Valid
Guitarist Shohei Toyoda to Play at The Depot on July 18th

We are super excited to share news about an evening of great music coming up. Shohei Toyoda from Kyoto, Japan will be making a stop in Tryon on his 2019 US tour. On his previous stops in past years we’ve packed house concerts. On July 18th Shohei will be performing a special concert at The Depot in Tryon. We hope you will join us!

Shohei is a graduate of the Berklee School of Music and as a world-touring musician he has won many prestigious awards. These include First Prize and Best Arrangement Award at Japan’s National Finger-Picking Guitar Contest and The Grand Champion of the “Home of the Legends” International Thumb-Picking Contest in Mulenburg, Kentucky. You will understand just why he has won numerous awards when you hear his playing!

An extra bonus for the night – Jay will be joining Shohei for a few tunes as well!

Here are the details for the upcoming show –

We’ll start off with a  big thanks that goes out to Parsec Financial for providing the lovely venue – The Depot Room – for our event. Contributing to our community is what they are all about!

Place: The Tryon Depot

22 Depot St
Tryon, North Carolina 28782

Date and Time: July 18th, 2018 at 7:30. Door open at 7PM.

Ticket Price: Generous Contributions at the Door. (Tickets typically run $20+ for his shows so we hope we top that as a warm Tryon welcome.)

Please R.S.V.P to have us save you a seat. Seating is limited.

Refreshments are BYOB or Drink. We’ll have some wine and water available too.

Handcrafted Custom Electric Fiddle Joins the Lichty Instrument Line-up

He’s at it again! First there was a little ukulele. Then there were tons of variations in uke sizes and scale lengths and cool features like side sound ports. Then on to guitars – small ones like the Parlor and the Bard and the Traveler, Single Oughts and Double Oughts and OM’s and Dreadnoughts and the Alchemist. Oh, of course then there are the archtops like Django, the archtop Parlor and the full size guitar. (In that whole mix there have been countless wildly modified custom instruments that our customers have requested.) After ukes and guitars Jay followed his fascination with fiddles – there’s the five string, the all Port Orford Cedar model, the viola … ok, you get the idea.

So what’s next? In response to playing lots of fiddle these days Jay has created his original design of an electric fiddle! To say it is stunning is an understatement!

Features: Original body design; Torrified Sitka top; Claro Walnut back; Ebony fretboard and tailpiece; LR Baggs pick-up

We are so excited to share info about the inaugural Mountain Acoustics Luthier Invitational that happened Memorial Day weekend. The first year for any big event can be dicey but organizers Chee and Sherry Ammen knocked it outta the park and then some!

The setting … the beautiful and welcoming mountain town of Burnsville, NC.

Several dozen luthiers from the southeast were invited to be a part of this event based on the quality of their craftsmanship. Handcrafted instruments on exhibit included harps, violas, banjos, dulcimers, ukuleles, guitars, fiddles and more. Learn more about all of the participating luthiers.

In addition to the two day instrument show festivities included a luthier jam Friday night (several hundred folks came by and enjoyed the entertainment), workshops on Saturday on topics from instruction on inlay to introduction to ukulele, a killer concert by guitar master Kaki King at the historic Parkway Playhouse and the first public exhibit of The Six Tenors (a Luthiers for a Cause and Ukulele Kids Club project).

Two special awards were custom designed and crafted by Mark Woodham of MW Studios. These were awarded to …

  • The People’s Choice Award – Peter Robson of Robson Acoustic Guitars
  • Host Luthier – Jay Lichty of Lichty Guitars
  • Mark your calendars because, based on this wildly successful first-time event, plans are already underway for next year’s event happening Memorial Day weekend.
