How fun is this jumpsuit?! It’s by this brand called Band of GypsiesI bought it when I was in the US, but you can buy them online which is always excellent! I love how their pieces are really floral and floaty and ruffley and a bit boho, which is perfect for us going into summer (or any lucky vacationers- I know 2 people in Fiji and 1 person at the Maldives right now- the jealousy struggle is real!)

We took these photos at our new house! Obviously it’s a construction site right now, and not a real house, but we really want to document the process as we build, and share everything with you guys (plus the lighting was good! haha). Once the house is all built I know we will look back on these photos and think of when we wanted to be in the new house already so badly, and it will be cool to show our future children one day too, that their mum was young once and wore jumpsuits on construction sites!

So I thought a hair update was in order, especially since these photos really show my hair in more detail. So as background, I haven’t dyed my hair for two years and was really trying to grow it out. I have only had one hair cut all year. You might know that I was also taking Biotin supplements (I bought mine here) one per day for the past 8 or so months. I noticed this really helped my hair grow. I felt like my hair growth was plateauing a bit, and I feel like the biotin really helped it get a few more inches.  I also really love this new hair care range I picked up when we were in the US. I bought the shampoo, conditioner and leave in treatment. You can get them here, or if you’re in Australia, here and here.  You can really see my hair growth from my natural hair colour- since this has been TWO years of growth, you can really see what I’m battling here! But when you’re fighting genetics, you can only do your best- supplements, healthy eating, less colour and heat, and good products.

Real talk- it can be frustrating when I see girls with long thick hair almost down to their waist, or the bloggers with flowing curls. You have to remember that this is genetics. You can try your best, and still not get hair like that, and you just have to accept it, and remember that everyone has their positives, and of course everyone has flaws. Some people have perfect skin, some people are naturally slender, or have long hair, strong nails, etc, the list could go on. Everyone is beautiful in their own way, you just need to focus on what you HAVE, instead of what you don’t have. <3

Weekend getaways are my absolute fave. You get the excitement of going somewhere new, without the stress of a major holiday. I love having something to look forward to, so I always make sure I have a few short getaways planned throughout the year. Plus they’re a fab way of exploring places near you- give me a beach, lake, countryside or winery any weekend!

I usually plan my getaways to a T, but sometimes, especially if you’re going with a group of people, you’re not always sure what’s going to be on the agenda. This is why it’s especially important to pack smartly- curating your clothes so you have a selection of chic outfits ready for any event that might pop up (that fits in one bag!)

I have a weekend getaway at the beach coming up, but my picks are perfect for any weekend away you might have planned. These are the ten essentials you need that will ensure you have a relaxed, stylish break!:

1.Matching set- This is one of my fave trends right now for high impact glam. Plus you can mix-and-match the top and bottoms with other pieces in your suitcase to create whole new outfits. There are heaps of gorgeous two-piece sets here, and Showpo has tonnes of options too. I’ve picked my faves below- just click on the image for a full look at each outfit!

2.Something denim- Shorts, skirts or jeans, a denim piece is a necessity for a weekend away. Wear it with the top from your matching set, or use my swimsuit tip below for space saving! Showpo also has some of my fave denim this season, they have all the high-fashion styles that can sometimes be hard to find- distressed, high waisted, mum jeans, raw hems- at really reasonable prices:

3.One-piece swimsuit- Glamorous and flattering, a one-piece is perfect for poolside, as well as doubling as a chic bodysuit with your denim piece. Below are my fave selections, including picks from two of my fave stores for swimwear, David Jones and ShopBop:

4.Fabulous sunglasses- Need I say more? A pair of glam sunnies will add oomph to any outfit!

5.Stylish hat- As with the sunglasses, a stylish hat is a necessity for a weekend away. Reminiscent of times past when travelling sans hat was a social faux pas, a hat will add style to any outfit (plus the practicality of sun protection!)

6.Cosmetically elegant sunscreen- When you’re leaving your office for a weekend in the sun, a good quality sunscreen is a necessity, not an option! Gone are the days when you slop on gooey sticky sunscreen- todays sunscreens are ‘cosmetically elegant’ (my favourite term ever!) which means you remain matte and protected from the sun (with no shine or breakouts!) This is my fave sunscreen, and this one is really good too.

7.Faux tan- I feel my best when I’m bronzed and glowing, so I love a faux tan for weekends away. If you don’t have time to fake it before you leave (I wouldn’t recommend trying to tan at the hotel), then you can always use this miracle in a can to get that flawless look instantly.

8.Day-to-night bag- Remember, you only have one suitcase! A bag you can use during the day and evening, is the perfect space-saver, plus you don’t have to fuss with moving the contents of your handbag. This bag from FarFetch is perfect and I can attest to its practicality- I used it almost daily when we were in the US recently for sightseeing all day through to dinner and a show at night.

9.Just-in-case heels- You might have a glam dinner planned, but even if you don’t, I think it’s a good idea to bring a trusty pair of heels- it’s better to be safe than sorry! (and it’s better to be over-dressed than under-dressed!) I ticked the ‘on sale’ box when searching for new heels on Lyst, so most of my picks below are on sale (Yes, please!):

10.Luxe PJs- Your outfits are perfect, your skin is glowing, so don’t finish your day in an old t-shirt- make sure you fall asleep on a bed (made by someone else!) in beautiful luxe PJ’s. Trust me, you’ll feel so much better! I adore the totally luxe Eberjey PJ’s (you can get them from ShopBop) and Kate Spade sleepwear is the perfect mix of pretty and posh!

St Frock Dress (c/o)

You know I am SO ready for summer! The long days, balmy nights, sundresses, short shorts, white clothes against tanned skin, coconut scented everything, cocktails and beach hair. The list of things I love goes on! And this white dress from St Frock totally fits the bill! <3 I wore it here with my fave suede lace up wedges, and it was the perfect outfit for a weekend lunch with my love. He even said how much loves this dress- and he’s the husband of a fashion blogger- he sees a LOT of clothes!

I adore the off the shoulder ruffle detail (obviously!), and the tie waist and A-line skirt gives it a bit of a old school glamour feel. Plus I love that the skirt is lined- little things like this make such a difference. I also love this, this and this dress for summer.

We’ve been keeping it pretty low key since we got back from the US. I suppose we are taking a little breather before the craziness of Christmas! I’m a massive homebody anyway, so I’ve been enjoying it (yes I love travel and I’m a homebody- a bit weird I suppose!). We officially broke ground on the building of our house last Thursday, and already I’m thinking of when to start packing, buying new furniture, etc. I know I’m jumping the gun a bit, but I also know how time just flies, and moving is such a big job (and big pain!) that I want to be as prepared as possible. I actually bought this book in preparation. I’ve heard so many good things about it, so I can’t wait to read it and let you all know how it is!

Gingham is one of the hottest trends at the moment, and it really is the perfect fabric for all year round. It is traditionally black and white so fits right in for winter, but the light cotton fabrics make for a breezy, comfy summer outfit. What’s even better is when one top combines two of my fave trends- gingham and ruffles= MIND BLOWN! I picked this top up in Zara, but I’ve shared a few of my other fave gingham tops at the moment- how gorgeous are the ruffle details, embroidery and ties. I’m obsessed.

So Boyi and I are going camping with some friends this weekend- I’m nervous and excited. I haven’t been camping since I was 11 or 12, and to be honest it didn’t leave me with a good impression! But Boyi has assured me he bought a nice tent (it’s 8 person and you can stand up straight in it, so it should be big enough for the two of us! :-P) and a blow up bed, and there’s bathrooms nearby, etc. I mean I’m not totally precious- we’re only going for one night so it’s not like I’m going to be curling my hair or anything. But a real bathroom is definitely nice, am I right?! I’m so looking forward to a leisurely drive out into the country (listening to Country Roads, yes!), watching the sun set over the lake and smores by the fire. Oh and I haven’t even told you about the camping chair Boyi got me- it’s purple, and has a wine holder and a cooler that stores a whole bottle of wine. I mean I won’t need that much, but it’s nice to know you’re prepared! He really is such a thoughtful husband lol. So I will keep you updated on how it goes, and don’t forget to follow along on my Instagram stories!

Dress: Old, but I’ve linked similar ones below

The start of a new year makes me think of new beginnings and a ‘fresh start’. If I could describe motivation as a feeling, I would call it a wave- it can wash over you and make you think you can achieve anything, but it can also leave you. I know you’re thinking, it’s the end of February, the time for ‘new year, new you’ posts was 6 weeks ago. But I don’t know about you guys, I went into 2017 guns blazing- I was over the indulgence overload that was December, I was going to be a blogging master, workout and get a Victoria’s Secret body, and be the best wife ever. By the beginning of February I was already wanting a break. What happened?!

The outcome I was focused on hadn’t changed, but I realised working to achieve your goals can be a long process, with ups and downs. It isn’t just a simple, “I’ve realised my goal, okay I’ll just achieve it now with the exact same level of commitment and motivation I felt when I had my ‘this is my goal!’ revelation”. I’m a very visual person, so after realising this, I needed to stop it inefficiently swirling around my head. I identified key feelings/thoughts that were suffocating my motivation:

If I can’t do it 100%, I just won’t do it.

This is so wrong on so many levels. I am guilty of thinking, well I’m too exhausted/busy to write a whole blog post tonight so I guess I’ll just watch 3 hours of Netflix and go to bed. Although I love Netflix (right?! <3) I still feel guilty and unsatisfied that I didn’t work on something I love which makes me feel good about myself. What I’m realising is even if I do a little bit of blogging this makes me feel better than doing nothing at all. This SO applies to other things in my life like exercising and catching up with family and friends.

It’s not perfect, therefore I won’t do it/share it/post it.

Any perfectionists out there, can I get an amen?! I actually wouldn’t call myself a perfectionist, but I do set a high standard for myself. And I would definitely call myself a control freak haha! But there comes a point where you have done your best. Where you need to step back and think “This there, is the best that I can do right now”. Whether it’s exercise, blogging, a clean house, or being a wife or girlfriend. You sometimes need to just go with it. But remember- this might not be the best you can do…ever! Every day is a opportunity for improvement.

Striving to achieve a goal you actually think you’re not good enough to achieve.

This sounds like a total cliche until you ask yourself- Do you believe in yourself? Do you truly believe you can achieve your goals? Or are you striving for a goal you think you aren’t good enough to achieve? I am guilty of this. I think it’s the norm to be critical of yourself, and I think I’d even say this is more so the case for girls. Not pretty enough, thin enough, stylish enough, outgoing enough, the list could go on. This is ridiculous, harmful, a ridiculous waste of time and will stop you from achieving your goals. I literally need to remind myself on a daily basis that I am good enough to achieve my goals!

Comparing yourself to others.

Now this doesn’t just belong in this blog post, this belongs in the mantra of life. Let me preface this by saying you can look to others for a little motivation or inspiration, but when you’re just comparing yourself to others and it’s stifling your own goals, happiness and efficiency, then you just gotta stop!

Top: Asos | Earrings: Ilymix | Shorts: Zara | Slides: Country Road (last season, similar here)

Resort wear makes me think of lounging by the pool in a glamorous get-up, soaking up some sun and sipping a cocktail under an oversized hat. If you’re lucky enough to be going on a vacation, then this might be you! If not, you can still add some glam resort style to your every day wardrobe. One of the most fun parts of fashion is getting to dress up in different styles- you don’t need to let just one define you!

Keep it simple: Resort style is glam, but understated.

It’s in the detail: To keep your outfit interesting, focus on 1-2 details. For example, in my outfit above, my otherwise simple top has criss cross on the back, and I finished it off with bright earrings for a pop of colour.

Focus on black, white and navy: Keep it classic with B&W, but add a touch of nautical with navy.

Be comfortable: Resort is effortless- don’t restrict yourself with tight dresses, fiddly zips, or stilettos. Think loose, flowing, cool clothing, and easy slides and wedges.

See my picks below for more resort inspiration!
