Some time during beta, the Hanamura map had a poster of D.va at the Arcade Room several months before the hero was announced. The Dorado map had a mysterious Sombra mentioned in the newspapers found on the ground, long before the hero was announced. Wrecking Ball has been a poster in Junkertown all along for several months since its launch (September 20, 2017).

This is the poster in Junkertown. It is in this location where Hammond landed after taking a ride on a life pod attached to Winston’s rocket. Wrecking Ball became the champion of Junkertown’s arena — and it has been right there in the poster all along.

Be very sharp next time Blizzard releases a new map. You never know what clues about the next hero might pop somewhere in the map.

Jeff Kaplan announced the new tank hero Wrecking Ball. It is not an Omnic, but a mech with an AI that allows Hammond (the hamster) to talk. Hammond is unable to speak, like Winston does.

Hammond built an escape pod and attached it to Winston’s rocket to escape the Horizon Lunar Station. While Winston landed at Gibraltar, Hammond landed near Junkertown in Australia.

Hammond is not a member of the Junkers, but participated in their arena battles and won several championships.

Hammond can shift into ball mode with a grappling hook, or switch into a tank with quad-cannons. He also has an adaptive shield which gets increased when surrounded by four enemies players.

His ultimate leaves a minefield in an area.

Blizzard Entertainment dropped two teasers for the upcoming Hero 28… and it is not what you were expecting: Hammond. However, there is a monkey in the posters seen on the wall, which might hint Hammond created Hero 28.

Hammond is supposed to be a chimpanzee with high-intellect, because he underwent same experiment protocols as Winston. In the case of Hammond, he seems to be an engineer like Torbjorn. Did Hammond also create the hamster? Is Hammond the hamster?

Well, technically, Hammond has never been referenced to be a chimpanzee. All we have read or seen in the Lunar Colony is that they had Apes, Chimpanzees, and Orangutans.

Symmetra has been reworked completely visually and mechanically. The Overwatch Team decided to remove the “Defense” type and merged previous Defense heroes into “Damage.” Symmetra is no longer Support. Now she is in the Damage category.

Photon Projector: Left-button works like before with new graphics and sounds. Short-range beam weapon with increasing damage. Damaging Barriers does not consume ammunition. However, the right-button has some interesting changes. Hold to charge, release to fire explosive orb. What’s cool about it? Before, you could shoot one orb per sec. Now you can spam 3 orbs per sec with barely no delay.

Sentry Turret: Deploy a small turret that damages and slows enemies. Gone are the days when you had to walk close to a wall and place your turrets. You can stand still, and aim your cursor anywhere you want and shoot the turret as a missile. The turret then attaches itself where you aimed. Better yet, the turret activates while in transit to attack whatever is within its trajectory. You can now have 3 turrets (instead of 6).

Teleporter: The teleporter is no longer a Ultimate Ability. The Teleporter ability replaced the barrier projection ability. Create Two teleporters that enable instant travel between them. The way this works is you aim your cursor at the area you want the exit teleporter to be. The entrance automatically spawns in front of Symmetra. The teleporter ability has a 12 second cooldown, and the portal will remain open for the same lapse of time. To teleport you need to hold “F” down in front of the portal.

Ultimate: Photon Barrier: Deploy a massive energy barrier. The barrier will cover the entire map. This one might be good when the enemy Soldier: 76 and McCree pop their Ultimate. A well place barrier to protect the team from D.Va’s ultimate as well.

The latest Overwatch PTR patch 1.25.0.0 introduced a Symmetra rework, and balance changes for Doomfist, and Orisa. Multiple bug fixes for several heroes, and map updates.

The Horizon Lunar Colony has been heavily edited with known access points closed, and new access points added, including a new stairs to access the catwalk above the Point A, and shield pads placed at the catwalk to take cover behind.

Most intriguing? Specimen 8’s room is now open for exploration, and this might be a big smiley-face hint that Specimen 8 (aka Hammond) is coming to Overwatch as a new Hero. Hammond is a chimpanzee. You can read more about him here (that was the May 2017 article where the Horizon Lunar Colony was first introduced in the PTR.

To see how the Specimen 8’s Room looked like in Live servers go here.

Read the patch notes below.

Endorsements

Acknowledge your fellow Overwatch players’ positivity with endorsements! Recognize commendable behavior for sportsmanship, being a good teammate, or for shot calling. Commend players who lead you to victory, put the team’s needs above their own, or exhibit humility in victory or grace in defeat. Endorsements are readily available to view on Career Profiles, the Groups menu, and more so you can tell at a glance the types of players you’re playing with. Those who consistently maintain a high endorsement level will receive periodic rewards, while those who display negative behavior or accrue suspensions will lose their endorsements.

Looking for Group

Play your way using the Looking for Group feature! You can craft your gameplay experience before stepping into Team Select by using specific parameters to create your dream team. Join a team of other like-minded players or lead a group of your own by creating a group with your personal preferences such as game mode, role enforcement, and more. Those who want to queue up for Quick Play, Play vs AI, or any competitive mode can set the types of roles others can play. These specifications will then be activated in-game (e.g. players who chose a Support role will be restricted to only using heroes in that category).

  • All heroes in the Defense and Offense categories have been merged into a new category: Damage

Developer Comments: Since the line between Offense and Defense heroes has become increasingly blurred, we’ve decided to group all those heroes into a single new “Damage” category. We believe that the term more closely matches the role name used in Overwatch League and across most of our community.

  • Combat can now be heard 25% further away

  • Changed the name of the Varok spray to Saurfang

  • Added an Inspire Uptime Percentage statistic for Brigitte on the Career Profile

  • Removed some statistics for Symmetra on the Career Profile

  • Added a Scoped Critical Hit Accuracy statistic for Widowmaker on the Career Profile

  • [PC] Players must have Blizzard SMS Protect enabled on their account to be eligible for the Top 500

  • Career Profiles will no longer be public by default (now defaults to Friends Only). An option to make Career Profiles visible has been added under Options > Social > Profile Visibility

GAME BROWSER AND CUSTOM GAMES

  • Symmetra can now be played in 1v1 duel game modes (e.g. 1v1 Limited Duel and 1v1 Mystery Duel)

Horizon Lunar Colony

Point A

  • Added a staircase on the right when exiting the hydroponics room
  • Removed the door to the lower room on the right
  • Removed the small wall on the catwalk above Point A
  • Added some cover walls to the catwalk area
  • Moved the door next to the staircase that led to Winston’s room
  • The door is now on the side of the wall in the training pit
  • Moved the large health pack to the back of the room
  • Removed some clutter in the upper left computer room

Hydroponics Room

  • Switched the positions of the large and small health pack
  • Changed some of the hydroponic plant cover on the right side

Point B

  • Defender spawn room exits moved from the front to the sides out of direct line of fire
  • Small rooms added at spawn room exits
  • Additional cover added near the spawn room exits
  • Added a route and larger platform leading to the back right corner
  • Raised the platform to the same height as the attackers’ platform on the opposite side of the point
  • The location of the old defender exit is now an alcove with a small health pack
  • Both teams can still pass behind the point, but there is now a cut-through in the middle of the wall for better access.
  • The area above the window overlooking the point is now covered
  • A large platform with cover has been attached to the left side of the catwalk
  • The upper platform for the attackers has been reduced
  • The doorway leading to the platform is slightly smaller

Developer Comments: We’ve wanted to make some gameplay improvements to Horizon Lunar Colony for some time now. The defenders’ spawn room had a problem with its main exit that allowed defenders to quickly duck back inside and regain health while attackers shot at them without doing damage. Since we were already reworking the entire back area, we decided to make some more changes addressing player feedback. The idea behind the rework of Point A was to not only help the defenders a bit, but also provide some gameplay options aside from sitting on the point and trying to hold it for as long as possible. Easier access to high ground, as well as limiting the routes for attackers (or at least allowing for defenders to more easily spot the attackers), will allow more opportunity for counters and create a better gameplay experience.

We’ve made a lot of additions and changes to the art throughout the map for you to discover as well.

The tickets to attend the Overwatch League Grand Finals have sold out at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Impressive. That’s almost the amount of tickets to fill up BlizzCon at the Anaheim Convention Center. The event will be held there through July 27-28. You can watch the Grand Finals at Twitch.tv/OverwatchLeague

Fans purchased more than 20,000 tickets to the esports championship in Brooklyn, New York. The largest esports event ever slated at Barclays Center sold out within two weeks of its public on-sale date.

IRVINE, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Jun. 1, 2018– Tickets to the first-ever Overwatch League Grand Finals have sold out. The competition to determine the champions of the world’s first major global, city-based esports league will be held over July 27–28 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. More than 20,000 tickets were snapped up following the public on-sale date on Friday, May 18, marking the largest esports event ever slated at Barclays Center.

“We knew the Overwatch League had amazing, enthusiastic fans, but this is something else,” said Overwatch League commissioner Nate Nanzer. “We’re incredibly excited to play to a packed house at one of the world’s premier sports and entertainment arenas. With the help of our broadcast team, our partners, and Barclays Center, we’re going to put on a first-class show for everyone in attendance, and for the millions more who will be watching online.”

“We are thrilled with the momentum behind the Overwatch League Grand Finals,” said Keith Sheldon, EVP of Programming, BSE Global. “Our goal at Barclays Center is to be the destination for major esports events. That vision is taking shape as a result of a great partnership with the talented team behind the Overwatch League.”

The Grand Finals is the culmination of the Overwatch League’s inaugural season, which kicked off with the first regular-season matchup on January 10. Play has continued over four thrilling stages since then, each capped by a Stage Finals. The Stage 4 Finals are scheduled for June 17, and will be followed by the Overwatch League Playoffs, from July 11–21, at Blizzard Arena Los Angeles, in Burbank, California. Tickets to all remaining regular-season matches and playoffs are now available from AXS.com. During the playoffs, six teams will battle to punch their ticket to Brooklyn and Barclays Center. The two teams that reach the Grand Finals will compete for a share of the USD $1.4 million prize pool, the Overwatch League trophy, and to capture history as the league’s inaugural champions.

The Overwatch League Grand Finals will be streamed live from Barclays Center on Twitch, OverwatchLeague.com and the Overwatch League app, and on MLG.com.

Exploring the Petra map in solo mode allowed me to observe in more detail some information the story developers planted around some areas.

For example, there is a laptop with two email messages, and also a tablet that say:

Survey of the uppermost levels of the temple is almost complete, planning for excavation of the lower chambers. Our greatest finds so far are the statues of Hera, Athena, and Aphrodite, and we are hopeful they will be the first of many.

IDannidis - 10:22AM

Early Imaging pass has revealed a hidden chamber. Al-Hamdan believes that it might be a significant find, and we have found a narrow opening through which we can perform further excavation.

Faisal - 10:37AM

... started excavation of the hidden treasure chamber from our recent imaging survey. If there was another method of access in the past, we have not yet discovered it.

Thank you for your continued funding of our Petra explorations, ongoing work in Illios, and the new project in Thailand. Dr. Nachareon is eager to begin! With so many sites under threat, your contributions make it possible for us to continue this important work.

- H. Faisal

There is another laptop with a login screen. His username is Hamid. Thus, now we know his full name is Hamid Faisal.

All this sounds cool, but there is no hint of a new map in the horizon. There is already a Thailand map named AYUTTHAYA (Capture the Flag mode). However, there doesn’t seem to be any excavations there, is it?

So one has to wonder if there will be a new Thailand map location to show this excavation.

Correction: @JoshKneale94 informs me that Petra — in real-life — is located in Jordan.

Most of the maps we have seen so far in Overwatch, eventually we have had a Hero representing that map location (or vice versa). Some examples:

Rio de Janeiro Summer Games (Brazil): Lucio
Temple of Anubis (Cairo, Egypt): Ana
Volskaya (Russia): Zarya
Horizon Lunar Colony: Winston
Hanamura (Japan): Genji & Hanzo
Eichenwalde (Germany): Reinhardt
King’s Row (London, England): Tracer
Numbani (Africa): Doomfist & Orisa
Nepal (Asia): Zenyatta
Oasis (Irak): Moira
Dorado (Mexico): Sombra
Junkertown (Australia): Junkrat
Route 66 (Santa Fe, New Mexico USA): McCree
Chateau Guillard (France): Widowmaker
Ecopoint: Antarctica: Mei (but she’s from Xi’an, China)

Maps that don’t have a Hero:

Lijiang Tower (China)
Rialto (Venice, Italy)
Watchpoint: Gibraltar (Winston was there in the cinematic, but while it is located near Spain, it is a British territory, and a complicated governance history)
Ilios & Petra (Greece)
Hollywood (California, USA)

Heroes without a Map:

Torbjorn & Brigitte (Gothenburg, Sweden)
Soldier: 76 (USA)
Reaper (Unknown, USA)
Bastion (Unknown)
D.va (Busan, South Korea)
Symmetra (Utopaea, India)
Mercy (Zurich, Switzerland)
Pharah (Giza, Egypt)

Blizzard Entertainment released the Petra Deathmatch Map and all the Anniversary skins are now available for purchase and via Loot Boxes.

ANNIVERSARY SKINS (NEW & OLD)

PETRA MAP (VIDEO)

I rarely play as Torbjorn, but wanted to had fun in Deathmatch. Reached 6th. There are many places where Torb can place the turrets. Widowmaker has places where to snipe from as well. The winner of this match was a player playing as Moira.

The second attempt, I played as Moira. I didn’t win, and rarely use her for offense, but reached 3rd.
