Do pleats add weight? How to wear a pleated skirt with a tummy? Are questions that many of you plus size ladies ask google on the daily. Today, I am here to give you an answer to both questions. I am a proud owner of many pleated midi skirts and they are my go to when the weather starts to warm up or I want to play up a more feminine look. They are a fashion staple that all women should have in their closets whether they have big or small midsections. Here are some of my favorite plus size pleated skirts perfect for spring and summer.

Do pleats add weight?

Let’s tackle the first question. Do pleats add weight? In other word do they make you look bigger than you are? Yes, they do. But once you find the right length and pleat for you, you’ll look like a million bucks.

How to wear a pleated skirt with a tummy?

You guys already know I am all about wearing pieces that flatter my body type but then again, something might look flattering in my eyes but a disaster through someone else’s eyes. Do what you feel is right for you. With that being said there is absolutely no reason to shy away from wearing pleated skirts even if you have a big tummy. Here are a couple of tips that have worked for me.

Pull your skirt to the smallest part of your waistline. It gives the illusion that your waist is way smaller than it actually is. Here is an example.

Stay away from very tight waisted skirts. Those kinds of skirts will squeeze your midsection, therefore, pop your stomach and accentuate your love handles at the back.

Belts always work wonders. They always create an illusion of slimness.

It’s only natural to want to look good for Sunday brunch these days especially if there is a 100% chance the photo might end up on the gram. Putting together a stylish and affordable brunch outfit has gotten easier than ever thanks to Walmart. This post is not sponsored however I recently did a social media partnership with Walmart Canada to promote their Spring/ Summer collection and this tiered chambray dress was one of the items I picked up. Yes, friends, everything I am wearing in today’s post is from Walmart but it gets better. Each item is less that $30.

When you think about stylish I am sure that Walmart is not the first place that comes to mind. The truth is, Walmart has been stepping up their game as of late. They carry more brands than ever and also make cute pieces for both straight and plus size women. This dress will definitely be in rotation all summer long, maybe even Fall if I pair it with leggings. Below I’ve linked to a few chambray dresses currently available on the market.

I get it, yellow is not everyone’s fave color to wear. In fact, there are millions of people who think that yellow does not look good against their skin tone. If you are one of them, I feel you. Before you dismiss yellow all together I would like for you to read this post first. Below I am going to share with you my favorite yellow pieces to purchase for spring and how to style them. I am also going to add a few photos of women of all different shades rocking yellow.

Every online store, from Asos to designer’s websites, seem to have a pop of yellow in their spring collection. It’s not only a hot color in fashion but also in home decor.

In the spirit of making this 2019 color trend a little more wearable, I’ve put together four outfits all containing some yellow. Whether you’re looking to sport the shade at work, spring wedding, or a summer party, you’re sure to find at least one way that suits your style. Before we jump to the outfits below I would love to touch on two questions that many of you have asked me.

What colors go well with yellow?

One of the most popular colors to pair yellow with is black but I promise you it is not the only way. As someone who is not afraid to pair bright colors together, I like to wear yellow with white, light pink, navy, burgundy, blue, red, camel, purple and lavender.

What kind of yellow works for my skin tone?

Black skin tone: If you are dark skinned yellow is your color. Most shades will look amazing on you!  I love this bright yellow dress on Viola Davis  and this gorgeous outfit on Folake.

Medium skin tone:  You can also get way with most yellow but bright and vibrant yellow are always a great shades to try. Here is an example

Fair skin tone: In my opinion, darker yellows like mustard work better against your skin tone. Love this look on Gigi Hadid

These are only suggestions, feel free to wear whatever color or shade you are comfortable with. Without further ado here is how to wear yellow this spring.

This post is sponsored by SkiptheDishes however, all opinions are my own.

When January came to an end, it dawned on me that I had zero plans for March break. Between running my business and planning the renovation of our master bedroom, I totally forgot about planning our usual March break trip. Though this is not the first time we stayed home during a major school break, things are bit different now that the kids are older.

They want to visit a lot of places, see a lot of things and eat plenty of food. Experiences are important to us; it’s great to see kids being able to not just randomly want things but define their new experiences as a function of everyday life activities. Besides the lifelong memories, this helps them understand the world better and hopefully will set them up for their own great adventures in the future. As much as I was having FOMO while scrolling through vacation photos on Instagram, our March break staycation ended up being an excellent one. Toronto has so much to offer when it comes to activities.

We took a trip to a museum, spent a day at the pool, and discovered some new book series for the kids at the library. At home, we did plenty of DIY work, watched plenty of movies and added a dose of board games pretty much every night. With so many activities, my usual cooking schedule went out of the window. Lucky for us, SkiptheDishes came to the rescue. Using the app made our time together even more enjoyable as we didn’t have to worry about cooking meals. We could act like we were on a fun family vacation thanks to the local travel-inspired dinner options.

SkiptheDishes is a delivery service that brings together customers and the over 15,000 restaurant options in one place. It allows restaurants who do not have their own delivery service to access more customers and customers to access loads of restaurants. It’s super easy to use – go ahead and register after you download the app or visit their website. You can then start ordering food from tons of local restaurants, including all of your family favorites. Easy right?

We looked at restaurant menus together as a family so everyone could choose what they wanted. It was tough to narrow down our picks because there were so many tasty-looking options in our area, but the kids wanted to feel like they were in Japan, so we ordered sushi. SkiptheDishes sent us confirmation and let us know when to expect our meal. To make things even more efficient, we were able to follow our driver on the map from the time he picked up our food at the restaurant to the time he got to our door

I have ordered from SkiptheDishes many times before and here are three things I love about the service:

.*I love that the payment (meal + driver tips) gets handled on your phone, so there is no money exchange on your doorstep.

*Unlike many food delivery services, you have the option to choose whether you would like to pick up or have your food delivered.

*Last but not least, it tracks your order history and gives you the option to reorder the same meals with a click of a button, that’s just amazing.

This app is not only great for busy families like mine but also travellers. I remember the days when I travelled to a different city and always had to ask the concierge for restaurants in the area. Now, with a click of a button and your location, you can find them in seconds. I am going to assume that you are a SkiptheDishes user but if you are not you might want to download the app because I am giving away a $200 voucher on my Instagram this – check it out, contest ends March 25 at 11:59 p.m. EST. Download the app here to try SkiptheDishes for your next staycation.

Anthropologie plus size? I must admit this news took my by surprise a couple of weeks ago when I saw the article. I have browsed the Anthropologie site many times before wanting a few pieces but could not fit them. Granted they went up to xl so if the dress or top was loose enough I could squeeze myself in them but with the many options out there, I no longer want to squeeze in anything. Today’s post is all about my favorite peices from the Anthropologie plus size line.

I am so happy that they did not come with just 5 pieces to test the waters. This a full-blown collection, yes not as much as the regular line but enough for you to find something you like. Here are my fave pieces

Outfit details: Skirt: H&M | Shoes: DKNY | Trench: c/o Reitmans similar HERE HERE | Turtleneck: Old Navy.

When I had a 9 to 5 job getting dressed for the office wasn’t always a pleasant task. Why? because I love wearing color. It was always hard to pair colors without looking like a rainbow. It’s very rare to see people in the corporate word wear bright colors. Well, it is 2019 and time to add a bit of color to your wardrobe. No idea where to start? No worries, I am bringing you four simple and chic plus size Spring Work Outfit Ideas to get you ready for next season.

Plus size work outfit ideas 1. A pop of color

They say you dress for the job you want, and this spring, that means dressing in color! This beautiful printed mustard blouse can be paired with so many pieces in your closet. You can easily replace these pink paper bag cropped pants with black pants if this combo has too much color. Finish the look with a classic black coat and a structured bag.

2. Pastels

Pastels are very trendy  during the spring season. The soft pinks, light blues can be a great addition to your work outfits. This beautiful pleated multicolored skirt caught my eyes the moment I saw it. Multicolored bottoms can be intimidating but I promised they are easy to style. To pull off a look that’s put together, choose a color from the skirt and use the same color at the top like I did below.

3.Snake Print Blouse With Jeans

Create a casual and chic work outfit when you match a figure-hugging, skinny plus size jeans with a snake print blouse. Snake print blouses add a super luxe look to your outfits. To amplify the look, add some color-pop on the feet or ears. Finish the look with a black blazer.

One of the most fun parts of what I do is being able to try so many new makeup products throughout the year. I definitely have more makeup and skincare products that I can use in a lifetime. Even with the daily packages, one thing I still invest my money in is a good foundation. Even with the recent extension of many lines to add more shades, finding the perfect shade for darker skin tones is still a bit of a challenge.

Before I share my three current fave foundations for dark skin tones let’s quickly thank Rihanna for really shaking the industry a couple of years ago by launching a foundation line with 40 shades right out of the bat. No, Fenty was not the first brand to carry 40 shades, however, they made it a point to include black women into their marketing. And it worked because since then, many brands have been around the clock to cater to darker skin tones women. As someone who has been on the hunt for makeup suitable for deeper skin tones for years, I am happy to see more choices for us.

Here is what I am wearing on my face above.

1- Primer @makeupforeverCa Step 1 Skin Equalizer Primer Caramel

2- Foundation @makeupforeverca Mat Velvet+ Matifying Foundation #80 cognac

3- Concealer @nyxcosmetics_canada Conceal Correct Contour Palette (Deep)

4- Finishing Powder @maybellineca Maybelline Fit Me Loose Powder Dark #40

5- Blush @maccosmeticscanada Powder Blush (Fever)

6- Highlighter @fentybeauty in Ginger Binge/ Moscow Mule

5- Brows @nyxcosmetics_canada Slide On Pencil in Brown Perfection

6- Eyeshadow  various palettes

7- Lashes by @ardellbeauty (Natural)

8- Lipstick @maccosmeticscanada Ruby Woo

9- Setting spray @Elfcosmetics Makeup Mist & Set

3 Foundations For Dark Skin Tones BECCA’s Ultimate Coverage 24-Hour Foundation

Raise your hand if you knew Becca cosmetics carried foundations for dark skin women. I had no idea. This foundation was my first ever purchase from them and I love it. I usually watch and read reviews before making a purchase but this was a purchase I made during a walk-in at Sephora. It is a full-coverage, 24-hour wear, water-resistant foundation for all skin types. It has a thick consistency to it, so two pumps usually cover my entire face. My shade Mahogany is the third before last so there are two other darker shades. The foundation retails for $52 and it’s and worth every penny.

Mat Velvet + Mattifying Foundation

When a foundation claims to keep my face oil free for 24 hours, I simply shake my head because I have yet to find such a product. The Mat Velvet + foundation claims to conceals skin imperfections, evens out the complexion and mattifies with a non-oily finish.z I won’t say your skin will stay matte all day but this one of the best mattifying foundation that i’ve tried. It works best when I paired it with the Step 1 Skin Equalizer Primer Caramel Primer.

Not sure yet if this has been discontinued because I can no longer find it on the Sephora website but if it has not, dark skin or no dark skin this foundation has a good formula.

Maybelline Super Stay®Foundation

I have been using the Maybelline Superstay Foundation in the shade Cocoa the longest. It has recently been relaunched and now I wear #362 truffle which I think it’s slightly darker than the cocoa and the last in the shade range. It is one of my absolute drugstore foundations and perfect for everyday use. It is a medium coverage foundation but can be built to full coverage, has a matte finish, and can last up to 12 hours. I know the product claims to last 24 H but I don’t know anyone that wears foundations for that long. My skin is very oily and even though this is a matte finish you might need to use some bloating paper mid-day.

I hope this post is helpful. Let me know what is your favorite foundation whether it is for dark skin women or not. If you like this post, make sure you to check other posts in the beauty section of the blog.

Winter is here!  Repeat after me, Winter is here! Like most people around this time of the year, I am spending half of my day complaining about the freezing temperatures and the other half looking at pictures of beautiful beaches around the world. A little escape to the sun sounds like a great idea right? Today I am the bearer of good news, not any good news, a historic news and I was part of it.

For the first time in history, Sunwing will be to offering direct international flights from Toronto to Daytona Beach, Florida starting January 28, 2019. To celebrate this fantastic news I was invited by Sunwing to take part in their inaugural flight last November from Toronto to Daytona Beach.

Florida has always been on my bucket list but for some reason, I never made it there. When I was given this opportunity. It was hard to decline.  If Daytona Beach is any indication of what this great state has to offer then count me in for more trips. Our day was jam-packed with fun activities including a visit to the Hard Rock Hotel, hanging out with the dolphins, climbing the Ponce Inlet lighthouse and a rooftop dinner

We landed at the Daytona airport around 12 pm. After a warm welcome from the local media, airport staff and a ribbon cutting ceremony, we were guided to our bus to start our day.

First stop, the Hard Rochk Hotel. This hotel sits right on the beach, making it an ideal retreat for anyone looking to escape the cold. The staff really went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. We toured the hotel and enjoyed lunch with the most spectacular view of the beach.

Second stop was an Eco Boat Tour with Ponce Inlet Watersports. Though I am not so much of a boat person, I was eager to hop on this narrated eco boat tour hoping to catch some wildlife in their natural habitat. It was just a matter of minutes before we caught a few dolphins jumping in and out of the water.  The boat’s breeze was so refreshing and just what we needed before with headed to our next destination just across the street.

The Ponce Inlet Lighthouse  is a national historic landmark and a photographer dream. It’s the second tallest masonry lighthouse in the United States. You might be out of breath before you get to the top of the lighthouse but the spectacular 360-degree view of the Atlantic coastline makes it worthwhile.

Before we ended our day visit at the Daytona Beach entertainment district ( One Daytona), we made a pit stop to enjoy that Floridian sunset I have heard about all my life. This was my favorite time of the day. The gorgeous sunset made it all worth it.

Last, but not least it was time to enjoy some food, drinks and maybe squeeze in a little shopping at ONE Daytona. Located directly across from the Daytona International Speedway—the world’s first motorsports stadium.  After our reception at the Rock Bottom Restaurant & Brewery I was able to walk around one last time to enjoy the breeze, the palm trees before we headed for cold Toronto.

This was just a day worth of activities, imagine what you can do in a week. Whether you are looking for a little beach vacation, some quiet time, or mingle with racing fans, Daytona Beach has something for you. My only regret during this trip was not having time to visit the famous Daytona International Speedway. The Sunwing vacation packages to Daytona start at $279 with flights leaving twice a week. I don’t know about you but I am already planning my next getaway. Have you been to Daytona Beach before? What was your favorite part?

*This was a FAM trip offered by Sunwing Vacations. All opinions are 100% my own.

I have a confession to make. Well! I have a slight obsession with athleisure or cute plus size workout clothes in general. The athleisure trend excluded plus-size women for the longest time. Now that we have tons of options, excuse me while I indulge a little bit.

January is the time of the year most of us reevaluate and set new goals. As a busy mother, it can be difficult to fit in exercise, although I know how important it is for both your body and mind.  So one of my goals this year is to make exercising fun! Whether that is going on walks at the park, climbing, snowshoeing or other fun activities. I do not want to focus on going to the gym only. What better way to start than to invest in some cute plus size workout clothes.

If you’ve been needing a good excuse to update your activewear as well, I’ve rounded up a few favorites around the web and included some tips for purchasing the best pieces for you.

Bra | Leggings

Good American is one of those brands that is bridging the gap between functionality and fashion. They have an amazing collection of women’s plus size matching workout sets ranging from leopard to camo and all black designs. I love the fact that they carry sizes from xs to 4x and all the activewear on the site are showcased on different bodies. Which is something all the clothing brands should do.

This leopard plus size workout set might not be for everyone but it’ll sure add that extra boost to your workout. The sports bra has a front zip closure and is ideal for medium to high impact activities. The legging has a back center pocket with zipper to keep your keys or cards intact. They do ship to Canada and Nordstrom also carries them.  See more option of Good American below

Bra | Leggings

This V-neck racerback sports bra with mesh waist detailing is so cute and perfect for lower impact workouts. The high waisted plus size leggings also add a hint of sexiness without being too revealing.

Bra | Leggings

Jacket | Pants

This Lightweight tech fleece comes in black and grey. It’s the perfect jacket to stay warm and dry throughout your outdoor workout.

Women’s Full-Zip Training Hoodie

Plus size workout shorts are not for me but I am glad there is an option for those who love it. This black running shorts by Nike are inspired by classic track shorts, but ideal for your daily run or marathon.

Top | Leggings

“Made from high-performance fabrication that has extra compression for your toughest workout, these leggings are the ultimate in comfort, style, and tech design. Made from a sweat-wicking, antimicrobial fabric that’s engineered by the US from the thread up, the Pace Setters have a smooth hand feel with a cool-to-the-touch sensation makes this your ideal workout partner. Both high-waisted and 3/4 length, these leggings give you a sleek and smooth look with maximum support.” The description of these plus size leggings was enough for me to add them to my cart. From experience, Universal standard makes some quality clothes. Though a bit expensive, investing in workout clothes that last a few years is a must. The good news is these go from size 6 to 32.

Bra | leggings| Hoodie

Top| Leggings

This set can easily be turned into the perfect outfit to run errands or grab a coffee. Simply add this burgundy shadow stripe active jacket.

I hope you find something you like from this list. Make sure to check out the fitness tag to check out all my previous plus size workout clothes. If you are looking for a places to purchase plus size activewear in Canada find a list here.
