Little Yarn Friends | Rachel H’s Amigurumi, Crochet & Crafts.
I’m Rachel, living in sunny Singapore. A lover of artsy-craftsy things ever since I was a kid. I am a self-taught crochet-amigurumi artist. I picked up some helpful crochet skills from the Internet all thanks to other talented crochet artists from all over the world that are so generous and willing to share their knowledge.
On 8th June 2019, we were gathered at Betsy’s new cosy knitting studio for our mini Ugly Ami Party! The party started with a brief self-introduction around the room, ran through the ugly ami crochet patterns to make sure everyone understood the instructions before Betsy started with Wage’s arm demonstration.
I am always in awe how well Betsy teaches her students. Her explanation is always crystal clear and she made sure that even beginners understood her. Whenever I assist her classes, I never fail to learn new tips and tricks from her.
As for me, I’m more of a creator and designer rather than a teacher. So this was a really great collaboration between the two of us.
Everyone successfully completed their Wage arms! Hooray..
We ended the session with a simple lucky draw. And the lucky winners goes to…

I never would have thought Little Yarn Friends will still be alive after 7 years? I sincerely want to Thank all of you for joining this silly journey with me. I have not been the most consistent for the past few years. Sometimes I just go missing for months. Other times I just lost my inspiration. But THANK YOU my loyal friends (both old and new) for sticking with me while I transit through different phases in life. I have no idea what the future holds, but I really do hope to continue to create and bring silliness and joy through this craft. Hopefully I get some breakthroughs this year!
A big thank you to Lisa Kok and your team for choosing my humble blog to be listed as Top 30 Women Bloggers of 2018 along side with 29 wonder women from different walks of life! What a nice way to end 2018 with this exciting news. :)
I started this blog back in 2012. It is a place for me to keep track my progress of various crafting projects as well as an outlet for me to escape from the never ending pressure of adulthood. Haha! I feel we all need to lighten up sometimes, to have a balanced life and to do things that make our hearts happy. Fast forward 6 years later, I am still enjoying every bit of it. So thank you for from the bottom of my heart for embarking this journey with me. With that, I hope to continue sharing what I love with all of you.
Cheers, Rachel H

If you know me personally, I am a huge fan of zebras! I was so happy that Artlette opened another batch of Zebra Acrylic Painting Workshop because I was devastated when I couldn’t attend the previous time due to work commitments. Thank God my rest day fell on the same day as the workshop! You have no idea how excited I was!

The workshop happened 4 days ago on a raining afternoon. Perfect weather to stay indoors and paint.
I’ve always admire people that are gifted in drawing and painting. It’s something that I hope to have since I was a kid. But I am really quite bad at it. Haha!
The last time I painted was probably in secondary school? This is my first time working with acrylic paint and painting on a canvas. So I was quite nervous at first when I stared at this white canvas, clueless on how to even begin.
But the instructor at Artlette is very experienced and patient. She guided each of her students to make sure all of us were happy with our finished art piece. Continue scrolling to see some photos of my Zebra painting from start to finish. :)
The first step was to outline the zebra. This photo was taken after the instructor amended my first sketch.
Then we sketched out blocks on the zebra in various sizes so we can fill them in with different colours later.
This is the fun part, mixing the paint to get a desired colour for the background. I was going for Tiffany Blue, but it turned out a little more green than expected. It’s ok, it’s still a very pretty colour. :)
We were given 5 minutes to paint the background as well as the sides of the canvas.
This is the time consuming part, mixing and painting the blocks in different colours. But this is also the less stressful and therapeutic part, where I get to slowly fill up my white canvas with pretty colours.
Blend the face, blend the face!
Moving on to the tricky part, painting on the black stripes. Needed guidance from the instructor for this part.
Fast forward 3 1/2hours later, tadaaaa! Here’s a photo of my completed Zebra Acrylic Painting! :,) The satisfaction after seeing your completed artwork is indescribable. You should really give it a try too.
I’m so excited to share with you the recent We Bare Bears Introductory Amigurumi Crochet Workshop we had on 7th Oct 2018 (sun).

The workshop was held at Artlette (Thomson Plaza #03-18), a beautiful and conducive studio for both young and old to get creative and crafty. :)
Took a photo of the room that we used that morning, perfect for small classes like mine! :) I kept my class to 5 pax at most because I want to make sure I get to personally assist and help everyone that attended the class.
Little Yarn Friends are standing by their positions to meet their new friends.
It’s time to crochet away! Everyone is looking really focused, perfecting their single crochet stitches. :)
Pattern reading was also covered in the class. And Cassandra is doing a really good job! :)
After 3+ hours of hardwork, everyone successfully completed their pandas! *scream with excitement* Job well done ladies! I like how each pandas have their own unique flavour even though all of us are following the same instructions and pattern. That’s the beauty of crocheting amigurumis.
Thank you ladies for spending your Sunday morning with me. I hope you enjoyed the class as much as I did. I also want to take this opportunity to thank Charlotte for opening up your studio space for us. Looking forward to more in the near future.
Cheers, Rachel H
