It’s been a while since my last update. Decided to say “Fuck it” and quit my job in February at 46 years old. Best decision ever.

Been drinking lots of Shiner, going to the gym, and even found a new girlfriend who is retired at 40. She’s retired because she’s from a wealthy California family....but hey there’s more than one way to become FI.

Still investing here and there but mainly decompressing and enjoying life.

This photo is of the gf’s backyard and her flying border collie.
Will post more frequently....I promise.

All figures are generated from Mint.com.

On paper I took about a $6,500 drop in my net worth over the last 30 days or so. In all reality that is not too bad considering the market has come down quite a bit during that period.

A few outlier expenses paid in January include:

  • Property taxes --- $2415
  • Auto insurance --- $1315
  • Home insurance --- $921

Again with these expenses and the lower markets I am not disappointed with the drop in net worth.

December was certainly an interesting month. Christmas always seems to put a strain on the finances and this year was no different. My on again off again girl friend (who is also a really good friend regardless of our relationship) had some health expenses related to cancer.

Yeah I know, logically I should not have stepped into helping her with the expenses, but I care about her a lot and she's always been a good person and helped me out when times have been difficult. I reasoned that sometimes you have to help friends/family out even when you know the money will never be capable of being returned.

Also having lost my step dad to colon cancer complications and having seen my mom have a cancerous mass removed from her stomach within the last year probably influenced the decision.

In the interest of full disclosure, the expense was $6,000. Anyone who knows me understands that this is entirely against my normal behavior. Maybe I am making up for a lot of the shit I've done in the past. A karma situation perhaps lol

Anyway, I had another rough income month at work and am fortunate to realise the roughly $3k gain I had. I'm super glad to have it and it took my 401k surging big time in the last couple of weeks to make a month over month gain.
I know eventually the market will drop and these monthly gains will go away, until then it's nice seeing the upward trajectory!

All figures are generated from Mint.com. Despite having the lowest income total from my day in six years, I still saw a $17,000 increase in my net worth. Most of the gains came from my 401K and house.

All figures are generated from Mint.com. Getting used to these 10k per month advances. I'm also really close to reaching escape velocity. The 401k keeps chugging along and it's good that my home value according to estimates bottomed out a few months ago and logged another 2k monthly gain.

Really the only major change this past month that stands out is I bought a really cool 2014 Jeep Wrangler!
