; and that is marketing your book. Marketing is very important. If you don’t learn how to market your book, you will not sell any books, and that is the truth.
Most authors just want to focus on writing the book, and not on how they will market it. That is a costly mistake that far too many authors make.
Content marketing is crucial for building your presence online.
But with so many platforms to choose from, which one is best for you?
In a recent article I posted on LinkedIn, I shared four things to consider when choosing a platform. I believe that everyone has that one main platform that truly works for them, and that is the one that they should focus the bulk of their time and energy preparing content for. Why overwhelm yourself? If it’s working for you, that’s what you stick with.
If you are an author, this video will help you understand why it is important to have a strategy to market and promote your books.
I went live on Facebook one day to address a concern that I get from many authors. They don’t understand that in order for your books to sell, you have to be constantly engaged in marketing and promoting. And not just marketing and promoting for the sake of doing so; but doing it smartly.
You, as an author, are responsible for your own success or failure. Therefore, if you are going to be in the business of writing and publishing books, you had better take some time to learn what works in this industry, and what doesn’t.
You may not believe it, but, there really is a reason why your books aren’t selling…
Hey, it’s Sandra.
Today’s post is for you if you are an Author who is so tired of struggling, tired of trying to figure out how to put all of the pieces together in order to finally see the kind of success you have been longing for as an Author.
I completely understand how frustrating it can be to put in all the hard work of writing a book, only to put it out there and not see the kind of results you thought you would.
I myself know firsthand what it is like to write a book, upload it to Amazon, or some other platform, and not see any downloads.
I have cried. I have asked other authors who have published books in the same genre of me what could I possibly be doing wrong, and have even quit a few times on my career as a writer. I mean, let’s face it, if you write a book, and nobody downloads it, that must mean that you suck at writing, right?
It does not mean that you suck at writing; it does mean that you just haven’t tapped into YOUR audience.
As an Author, it is so important to build an audience of people, who will be eagerly awaiting each and every book you put out there to sell.
Your audience is the key to how well you will do as an Author.
So, how do you build this audience?
You have to put yourself out there.
Think about it. When your favorite Actor comes out with a new movie, what do you do?
You go and you see that movie more than likely because they are in the movie, right?
How do you even know that the person is an Actor or Actress?
You probably see them on social media, a few commercials, in other movies.
You see these people. You learn of their existence.
That’s what you have to do for your audience. You must make yourself visible.
So, in 2018, I am launching a few new programs designed to teach authors how to build their platforms so that they can get in front of their audience.
Am I going to teach you how to get millions of followers?
No. I don’t have millions of followers. But I do have thousands.
I am going to teach you how to build YOUR own following of people, who are excited about what YOU have to offer.
Once your build YOUR audience, and YOUR platform, so that you can connect with YOUR readers and finally see
sales from your book(s).
You are going to see a lot more training from me in the coming months concerning being an Author and Entrepreneur, so stay tuned. Well, it’s January. So many people make resolutions for the new year, but how many ever stick to them. I’m not gonna lie; I made a resolution at the end of 2016 concerning my health. I want to do more this year than last year, and I knew that my health was playing a huge factor in the level of energy that I had.
So, I took to the internet. One of the main problems that I had was trying to learn to eat right. For years I have struggled with portion control. I am a short woman, standing only five feet two, so it doesn’t take much food to fill me up. Yet, I had taught myself that even though I felt full, I should keep eating because a few bites of food wasn’t enough.
I took inventory of the types of food that I was eating, and I found that I was eating a lot of food with high fructose corn syrup in it. My sodium intake was too high as well. I didn’t want to deprive myself of taste, or completely give up on sweets; but, what was my alternative?
While researching online, I stumbled upon the Daniel Fast. When you go to the site, you are given the opportunity to sign up to learn what types of food to eat to help you not only be more healthier, but lose weight without deprivation. Yes, you do have to give up junk, but, you find plenty of health alternatives, such as fruits and vegetables, which are better for you anyway. Plus, as I get closer to turning forty, I am eager to learn how to eat better so that I can lead a healthy life.
Smoothies are a great way to ‘eat’ healthy. I found a few smoothie recipes that help you get in a good mix of fruits and vegetables without having to sit down and eat a meal. I like smoothies because you can mix them up and take them with you. They are the true convenience food.
Don’t quit on your resolution. Think about the reason why you decided you wanted to make that change in the first place. Is it because you wanted to be able to buy smaller clothes? Or, if your resolution was business related, was it because you wanted to experience the life of an entrepreneur? Whatever your reason may have been for setting your goal for the year, stick with it. There is no reason why you should decide that you are not worth having the goal that you set for yourself.
So, I know that this title is really ratchet for a post about being successful, but it is the truth.
People are lying to themselves, saying that they want success, but their actions say something totally different. Their priorities are all screwed up.
For some reason, people think the mere thought of success will be enough to actually help them experience it.
Sorry to burst your bubble, but, it doesn’t work like that.
In order to experience a type of success that you have never seen before, you must do something different.
Being an entrepreneur is a great career choice; but it is not for everyone. There are some who are better suited as an employee, and that is fine. But if you are going to decide to throw your hat in the ring to become an entrepreneur, you had better be ready to work; hard. You had better be ready to face rejection; even from those you love. And, you had better be ready to be elevated; you have to prepare yourself.
Why most people are not successful
Some entrepreneurs never see the kind of success they want in their businesses because they don’t take what they do seriously. They say they want to make major moves, but they never move. Your business is supposed to grow, not remain stagnant. If you are still making the same money you made last year working for yourself, with no projections to change that, you may as well just quit playing games and go back to work.
You have to plan for success. What will you do when you start actually earning the kind of money you want to in your business? How will you react? Will you go and blow it all on some shoes and clothes, or, will you invest some of it back into your business?
If you have never had a large sum of money before, you need to start learning how to handle large sums of money so that you can be prepared for it when it comes.
What are you doing to accommodate for the swarms of people you’ve been calling in to your business everyday? You do speak over your business everyday, right? If not, you should start doing that.
Change the way you have been doing things if you want to finally see the kind of results you’ve been dreaming of for your life as an entrepreneur.
The first thing you should do right now, is make a list of all the things you have been doing concerning your business. How many hours do you spend actually working, versus perusing social media aimlessly?
How many people have you reached out to about your business?
Who have you introduced yourself to today that could possibly partner with you in your business?
The next thing you need to do is prepare. How will you know if you have arrived if you don’t even know where you’re going?
If your goal is to serve a thousand people this year, what do you need to do in order to make that happen?
Can you deposit a million dollars in the bank, or, do you have to get a safe for that much money?
Stop playing around in your business, yet claiming to want success.
Get up and take action. Get busy.
You can’t just sit around and confess what you want all day and do nothing. Action is required.
