And as of the writing of this article, it ranks at number 3 (after Pinterest)!

Chalene is a New York Times bestselling author and hosts one of the highest ranking business podcasts out there! She’s the definition of being “on fire” and with her numerous Academies, she’s helped thousands of people define and design their brand, and build the business of their dreams!

Now, Chalene has focused on Instagram. Why? Because Instagram is blowing up! It’s the hottest trend out there and, if used properly, it can bring tremendous results for your business! So let’s dive deeper into her findings!

Instagram for Business

Disclaimer: You should convert your Instagram Account to a Business Account!

Here’s the deal. Before you learn how to run, you need to learn how to walk.

That’s why before you begin to use Instagram, you need to make sure you know the ABCs of your business. And that boils down to discovering 2 things:

  • Who your Lifer is — you may have heard of it referred to also as a “customer avatar”. Lifer, in this case, means “you 5 minutes/hours/years ago”. It’s the 1 person you know everything about and the 1 person you imagine when you create and market your product.
  • What makes you uniquely YOU — it’s very simple. If you don’t know who you are, you won’t stand out from the crowd. And if you don’t stand out from the crowd, you’ll never be successful. Now that we have that out of the way, let’s turn our attention to Instagram itself.

The Truth About Instagram Today

With the recent updates, Instagram is now 5 different platforms all combined into one!

OMGeee! Really?!

Yes! Let’s take a look. You have:

  • Regular Instagram feed where you can post pictures;
  • New Instagram feed where you can post videos, picture carousels, etc.;
  • Snapchat with Instagram Stories;
  • Periscope with the ability to go Live;
  • YouTube with IGTV!

That sounds so overwhelming!

It really does. But don’t worry! If you know what you’re doing, everything will seem as easy as 1-2-3!

Newsfeed vs Stories

So where should you spend most of your time and efforts? Should you focus on posting gorgeous images on your Feed or should you invest time in Stories?

Fact of the matter is, it all depends on your goals.

#1: Newsfeed

Here is where you attract NEW followers. That’s right! The best way to bring in fresh people is to focus on putting together beautiful images with captions! And of course having a hashtag strategy that will put you in front of your lifers.

#2: Stories

Here is where you get deeper with your existing followers. Stories are raw and they allow people to get to know you! And you know what happens then? People start to like and trust you! And we all know that people do business with people they know, like and trust. So it’s a win-win!

Instagram Stories

Did you know that the average person spends about 53 min per day on Instagram? Yes, that’s the window of opportunity you have to catch your people’s attention and build trust with them!

We know, we know… that’s not a very long time. But that’s where Instagram Stories come in! Because they’re the fastest way to create deep and meaningful relationships with your customers!

Ideally, you should post 3-5 Stories per day.

That’s so much!

Not if you know what you’re posting about! And Chalene has a ridiculously cool formula called REDIC that will help you do just that!

These are the 5 types of Stories you should publish every single day, and what REDIC stands for:

  • Relatable — this post shouldn’t have anything to do with your business, but rather it should be something people can relate to (like preparing breakfast, going to the gym, etc.);
  • Educate/Enlighten/Entertain — in other words you should motivate your audience;
  • Dialogue in the DMs — this is where all that Curiosity Marketing comes in! Create a Story that will provoke and invite people to talk to you;
  • Interaction — Instagram loves engagement, so do a Story where you ask people to take a physical action (like answer a poll or double tap or swipe left on your carousel);
  • Capture e-mails — this is a more advanced strategy but basically, it refers to driving people to your website and/or a freebie you’re using!

Phew! Is your brain getting all busy with this gorgeous information?

And Chalene has a few more incredible tricks up her sleeve!

Because here’s the thing… This last type of Story in which you Capture people’s e-mails — it can be tricky. Because if you have 10,000+ followers, then you can do a simple swipe up with link. BUT! If you have less than 10,000 followers, you won’t have that opportunity.

So what can you do?

Quick Replies

Imagine you create a Poll, asking people, “Do you want my 3 recommendations for XYZ (problem)?”, and they have to answer, “Yes” or “No”.

Once that’s done, go to your Insights (IMP: make sure you have a Business Account) and check out all the people who replied with “Yes”. Now go to their profiles and send each one of them a message with your link!

How simple is that?!

And are you ready for the BEST part?

You don’t have to type out your answer to each individual separately. That’s right! You can just go to Your page —> Settings —> Business Settings —> Quick Replies! There you can add as many variations as you’d like! And ta-daaa! Now you can send your people a personal message within seconds!

Text Replacement

You want to do the same for your comments? Not to worry!

You have the same type of function on your phone! Just go to Settings —> General —> Keyboard —> Text Replacement!

Now you’re all set and ready to crush it on Instagram!

But when all is said and done, how do you keep the people you’ve gathered over time in your Group engaged, and inspired?… Try hosting a Facebook Watch Party! It’s the bomb dot com right now and as with any Live video, the Facebook algorithm is in love with it!

Fun fact: people spend 8X longer and comment 10X more on Live videos compared to any other pre-recorded video or replay! Wow! Those numbers are crazy!

And yet, they’re true! That’s why Facebook loves Live video so much. So why not take advantage of it? That’s what a Facebook Watch Party is all about!

So how does it work?

Take an existing public video (shared on a business page, for example), and Livestream it inside your private Facebook Group. That’s it!

The engagement you’ll get will be much higher than if you were to just “share” that very same video. That way you’ll be able to start more conversations, get more eyes on valuable content, and increase your overall credibility! It’s a Win-Win!

Hosting a Facebook Watch Party Step #1: Create a Party!

Go to your private Facebook Group.

Important: Make sure you’re the Admin of the Group. If you’re not, first ask for permission to host the Watch Party!

Step #2: “Write Something”!

Go to “Write something”. There you’ll see different options. Click on the one that says “Watch Videos Together”.

Step #3: A Compelling Description!

Spend a hot minute or two, coming up with a compelling description for your Watch Party. Make it fun and interesting, so people would want to join!

PRO Tip: If you’re planning to do a Watch Party on a certain topic, promote it inside and outside of your Group to create buzz and excitement ’cause why not?

Step #4: Add Your Videos!

In the Search bar, you’ll be able to choose among several options:

    • Search — find videos on Facebook;
    • Pages — videos from your Business Page, for example;
    • Watched — videos you’ve already seen;
    • Group — videos that have already been uploaded inside the Group;
    • Live — Live videos;
  • Saved — videos you’ve saved before;
  • Suggested — recommended videos.

For the purposes of this tutorial, I’ll select a video from our Business Page. You’re able to add more to videos to your queue.

Step #5: Get the Party Started!

Click on “Done” and ta-daaa! “Your Watch Party is about to begin!”

Important: Remember that whatever you do with the videos during a Watch Party, your people will see the exact same thing.

That means that if you want to fast-forward, they’ll also see the video skipping. So be careful how you handle your Livestream! And if you want to change the video you’re currently playing, simply click on “Add Video” —> Choose another one —> “Play Now”.

Step #6: Engage with People!

Once the Livestream has started, you’ll be able to chat with everyone who’s on. See how they like the video, if they want some part of it to be repeated or if they want another video altogether!

Want to get even more engagement? Invite Group members to join you! Go to the bottom, left-hand corner of your screen and click on the avatar circle.

Step #7: End the Party

When it’s time for the Watch Party to finish, all you have to do is go to the 3 dots in the top, right-hand corner of the screen, and click on “End Party”.

And that’s it! How simple was that? As soon as you go Live, you’ll start to see people hopping on your broadcast: watching, commenting, and sharing!

Inside the training today, I’ll show you a step-by-step tutorial of how you can do exactly that! Let’s dive in!

What’s the secret to our awesome Facebook Live features? We use a third-party tool called BeLiveTV! So in today’s tutorial, we’ll focus on it and all the cool options it offers! Let’s jump right in!

Important Note: Please, make sure you’re using your computer for this!

BeLive.TV

Before we get to the really good part, you’d need to create an account. So go to BeLive.TV and  sign up.

They offer 3 different pricing plans but before you make the decision to upgrade, try it out for FREE! Make sure you love the service as much as I do, before you pay for it.

Now that we have that out of the way, let’s look at your broadcasting options:

  • Solo — for a regular Facebook Live, where you show up on your own (with the added awesomeness of the BeLive features, of course)!
  • Interview — will you be interviewing someone? Then this is the option for you!
  • Talk Show — invite several people to join you! You also have the option to share your screen with your audience!
Host A Broadcast

How do you do that?

Go to “Host a Broadcast”, and choose if you want to go Solo, do an Interview or have a Talk Show. For the purposes of this tutorial, I’ll choose to host a Talk Show.

Then, you need to decide where to go Live. And the options are:

  • Personal timeline;
  • Business Page you manage;
  • Group;
  • Test (for your eyes only)!

I’ll choose to go Live on our Business Page, and then I’ll take a minute or two to come up with a captivating description of my broadcast. This is really important because you need to tell your audience why they should join you!

Extra Feature: “Create a scheduled Facebook Live”. This feature allows you to post the description of your broadcast on your page, and it will show up as a Reminder! When people click on it, Facebook will notify them when you’re going Live! That way you’ll be able to share your GENIUS with even MORE people! Is that amazing or what?!

Add Your Branding

We’re finally coming to the core of this training — the custom frames!

Next to the “Create Broadcast” button, you’ll notice another one, called “Add Your Branding”. That’s the one I absolutely LOVE!

When you click on it, it will give you the options to add:

  • Logo;
  • Brand Colors;
  • Designed Frames!

And inside “Designed Frames” is where the MAGIC happens! BeLive gives you a few options for pre-designed frames, which are really awesome. But we took it one step further. We had our designer create several custom frames just for us!

And if you want to do the same, you could use websites like 99designs.com or fiverr.com!

Once you upload your NEW design, click on “Save branding” and then simply “Create Broadcast”!

Welcome to the Production Studio!

You’re not Live yet! Now, you’re waiting in the Lobby (or the Dashboard) of your Broadcast. And while you wait, BeLive gives you tips and tricks for success! How cool is that?

You have the option to connect your camera (which is what I did), upload a picture to be featured during your Live or share your screen! Once you do that, click on “^ to Broadcast” and you’re DONE!

You’ll see how your Live will look like in the top right-hand corner of your screen.

Now all you have to do is “Start Broadcast” and dazzle everyone with your AWESOMENESS!

Extra Feature: On Screen Updates! It allows you to send on-screen messages to your viewers!

IMPORTANT: When you schedule a show, you need to go Live from the same place where you scheduled the broadcast! That way, the Reminder post you have on your page, will automatically turn into a Live Broadcast!

And here’s the thing: stage makeup is different from everyday makeup. When you’re creating videos, a good rule of thumb is: more is better. It looks good on camera and when you add a pop of color to your look, your audience will notice, and you’ll stop the scroll! How amazing is that?

For this training, I brought in a very special guest — one of my dearest friends and a BRILLIANT makeup artist, Shokoufeh Safavi! Shokoufeh has been crushing the makeup and cosmetics industry for about 6 years, and today, she’ll share her GENIUS with us!

Levels of Makeup Application

Did you know that makeup application comes in at 3 different levels? When you know which level you are, it’s easier to know how you can elevate your look! So let’s talk about them!

Level 1: Little to no makeup

You feel comfortable going out of the house with a clear face, and every now and then, you may put on a little mascara.

Level 2: Medium makeup

Eyeliner, mascara, and the occasional lipstick are your go-to products. Whatever the combination, you like to get ready before you present yourself to the world.

Level 3: A little extra sparkle

That’s my kind of makeup! I know it’s not for everyone, but I just love the way I feel when I put on a little extra glam!

So how can you elevate your look?

Be YOU times 2 with your makeup, as well as with your energy! That’s the key to any successful video!

So now that we have all that cleared and out of the way, let’s dive deeper into how you can turn my day makeup into stage makeup!

Step #1: Brightening of the Under-eye

Use a highlighter that’s a shade or two lighter than your foundation. Take a flat brush and use what we call the “triangle method”.

Draw a triangle under your eyes and fill it in. Then press the product into your undereye and blend it in. It will give you an instant lift and it will make your eyes look amazing, especially on camera!

Step #2: Foundation

Apply your favorite foundation with a big brush. Try to stay away from what you just did under your eyes. Stipple the makeup — that will even out your skin tone.

PRO Tip: Use a setting (also called “translucent”) powder, so your makeup will last longer!

Step #3: Bronzer and Blush

Or it can be blush and bronzer — it’s up to you!

Take a little blush and dab it into your hand, so you don’t put too much product on your face. Then smile and apply the blush on the apple of your cheek. And from then on, you can build up and make it as strong as you’d like!

Next, it’s time for the bronzer! Pick a color that’s a shade darker than your foundation. Apply it from the top of your forehead, down to the middle of your cheek, so it forms a nice, big “C”! Then turn that “C” into a “3”, and bring the brush down to the base of your jawline.

Ta-da! Your basic stage make up is now complete!

Ninja Tip: Add a Highlighter

To complete your look, use a little highlighter where the light hits your face. Those are the high points: forehead, cheekbones, top of your nose, and chin.

Remember: always blend your makeup!

And the final result is A-mazing! Is Shokoufeh the bomb dot com or what?!

First things first — reality check! Most entrepreneurs out there show up and immediately go for the sale. And guess what? They’re not very successful.

Think of your audience as a bank account. When you’re brand new, your account is empty. So you need to make deposits often! Build that relationship with your followers. Increase your credibility and when they start seeing you as someone they can trust, that’s when the real magic starts to happen!

Not sure how to make that happen? Stick to the 80/20 Value-to-Promotion Rule.

Show up 80% of the time and deliver generic value — lessons, insights, tidbits of information about you, etc. That builds trust. And the other 20% of time — do curiosity posts or direct promotions. Simple, right?

We usually talk a lot about generic value. So inside the training today, we’ll focus on the other side of the coin — the 20%. We’ll dive deeper into what YOU can do in order to ask for the sale in a credible and non-salesy way! Excited? Let’s GO!

Tip #1: Tell A Story

Why do we love stories so much? Have you ever thought about that? The simple fact is that we learn best when the information comes in the form of a story. That’s how we’ve been programmed. And that’s what sells!

Yes, one of the best strategies you can use in your business is to just… tell a story! And always go back the core — WHY you do what you do. Why do you love the company you work for (without saying the name); why do you love your product; why do you love being an entrepreneur, etc.?

Your goal is to generate a lead, not to make a sale on the spot. So weave your why and your story into the conversation, and let people reach out to you. And when they do, that’s when you tell them the name of your company, you ATM them, send them a YouTube video or use whatever other system that’s working for you!

Tip #2: Show People How It’s Done

Do you know what are some of the most watched videos? Tutorials and How-To videos!

People are always looking for a solution to their problems. That’s why such content is doing so well! And the more you create, the more people will start to see you as an expert. What was it that people do with experts they know, like, and trust? Oh, that’s right — they want to do business with them!

So think of creative ways to educate your audience about the value of your product. Show them how to create success with your product or business. And give them a call to action (CTA) such as, “If you loved the results and you want to find out more information, send me a private message!”. So simple, and so effective!

Tip #3: Interview Your Customers / Teammates / Etc.

People l-o-v-e to share their experiences. Especially, if they’re A-mazing! Sometimes, people need to hear someone else’s opinion. Even if it’s the same as yours!

So ask your most loyal customers to do a short interview with you about the benefits they’ve experienced with your product. And if you don’t have loyal customers yet, do the same with a teammate of yours! Soon the leads will start pouring in!

Tip #4: Do Product Reviews

When you consider buying a new product, what’s the first thing you do? You go online and search for reviews, right? That’s what most people do nowadays. And that’s a clever way to position your own product!

Do a little research. Which products are your competitors? You can buy them and make a video, weighing in their pros and cons. And for the last part of the video, do a review of your own product! Don’t let people see the name of it, and tell them something like, “If you want to know what I’m using, make sure you send me a message”. Genius!

Tip #5: Make a BIG Announcement

A BIG and exciting announcement can be the launch of your new business or product. It can be something else that pumps you us, and you can reveal in a dramatic way. Such content is SO powerful!

A good launching or unboxing video can bring you in a lot of $$$! So think of what announcements you can make! Keep in mind that in order for them to be effective, they shouldn’t happen too often!

Tip #6: Do An Online Presentation

Webinars are the hottest thing right now! You can use a simple PowerPoint, and an easy-to-navigate platform such as  Zoom.

The important thing to remember is that you need to lead with generic education. For example, you can do topics like “3 Steps To A Healthy Lifestyle”. And your product just so happens to be one of those steps!

Tip #7: Do A Product Giveaway

Do you love to win prizes? So do your customers!

Tip #8: Do a Direct Promotion of Your Product/Business

What if once a week you did a Live that your whole team can promote? Choose your flagship product or program and show people how to use it. Of course, we recommend that you skillfully hide the name of it so your guests have to reach out to you or whoever invited them to the broadcast to get started. Genius!

You have all of these people watching, liking, commenting and sharing your videos, but you’re worried about the ones who are not? It’s time to change your attitude!

Gary Vaynerchuk says, “Building a brand and doing videos, builds your width”. And what about your depth? In order to have that, you need to build a relationship with your audience. Reach out to people, respond to their comments, have that one-on-one conversation with them. This is a very powerful strategy, especially if you’re just starting out!

But remember: your main focus should be on money-making activities! So don’t spend a lot of time building relationships with people who show no interest in becoming your customer or partner.
