The Mochimochi Shop features Anna's books, kits, downloadable patterns, and hand-knitted figures. Anna creates artwork and animations with her knitted world, projects that have been exhibited around the US, in Europe, and Asia. Mochimochi Land was launched in 2007 as a place where knitted toys and people can live together in a spirit of tolerance.
I can’t tell you how hard it’s been to sit on this secret—these are seriously some of my favorite tiny knitted things ever. THANK YOU to everyone who took a chance on a little mystery—I hope you were happy with the surprise!
The cozy cat kits will be available in the Mochimochi Shop soon, but for now you can get them from a few local yarn stores: StevenBe in Minneapolis has a few, Yarn Social in Kansas City and Yarnify in Chicago all have some as of this writing. If you’d like to see them in your LYS, ask them to please get in touch!
What is a mystery preview kit? It’s a kit containing the pattern, yarn, and stuffing for an all-new tiny design. These are new, intermediate-level patterns that aren’t available anywhere else right now! You’ll just need a set of size 1 double-pointed needles and a tapestry needle to get started.
Please note that the mystery kits AUTOMATICALLY COME FREE with a purchase of at least 2 kits (or 2 books, or one kit and one book) through May 31—there’s no need to add them to your cart.
This is a great time to stock up on kits for summer vacation knitting, or holiday gifts. There are so many tiny kits to choose from!
Want a hint? This year’s mysteries are basically the polar (or paw-lar) opposite of last year’s mystery kits. Honestly, they’re already up there with my all-time favorite Mochimochi Land designs.
When you receive yours, please keep it hush-hush if you can, so we can preserve the mystery through the end of the month!
(And yes, the kits and patterns will all be available non-mysteriously in the shop later this year.)
GIFMAGAZINE, a Japanese clearinghouse for GIFs, recently commissioned me to create four original GIFs for use in the popular LINE messaging app. They asked me to make “reaction” GIFs that would aide in communication. I was thrilled to oblige!

GIFMAGAZINE has been promoting the GIFs—here’s a GIF they made to highlight my GIFs. I’m in GIF heaven!
(The above shows how you can find the GIFMAGAZINE options in LINE—this is helpful, becuase it took someone showing me how to do it before I understood.)
I’ve been a bit obsessed with the idea of knitting teeth lately—party because I recently read The Story of My Teeth, and partly because twice a day I’m wrangling my toddlers into the bathroom for a brushing. There’s something a vaguely easter-like about a tooth, so I decided to make some knitted teeth and toothbrushes to go in my kids’ baskets this year.
They weren’t the biggest hit ever, but they were not reviled. I’m calling it a win! And after I showed my 3-year-old that the brush could brush his tooth friend, he gave it a try himself for a few seconds, which totally melted my heart.
No pattern for these, at least for now. It was fun to knit something just for fun!
I’m excited to announce that Mochimochi Land is coming to YarnCon, the Chicago indie fiber fair, April 6th and 7th!
A big slice of Mochimochi Land itself will be there (with plenty of updates and surprises), along with kits for sale at a special discount, books, and other goodies. And YarnCon’s marketplace is free to enter, so I hope to see lots of my Chicago neighbors there!
