Hurricane Florence is packing a wallop in the Atlantic, with Tropical Storms Helena, Isaac and Joyce following behind.  So, what will happen if a hurricane just happens to coincide with your cruise?  What if you can’t return to the port that you sailed out of?  And what about after a hurricane?  Will you be able to go to your scheduled ports? Atlantic Hurricane Season runs from June 1 through November 30th. Peak hurricane season is from mid-July through early October.  Your best chance to

We just spent a long weekend in Orlando, and our visit there was just to visit Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom.  It’s one of my favorite places to vacation (when I’m not cruising). How does someone who loves quiet learn to love the Mouse so much?  Well, it started out many years ago when we went to The Magic Kingdom on our honeymoon.  It truly was a magical time, and I was hooked for life.  And I’m afraid that it was contagious, because my kids are hooked too.  It’s my favorite place to go

Ahoy mates, as Virgin Voyages would say.  I’ve always been a fan of Sir Richard Branson and his Virgin brands, so when I heard that he was going to start his own cruise line, I was excited.  And now that I’ve read and seen more about the cruise line and ship, I’m even more excited.  Virgin has more than 60 companies worldwide, employing 71,000 people in 35 countries, starting with Virgin Records in London in the 1970’s.  As for Sir Richard, on top of being an entrepreneur and an author, he

To be perfectly honest, I’ve never gone on a cruise where I didn’t gain a few pounds.  I have to admit that it’s easy for me to go on a cruise with good intentions, and then get totally sidetracked.  I always go on a cruise intending to use the gym, and determined to avoid most carbs.  But…then I get lazy and see chocolate melting cake on the menu and there go all my good intentions.  So, how can you realistically limit the weight you gain, or gain no weight at all?  You have to be

Okay, let’s be realistic, for a lot of you not all of your vacations are going to be cruises. There are way too many exciting things out there in this beautiful world to see just to stick to the sea!  Check out this guest post if you’ve ever considered a safari.  Sounds incredibly exciting to me. A safari is one of the most fun trips you could ever go on. But what if it’s your first one? Chances are you’re nervous as well as excited, which is natural when you’re about to try something

Okay, I know it hasn’t been that long since my last cruise, but we were no sooner off of that cruise on Freedom of the Seas that we started thinking about our next.  Yes, we are addicted.  I’m hoping that Carnival will match Royal Caribbean’s offer of free internet during the cruise so that I can blog daily like I did with Freedom of the Seas and Oasis of the Seas.  If not, I’ll review the ship when I get back and post on my Facebook page. We’ve been to the same old ports so many times that

We are pretty much budget conscious cruisers, which is why we are very careful when we book cruises to get the best deal available.  I pour through cruise.com to find out which cruise lines have the best deals, and then I go to the cruise line’s website to see what I can find that matches up with the cruise we want to take.  So, why in the world would I voluntarily forfeit my $100 non-refundable cruise deposit?  Read on… We’ve been wanting to do a Cuba cruise for quite some time, and with

Okay, you’ve probably heard it…..”you will be tendering at this port”.  So, what exactly does that mean? It’s actually quite simple.  A tender is basically a water taxi that will pick you up at the ship and then drop you off at the port of call.   Some of the reasons that you would need to use a tender instead of having the ship just dock at the pier are that either the area around the port is not deep enough for a ship to sail into or there are protected coral formations near the shore,
