Spring has sprung. It’s over, people. It’s time to throw those sweaters and cardigans in the back of your closet and start spending insane amounts of money on swimsuits and sunglasses (that you will lose, over and over and over again.)

Summer is crawling upon us, and with that comes those wonderful summer nights that you dreamed about while curling up to a heating pad during the winter. Wearing shorts, getting tanned, the smell of sunscreen, sleeveless shirts- it’s summertime, y’all.

That beautiful summer sun is more than enough of an excuse to step outside and get a breath of fresh air. Hang out with some friends, take your pets for a walk, start a garden, lounge by the pool, do whatever you can to get enough hours outside before winter creeps back in.

Speaking of the most beautiful time of the year- you know who may be a big- nay, the biggest- fan of summertime?

Your dog.

Summer is your dog’s bread and butter. More time in the park? Check. An excuse to run through every sprinkler system in the neighborhood? Check. Beach trips? Check. Extended hours playing in the backyard? Check. Sun, like, all day long? Check. The smell of cookouts and the possibilities of snagging an unattended hotdog on any given day? Check and check.

Your dog loves summer.

And luckily, there are places in your area that love your dog.

It’s become increasingly popular for local restaurants and bars to reevaluate their pet policy. Long gone are the days where you got shamed for being too attached to your dog. In fact, most bars are more than dog friendly these days. (Some of them even have specialty dog menus. Can I get a puppachino, anyone?)

So why not grab your pup and head on out this summer? We’ve found some great local spots that will allow your furry friend to tag along on one of those hot summer hangouts.

Moonshine Patio Bar + Grill

Just 20 minutes away from The Place at Terracina sits a wonderful little grill called Moonshine. Self-described as an “easygoing get away” Moonshine Patio Bar & Grill offers a menu filled with southern faire. They’re known for their Pimento Cheeseburger, Corn Dog Shrimp, and their dog-friendly patio that dog-lovers have rated 5 stars on more than one occasion. A complimentary bowl of water for your pup can be served upon request, and they have a giant tent-like setting that is perfect for the dog who may need a shaded break.

Ski Shores Waterfront Café

If you’re looking for a café with a view, then look no further. A quick 20 minutes away from The Place at Terracina will take you directly to Ski Shores Waterfront Café. This place has it all- awesome waterfront views, live music on the weekends, a pet friendly outdoor space, and a food and beverage menu that has me ready to get in the car right now. Ski Shores is the perfect place to grab a sweet margarita, relax with your pup and enjoy passing boats and sweet breezes.

Opal Divine’s Marina

A menu for your dog. If that one sentence doesn’t sell you immediately, I don’t know what will. Opal Divine’s is the perfect place to hang out this summer. They offer weekend and brunch menus, plus, upon request, a menu for your furry friend. Known for their Divine Burger and amazing bar service, this place is definitely more than worth the 10-minute drive from your Place at Terracina.

Epoch Coffee

If you’re looking for a coffee spot this summer, I’ve got you covered. Your pooch and you are more than welcomed at Epoch Coffee. 10-minutes away from The Place at Terracina, they have dog-friendly outdoor tables and free Wi-Fi, so you can get some work done outside this summer with your pup by your side.

Perla’s

So, I heard you like seafood. Well, in that case, Perla’s has you covered. Their colorful outdoor patio is the perfect spot for you and your dog this summer. They also offer 50 cents off Oysters during their happy hour at 3-6 PM on weekdays. Just 30 minutes from your front door at the Place at Terracina, Perla’s is the perfect place for you and your pup to enjoy those hot summer evenings.

It’s that time of year again. A time where you get to take a whole day to unconditionally love the woman who brought you into this world- your mother.

From day one, she’s been with you. Literally. You put her through nine whole months of absolute hell, wreaked total havoc on her body, spent all of her money on things like Pokémon cards and comic books, whined day in and day out about stupid things, probably peed the bed more than once, and definitely (accidentally) ruined something important of hers at one point- and yet, she still loves you. So now it’s time for you to show your mama what you’re made of and spoil her rotten for all those years of support, faith, and unrelenting patience.

It’s 2018 and people have gone above and beyond when gift giving. If you’re looking to be creative you’ve got to get your head in the game.

One of my all-time favorite gifts for a mother who loves her kids is when you and your siblings, friends, family pet- all get together and recreate some of her beloved family photos. I mean honestly, I have never seen my mother’s smile so big as when me and my siblings gave her a recreation of one of our childhood photos. There were tears. And the pros were that it was relatively cheap to get everyone together to take a trip down memory lane, and an even longer trip down a Good Will aisle to recreate the outfits we donned as children.

Another great idea is to go the way of lotions / shampoos / and all things self-care. If your mother is anything like mine, she puts herself last. She loves to get gifts for everyone else, but tends to forget that she deserves something special too. If you’ve got the funds, putting together a gift box filled with things like bath bombs, skin creams, face masks and lotions is something that any mom is bound to love. Let your mama know she’s beautiful and that she deserves a long bubble bath and some me-time. As an added bonus, maybe take your dad out of the house for the day, or agree to watch the pets. Sometimes a day of self-care goes farther than you think it will.

Now if you’re anything like me, you’re a last minute kind of planner. Don’t get me wrong, I love my mother to pieces, but with modern day work schedules (both mine and hers) sometimes plans just have to be a little last minute. But have no fear, I’m here to help you come up with some last minute places you can visit this mother’s day to surprise your mom. Because a day out on the town, spending some quality time with your momma, is the perfect gift you can give her.

Brunch It Up!

Just a 15-minute drive from The Place at Terracina is a brunch spot that comes with dozens upon hundreds of positive reviews- Snooze An A.M. Eatery is a stop you gotta make for some good eats. This place doesn’t take reservations- it’s a walk in kinda joint, and I guarantee your mom and you will love it! Some good southern breakfast foods followed by maybe a little bit of reminiscing is the perfect way to get mother’s day started.

Mom-osas, anyone?

If your mom likes to live on the wild side, and you both don’t mind spending the rest of the day a little (maybe a lot) buzzed, then I have an event for you. Eureka! Austin is throwing a Mom-osa Weekend brunch! Starting Sunday at 10 AM you can get your drink on with your mama with a special Mom-osa sampler that includes four different freshly squeezed juices- plus a brunch to go along with it! Plus it’s only 30 minutes away

Spa Time!

Sunday funday can be reimagined using one easy stop- The Spa. Only 25 minutes away from The Place at Terracina you’ll find The Woodhouse Day Spa. This one might involve a little planning ahead, as they do like you to try to put in a reservation at least 24 hours ahead of time, but I promise it’s worth it. If you’re in need of a good massage, look no further. You and your mom can sit back and take the weight off your shoulders with any of The Woodhouse’s Spa Packages. Check it out and prepare for total relaxation!

Make sure you treat your mom right this Mother’s Day and don’t forget to sign up for our newsletter for more Austin fun!

Soon it will be everyone’s favorite day of the year in the workplace…bring your children to work day! It’s always fun to have kids exploring the office. They’re great at running the shredders and pushing all the buttons. It’s a great way to learn about new hiding spaces too!

In reality the benefits of bring your children to work day far outweigh the negatives. It can be a really great experience for children to see their parents at work and vice versa. It can also be really wonderful for your coworkers to meet your children and understand why you work so hard to succeed each and every day.

The Benefits of Bring Your Children to Work Day

Let’s talk about some of those benefits of bring your children to work day!

Stick With It

Children love learning about their parents lives. One of the best things about bring your children to work day is that they get to learn about your life outside of your mom or dad duties. They’ll also get a chance to see that if they stick with their goals they can have a successful career and provide for themselves and their families. It’s also a nice boost of confidence for you because your kids will be SO proud to see you in your work environment!

A New Side Of Parenting

Without bring your children to work day kids might never know the other sides of their parents. We get into a routine that works and we just stick with it. That’s great but it doesn’t shed much light on what happens outside of that daily routine. Your kids will love learning about a new side of you.

You might get the chance to learn something new about them too! It’s an excellent opportunity for everyone to interact in a new environment.

Not Just For Office Workers

Do you work from home? Are you self employed? Are you a stay at home parent? The benefits of bring your children to work day do not just apply to those who leave the home and go to a corporate setting. Working from home and being a stay at home parent are a lot of hard work. It can be very beneficial for your children to see those aspects of life beyond their school day!

Solidifying Those Bonds

Kids grow…fast. When they’re spending most of their time at school and with friends and doing after school activities it can be hard to really solidify your bonds. By taking them with you to work you can a chance to interact with them on a new level.

They’ll get to see you in a new light doing something they might not have known about before! It’s a great way to bond with your children and show them that you are more than just the lucky charms delivery person.

Boosts Respect

Do your children understand that part of the reason why you leave home everyday and head off to work is so they can have a better life? Seeing how hard you work to provide them with a good life can really make a difference in how they treat you. It’s easy to see how the experience might boost respect!

Let’s not forget that there are benefits for parents as well as other employees in the building. Bring your children to work day can have a positive impact on everyone in the office or family. It’s a great way to show your kids why you are proud of your work. It can remind you of all the reasons you have to be proud of how hard you work. It can also be a kind of ‘a-ha’ moment if you’ve been needing an extra push to get re-motivated and work towards the next goal in your career.

Whether you are looking for a foodie experience, art, music or something a bit more adventurous, the date night of your dreams is waiting for you in Austin.

Get Artsy!

If you are looking to enjoy some art with your date, The Canopy, the perfect date idea. The first Saturday of the month, the center hosts what is known as Open Canopy. The event gets its name because all of the galleries and artist studios are open to the public on that day. There are typically special events and art workshops that take place on that day. That means not only can you look at art, but you may also be able to create your own on the date.

For artistic dates, we also recommend: The Comtemporary Austin, and Pinot’s Palette for wine and painting.

The Canopy – 916 Springdale Rd, Austin, TX 78702

Enjoy Date Night Without Breaking the Bank

If money is tight, you may be thinking about skipping date night. But instead, there are two old school options that are both affordable and fun. Peter Pan Mini Golf and Blue Starlite Mini Urban Drive-In make for great Austin dates. They are fun and nostalgic experiences that are also affordable. And best of all, both locations allow you to bring in your own food and drink, making these dates even more affordable. Catch a movie or play a round of golf the next time you are looking for something fun to do that doesn’t break the bank.

While there are many great places to eat in Austin, one of the best places to experience a wide array of food and drink tasting is on in Southeast Austin along Pauls Valley Road and Fitzhugh Road. This street is lined with breweries, distilleries and restaurants that give tours and tastings on the weekends. Some of the more popular places include:

Take a tour of Fitzhugh Street and hop around for a drink and bite at each of the restaurants and bars along the route.

Dance to the Music

There are so many unique and interesting live music spots in Austin that it can be difficult to pick just one. However, if you are on a date and looking for a great live music spot to check out, be sure to hit Elephant Room. This lounge has different local jazz musicians performing nightly. The space is dark and romantic and the music is sultry, making it a great date destination.

Elephant Room – 315 Congress Ave, Austin, TX 78701

There are many benefits of living an active lifestyle. You can enjoy more than just washboard abs and looking good for your social media pictures. Everything from mental health to metabolism is improved by living an active lifestyle.

You might be thinking “but I’m not really into the whole workout scene” and that’s okay! You don’t have to go crazy or jump on board the newest fad programs for dieting and exercise. Anyone can enjoy the benefits of living a healthy lifestyle with some added activity. We’re going to look at some of the ways you can benefit from an active lifestyle right here in Austin.

Benefits of Living an Active Lifestyle

Prevent Risk Factors of Disease

Did you know that one of the benefits of living an active lifestyle is that you can prevent and more easily control some of the risk factors for heart disease, blood cholesterol, diabetes and hypertension? Staying active is a great way to lower risk for these alarming diseases. If you already have these issues getting active can significantly lower your chances of complications and possibly even eliminate the problems altogether.

In the case of hypertension, 30 minutes of plain old walking can lower your blood pressure significantly! If you want to get active but hate the gym, check out these great hiking spots in Austin. There’s something for everyone from beginners to tried and true pros! There are amazing trails near The Place at Terracina.

Keep Weight In Check

Being healthy should always be our main concern but as we age it can be more difficult to control weight. If you are looking for great reasons to live an active lifestyle, controlling weight is a added benefit.

With the boost of activity you can even see some weight loss and muscle tone! It doesn’t have to be a tedious cycle at the gym. You can see awesome results and reap the many benefits from things as simple as walking or bike riding.

Naturally Boost Your Mood

Did you know that physical activity can boost your mood naturally? If you are feeling like you might be in a slump, get active! Some time outdoors mixed with the physical activity can help boost you up and send you down a new, more cheerful path.

Check out these some great weekend trips from Austin. It’s an easy way to get out and enjoy the open road for a few days without breaking the bank!

Bone and Muscle Health

Both muscle and bone health are dependent upon an active lifestyle. Even walking and other low impact exercises can benefit your health in these ways! Reduce your chances of osteoporosis by staying active.

This is especially great if you suffer from muscle problems to begin with. In many cases being more active can provide pain relief from common aches and pains.

Sleep Better

Are you a bad sleeper? One of the benefits of living an active lifestyle is that you can improve your sleep! Being active is a great way to get a better nights rest. It naturally allows you to be more restful at night and can be a much better (and natural) alternative to sleeping medications.

If you are looking for an easy way to get more active that doesn’t involve being alone, look no further than your furry friend. You can enjoy some activity and help your furry friend do the same. There’s plenty to do around Austin with your pup!

Listen, I hate to break it to you, but your apartment smells. Don’t try and convince me otherwise. It does! But here’s the good news, it doesn’t have to. It’s a super simple fix. So if you want to know how to stop your apartment from smelling…read on.

Most of the time, it’s not necessarily YOUR apartment that smells, but actually the smells from your neighbors and other residents wafting through. If your neighbor is someone that smokes, you might have that lingering smell (though all of our MCLife properties are smoke free so….awkward) or it could be them cooking dinner or even their pets.

But sometimes, it’s you.

Some common reasons for smelly apartments are as follows:

  • Trash
  • Cooking
  • General Uncleanliness
  • Pets
  • Smoking

Don’t worry! No matter what’s causing the smell, we’re here to help you fix it.

SOLUTIONS! Trash

We’re all busy, we all got jobs to do and sometimes we forget to do the simple things. Like take out the trash. It’s not uncommon and we all do it. But if we leave it for too long, it starts to stink up our apartment and then that smell like never goes away. Simplest thing you can do? Take your trash out more!

Another way is by sprinkling a little baking soda on the bottom of your trashcan. It’ll take care of the odors and prevent future ones!

Cooking

Dinner might taste delicious, but the after smell…can be a little gross. Prevent this from happening and ruining your dinner by opening a window or two when you’re cooking! Super simple!

General Uncleanliness

We, as humans, smell. We sweat, which causes some not so great smells no matter how strong your deodorant is. And sometimes those smells linger in our apartment. And we’re not saying you’re a smelly person, but just…here are some tips.

  • Open Some Windows:

This is a NUMBER ONE RULE to get your apartment to stop smelling! Get some air flow going to help out, especially in the summer when we’re stewing in our own sweat.

  • Dryer Sheets:
