Introduction - SH Figuarts Majin Buu Figure Review "Buu turn you into candy and eat you!" The Majin Buu is the final villain in the Dragon Ball Z Manga. Honestly, I did not like the Dragon Ball Z Majin Buu Saga when I read the manga as a kid. I felt that the author should have ended the manga after the Cell Arc. All the different forms of the Majin Buu such as Kid Buu, Super Buu (Evil Buu) , Innocent Buu (Fat Buu or Zen Buu) as well as the other intermediate forms as Buu absorbed other characters really got me thinking that the author was running out of ideas.
Nevertheless, the character design is pretty unique and the SH Figuarts Majin Buu (Fat Buu or Zen version) captured this very well.
I knew that the SH Figuarts Majin Buu was going to be a big figure but when I received the actual figure, I was pleasantly surprised that it was HUGE. The box itself is much larger than the SH Figuarts DBZ Nappa figure.
So how big is the box? It measures it measures 10 inches tall x 7 inches wide x 6.5 inches thick. The Majin Buu figure itself is around 7 inches tall.
The box art is nice and spells Majin-Boo, which is the Japanese name for the character.
SH Figuarts DBZ figures usually do not come with a lot of accessories but I am quite satisfied with the interesting pieces that came with the SH Figuarts Majin Buu.
In total, the SH Figuarts Majin Buu comes with 3 sets of inter-changeable heads. One head is for his normal look; another shows off his mischievous and childish side and the last one depicts the Majin Buu with his evil grin. In the Dragon Ball Z manga and anime, Majin Buu is always seen with his eyes closed and seemingly smiling. He is shown opening his eyes only when he is angry and about to do some serious damage.
For hand accessories, there are the standard fists for punching, another two for posing with his mischievous face with tongue sticking out and another one for holding on to a slab of chocolate which is also included as one of the accessories.
The chocolate accessory is quite well done and you can see that the outer surface and the inner surface of the aluminum foil are of different color tones which is what you see in real life.
Majin Buu frequently changes his opponents into chocolates or other desserts and eats them using his “Transfiguration Beam” or “Change Beam”. It would have been good if an additional energy effect depicting this beam was included. But I guess I have gotten used to SH Figuarts figures not including these signature energy effects accessories.
Then, as if Bandai Tamashii Nations heard such complaints, they decided to add in an additional interchangeable head with “Transfiguration Beam” effects together with the SH Figuarts Evil Buu which has a release data of April 2019. This is good news for collectors who already have the Majin Buu (Zen version) and a good marketing strategy by Bandai to get collectors to buy both forms of the Majin Buu.
Also included in the SH Figuarts Majin Buu are 3 cape pieces, which can be attached to his back. There is some articulation on the pegs so you can move the cape pieces up and down. They do not look fantastic as they are separate pieces and many collectors have pointed out that this is the biggest flaw on the figure.
I personally do not have much of an issue with this. By just leaving the capes down and not exposing any gaps, I find that they look totally fine for me. On my display shelf with my SH Figuarts Majin Buu facing the front all the time, I do not think it is a problem at all.
In terms of articulation, the SH Figuarts Majin Buu did a pretty good job with his legs. You get full articulation and he can even do splits without his big fat thighs getting in the way. His knees do not bend too much though as that is the maximum he can go before touching his own thigh.
The Majin Buu figure itself may face some stability issues when standing up. His body is fat and round and his legs are small so I find that I have to bend him forward a little bit at his torso joint in order to balance him properly. However, this is not an issue at all.
Other than that, the arms and head get all the standard poseability that you would expect from an SH Figuarts figure.
Play-ability and Fun Factor
The SH Figuarts Majin Buu is an interesting toy figure to add to your SH Figuarts DBZ figures collection. Popping the interchangeable heads and hand pieces on and off is very easy and you can feel that these are sturdy and not cheap plastics. The vibrant colors on this character add contrast to your toy collection. I find that my favorite pose of the Majin Buu toy figure is that of the sitting position and think about it – which other character can pull off the sitting pose as comfortably as the Majin Buu? He is totally at ease sitting in the background, watching other DBZ toy figures fighting it out while he munches happily on his chocolates.
Value for Money
Is the SH Figuarts Majin Buu worth the money? At a retail price of 8,424 JPY which works out to be around USD$75, I would say it is well worth it given its size and how iconic this character is. Miss out on him and you will always seem to be missing a companion for the SH Figuarts Majin Vegeta, Evil Buu and Mr Satan.
I just moved to my new house and finally got a proper toy display cabinet for my toy collection. The centre-piece of my collection is of course the Guyver anime figures from the Maxfactory Bio Fighter Collection Series.
I have had many friends coming over to my place and commenting that these Guyver Figures look very nice but they had no idea who these characters were. If you do not already know them and are a fan of anime, I highly recommend that you purchase the Guyver Anime: Complete Box Set [Blu-ray] from Amazon.com to get to know them. It is just 26 episodes so it will not take up a lot of your time to start a new anime series.
I consider myself lucky to have been able to complete the collection way before the prices sky rocketed in the secondary market. Just doing a quick search on Ebay and you will find that the average listed price for the Guyver Figures is about USD$200 to USD$400 per figure meaning the prices have more than tripled from the time of release. Some rarer Guyver figures like Guyver III or the two Zoalords do pop up once in a while on Amazon.com or Ebay.com.
I reckon that to complete the Guyver figures collection from the Bio Fighter Collection series starting from scratch today would cost you somewhere around USD$4000 or more.
These Guyver Figures are no longer in production but there is a new series of Figma Guyver figures which was released but I am not sure if we will ever get to see such a line-up with so many figures as the Bio Fighter Collection Series.
True collectors familiar with the Guyver Figures in the Bio Fighter Collection would be quick to point out that I am missing two more Guyver Figures and hence this is not a 100% complete collection.
Here they are still mint in box. The Guyver I Image Head Figure and the Guyver III with Dark Blades. It's a pity that the Guyver III's box has gotten yellowish over the years. The one I have on display is the Guyver III with Clear Blades which glow in the dark while the Guyver III with Dark Blades was a second release. They both look great!
I hope I have managed to share my love for these Guyver figures with you. They are really nice to look at and I hope you would be interested know more about these characters.
Hot Toys has released another Justice League collectible figure, this time being the Justice League Hot Toys Batman Deluxe Figure. This will be the second Hot Toys Justice League Batman figure, the first being the Batman Tactical Suit figure. So far, we are missing a Hot Toys Cyborg figure to complete the Justice League line up and Batman has already gotten a second release.
The difference in the Hot Toys Justice League Batman Deluxe Collectible figure from the Batman versus Superman version is that it includes a Parademon diorama stand as well as a facial sculpt of Ben Affleck fully unmasked and a Parademon gun. The most obvious difference though is that the costume looks very much updated and looks more fitting and aggressive.
The SH Figuarts Broly Dragon Ball toy is one massive figure. He stands even taller than Nappa and is definitely going to stand out in your Dragon Ball Z toy display. SH Figuarts has also included several green spherical special effects parts for Broly's attack which is a great addition because SH Figuarts is usually not very generous with special effects parts. The SH Figuarts Broly figure has a very nice sculpt and as seen in the anime, his irises disappears when transforming into this Super Saiyan form and adds to his maniacal look.
The massive growth in his muscle mass does nothing to slow him down unlike the Super Saiyan Third Grade transformation that Trunks attempted. With muscle mass increasing so much, Trunk's speed was greatly reduced and as pointed out by Perfect Cell, what good is such power if you cannot hit your opponent. It was not the case with Super Saiyan Broly as he evades a joint attack by Goku and Piccolo effortlessly.
The SH Figuarts Broly Dragon Ball Toy figure is a must have for any serious SH Figuarts Dragon Ball Figures collector.
The SH Figuarts Broly Figure comes in at approximately 7.5 Inch high, appropriately taller than other S.H.Figuarts Dragon Ball characters.
He comes with two facial expression parts including one maniacal smirking face and the other being a berserk-like scream Additional parts include three unique energy-sphere effect parts and interchangeable hand piece.
This version of the SH Figuarts Naruto Sage Mode figure comes with his Happi coat and a big ninja scroll carried by Naruto and depicts his appearance when he fought the 6 Paths of Pain who had just destroyed Konoha. This is a revised version and Naruto looks more mature and powerful. The coat is removable and he can be posed in his normal orange jump suit.
I like the inclusion of this giant ninja scroll that comes in the SH Figuarts Naruto Advance Sage Mode figure. I still remember his appearance standing on the head of a toad ready for battle with the 6 Paths of Pain, epic scene indeed.
Great pose with Jiraya, another one of my favourite characters. The SH Figuarts Naruto line is doing pretty well with many great releases.
Uchiha Madara was the legendary leader of the Uchiha clan and was a child prodigy who was born with a naturally strong chakra. His constant rivalry with Hashirama who was both a friend and competitor drove him to pursue increasing powers which eventually awakened his Sharingan.
The S.H. Figuarts Madara Uchiha "Naruto" Action Figure depicts him in the his appearance in the Eye of the Moon Plan arc and comes with two interchangeable heads. One of them shows him alive when he founded Konoha together with Hashirama and the other shows him with a cracked face and a sneer as seen in the Manga when he detected the chakra of his rival Hashirama.
The S.H. Figuarts Madara Uchiha "Naruto" Action Figure comes with 3 interchangeable hand parts to allow him to grasp his weapons as well as perform hand signs for the many jutsu that he is well versed in. Uchiha Madara is skilled in all five nature transformations as well as the Yin-Yang release. As an Uchiha, he has a natural affinity for the Fire Release and thus it is only app that the hand parts come with one depicting him executing a fire jutsu.
The weapons that Madara were commonly seen wielding are also included in the SH Figuarts Marara Action Figure, namely, a gunbai and a kama. The gunbai is a wide fan with tomoe on it and is used by Madara to deflect incoming attacks and to use as a mace or flail for slicing at his enemies.
The kama is a sickle like weapon which Madara uses with a chain attached to its end to use as a weapon for tossing as well as for close combat. Both the gunbai and the kama are included nicely in the S.H. Figuarts Madara Uchiha "Naruto" Action Figure.
The SH Figuarts Madara Action figure from the Naruto Series is available for Order on Amazon.com.
The Dark Knight Trilogy by Christopher Nolan starring Christian Bale as Batman is one of my all time favorite movie series. Now, SH Figuarts has released a Batman figure featuring the armor from the second installment of The Dark Knight Trilogy and the result is awesome.
I'm glad that Bandai Tamashii Nations released the Batman figure based on the armor from the second series because it features separation of the protective plates for better agility and speed. The separation of his cowl from his body armor also allows Batman to turn his head.
I personally think that the sculpt of the SH Figuarts The Dark Knight figure is spot on and highly detailed. It is a good substitution for Hot Toys Batman figures for collectors who are not into 12 inch figures or have space or budget constraints.
In terms of facial sculpt, the SH Figuarts The Dark Knight figure has already done a pretty good job in capturing Christian Bale's features. For this price, you don't expect Hot Toys standards.
Accessories are a bit lacking and the figure comes with the sticky bomb gun featured in the Hong Kong scene where Batman broke into the building to kidnap Lau back to Gotham to stand trial. You can tell that it looks decent enough for this scale. Other accessories are two batarangs, one grappling hook and a few interchangeable heads and hand parts and that's about it.
The cape on the S.H. Figuarts Batman "The Dark Knight" is made of real fabric and there are some wires inside it which can be shaped to help with posing. Just look at this pose with his cape that looks like it is flapping in the wind. SH Figuarts really put in some thought into this figure instead of just releasing him with a piece of fabric attached.
The Bandai Tamashii Nations SH Figuarts Naruto Series - Gaara figure comes with 4 interchangeable hands, 2 interchangeable faces, folded arm part, Sand Effect for his signature Desert Coffin Jutsu as well as a stand and his gourd which holds his chakra infused sand.
The paint job on the figure is nicely done and he comes with his gourd on his back. One of the problems with the SH Figuarts Gaara figure is that this may cause some issues with his balance but he still stands nicely. The gourd is pegged on his back so it is easily removable.
Articulation is great and the flaps in front of his legs can be bent and allows for a wide range of movement as seen from the pictures here.
The Jutsu effect also comes with a stand for support and the SH Figuarts Gaara looks pretty cool. The thing about SH Figuarts figure is that they tend to get the face sculpt of the characters very accurately so you really feel like you are owning a part of your favourite anime and manga.
The Hot Toys Justice League Wonder Woman (Deluxe Version) gets a timely release together with the highly anticipated Justice League movie. This version of the Hot Toys Justice League Wonder Woman is a much improved version from the previous Hot Toys Wonder Woman release.
This time round, the facial sculpt of Wonder Woman based off the beautiful Gal Gadot is further improved from it's predecessor. Her lips and eyes look much more natural and life-like. Costume wise, the Hot Toys Justice League Wonder Woman (Deluxe Version) comes with her red, blue and gold movie accurate armor with weathering effect.
The fur overcoat that comes with the Hot Toys Justice League Wonder Woman is really very realistically done and goes very well with the toy figure.
Other than her sword, shield and a wound up Lasso of Truth which were included in the previous Hot Toys Wonder Woman release, the deluxe Justice League version comes with many more accessories.
There are two yellow colored Lasso of Truth to depict the whip glowing brightly in battle. Her Bracelets of Submission also comes with two colors, silver for normal state and another orange version which to show them pulsating with energy.
Other fun accessories are the magnetic sparkling bullet effects to simulate the bouncing of bullets off her Bracelets of Submission.
