5 Ways to Kick Procrastination to the Curb

Procrastination is a crutch for many of us. Whether we’re afraid, overwhelmed or downright lazy, sometimes our responsibilities can seem so massive that we’d rather not deal with them right away [or at all].

But sometimes it can be not really Procrastination at all just pure overwhelm. As busy working moms we can take way to many responsibilities on. And this leads us to guess what PROCRASTINATE!

We get overwhelmed and just don’t know where to start. So we put it off and off. Till it comes and kicks us in the butt. And most times we can be surprised at just how easy it really was.

I share my top tips with you on how I combat Procrastination. Believe me, this is still a working process here!

1.  Break It Down.
Breaking down goals into smaller, simpler tasks is another way to kick procrastination to the curb.
It’s important to understand the end goal of any project we are working on. Figuring out the first steps can help us get organized. If you have a bunch of different tasks to accomplish start there. Break each assignment down into individual tasks. Take a look at the desired outcome and then work backwards. Make a list of the steps it will take to get to that end result.
Baby steps you don’t have to accomplish everything straight away. Remember to tell yourself that there is plenty of time.
2. Eat that frog
From the very good book that I highly recommend reading yes eat that frog first. And what this really means is tackle the big stuff first. The thing that you have been putting off the most.

When we have a big task to battle and we put it off it plays on our minds. And this is an energy drainer that just leads to more YES you get guessed right Procrastination.

Time schedule in for your very first task before you do anything else is to EAT THAT FROG FIRST. And everything else after that is just a bonus!

3.Time schedule
If your anything like me if it is not scheduled in it’s not getting done.I like to time block. I have certain things that I do on certain days and this keeps me in the flow.

I have days that I am just scheduling social media. Or days that I am just working with clients. This saves me a tone of time.

I personally find this a great way to work. As when I have to keep going back on forward to do different jobs I lose my flow. So I keep time blocks just for specific tasks so I can just stay in my flow of genius on those days. no going back and forward between jobs.

Another little trick I do is bach plan another time, saver!

4. Only do work that benefits you.
Stop saying yes to everything. Ask yourself this question before you say yes. Is this going to make me happy and move me closer to my goals?

Like what I said about Procrastination it can be just, overwhelm. So stop saying YES to everything. Stop taking so much on!
(I have been an expert at this so I really know what I am talking about, you are really serving no one)

5.Block out distractions.
We all know what these are yes social media. When you have tasks to do be really strict with yourself and stay away. We can all go down the rabbit hole of Insta or Pinterest.

Treat yourself to social media time once you have done your task.

Another big distraction can be housework. This was one big thing I had about working from home. I would be trying to work and I could just feel this dishes calling me to be washed.

But I do what I do with my work I schedule it in. And I do not do any housework outside of this time (I schedule it in for when the family is home so we can all do it together).

Ps. I have an extra bonus tip for you…
Make you a priority and you can do this by having some you time in the mornings. Set your alarm for even 30mins before the family gets up and just take time to sit. It sets you up with my clarity and clear mind for the day. And this means better decision making.

Now that you’ve set yourself up for success go ahead and tackle those goals! Make a habit of getting stuff done like the Super Business Mom you are!

“A mother’s arms are made of tenderness and children sleep soundly in them. Victor Hugo Every week we ask a successful Mompreneur to share their success tips with us. It is a burning question that does be on most of our minds.  Just How she does it all? This week we asked Karen Bleakley from SmartsStepstoAustralia.com and Talesofatwinmum to share her tips with us. We ask a set of seven questions on this blog series. It is a fun way to a have a sneak peek inside each other’s life!

What is your one main Productivity tip that you can share? At the end of every day, I spend a bit of time reviewing my to-do list so the next morning I can hit the ground running. When I plan my priorities ahead of time, I’m a lot more focused and get less distracted because I know exactly what I need to do. What are your must-haves for successfully managing motherhood and your business? Childcare! I can’t concentrate on work when my kids are around – everything takes longer, my kids miss out on my attention so I feel guilty and I end up making more mistakes. Childcare means I can get my work done quicker and means my time with my kids is a lot more fun. Also, an essential for me is having other mums in business around both online and in person who understand what I’m going through. What are your success habits? Getting up early and doing quick, easy tasks like emails and replying to social media before the school run so that once the kids are dropped off I can focus on meatier tasks. This only works when my kids are in good sleep phases though! When I’m getting broken sleep, I can’t drag myself out of bed at 5am and I don’t let myself feel bad about needing to go back to sleep. I also carry a notebook everywhere so I can jot down ideas for blog posts or remind myself to do things where ever I am. What do you teach your children that you have learned along your Mompreneur Journey? My kids are still only young (7yo twins and a 4yo) but we often talk about what Mummy does for a living. They understand the difference between working for somebody and working for yourself and the potential to create more wealth and freedom from running your own business. They also understand that if they earn more money they can use it to do good in the world which they really like the sound of. There is so much to teach them that they don’t learn in schools – I’m looking forward to encouraging them to set up their first business if I can get my boys to think beyond making YouTube videos like Dan TDM! How has being a mompreneur affected your family life? It is all-encompassing – instead of a job, this is my passion so I am always thinking about it, even when I’m not officially working. My husband struggles a bit because he values employment and stability but I’m very lucky that he is supporting me setting up my various websites and income streams as he trusts that I will make it work. The most positive advantage is that I can be around for my kids all the time. I do every school drop off and pick up and I can go along to assembly to see the get certificates or help with sports day. What book has inspired you the most? Rich Dad, Poor Dad Just for FUN in one word, characterize your life as a Mompreneur? Busy! Karen Bleakley lives in Brisbane with her husband and three kids under eight. She is the founder of Smart Steps to Australia, a migration website set up to support families on their move to Australia. She is also a travel writer , author and founder of the Tales of a Twin Mum family blog. We are born of love; Love is our mother. Rumi Every week we ask a successful Mompreneur to share their success tips with us. It is a burning question that does be on most of our minds.  Just How she does it all? This week we asked Catherine Kayse from Catherinekayse.com to share her tips with us. We ask a set of seven questions on this blog series. It is a fun way to a have a sneak peek inside each other’s life!

What is your one main Productivity tip that you can share? Time blocking is key. Take a blank calendar and fill in the necessary obligations first, then prioritize your goals in bite-sized pieces, fill in family time, date nights, appointments, etc. If you keep your goals last, they will always be on the back burner. Other things will fill in the time, unless you make it a priority and write it down, block off time, and get to work! I’ve watched this happen to other moms where they put everyone and their activities first for so many years, then they begin harboring resentment for having missed out on much of their own dreams. It’s okay to arrange carpools for practices sometimes, and to create freedom to be there for what really matters. What are your must-haves for successfully managing motherhood and your business? Two days a week I pay for childcare for a few hours. That way I have time to FULLY invest in my business for a solid chunk of time. I want to be fully present with my children when we have time together. By taking time to get focused work done allows me to sit on the floor and play with my kids without feeling guilty for neglecting my business. What are your success habits? The evening before I have a work day, I plan out specifically what I will accomplish. I sometimes put my phone in a different room to focus fully on writing or whatever task I’m doing, without being distracted by notifications. On those days I also shower and get dressed as if I’m going to work. It’s amazing how that helps my mindset shift. What do you teach your children that you have learned along your Mompreneur Journey? They say more is caught than taught in parenting, meaning children pick up on things they experience more than what we tell them. I hope my children see that I have worked really diligently to get the balance that works best for our family in each different season. It’s fun when my four-year-old joins a webinar or my daughter helps me tape packages. I hope they see that hard work pays off and that family is a priority. How has being a mompreneur affected your family life? I’m so grateful for the opportunity to strive for this balance. Years ago, our moms had to decide if they would fully devote themselves to the domestic sphere and forgo income for the family, or go to work and drop us at daycare each day. Single moms had no choice at all! Now we get to leverage technology, work from anywhere, and raise our children. It’s not easy, but it’s definitely a great time to be a mom. What book has inspired you the most? There’s a book about homesteading called Radical Homemakers that shifted my views on the family structure and helped me to ask some important questions. Even though we aren’t homesteaders, her introduction on trends in family structures is really interesting. Just for FUN in one word, characterize your life as a Mompreneur? Growth. Catherine Kayse of “Hey, Momma!” blog is passionate about helping other families find the unique work-life balance that works for them. She believes women can invest in their family without neglecting their retirement plans. After earning a M.A. in Rhetoric and Composition, she spent several years teaching and serving in ministry. Motherhood has allowed her to step into her calling in unexpected ways. You can check Catherine out at >>>>> Website >> catherinekayse.com

“A mother’s happiness is like a beacon, lighting up the future but reflected also on the past in the guise of fond memories.” Honore de Balzac Every week we ask a successful Mompreneur to share their success tips with us. It is a burning question that does be on most of our minds.  Just How she does it all? This week we asked Sarah Galeboloke from Plural Growth to share her tips with us. We ask a set of seven questions on this blog series. It is a fun way to a have a sneak peek inside each other’s life!

What is your one main Productivity tip that you can share? I love the saying “Successful People do it now” when something comes to mind and as a mom, I’m sometimes not able to “do it now” so I put it on a “to do” notes on my phone. This helps me not to stress about it because I know I will get to it and I don’t need to remember my next block of work time ill open it up and remember all the great ideas I have. The biggest thing is not not get overwhelmed with the big goal just start with the small things you can do now. What are your must-haves for successfully managing motherhood and your business? The biggest attribute is positive and solution based thinking. When you have work and home life obligations there is too much to do to waste energy on being stressed or worried by putting things in a positive “failure is an opportunity to learn” mentality I not only learn how to be a better mom and entrepreneur but have the mental and emotional energy to be my best. Also a great tool is my iPhone, 90% of my business I can run from my phone. I can be with my son on a walk and send a few emails or design a meme. What are your success habits? I time block my work, I am always ahead by a week. I use a PM system to track everything and work with my team. I do 3 “morning pages” a morning to get all the junk out, allows me to be more productive and creative during the day. I schedule difficult things during my high energy levels and easy or fun activities for when my energy is lower.
What are your success habits? Get up early Put EVERYTHING in my calendar Have a schedule and plan but am flexible to change when inspired to Serve others EVERY day, I call it selfish giving the more I give the more I gain Read scripture, pray and meditate EVERY day. This opens me up to inspiration, helps me stay in a positive place and opens up opportunities I’d otherwise never have I exercise every day I take care of my nutrition by eating health and taking Zeal Always looking to connect and give to others Spend at least 1hr (broken up throughout the day) to fully focus on my son, to play or sing, to teach and listen Affirmations, I use “I can do this” a lot. I say it out loud to myself repeatedly until I’m well on my way to doing.
What do you teach your children that you have learned along your Mompreneur Journey? One way I teach is by example, showing how important it is to prioritize self and by doing so I am not neglecting my other obligations. I let me son (he is 2) be involved as much as possible. One example, when I’m setting up podcast equipment I teach him how it works I even let him recored himself to see how it works. My goal is to teach and empower him to do whatever he wants. I don’t want him to feel limited as I did most of my life. How has being a mompreneur affected your family life? It has helped me create heathy bounders, have better quality time with my son, helped me provide for my family, its caused me to reach out an build a village because I need the support and help, I am a much better wife and mother because of my work. What book has inspired you the most? This is a tough one. Rich Dad, Poor Dad is the book that got me started but I also like Mary Kay Ash Autobiography, The millionaire mind, 80/20 rule, and the Purple Cow. Just for FUN in one word, characterize your life as a Mompreneur? Joyful! You can check Sarah out at >>>>>

“A mother’s arms are made of tenderness and children sleep soundly in them. ”   Victor Hugo. Every week we ask a successful Mompreneur to share their success tips with us. It is a burning question that does be on most of our minds.  Just How she does it all? This week we asked Patrice Craig from Ever Skin to share her tips with us. We ask a set of seven questions on this blog series. It is a fun way to a have a sneak peek inside each other’s life!

What is your one main Productivity tip that you can share? Every night before I go to bed I create a goal list for the next day. I wake up knowing what I want/need to accomplish for the next day. It is as though I have spoken the success into existence. What are your must-haves for successfully managing motherhood and your business? Patience and a good organizer. What are your success habits? Consistency-I find that if I am spending just a little time everyday chipping away at my goals I am more centered and I am getting where I want to be. Getting to bed on time and waking up early-I wake up about an hour before my kids. I exercise or respond to e-mails. Drink hot cups of coffee. It’s quiet and sometimes the most productive I will be all day. Setting clear goals- Every month I set goals for myself with a clear path of getting there. A goal is great but if you have no idea how you are getting there then you are just flapping in the wind. What do you teach your children that you have learned along your Mompreneur Journey? I try to teach them to be flexible. Not every plan is success but every experience teaches you something. Be willing to see the teachable moment in the failure. Be prepared to celebrate when the plan comes together. How has being a mompreneur affected your family life? It has inspired my kids to start their own businesses. My oldest son started a lawn care business, my second son has a pet sitting service and my daughter is my partner. We have become a family of entrepreneurs. My kids have succeeded and failed, learned and grown in their respective businesses. I am so proud to watch them learn to go after their dreams. Last night I was on the way home from a practice with one of my kids. We have six kids and life is sometimes hectic. We were driving home, it was nearly 10pm. He asked why I would work for myself, and without thinking I said, ‘Because of days like today.’ Last night I made dinner, watched a practice, cheered at a game, taken my little ones on a surprise ice cream run and hosted a mini sales call. I did it and didn’t miss tuck in. That wasn’t an option when I was running retail stores. What book has inspired you the most? There are so many books that have inspired me, The Girl Code, Find Your Extraordinary, The Power of Broke, The 4 hour Work Week and The Obstacle is the Way. Geez, I feel like I could go on forever.
