Maven Monthly: October 2018 What’s NEW in Montreal this month?

A trip to LA, my sister’s birthday, Halloween, and getting the keys to my new house – lots of excitement for me in the month of October!!! Here’s what has been going on around the city!

Hopkins Launches Late Night Menu 5626 Av de Monkland, Montreal, Quebec, H4A 1E3

Earlier this month I attended Hopkins for the launch of their late night menu, served from 9pm to closing. I’ll be back for their cherry tomato tagliatelle and crispy confit duck wings.

Laurier Street Celebrates End of Construction…Finally!

Laurier shops, restaurants, and residents…rejoice! The construction is finally over. Laurier Street is celebrating with an event titled “Le OuestFest“. Many boutiques and restaurants will be participating. From the 24th to the 28th of October you can grab $1 oysters from Laurier classics like Lemeac and Chez Levesque or a complimentary cocktail from newcomer Kin Khao 25. Check out the rest of the festivities HERE. In other big Laurier news, I finally made it to Juni and can’t believe it took me so long. Their handrolls are otherworldly.

Juni on Laurier Joiea Sociale Hosted Italian Dinatoire Sponsored by Peroni 645 Wellington St #120, Montreal, QC H3C 1T3

Peroni sponsored a luxe event at new Italian hot spot Joiea Sociale. Though Joiea Sociale has been opened for a while, I had yet to stop by – so I was excited to see what all of the hype was about. Peroni crafted cocktails with a malted twist and served their beer all night, while Joiea Sociale served Italian eats at stations. My personal favourite was the mozarella bar where fresh mozarella was being made on site and served fresh. I am so looking forward to dining at Joiea Sociale again soon (with Peroni beer in hand!).

Happy October everyone! Lots of exciting news & events coming up in November that I can’t wait to share!

Maven Monthly: September 2018 What’s NEW in Montreal this month?

Anyone else feel like August just flew by?! Mine has been jam packed with restaurant openings, events and lots of work. I’m so excited that the labour day long weekend is finally here and am actually getting pretty excited for some cooler weather {enter leather jackets}! To get you ready for fall, here are some new resto openings and spots to try this month.

Ryu Westmount 4185 Saint-Catherine St, Westmount, QC H3Z 3K2

Ryu opens bright and airy Westmount location serving their famous maki rolls, sashimi, and nigiri and equipped with a matcha bar that will serve healthy breakfast options, matcha lattes and eventually salads and bowls for the lunch crowd. Note: you can reserve for dinner!

Thazard (New Menu) 5329 St Laurent Blvd, Montreal, QC H2T 1S5

Thazard is not new, but they just launched a new menu, which I had the opportunity to try last week! They do Japanese fusion: ramen, salmon and tuna sashimi bowls, gyoza, and bao buns. Great vibe, great cocktails, and a cute sidewalk patio to soak up the last bit of Montreal heat! Tip: go between 4 and 7 for dollar oysters & shrimp tempura and $6 cocktails or wine!

Jiao 399 Notre-Dame St W, Montreal, QC H2Y 1V2

Old Montreal gets a trendy dim sum spot with Asian-inspired cocktails.

Signorvino 6961 St Laurent Blvd, Montreal, QC H2S 3E1

Wine bar turned cozy market-fresh resto Signorvino is exactly what you’ll crave as the weather cools down. Read my full post about it – HERE!

Miss Wong 1780 Avenue Pierre-Péladeau, Laval, QC H7T 2Z1

To all of my Laval readers: get ready for a cool new hangout nearby! Miss Wong will feature a stunning interior and an Asian Fusion menu by the same people who brought us Le Blossom and Le Red Tiger. Opening to the public very soon.

Gatto Matto 1950 Rue Claude-Gagné #302, Laval, QC H7N 0E4

Laval can also keep their eyes peeled for beautiful Gatto Matto opening in September. Think floral wallpaper, black marble tables and pastel coloured banquettes and chairs – sounds like the perfect place to enjoy some Italian eats!

Happy September everyone!

Little Italy Gets Cozy Wine Bar & Resto 6961 St Laurent Blvd, Montreal, QC H2S 3E1

A L L    Y O U   N E E D   T O   K N O W

Digestifs:

Signorvino at first called themselves a wine bar, but have since evolved into a cozy restaurant with a market-fresh changing menu. The owner explained that it just made sense considering their location in a quartier of the city abundant with the freshest produce. This is the perfect spot to chill on a terrace with an Aperol spritz or a glass of a private import wine. Best of all, depending on your appetite, you could pair that with some light bites like a burrata or salmon tartare or you could go for a Tomahawk steak.

Portions are very fair and Presentation is classic

There were several large groups the night we were there – surprising – especially since this is a small restaurant! Possibly part of the reason the service was on the slower side.

Finally More Seafood for Montrealers 1726 Notre-Dame St W, Montreal, QC H3J 1M3 Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice – I could have had 5 orders of this to myself
Brussels Sprouts Side Dish Stunning Sea Bass for Two

A L L    Y O U   N E E D   T O   K N O W

Digestifs:

Owned by the same group behind neighbour Restaurant Grinder, Makro is bringing Griffintown a much needed spot to get your seafood fix. Seafood menu items include oysters, a beautiful seafood platter, grilled octopus, spicy tuna on crispy rice, several fresh fish options, as well as a fish of the day. We opted for the spicy tuna crispy rice and the sea bass for two served with two sides – addictive brussels sprouts and a simple mushroom and squash dish. The food was on point and beautifully presented and the restaurant décor is understated and elegant (in stark contrast to the futuristic multi-level design of previous tenant, Shinji). As Grinder’s neighbour and sister restaurant, you should already be aware that this will be a Montreal scene, but for a change, this scene comes with great food! Reservations are difficult to snag on weekends, so plan ahead.
