Welcome back to the 2019-2020 Homeschool Curriculum Expo! Today’s featured publisher is Rosetta Stone!
If you’re here, then you probably already know how much learning a new language can benefit your child. But not all language-learning tools are created equal. Here are seven reasons that Rosetta Stone Homeschool is a cut above the rest.
They can do it by themselves.
You have a lot on your plate. So an extra hour here or there? It makes a big difference. That’s part of why parents love how students can learn completely on their own.
TruAccent, our patented speech recognition technology, will coach them through their pronunciation in real-time. Since you don’t have to know the language your child is learning, they’ll also have the chance to teach you something at the dinner table, which any parent knows can be a major plus.
You can easily check up on their success.
Enhanced reporting and monitoring tools offer peace of mind that your child is staying on track. You’ll have access to printable reports and lesson progress data that are easy to read and were custom-built for homeschool parents.
It’s a curriculum you can trust.
Rosetta Stone has been trusted for over 26 years by top organizations, ranging from NASA to the Academy for International Education. And with good reason. Rosetta Stone uses professional linguists to build the curriculum, not crowdsourcing like some free apps out there.
They’ll learn grammar and vocab through immersion… not memorization.
Whenever your student opens Rosetta Stone Homeschool, they will be fully immersed in the language. No flashcards. No conjunction charts. Instead, they’ll learn in a similar fashion as their first language. Not only will this help them feel more confident when speaking, reading, writing or listening, but it will also set them up to continue learning the language in a natural way for the rest of their lives.
Does your child prefer to learn on a tablet curled up in a beanbag chair in the morning, then switch to a desktop in the afternoon? Rosetta Stone Homeschool works across devices and syncs progress along the way. Even if they exit out mid-lesson on their laptop to switch to their smartphone, they’ll be able to pick up right where they left off.
They can take it with them anywhere.
One of the advantages of homeschooling is that your kids can learn anywhere. And since every lesson on Rosetta Stone Homeschool is downloadable, their language lessons can go anywhere, too.
You can turn Taco Tuesday into a review session.
While you absolutely do not have to know the language your child is learning, nothing says you can’t participate in the fun around learning a new language.
Themed dinners, field trips, and books or cartoons related to the new language are great ways to motivate your child to keep learning, improve his or her skills, and bring playfulness into the learning process. And as we mentioned earlier, Rosetta Stone’s Dynamic Immersion® methods helps students learn even after they’ve stepped away from the screen.

Welcome to the final full week of the 2019-2020 Homeschool Curriculum Expo! Today’s featured publisher is CalcuLadder! Check out a special message and an awesome giveaway from them….
My dad, Dr. Edwin Myers, is a rocket scientist. In the 1970’s, he designed the optics of the Infrared Interferometric Spectrometer for NASA’s Voyager I and II space probes, and was featured in Who’s Who in Technology Today.
My parents started homeschooling in 1980 – back before most people had even heard of homeschooling! Homeschooling wasn’t easy. There were few educational materials available to homeschoolers at the time.
One day when my dad came home from work, he decided to test my brother Matthew’s ability in math.
Dad shares, “I still remember when I found out that our 7-year-old son—who was finishing up second grade—couldn’t add:
‘Say, Matthew, what’s 7 + 4 ?’
‘Uh, 7 + 4 ?’ Matt replied. ‘Let’s see. . . 7, (his fingers went under the table as he whispered slowly) 8, 9, 10, 11…11!’
Each problem I asked went that way. He understood the concept, and could use a concrete procedure (counting fingers) to get the answer (most of the time!) after 7 or 8 laborious seconds.
‘Two years with workbooks haven’t given Matthew the level of skill he needs,’ I thought. ‘He’ll really get bogged down in multi-digit multiplication and long division, where he’s got to use addition and subtraction routinely on his way to getting the answer. If he learns to multiply and divide no better than he adds and subtracts, then fractions will be a disaster!’”
Dad knew that math drills would be the solution for Matthew. He researched everywhere, but couldn’t find any math suitable drills in print. So, he decided to fill an educational need by creating the CalcuLadders—quick, potent drills to bridge the gap between just “knowing about” and doing well.
For several arduous months, Dad came home each evening from his full-time job as a geophysicist and spent hours into the night developing the CalcuLadders. Mom, who has her B.A. in Art, spent many long hours illustrating them. They created six CalcuLadder books, covering addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, decimals, fractions, English and Metric units, Roman numerals, percents, geometric concepts, and more! They also created ReadyWriter® Penmanship, AlphaBetter®, and SanctiFinder® – a series known as The Learning Vitamins®!
Today, 35 years later, CalcuLadder has won over 30 math awards! CalcuLadder, ReadyWriter, and AlphaBetter have been used by a MILLION students in over 60 countries around the globe. Thousands of customers have written to let us know how much they LOVE CalcuLadders!
Our drills are available in TWO easy-to-use formats:
Printed, hard-copy drills, accompanied by the SuperSlate™!
CalcuPak™ apps so you can download and print out the drills
Our home business provided high school jobs for us children with data entry, shipping, and accounting. We strive to honor Jesus and serve our customers well. With the Lord’s blessing, we look forward to serving the homeschool community for years to come!
So…what happened to my brother, Matthew, who had to count on his fingers to add? Well, today, Matthew is a high-ranking military officer who uses mathematics every day to design buildings, roads, and bridges. He has won numerous medals and awards throughout many years of military service! – none of this would have been possible without CalcuLadder!
“My granddaughter loves doing your drills! CalcuLadder is the most comprehensive and effective drill program I’ve found.”
– Mary, Washington
“I used CalcuLadder with all my six children. These were the best part of their school day! They are my favorite! They were my kids’ favorite! They looked forward to doing the CalcuLadders every day!”
By getting your free Sample Pak, we will automatically enter you in a DRAWING TO WIN the CalcuPak 1 and 2 Home Edition software applications – $57.90 value, OR your choice of the MasterPak 1 or 2 – $51.95 value! CalcuPak and MasterPak 1 include CalcuLadders 1, 2, 3, and ReadyWriter. CalcuPak and MasterPak 2 include CalcuLadders 4, 5, 6, and AlphaBetter.
Although none of us has a crystal ball we can look into to foresee the future for our children, we do know that the world has changed a lot since we went to college and entered the workplace.
Today’s college students will need to know how to
operate in online classrooms (everything from sticking to deadlines to knowing how to submit online assignments)
create slideshows, videos, and digital graphics
do research online and cite it correctly
work in teams online
But some things will not change. Today’s college students will still need to
be able to think critically
express themselves clearly both in written assignments and verbally
form opinions and support what they believe
FundaFunda Academy aims to address all these aspects. Not only do we provide classes that teach students digital literacy and how to code, but we also try to incorporate technology they will encounter at college and in the workplace into our classes.
At the same time, we encourage our students to delve deeply into whatever they are studying and apply it to real life.
We want our students to achieve mastery, so we allow them to resubmit assignments if they have done poorly. And we want them to learn discipline so we expect them to meet deadlines as they will have to at college and in their jobs. (We do give extensions for students who travel, are ill or have family emergencies, of course!)
FundaFunda classes rarely use textbooks and even when we do, we don’t rely heavily on them. The internet has such a wealth of resources that are more engaging, up-to-date and relevant than most textbooks.
Students will watch entertaining videos, play online games, work through interactive websites and participate in online quizzes.
A student enjoying FundaFunda’s US History class
In addition, many of our classes have no tests as we know that testing doesn’t always show how much a student really comprehends. We give grades for the assignments and projects submitted throughout the semester and these show how well students master a subject.
Student projects will range from written reports to creating digital posters, videos, slideshows, comic strips etc.
FundaFunda’s classes are not live (although Spanish does have one hour a week live conversation at a time that works for each student) so they are easy to fit into any schedule.
Teachers and teaching assistants are available to give help when needed. We are even prepared to do video chats if needed!
If your children are younger and not ready for full-length classes yet, take a look at FundaFunda Academy’s web-based unit studies. These are just 4 modules each and are self-paced with no grading BUT there are prizes for the best projects each semester. They are appropriate for grades 4 and up and can be used by the whole family at no extra cost.
Each unit study explores a different topic using online resources. There are some “offline” projects like creating origami or baking food from a specific country, but the majority of learning is done online.
Giveaway: Online Intro to Theatre CLass
FundaFunda’s Intro to Theatre class is for students from 7th – 12th grade. It introduces teens to all aspects of theatre: acting, props, costumes, history of theatre, script writing, stage makeup, stage managing and more. For high school students, this is worth a 1/2 credit and can be an arts or general elective. Students can choose to take this class in the fall, spring or summer.
To enter to win, simply use the Rafflecopter form below. All entries will be verified. The giveaway period will close on 7/11/19 at 11:59pm EST and the winner will be announced the following day. Good luck! a Rafflecopter giveaway
Today’s featured publisher in the 2019-2020 Homeschool Curriculum Expo is Carole P Roman and she is going to help you build your homeschool library by giving away a 10-book set! Check it out…
If you don’t already know who she is let me introduce you to Carole P. Roman….She is the award-winning author of over 50 children’s books (wow!), she is the host of 3 blog radio programs, she writes adult fiction under a pen name and is the co-author of 2 self-help books. On a personal note, she lives on Long Island near her family.
Now let me introduce you to her wonderful writing…
I love using books in our homeschool that grab the kids attention but also have some educational benefit, be that learning some facts about the food in Ancient Italy or a simple lesson in dealing with emotions and Carole’s books do just that!
You may know her best for her line of “If You Were Me And Lived in…” books that take kids on a different and exciting adventure with the opening of each cover. From ancient civilizations to world cultures her books give kids a peek into what life is like outside of their small world. See what it was like in ancient China or step onto Mars through the pages of her beautifully illustrated books. Or your child may want to experience the culture of Brazil or France to find out about what foods they eat, popular tourist attractions, and more.
Sweet Susannah is overwhelmed and like many of us she tries to stuff away her problems, but how long can that last? This book is great to read aloud or independent reading and ideal for discussions on dealing with issues and feelings. In the second book, she realizes everyone has fears and through reading how she deals with them, kids can learn how to confront and deal with their own fears.
Bedtime Story Books -So far she has 4 bright and fun bedtime story books to choose from that help make the transition to bedtime soothing but engaging to children with a little life lesson woven in.
I want to do Yoga Too, Frustrated that she can’t go to yoga class with mom, Hallie figures out she too can do Yoga.
Rocket-Bye is a gentle trip to the stars and planets written in verse to create a relaxing bedtime atmosphere.
Mindfulness for Kids with 30 activities to help kids stay in control, calm, and happy. It teaches them what mindfulness is s, how to identify what emotions they are feeling, and how to make mindfulness a natural part of your day by creating fictitious situations and then giving children a method for dealing with the situation.
Captain No Beard -This series follows Captain No Beard and his crew as they sail off into some situations that require some problem-solving. Life lessons are woven beautifully throughout these simple stories.
Bulwark and The Knowing are adult fiction books written under her pen name Brit Lunden and have a paranormal theme for parents who like a little thrill with their reading.
One lucky family will win a set of 10 “If You Were Me and Lived In…” books- 5 from the culture series and 5 from the historical series!! All 10 books will be signed copies! Math is one of the most important components of homeschool curriculum, this is why it’s so important to choose something that is a great fit. We have all struggled with finding something that engages the kids and also covers all the important math lesson they need to learn. Teaching Textbooks 3.0 is an online math program that is great for homeschooling students and parents. It is one of our personal favorite homeschool math programs and one that we have used for years. You can see my own review of the program here.
I have found that there is much less fighting and resistance to math using Teaching Textbooks. It is bright and colorful and allows the student to choose their own background and buddy, making it personalized for each student and gives them some ownership over their program. You want to raise independent learners that are able to self start and learn on their own right? Teaching Textbooks is perfect for that, but if your child needs a little more help than the lectures and sample problems offer you can also access the textbooks to give them a little extra help.
What Makes Teaching Textbooks such a great choice?
Courses are offered in: Math 3-7, Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, and Pre-Calculus to cover all the ages in your family.
The price averages out to only $4-$6 per month
It works on Mac, Windows, Chromebook, tablets, and smartphones (via the Puffin browser) which means it can be done at home in the schoolroom, on the couch, in the backyard on the swing, in the car on the way to soccer practice, waiting for the doctor, or anywhere else!
Includes instructions, practice problems, tests, and gradings.
Grades are stored permanently, no worry about losing them and they are easy to print out to use as part of your portfolio.
Parental control- turn off hints and second chances, delete wrong answers so your child can attempt again.
Your one-year subscription comes the ability to pause for 3 months, illnesses, vacation, summer break, and holidays can be enjoyed without worrying about completing everything in time.
The large family discount for families of 4-8 offers a substantial discount over individual subscriptions. The program price is maxed out at $199.08
The trial program is one of the best I have ever seen and allows you time to see if the program is the right fit for you and also better gauge the level your child needs. Rather than 1 lesson or a week trial you are able to try out 15 lessons for as many of the levels as you like for an unlimited time. Click here to begin your free trial!
Not sure which grade level your child needs? Take the placement test and find out exactly where your child needs to be.
One lucky family will win a one year subscription to Teaching Textbooks 3.0 in the level of their choice! To enter, simply use the Rafflecopter form below. All entries will be verified. The giveaway period will close on 7/4/19 at 11:59pm EST and the winner will be announced the following day. Good luck!
