My name is Melissa and welcome to mom with style! I am a fashion blogger with a slight shoe obsession! I am a wife and mother to 3 beautiful children and a little puppy. My blog will focus on inspiring my self as well as other moms to get their sense of fashion back, no more yoga pants and t-shirts! Mom with style purpose will be based on helping moms to be fashionable but still on a budget.
Tis the season of wedding! I’m sure by now, you have been invited to a few this summer. And what to wear is always a question on my mind. Because you always want to look appropriate, yet still cute. Does the wedding takes place outside? Is it a cocktail wedding? Questions after questions.
I hate buying an outfit for an occasion and never being able to wear it again. Who’s with me? It’s a total waste of money and quite frankly pointless, unless you’re the bride. Regardless of what I buy, I always think of different ways to wear it more than once. We all have that item (or even those items) in your closet you wore to an event and it has yet to see the light of day. So guilty over here! But I try to be a little smart with my purchases. And I’m sure my wallet (and hubby hehe) will be thankful.
Linen is like the only material you want to wear during the summer! Its light weight to make the summer heat a bit more bearable, specially if the wedding is an outdoor event. Blush has been such a favorite color for me these past few years. Which is a bit more surprising to me since I am not a pink type of girl. This floral jumpsuit has such fun details as well. The ruffle hem is one that’s impossible not to be obsessed with. The wide leg is one that I forgot how much I love. For petite girls like us, wide leg is a god given gift. Giving you legs for days!!
I love a good basic! But when the basic has a little twist to it… I’m all in! This dress is a total classic. I can see this being used multiple times to weddings, events or even date nights this summer. Loving the bold color for summer. I’m not one for square neckline, mostly because I have a short torso and it just doesn’t align right on me. But since this dress is more fitted, it makes this issue nonexistent. The knot in the middle camouflage your midsection, so no worries about the wedding food baby belly!
Happy Friday! Any weekend plans? We will be expecting super hot temperatures this weekend and I am that weirdo thats excited! July is almost coming to an end so I have to make the most of it. You will find me all weekend in the pool
Our feature blogger this week is Shelbee from Shelbee on the Edge rocking the fabulous two piece swimsuit! I love this swimsuit and its my favorite shade of blue. Make sure you stop by and say hi
As I mentioned in my summer wardrobe essential post, a satin dress is a wardrobe must have! And I know what you may be thinking satin dress equals a sweaty mess. Listen I would never want you walking around in a sweaty dress just because its in trend. There is no trend worth that mess! You just have to find the right satin dress because I promise they are out there. And once you find one, you’ll be searching for more satin pieces to add to your wardrobe like I am currently doing.
This beautiful navy floral satin dress is where it’s all at. And the best part about it, it’s actually not made from satin material. It just looks silky and shiny. And guys so light weight! Perfect for this time of the year. The material doesn’t stick to your skin showing every little detail you rather leave out. Love the flowy style and ruffles on this dress. I normally don’t go for navy. Maybe it was the years I spend wearing a navy uniform for school that has made that color one I never usually gravitate towards. But with the hints of mustard and gold, it’s making this dress a must have item for sure! Now that I’ve found the perfect satin maxi, this mama has to find the perfect satin jumpsuit

Every year around this time my town gets a little crazy about one event, Saratoga Race Track. It’s a big deal here. I don’t make it every year, simply because I’m really not one to gamble and have no idea how the whole thing works. And if I do place a bet at the races, it will be on the cutest horse I see. These races are also known for another thing… FASHION! Everyday ladies are coming in the shop looking for unique outfits to wear to the track. And I can totally relate. Any occasion that requires me to get dolled up, count me in baby
Not only do I want to get all dolled up, but I want something that not everyone and their mother is wearing. I want to stand out of the crowd! Who wants to blend in, when you can create a unique outfit that describes you and that makes you feel like a total babe? Even if you don’t go to the Saratoga race track this year or maybe aren’t local, these looks can work for countless events or occasions this summer.
This orange jumpsuit screams uniqueness! I ADORE this piece so much for two reasons. I own nothing like this. The tulip detail makes it so special. And I cannot get enough with the shoulder action. It’s a spaghetti strap jumpsuit, so the off the shoulder detail will sure stay in place and not raise up throughout the night. The second reason I love it soooo much is because it is beyond comfortable. It has that good scuba material that forms your body without being a heavy fabric. There are so many ways to accessories this look, but I went with a neutral yet bold look with my fringe white earrings and blush heels.
Of course I had to throw a white dress to the mix! This lace white dress is such a stunning piece all on its own. It has movement in it… hopefully that makes sense. The high-low detail is perfect to showcase a bold heel. You can wear all those fancy hats with this white dress. But if I were honest I feel like a dork wearing those hats. Maybe because I feel it will be much for my frame and instead of seeing Mel walking through the track all you will see is my hat I played with colorful accessories to style this baby for the Saratoga race track, creating a more playful look.
Eyelet details to the fullest! Saying I love this blue jumpsuit isn’t enough to justify how I truly feel about it. Eyelet is such a trend for summer and I simply cannot get enough. And it all started with this eyelet cardigan. This jumpsuit is partially lined and feels so light weight for those hot summer days. And my favorite part which I’m sure a lot of can agree is the fact this jumpsuit has pockets! A total winner!!
Going to the Saratoga Races this Year? Which one is your favorite look?
Happy Friday loves! What are your weekend plans? I’ve had long work week after our family vacation and I am beat! Have nothing in mind and not complaining. Besides it gives me time to unpack my suitcase I’m one of those people. Enjoy the weekend,
Every department store has their patriotic 4th of July goodies out. Everywhere I go all I’m seeing is red, white and blue everything, stars or patriotic graphic tees and swimsuits. But I’ll say… it seems kinda cheesy to me. I do like the colors individually, but walking around like our flag isn’t my style. And another reason is, they are limited to wear. You’re talking about memorial day, 4th of July and Labor Day and thats pretty much it. And since my money tree in the backyard isn’t providing me with $100 bills, mama has to go a different route with this themed look.
I remember when I had my first kid, every holiday she had either an outfit or a onesie to describe her very first holiday. It’s cute! Listen babies can rock any item like no other. They already are cute. But this girl over 30? Nah! Even though those days are long gone, I still like participating with the themed. My own way of course! So if you’re like me, wanting to celebrate 4th of July, but not whiling to look like uncle sam this post is for you!
These stripe pants isn’t everyones taste, but they sure are mine. I can wear these pants all summer long, happy as a clown. Why you may ask? Because they are freaking amazing! So comfortable and stylish. The last thing you want to wear on the 4th is an uncomfortable outfit while out with the family celebrating. You also want an outfit stretchy that can go with your over eating and drinking. These stripe pants are actually black, red, white and pink, yet they are 4th of July theme approved.
I style this look with heels as it was my look for work, but you can easily substitute with a pair of nude sandals. If I wanted to take it even further, I could have styled this look with a blue headband scrunchy and a red lip. Or even by adding a blue scarf to my bag
Are you into the traditional 4th of July looks? What are you wearing on the 4th?
Is your style bohemian? I can’t quite identify my style as bohemian. However, this stunning print two piece as me feeling all types of boho vibes for summer. From the print to style! This is what I envision my bohemian summer style to look like, flowy and colorful! I prefer wearing a romper over shorts. If I do wear shorts, denim is more my thing. I guess I like the structure of denim shorts. But it’s impossible to not want to wear these shorts that feel like wearing pajamas (if only my pajamas were this cute!). They are beyond comfortable. Moving on to the top, you will never catch me wearing a bilowy top. The extra material doesn’t make sense to me. It actually insinuates a belly. And that will never be a recommendation of mine. But pleasantly surprised this top isn’t as relaxed, so there isn’t a ton of material to create the appearance. Because nothing says summer bohemian style then a bilowy style top! Plus, if you prefer a more fitted look, you can always size down.
To finish this summer bohemian look, I decided with with boho accessories. I found this boxed straw bag at target (not online, but linked similar option down below) and have worn it so many times you will be able to tell by looking at the inside. It needs a little bit of cleaning, since I spilled lipstick inside. If you know a good purse cleaner please let homegirl know. This straw bag is unique with its boxed shape. Totally looks like I spend a good amount and its under $35! I spotted these cute straw flat sandals on my way to the lake. It was last minute purchase and needed a pair. I honestly didn’t like them at first. Actually I thought they were ugly if I’m honest. But I was in a rush and they were the first I saw, I just grabbed it and left. But I’m actually kind of digging it. I don’t own anything like them and they are a pretty good neutral to incorporate this season.
I am a huge fan of a 2 piece set. One, I’m all about rocking a monochromatic look. It looks clean, elegant and like you have your life together. Second, because it provide you the ability to wear it so many different ways. You can wear together or create a ton of looks worn separately.
