The road to your best self isn’t paved with extreme changes or grand gestures. When it comes down to it, reaching your full potential actually requires a series of small, meaningful steps.
Indeed, while tiny habits might not seem like much at first, you’d be surprised how essential they are in setting a good foundation for whatever it is you want to achieve. It also gives you a chance to celebrate small wins and keeps you from feeling overwhelmed into stagnation.
On that note, here are a few activities you can try everyday to become your best “you” — both in life and in business. Whether it means giving yourself a confidence boost, slowing your pace, or shifting your perspective, you’ll be well on your way to becoming a more holistic, healthier individual with these tips:
Start your days right
Picture this: You get up an hour before work, after abusing the snooze button more times than you can count. You realize you’re running late, dart in the shower at lightning speed, and down your coffee as “breakfast.” Sound familiar? If you find yourself feeling disoriented at work before even starting your day, that’s probably why.
Fortunately, there is a way out of this rut, and it’s by setting a good morning routine. When you wake up, don’t drown yourself in phone notifications right away. Take time to have a proper breakfast, stretch, and get some fresh air. This way, you’ll be better primed to face what challenges await you for the day.
Be more mindful
The best way to practice mindfulness is by meditating. All you need is a minute of your day in silence. This will help you approach situations from a place of peace and serenity. Not only will you be able to establish a deeper connection with your inner self through meditation, but it can even make you more confident, as explained in a previous post by Misha Almira.
Remember, life is what happens when you’re too busy making plans. While it’s good to want to prepare for the future, be sure to appreciate what you’ve got at present, too. One way to do this is by jotting down what you’re grateful for.
This practice can be done on our phones, but writing in a good old notebook can be a slower, more refreshing choice, allowing you to absorb things much better. In this regard, Muji’s selection of notebooks are clean and minimal, providing you fewer distractions and more space for your thoughts. Turn to your gratitude journal every time you need to remind yourself about the brighter side of life.
Honor your body
Your body is your temple. It’s important to nourish and take care of it as much as you can. That could mean allowing yourself rest when you’re tired, or dressing in a way that makes you feel your best.
Effective communication is key to any type of relationship whether it is a love relationship, friendship or a business relationship we are talking about. Knowing how to get your point across the room and being able to listen to those of others are crucial to succeeding in life and at work.
While it might sound obvious, it is not as easy as it might seem.
Some people have an inborn ability to effectively communicate with everyone and get their ideas heard without even the slightest problem. But for most people communication is associated with a lot of stress, anxiety and wasted efforts: they might be spending a lot of time talking to different people every day but they fail to become good communicators.
So what’s the secret of effective communication?
Effective communication means not only being a good listener but also being mindful of one’s words and tone, and not taking someone else’s tone personally. Although there are many articles online covering the how-to’s of being a good listener, paying attention to body language, and asking questions as ways of becoming a better communicator, there is one valuable productivity tool they all commonly overlook — personal strengths.
In order to fill this gap, we came up with 3 main reasons why your personal strengths can become your key to better and more productive communication.
#1. Your strengths give you confidence
Research has shown that when people know what they are good at and start to use those character traits in their daily activities, they not only become happier and more productive but also more self-confident and self-possessed.
Having confidence in ourselves is directly reflected on our physical appearance and mental activity because we start to embrace and leverage what makes us stand out from the crowd. So before jumping into your next meeting, preparing for your sales pitch or going to your next networking event, remind yourself of your top strengths and personal skills that motivated you and helped you succeed in life. It will certainly boost your confidence while communicating with others.
#2. Your strengths make you a better listener
When we know our strengths, we also become watchful of other people’s strengths and weaknesses, i.e. we become more empathetic towards other people. If your top strength is a strategist and the other person’s strength is, for example, a brainstormer, you start to pay attention not only to your differences but also to your complementarity.
This mindful approach to strengths helps us adopt active listening by paying attention to what others are saying. Only when we know our strengths and take other people’s strengths into account that we become fully focused on what our conversation partner is saying.
Once we have become more focused we can further improve our active listening through paying attention to our conversation partner’s body language which usually reflects what they actually think regardless of what they say.
#3. Your strengths help you effectively channel the conversation
Great communicators know what they are good at and how they can leverage their strengths during a conversation.
Let’s say your top strength is a thinker, somebody who enjoys a mental activity and intellectual discussions, but prefers to spend time alone thinking. If you are this type of a person, it would be hard for you to communicate with people for whom acting before thinking is a norm. So instead of getting nervous that nobody has done their homework, you would probably start with presenting your thoughts and channeling the conversation in a more productive way because you already know how you function and what works best for you.
By knowing your strengths the communication process becomes more effective because first, you become more confident about yourself, second, you pay more attention to your conversation partner, and third, you know how to manage the conversation flow.
So how can you evaluate your strengths and know your top ones?
There are several ways to find out more about your strengths and be able to leverage them:
Use a strengths finder online: I was recently recommended a free strengths finder called HIGH5 that helps identify your top 5 strengths and defines each of them by giving hints on how to use those strengths on a daily basis.
Ask your friends and colleagues: another way of finding out more about your strengths is by asking your close friends and your colleagues about what you are good at. Ask at least 5 people, make a list of top 5 strengths that appear most in their feedback and ask them to elaborate more on those strengths.
Go see a personal or career coach: if you are having a hard time with identifying your strengths, you can book an appointment with a career coach to help you go through your main strengths and see how you can leverage them in a more productive way.
Knowing your strengths is not enough for having more effective communication. It is essential to know how you can use those strengths while communicating with others.

Becoming the first woman, her creation swirling out of a movement of her hand, her hips, her heart. She is creating new worlds with her mind and body. She is the embodiment of creation itself and I feel the power within me as her. She loves every aspect of what is created through her.
She has no preference for the experience of what that will be. It just flows through her. There is new life innocence, dying of the old, celebration of the song of life, destruction as a force of absolution. All of it is perfect in the eyes of the Creatrix.
All of it is done in Divine Love with no questions asked, no second guessing. She birth something new and let it take on life as its own. Then, she marvels at its unique individuality. All of it is a child of her womb, intimately connected through the bond of mother and child. Her love has no bounds and she will protect it when needed.
I could feel a part of my body tense as the sheer power of her presence washed through me. It was a remembrance and a reckoning of what should have been all along. I felt the anger rise at the parts that tried to tame this Creatrix, accepting only the loving mother while denying the unabashed torrential destructive force of nature.
Her creation must involve all of her as the original artist…the light, the dark, the gut wrenching, heartbreaking, raw delights of every experience in the infinite womb of all possibilities.
For so long, I’ve denied the hunter, and the killer. It made me feel helpless and the indifference of the predator frightened me in a way that took me into the dark depths of my psyche. It was a place I tried to avoid at all costs. I still do. How can I so deeply love animals and be okay with them being slaughtered?
I equated my deep love for animals as a right to protect them from death and suffering. While this was true, in deeply loving all creatures, I had to also love the one that had the natural instinct to hunt and kill. Unconditional love also belonged to these wild beings that were not meant to follow rules or know of being domesticated.
Just as Lilith’s true nature was wild undefinable power so too were aspects of her creation. Can I embrace this wild destructive One inside of me? Can I finally make peace with death, suffering and destruction while facing it all with deep unending love? I don’t know…
I know that the deepest part of me longs desperately for this acceptance. I know that I am willing. I also know it terrifies me still.
There was a point in an Ayahuasca ceremony where I felt I’d gone too far outside the established boundaries of being human. What if I couldn’t get back? What if I let this primordial part loose inside me and I can’t get back to understanding humanity?
As long as I can remember, I have been boy crazy, starting in kindergarten. Last night, I saw a clear picture of the reason for this. Beyond the fact that my dad wasn’t there for me, emotionally and most times physically.
It stemmed from that, in that I felt rejected by my dad so I quickly put parts of the masculine in shadow and denied it. I would avoid my dad, when he came home which was just an out picturing of what I was doing with the unruly masculine inside me.
I was still looking for the masculine that was loving, compassionate, accepting and powerful in his Godly presence. I was denying the Yang masculine which my dad represented, being a drunk especially. However, I was looking to boys to fill the Yin part of the masculine. I searched through my younger years, being constantly disappointed.
All the while, I was suppressing the masculine within myself completely. Because of this suppression of the masculine, I attracted men that were not kind to me…that mirrored the harsh, judgmental, driven, controlling aspects of the masculine shadow.
This is what I kept attracted in men in my life, because I had put the masculine in shadow and demonized it, thinking I didn’t need it. I didn’t think I needed my dad. He was a drunk so I could ignore him.
The ignoring of this, caused a disassociation in my own self. It caused a desperate seeking of the masculine on the outside because I didn’t acknowledge it on the outside. I was seeking the Yin masculine but the Yang shadow part is what actually showed up for me.
I loved the Yin masculine and hated the Yang, not realizing they were both two sides of the whole. I could not have one without the other and the more I suppressed any of it in myself, the more the distorted aspects of the masculine were in my face…constantly.
Because of this, my world view looked harsh to me. I became agoraphobic and didn’t even want to face the harshness. It has taken years for me to realize what was suppressing, squashing, and holding me back was my lack of acceptance of the whole masculine inside.
I spent most of my time working on bringing out the feminine thinking it was the receptivity, intuition, wisdom, unconditional love aspects I needed to bring to the forefront to shift the harshness.
Now, I see that it was the wild untamed feminine and the masculine that was screaming for my attention. It was the balanced aspects of both that was needed. It was the parts I was most afraid to face that needed to come out for the harshness to soften. The wild beast inside was raging because it needed expression. This expression was the only thing to quiet the beast inside.
This is all still integrating within me but seeing it has rocked my world. This may be old news to many for each of us, moments of bringing an aspect out of shadow seems like a like altering revelation.
I always thought we had one part Divine Feminine and one part Divine Masculine. These were the parts we had to work with to bring into wholeness. Now, I am realizing I’ve only been able to love with a quarter of my full potential.
I am only now tapping into loving with my whole heart. We have to bring online the Yin and Yang of both the Divine Feminine and Divine Masculine. The Yin Feminine is the Beloved of the Yang Masculine. The Yang Feminine is the Beloved of the Yin Masculine.
We spend our time, trying to match the Yin Feminine with the Yin Masculine and denying the other halves.
We often demonize the Yang Feminine: Wild Untamed Primordial Goddess and the Yang Masculine: Domineering, Womanizing, Controlling God. We don’t realize that the Christed Male and Virgin Mother are a part of what we’ve cast into shadow as demonic.
Until, we can truly accept all 4 parts back into our souls, we will more than likely manifest addiction, self sabotage, abuse, corruption, mental illness, poverty, and failure in our outside world.
Take a look at what you hate, judge, or despise. This is what you’ve locked away in shadow. These are the parts that are trying to destroy you because they need acknowledgement and expression.
They will come out one way or another. It is our choice whether they come out destructively or as a power coming back to us. We have to start with facing them and finding a way to accept, forgive, and love them.
Right after drinking about 3/4 of a shot glass full of the brew, I started feeling it. My stomach started burning and I could feel the purge coming.
I breathed deeply and noticed my head started to move from side to side in slow motion.
Everything became silent, I felt like I could hear the patter of insects and every sound in the Universe at once and yet it was within a profound still place.
It all vibrated with a distinct harmony and every being had a place in the masterpiece. I started seeing visions of geometric shapes in purple and green hues.
The shapes were light and had their own intelligence. There were intricate grids with knowledge.
I was being shown the secret to nature, the earth, animals, trees, insects, humanity, and existence of all beings. The grids were inside the trees and moving very quickly.
Then, I got it…the Cosmic joke. I began laughing and couldn’t stop.
It all made sense and it was funny. The insignificance of our 3D worries and lives was so apparent. I could see it all at once…how small we really are.
I was laughing from pure happiness of existing in oneness and laughing because I finally understood the answer to all of my questions.
Then, the bliss became overwhelming. It was like making love amplified by a million. I was in the presence of my Eternal Lover.
We were playing and enjoying pure love of being. There was one being in all of creation…then I became aware of others in the room. All the beings in the room became one.
They were inside me and outside me at once. All of existence stopped and turned in honor. We were all aware of the one being and I was experiencing it inside my body.
It was as if they were all honoring what I would choose next. They were holding space and we were all inclusive. It was beautiful and vulnerable. All secrets and judgments disappeared.
It was wonderful. They were watching. waiting, loving, supporting, and more present than I’d ever experienced. They were sitting in Love with me and for me.
There was no rushing because the moment was still. I could have taken 3 lifetimes to make a decision and they were still there with me…they were me.
We were all the same Being.
In that moment, I realized I’ve never been alone. I’ve never been without support or love.
I could hear the Maestros start the Icaros and I felt my body wanting to purge. I started vomiting a lot. Then, dry heaves came. All the while, I was in a heightened state of Bliss.
Then, more vomiting, eyes watering, nose running, and more dry heaves. The room was escalating like the purging of my body.
I thought it might never end. When I felt my body collapse over my bucket, I gently pushed it aside and moved into child’s pose.
Then, all went quiet. I felt myself traveling very quickly. All went still and an eye in the center of my forehead popped open.
I was not alone though. I was Her. Her eye opened through my body. I was looking into a mirror and I saw her looking back at me.
It was Radha, Isis, Kali, Mary Magdelene, Mother Mary and all Goddesses. They were One and inside me. I knew
I was in the Temple of the One, even though before this experience, I didn’t even know that existed.
I knew I was That. I also sensed a feminine presence behind me. I knew her well. I greeted her saying, “Hello Mother…Goddess.” Then the experience disappeared instantly.
I was back in the room. The Icaros stopped. I could instantly feel the energy getting dark.
I opened my eyes and could see demons crawling out of their dens. I braced myself inwardly for what was about to come.
I saw a big human size tarantula climbing toward Diogenes as he was getting up. I saw it vanish when it got close to him.
He was walking over to me. I closed my eyes, afraid he had become the tarantula man. When I opened my eyes he was sitting in front of me.
I felt so much relief that he was there. It was as if he knew I was in trouble and came. I felt so safe.
He started singing my Icaro and I settled in.
Then, things really got weird. I felt completely peaceful and looked down to find that my body was some sort of Insectoid Alien type being. I was all sprawled out with long spindly legs, almost roach-like.
I was letting it all hang out and felt like I was about to give birth. I felt at peace and okay with it all. Then, I realized how grotesque I was.
I just kept surrendering to it and somehow accepted myself as this being. It was beautiful, the Icaros were beautiful, I’m sure my little alien baby was even going to be beautiful. I was certain I’d crossed the line of sanity, but I went with it.
I just kept saying, “I trust Ayahuasca and what she has to teach me.”
I became aware of the pain in my side that I’d been feeling for a few weeks prior to coming.
The Mother started speaking through me to this pain in my abdomen. She was telling the pain it was okay to go and that it was safe and loved. She was very powerful and giving. This went on for the rest of the Icaro.
When he was finished, I sank back into my body and felt relaxed contentment. I stayed in this space for the rest of the night.
I had asked what my genius was somewhere toward the end of the Icaro and felt like Aya just left.
I guessed this was not the question that needed answering.
I also remember before the Icaro, Diogenes started whistling and making sounds.
I could hear hissing and whistling. I felt him directing the demons and showing them to their places. Then, he was sending them back there.
He was dispersing them. He was a true master of energy. It was other worldly and full of magic.
It was a cloudy summer day and I decided to go down to the river. I approached a large boulder that was reaching into the river.
The forest was dark as the clouds and trees formed mystical shadows all around. It appeared much later than it was. It almost felt like a storm forming. I asked for permission to take a seat on it and started connecting with it.
I could feel the playful stream as I reached out to greet it. I asked it if it would share it’s song with me and within a few seconds I began picking up a soft rhythm. I repeated it back.
Then, it turned into a melody that kept repeating so I echoed back each time until I felt a rush come through my ears and my body. The song of the river started singing through me and I began losing myself.
A strong wind began shaking the trees all around me as if calling everyone to their places. The song became more complex as it picked up multiple harmonic layers that formed a story that continued singing me.
At times it was telling a story of joyful gatherings, celebrations of divine belonging. The wind shook the trees in staccato rattling. I could hear a base drum and what seemed to be an orchestra of different instruments.
The sun parted the clouds and trees and beamed a spotlight on cue, forming a perfect circle around me as it touched the rock.
It all was coming to an intense and obvious crescendo as the story told sorrowful tales of the ancient ones and the trees soothed the trees into a lullaby caressing the soul with sweet tenderness.
The crescendo fell like a feather taking it’s time reaching the earth as the spotlight softly faded into a radiant mist scattering through the forest.
I could feel forest spirits, trees, ancestors and others I couldn’t name, gathering as if the river song had beckoned or summoned them. All the musicians were suspended in a magical pause…
Out of my unfocused periphery I saw something peak boldly around another boulder to look at me. It felt like a large cat or person. It’s presence was fierce and almost intimidating. “Hello, who are you?” popped into my mind. I searched for an answer.
The searching brought me out of the altered place between worlds and back into my body. I looked in the direction of the watcher fully expecting to see a live puma as that is what I knew it was in an instant.
When I looked, all I saw was tree. It was spirit puma but I could also feel the spirit of the tree looking back at me. I also felt a group of ancestors gathered around watching.
The music had stopped. I sat on the boulder, my body vibrating intensely. We were all looking around at each other expectantly for what seemed like a long moment in time.
There was a ringing in the air like we’d all just experienced the best live show ever! There were knowing nods and grins exchanged.
Peace permeated as we sat in communion.
After a few minutes, my ordinary thoughts started drifting back in and I became shy. I meekly thanked the river and all the gathered ones. I gave a bow of honoring them and let them know I would be going inside now. Then, I said something to the affect of, “lets do this again sometime- Munay!”
When we think of the classical, “happy” relationship between men and women, many people will conjure up the image of a maiden in distress being rescued by a knight in shining armour.
Unfortunately, it’s that inclination which has lead us to a plethora of gender inequality problems. So, it is no surprise that there is a palpable tension in the workplace between men and women.
Women are vehemently frustrated with the knowledge that even though they are doing the same amount of work, they are making less than their male co-workers, regardless of the output or quality.
The glacial pace at which the wage gap is closing is worrisome and disheartening to many, but there are some who have taken it upon themselves to institute their own change instead of waiting on miserly men to do it for them.
World War II saw an extraordinary number of working age men being sent overseas to fight.any industries lost a chunk of their producers, and this included those industries expected to supply our armed forces.
Necessity provided the first push for women to fill the gaps that were being created by the draft.
Hence, the rise of Rosie the Riveter and her famous motto, “You Can do It!” that encouraged wives, daughters, and others to support their loved ones who fought on their behalf.
Unfortunately, after the war was over, many women were ejected from these industries for their male counterparts, and they went back to the traditional gender roles of running the household and growing the family.
Fast forward to the late 60’s-70’s when equal rights for women and feminine liberation were on the rise.
Women made a mass movement to enter into the traditional male fields. The caveat is that many were pigeon holed into very specific roles in those industries, such as secretaries, teachers, and nurses.
They were also getting paid far less as women were never expected to support a household, their earnings were more of an accessory to their provider’s salary.
The Modern Conundrum
According to the AAUW with information collected through the census bureau, women across ethnicities, make 80 percent of the earnings that men do.
What is more appalling is that if you separate out the minorities from these metrics, you will see that among people like African American and Hispanic women, the gap is far wider.
Most of this is due to the fact that these male dominated industries are still male dominated, and instead of adapting to social change, these leaders do not want to mess with their bottom line.
Socially, women are never taught to negotiate for a higher wage because they do not want to risk offending their potential employers and losing out on a good job.
This is magnified by the fact that many companies are not transparent with their earnings, and that leads to women being oblivious to the problem existing.
How Entrepreneurship is the Solution
The two main problematic factors here are power and money. Management feels that if they’ve been able to get away with paying these lower wages to women in the past, keeping their costs lean, and no one complains, than there is no issue.
It is likely that many of these executives are not “against” women, but that they care more about their profits than something they perceive as some hot button topic of the moment.
These male executives are proud of the environment that they cultivate, and making changes based on social pressure feels too much like losing control.
Women fighting the wage gap through entrepreneurship are particularly effective on these two factors.
By starting new businesses, women take control to factor in a more ethical wage for the services being provided, and they get to better determine their own worth.
When the market sees that a business can remain successful and still run an ethical office and pay equal livable wages, it puts pressure on the other male run companies to make changes to what they are offering their female employees in order to keep the talent in their offices.
It can be taken a step further by addressing the less than equal benefits that many women are subject to when working in a corporate job.
In America, maternity leave is seen as a luxury offering from employers, and because of recent legislation, health insurance is no longer required to cover birth control.
With so much legislation working against the women of the workforce, it takes a woman in charge to feel the obligation to do what she can for her female employees, so that they can have access to the same level of care as their male co-workers.
The wage gap is real. The atomic family is only a small part of what makes up our society today, and is lunacy to think the same practices of 50 yrs ago still apply to an ever changing social landscape.
It is imperative that the wage gap continue to shrink for the sake of the working women taking care of herself or her family.
Men are no longer the socio-economic breadwinners. There are plenty of single moms and wives that are expected to earn as much or more than their husbands to contribute or support the family.
It is a joy to see that women aren’t relying on men to change things for them, and that they are becoming their own white knights.
The Top 7 Ways Female Entrepreneurs Are Dominating the Corporate Landscape
Does it ever strike you as odd that for as seemingly long as woman have been streaming into the workplace, it doesn’t seem any easier for them to assimilate or even excel into the culture structure? Historically industry, and by proxy, the workplace was built by and tailored for men. Yes, there are outliers in certain trades during specific periods in history, but business, as a whole, was developed for men, by men.
In recent years a truly remarkable change is taking place. Entrepreneurship, like other avenues of the corporate world, has traditionally been male dominated.
Because women see the futility in trying to play by the rules, (they weren’t written with women in mind anyway) they are taking the reins and making their own better adjusted structure.
Here are the top 7 ways that female entrepreneurs are dominating the corporate landscape.
1. They Have A Mission
Unlike their male counterparts, women entrepreneurs, on average, have a focus that is more driven by an ideal or purpose. In the building of a brand new business, keeping the “why” in sight is essential.
Mission statements are something that are held very strongly in every decision that gets made. For instance, a woman could own a body conscious clothing brand, and her mission in this endeavor is, “Letting women know the clothing is made for them, and NOT the other way around!”
2. They Leave The Egos at the Door
In corporate structure, men will often make the decision that makes them look the best as opposed to the best decision possible, through many accounts referenced in the book Quiet Women Can Rule the World by Rebecca Holman.
Women, on the other hand, look for what affects the most number of employees in the business, or makes the most sense, regardless if they don’t get the credit for the idea. It is a far more integral method of problem solving that ultimately ends with the most balanced decision.
3. They Create Community
It’s no wonder that the atmosphere of a workspace and workforce is so incredibly important to female entrepreneurs. For centuries, women have been ostracized based on antiquated and unfounded stereotypes in the male developed and dominated workplace.
For instance, it was often believed that women could not hold positions of power because they were too emotional. The truth is, as you’ll discover further along, that traits like this make women more ideal for positions of power because of their ability to see all sides of the situation, and not just what’s written on paper.
Women, in fact, have a high level of emotional intelligence, and high levels of empathy and integrity, which helps them to build and foster a community in their own businesses.
4. They are Adaptable
Also touched upon in Quiet Women Can Rule the World, is the idea that women have a greater capacity to read between the lines. You may have an individual woman who tends to be quiet most of the time, but is more than happy to assert herself when she does not agree with someone.
The advantage of this is that it makes for a very adaptive leader, someone who can be the decisive leader, but who can also switch gears when empathy is needed.
5. They See Past Either/ Or
It is often thought that people in general fall into two personality types, and are either the Alpha or the Beta. Alpha, as it applies to women, is characterized by the stereotypical strong will that many might use to characterize a woman as being cold (and even called a b****).
The Beta is seen as the nose to the grindstone worker that that doesn’t interact much with their co-workers and never speaks up in meetings.
The truth of these qualities is that it’s not a matter of being either/or that is better, but on a spectrum that is required to be successful, depending on the task at hand.
6. They Respect the Team
Women are often attributed with being team players, and when they form their own businesses, you better believe that they take full advantage of building a strong team.
Women will happily recognize areas in which they do and do not excel, and in doing this, they can identify the roles that they need to fill in order to produce the most complementary arrangement.
A common structure that women use in their teams is the experienced entrepreneur, the passionate protege, the local liaison, the industry ally, and the super connector.
7. They Quash the Cycle of Greed
You can search for and find so many articles speaking about the struggles that women can face in pursuing entrepreneurship. One that is constantly brought up is the fact that they aren’t as driven by profits as their male counterparts. The truth is that many of these articles are skewed because they assume that success is related to capital gains.
What women are seeing so clearly is that success is a multi faceted description, and they are choosing to focus more on some of the other attributes of success. This could be an improved work environment for employees, extraordinary customer service, or even community initiatives.
This new wave of women may have the last laugh as to what model is most successful and sustainable. You’ve discovered that it isn’t only profits that will solidify a business in a community, but also the way that the community embraces and supports its new corporate member.
Women understand this quality better which is why these female entrepreneurs are dominating the corporate world.
The 21st century saw an unparalleled rise in the figures of women employment. Increased awareness and a higher rate of education for women have resulted in more women in the workforce, earning their livelihood to sustain themselves, as well as their families.
However, that trend is changing.
According to a Gallup survey, 56% of women do not want to leave their home for work. Modern women increasingly have to multitask between providing for their family as well while maintaining their financial independence.
While some women decide to stay at home and fill their role as a homemaker, some decide not to.
Motivated by their need to contribute towards alleviating the financial burden of the household, or fueled by the desire to build up their careers, many women successfully manage their homes and careers at the same time.
Women have now started searching for the middle ground-opportunities where they look after their home and make money at the same time.
Luckily, in this day and age, technology has created a whole new field of home-based jobs which could not have been possible a decade before.
This article will list down the Top 5 home-based businesses for female entrepreneurs who are looking to earn their living from home.
Contrary to the perception of casual writing, blogging has evolved into a serious business that pays well. It represents an ideal pathway for home-based female entrepreneurs who have a knack for writing about what they love – from software solutions to cooking recipes; there are blogs for almost everything.
Blogging requires serious dedication as well as relevance. A blogger has to constantly up their own game, improving their writing and source material by taking courses and seminars that enhance their writing skills.
Blogging enables a site to lay a business platform for other opportunities such as freelance writing, marketing or even coaching.
A successful blogger is apt at multitasking – which most women are naturally skilled at. From researching the content to writing and editing the draft and adding pictures for added effect, maintaining a blog is no easy task.
Additionally, websites now offer custom templates and plugins to enhance blogs effectiveness, so you need to be well-versed in the technical aspect of blogging as well. You will share your blog for people to read, so you also need to be aware of social media tools to generate views and interaction. Engaging enough?
The best part about blogging is that the start-up costs are next to nothing, and how you can earn money by writing about things about which you’re passionate. You can monetize your blog through direct ad sales, AdSense, and Affiliate marketing.

Some women have a knack of making use of idle things lying around to create something special. Be it a handmade wooden decoration piece or digital downloads such as sketches and other types of art; people are willing to buy your products only if you market them to a broad audience.
This is where Etsy comes in. Etsy is an online, virtual selling platform, much like Amazon – but one that features only handmade products. It is a great opportunity for women to start home-based businesses with an outlet to sell their products, which they can do at their own time, from the comfort of their own homes.
Independent Sales Representative
Many companies, to reduce costs, make use of independent sales representatives who are trained to represent the company, but they work from home.
For stay-at-home women, it presents an ideal opportunity that offers good money as well as flexible working hours. The work demands commitment and excellent communication skills since representatives make a commission based on sales. Women at home can put their experience to use and earn a salary using this branch of multi-level marketing.
Transcription involves listening to audio files and typing out what you hear. This is a relatively easy job for which companies do not list experience as a pre-requisite, which means the only requirement is a computer with an internet connection.
Audio files mostly constitute college lectures and other such files which needed to be typed out. Companies usually give out submission deadlines which mean home-based women have the liberty to set their schedules and work accordingly.
As a beginner, employers may give out a short test to assess your typing speed and accuracy before moving on to official tasks.
Dozens of websites go live every day, and before they are marketed – they need to be checked. Modern women are detail-oriented web surfers, and this job allows them to assess whether the website is intuitive and easy to navigate through.
Many online sites register ‘testers.’ These testers then get website links that they need to check, followed by a form which the testers need to fill citing any problems or improvements that they feel the website requires.
Beginners have to take a test before they get admitted as a ‘tester.’ The test involves dummy websites that they have to check for any errors and navigational difficulties. This job is ideal for stay at home women who are looking to utilize their time on the web to earn some extra cash.
Women Take the Lead: Overcoming Challenges Unique to Women Entrepreneurs
It’s no secret that in recent decades women have cracked the glass ceiling in many previously male-dominated business ventures. Forbes magazine reports that, of the 25 million entrepreneurs in the US, women are more innovative in their endeavors offering more new products and services than their male counterparts.
The U.S. Department of Labor reports that women entrepreneurs employ 8.4 million workers and pay out $264 billion a year in wages.
The days of women secretaries taking messages for male CEOs are largely behind us. Women are the boss now. And with the shift in leadership roles that have accompanied the past few decades, a new leadership style has emerged.
Women do not have to try to fit into the stereotypical male management styles that are overtly harsh or critical.
We, as females, possess certain unique characteristics such as loyalty, intuition, wisdom, compassion, and inner strength that help us – not hinder us – from being better entrepreneurs.
Leading with Wisdom and Gentleness
Women have been managing people for millennia as the backbone of their households and society with wisdom, discernment, and gentleness. A powerful intellect and shrewd business sense are not diminished by female emotion.
Coincidentally, female intuition enhances her business acumen and her wisdom and compassion make her an even more effective leader.
Sheryl Sandberg, COO of Facebook, says, “We hold ourselves back in ways both big and small, by lacking self-confidence, by not raising our hands, and by pulling back when we should be leaning in.” Embracing our femininity instead of pulling away from it makes us better leaders.
The days of doing a man’s job in a man’s world are past; now we get to be the best version of ourselves in a world where we sometimes outnumber the men.
It is our femininity that enables us to overcome obstacles unique to women and ultimately excel in all areas of business – especially entrepreneurship.
Obtaining Funding with Intuition
Many entrepreneurs need to find investors to get their start-ups off the ground. It can be difficult for some women to find the capital they need, especially since most venture capital investors are male. Investors expect large returns on their investments.
It is up to us as women entrepreneurs to use our innate intuition and discernment, creating an effective pitch and building a business capable of generating revenue that will appeal to investors.
There is certainly a need for more women investors. Try seeking out a female angel investor group and take advantage of any educational workshops or mentorship opportunities they may offer.
Take Us Seriously: Female Confidence and Quiet Strength
It sounds crazy since women permeate virtually every area of business, but some women entrepreneurs still struggle to be taken seriously by their peers, especially men.
Consequently, women sometimes feel that they should adopt attitudes more stereotypical of their male counterparts with aggressive management styles. But the confident woman entrepreneur will continue to be herself, embracing the femininity that makes her unique and capable.
Remember, you have got career as a woman. Don’t feel pressured into morphing into a man’s stereotype of effective leadership.
Balancing Work and Family with Unconditional Love and Loyalty
Most entrepreneurs start pursuing their dreams of building their own businesses in their 30’s. This coincides with the age that many women also start to build families of their own.
As women, we fiercely love our families. As entrepreneurs, we are loyally committed to the success of our businesses.
Our families come first, always. But it is possible to effectively juggle work and family life, as we have seen exemplified by working women for decades.
Although our responsibilities can feel overwhelming as entrepreneurs, we usually have more flexibility with our work than if we held traditional corporate jobs.
We can communicate with our staff from the couch while we cuddle a sick child. We can reschedule work meetings around PTA meetings. Think outside of the box and don’t be afraid to try unconventional approaches.
Additionally, managing work and family makes us more compassionate employers. Employees who also juggle work and family appreciate when management allows them the flexibility they need for their families, especially in the form of extended maternity and paternity leave.
Valued workers are more loyal to their companies and the smart female entrepreneur understands that mutual respect in the workplace increases loyalty and productivity.
Feminine qualities such as unconditional love, gentleness, wisdom, intuition, and loyalty do not diminish our abilities as entrepreneurs – they enhance them.
As women entrepreneurs, we should lean into these characteristics that set us apart and benefit everyone around us.
Top 7 Surprising Essential Oils & How They Help You
We all know by now that essential oils are the real deal. From boosting our immune systems to masking odors in our house to helping us catch some much needed rest, essential oils got ya back!
Usually, scents like lavender, lemon, and orange oil are popular go-to’s. However, there are lesser known essential oils that have unique therapeutic properties. And that may just make them the right choice for your individual needs.
Let’s take a look at our list of Top 7 Surprising Essential Oils & How They Help You.
Turmeric Essential Oil
This root is popular in Middle Eastern and South Asian cooking. However, it’s also a staple in Ayurvedic medicine. That’s because the oils extracted from the turmeric root contain a litany of beneficial compounds.
Of these compounds, at least:
20 are antibiotic
14 are cancer-preventative
12 are anti-inflammatory
10 are antioxidants
Studies have confirmed that a specific compound present in turmeric essential oil, curcumin, has anti-cancer properties. Researchers have based this evidence on the statistical facts that those with heavily Indian-based diets report extremely low rates of colon cancer.
Frankincense Oil/ Boswellia
This oil is well known for its use in spiritual rituals. However, there are also therapeutic properties to frankincense oil. Derived from the Boswellia carterri plant, frankincense oil has a very distinct odor. So much so, it earned its moniker “frankincense” from the French term, “franc encens.” This translates to “incense.”
Frankincense oil contains strong anti-inflammatory properties. This oil contains unique terpenes (which are the volatile oils responsible for the frankincense scent), and boswellic acids. Studies have found that boswellic acid, “is the most potent inhibitor of 5-lipoxygenase, an enzyme responsible for inflammation.”
Due to these anti-inflammatory properties, frankincense also helps the digestive system. Compounds in the oils speed up the creation of digestive enzymes. Therefore, frankincense oil can help increase urination, regulate bowel movements, and alleviate bloating.
Holy smokes, holy basil is amazing. Derived from the tulsi plant, holy basil is one of the strongest natural adaptogens. These oils contain unique compounds such as ocimumosides A and B that make holy basil a stress-fighting powerhouse.
Due to stress levels being kept under lock and key, this makes holy basil a natural remedy for adrenal fatigue and hypothyroidism. The biggest reason why we suffer from these conditions are due to the fact that our stress hormone (cortisol) has hijacked our overall hormone production. If we’re pumping out too much stress hormone, there’s not room for much else.
Tulsi can help find hormonal balance is this cortisol-stacked system. Treating stress with holy basil will put the resultative conditions of high cortisol levels in check!
Naturally, peppermint oil can be used for oral care, chest colds, and to give your tea a little kick. However, a not-so-well-known use for peppermint oil is as a natural bug repellent.
Many people correlate bug repellent with citronella (which is also an essential oil, so don’t buy the synthetic candles in bucket). While effective, the smell of citronella may be a bit off-putting. Peppermint oil to the rescue!
Ginger is a lot like its family member, turmeric, as it has very strong anti-inflammatory properties. In fact, 90% of the compounds found in ginger oil are sesquiterpenes. These are defensive agents against bacteria and free radicals.
Derived from Cupressus sempervirens, cypress oil is very effective as a natural cosmetic. Due to compounds such as alpha-pinene, carene, and limonene, cypress oil helps stimulate blood flow throughout the body. This cocktail of compounds makes cypress oil useful in treating varicose veins.
Varicose veins are caused by pressure that builds up on blood vessels and veins. In turn, blood pools in the area, creating the unflattering bulge we know and hate about this condition.
If you apply cypress oil directly to the area, the compounds will help direct blood out of the pool, and allow the vessels to continue their journey to the heart.
Another beauty tip with cypress oil? Tighten your skin with it! Cypress oil serves as a diuretic. Therefore, it guides out salt and water that may lead to fluid retention. In turn, cypress oil can minimize cellulite and help facilitate the growth of collagen.
