Gifting your wedding guests with a bomboniere is a traditional way of thanking your friends and family for being a part of your marital union. While super thoughtful, often these gifts end up being left behind, or thrown out by the guests. Instead of the old fashioned idea of giving everyone yet another candle, why not come up with something thoughtful and unique to show your gratitude? With Marigold & Grey, a Washington, DC based company, you can order pre-designed, or custom curated gift boxes for a stress-free and beautifully executed gift giving experience.
Marigold & Grey started with a wedding focus (though since have expanded into corporate events and client appreciation gifting as well) and can do everything from welcome boxes to wedding party gifts, amenity boxes, and more. All you have to do is fill out an inquiry and questionnaire with your wedding details, and they’ll come up with an initial design for you, that you can then work on together to meet your exact vision!
One of the gift boxes that Marigold & Grey put together
which we loved was a welcome bag for guests going to a wedding in the Dominican
Republic. The rattan box included itineraries for the weekend, a variety of
sunglasses, sunscreen, and a beach wrap, as well as some tasty snacks, all
wrapped up in a neat bow with individualized notes.
Marigold & Grey also has pre-designed boxes, such as the
“Will You Be My Bridesmaid?” or “Thank You For Being My Bridesmaid” gifts,
which range from $75 – $144 USD. The decorative boxes include snacks of gourmet
cardamom crisp cookies or organic raspberry cave cookies, champagne gummy
bears, luxury candles, floral screen cleansing towelettes and letterpress
notepads, all topped off with fresh greenery, floral fill, and a lovely satin
ribbon to tie it all together. The larger packages also add a You Are Amazing
mug, rose sangria bath bombs, nail polish, and a beautiful robe to wear. After
the gift box is put together you can add a personalized hand-written message on

Accessories can completely change the look of a wedding ensemble, taking a sleek and simple dress to new heights. For bespoke veils, headpieces, and belts with a vintage vibe, look no further than Hushed Commotion! This Brooklyn based company is run by Thea Bloch-Neal, who handcrafts her pieces, which feature a lot of beading, metallics, floral motifs and geometric designs.
There are so many stunning varieties of veils offered by Hushed Commotion. The Adria Veil with halo headpiece of golden flowers topped with crystals and pearls comes in silver and gold, and can double up as a belt. It reminds us of a Medieval princess and has a beautiful ethereal feel to it. The Lila Birdcage and Scarlett veils are a fantastic choice in destination, where you might want something a little lighter that doesn’t touch the sand. The Leona veil has a gorgeous comb on the back reminiscent of a crown, while the Bradley Turban Veil is a beautiful sparkling sheer black fabric (it also comes in ivory) for a bride who might not be interested in wearing all white. The Fletcher veil comes with feathered pieces that match perfectly with the Norma earrings.
When it comes to earrings, Hushed Commotion offers everything from eclectic drop downs like the star shaped Elia pieces, and elegant tassled Margot option. The Noel has a geometric design that climbs the ear, while the Shalom earrings will provide you with a pop of ‘something blue’ for luck. The oversized floral design of the Raquel earrings pairs perfectly with the Katie crown, which can also be worn as a hair piece atop a bun, or even a belt.
There is no shortage of crowns with Hushed Commotion. Everything from Coachella inspired headpieces like the Darby and the Rowan, to Gossip Girl era headbands like the Jasper, delicate crowns like the metallic Neve, and so much more. If crowns aren’t your cup of tea, there are plenty of barettes and combs available as well, such as the 1950s art deco inspired Belmont barette, Clyde comb, or Shira comb, to the floral designs in the Ryan barette, Joey comb, and Justine comb.
We also found fantastic belt designs that are the perfect addition to a dress. We can’t get enough of the Bennett and Jolene belts with dangling tassels, which add a touch of the country to your destination wedding in the Caribbean. The Paloma and the Parker belts add a pop up gold to your dress that really amp up the elegance of your look, and the Bridgit belt is perfect for a bride who loves colour and wants pink to be a theme in her dream wedding.
These are just a few of our favourite pieces, however there
SO MANY options to choose from on the website. Prices are reasonable while
still reflecting the quality of the unique pieces created by this incredible
artisan, and we know you’re going to love what she creates!
Spring is in the air and that has our minds focused on one thing – floral!
One highlight of weddings is of course the wedding cake! Wedding cakes these days are anything but basic or ordinary, there are so many different ways to add décor to make them more customized to your special day. One trend in specific that we love is adding floral!
You can dip your toe in this by going with more greenery or touches of simple flowers, or you can make the floral more of the focal point with brighter and larger stems.
We’ve included some of our favourite looks here for you to see!
We’re excited to announce that one of our favorite properties, Nizuc Resort & Spa, has opened a new wedding venue! The Nizuc Garden is a stunning outdoor location that can be used for ceremonies, cocktail hours, receptions, or welcome events.
The Garden is surrounded by lush greenery and water which is perfect for a Vintage wedding or Boho chic wedding. We love the idea of playing up the natural elements of the space by adding items such as Pampass grass, wooden harvest tables, bamboo charger plates, muted beige tones, gold accents and tropical flowers.
wait to see all of the incredible weddings that take place at Nizuc’s new
When it comes to choosing an engagement ring, it’s always been said to choose something that will never go out of style. Princess cuts and round solitaires have stayed on top when it comes to ring trends, but in 2019 we have seen more alternative styles that have been rising in popularity. Oval and pear shape diamonds dominated in 2018. In 2019 we have been seeing those same cuts, but set in a more unique way. Blu Boho has shown some stunning new styles such as this off center pear shaped diamond, and this vertically placed pear shape diamond with a delicate halo.
If you’re not into a traditional colorless diamond, we have been seeing a rise in black gems that make beautiful center stones. We love this oval or pear shaped option from Tabert Goldsmiths paired with the delicate gold pave band. Edgy meets feminine with this off-beat style.
The cliché of being proposed to with your grandmother’s engagement ring might actually be a good thing, since Vintage rings are making a comeback. We have been loving floral halos and marquise cuts which are linked closely to the 1960’s. We’re also crushing on black speckled engagement rings which perfectly combine vintage and modern style.
We’re seeing a rise in popularity for emerald cut diamonds and three stone rings. The emerald diamond is clean and simple, and the elongated shape makes the center stone look larger than a round or princess cut. After Meghan Markle’s engagement to Price Harry in late 2017, we started seeing more three stone engagement rings. With more finger coverage, this style is a killer for making the whole setting look larger than having a single stone.
Art deco inspired rings are trending with their 1920’s look. Our favorite art deco rings are from Heidi Gibson who named her most popular ring fittingly after the Great Gatsby. This design features small baguette diamonds in a starburst shape surrounding the center stone. This style of ring is different and definitely for the more dramatic or daring bride. For brides who love this style but are looking for something slightly more subdued, Heidi also has another design called the Rhapsody Petite which features a pear shaped diamond with a double halo.

Instead of ‘something blue’, in honour of St. Patrick’s Day we’ve put together a wedding inspiration board for you, all about SOMETHING GREEN! Not only is it fitting for any wedding in and around the holiday, or for couples wanting to honour their Irish heritages, but greenery is also very on trend for weddings at any time of the year.
From flowing bouquets with hanging ivy and palm leaves, succulent boutonnieres, towering tree-like centrepieces, and sprigs of greenery on the wedding cake, there are tons of ways to add natural greens to your florals. For a statement piece, have a stunning ceremony arch reminiscent of a woodland forest, or a large greenery based photo wall. Add green chair covers or chair bows to your seating, beautiful textured table runners and napkins in your favourite shade, or charger plates to the tables for a pop of colour at the reception. When it comes to clothing, adding a touch of vibrant green to your wedding shoes, garter, or even the tulle under your dress can be a cute and eclectic way to add to the green theme. Having the bridesmaids in shades of green from a light mint to a vibrant emerald, or the groom and groomsmen in olive green tuxes – which are all the rage on the red carpet this season – are a great way to showcase your favourite colour. You can even incorporate green into your wedding invitations, dinner menus, seating charts, and place cards. he great thing about green is that it varies so much as well, ranging from chartreuse, to forest, kelly to jade, olive to lime, hunter to teal, turquoise to neon, and of course we can’t forget Shamrock Green on this fantastic holiday!
When Danielle & Marc first started to think about their wedding, Mexico seemed like a no-brainer. The pair both love to travel, and throughout their relationship there had definitely been an underlying theme of all things Mexican – from first date restaurants, to vacations and everything in between. Then it just became a question of finding the perfect spot for them to travel to with their friends and family. Their dream venue was somewhere that incorporated a unique style and great food, and after seeing the gorgeous Acre Baja in San Jose del Cabo the decision was made!
The wedding couple started their day by getting ready at the trendy Bahia Hotel & Beach House in Cabo San Lucas. Excitement was running high as Danielle and Marc spent the morning getting ready with some of their nearest and dearest.
Just a short drive from the hotel is Acre Baja, a 25 acre farmland in the foothills of San Jose del Cabo. Danielle & Marc chose this gorgeous venue for many reasons, including the incredible food and the unique minimalistic design of the space. In addition to their event spaces, Acre Baja also has treehouse rooms that guests can stay in over night! The couple had their first look right at the entrance, with the lush greenery that adorns the entire property acting as the perfect backdrop.
