This week I had the pleasure of helping Ashlyn celebrate her first birthday with a Cinderella theme cake smash.
Ashlyn and her family are regulars in the studio with this being their sixth session with me. I just love when families come back as I get to see how the little babies I photographed grow into beautiful little people full of character.
Certainly Ashlyn and her big sister Evelyn are both full of character and are both very different. Evelyn loves to pose for the camera whereas Ashlyn isn’t so keen. However when the cake came out she forgot all about the camera and got stuck right in! A girl after my own heart.
I recommend booking your cake smash approx 6 months in advance to ensure that both myself and my cake maker are available for your chosen date. You can find out more about my cake smash sessions here.
This week I got to celebrate Isabella’s first birthday with her at her vintage tea party themed cake smash.
Isabella’s mum had asked for a very girly theme with lots of pink for her little princess. Isabella also brought along her big sister who was very happy to get in a few photos with Isabella. Sibling photos are always lovely to have not only for the parents and grandparents, but in years to come for the siblings to look back on themselves.
Isabella wasn’t overly fussed about the portrait photos but once the cake came out she got stuck right in! She was definitely making the most of being allowed to eat as much sugar as she wanted, as she stuffed handfuls of buttercream frosting and candy chocolate casing in! A girl after my own heart.

This week I had the privilege of helping Baby C celebrate his first birthday.
When he arrived he was a little uncertain of what was going on but with the love & support of his Daddies he had a fun time & we were able to capture some lovely moments. I particularly liked all of his amazing gurning faces that he pulled. LOL!
Baby C had my dinosaur themed cake smash with a roarsome dinosaur giant cupcake from Sweet Creation Ltd. I think his Daddies were secretly pretty pleased that he didn’t smash the entire cake up as they got to take the leftovers home with them.

So anyone who knows me knows that I am a MASSIVE Harry Potter fan!
I first fell in love with Harry Potter when I was working in the libraries and I couldn’t understand why there was such a long waiting list to borrow this book called Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. Curiosity got the better of me and I just had to pick up a copy … and then didn’t put it down until it was finished! This carried on with me attending every midnight opening to buy each new book, and getting into midnight (staff only – thanks to my partner) viewings of the movies.
I’ve been wanting to do a Harry Potter inspired photoshoot for a long time, so when I came across this AMAZING backdrop I just had to get it. The backdrop is a photo of the Cloisters at Lacock Abbey where some of the Hogwarts scenes were filmed.
Of course that’s not to say that my gorgeous little boy was as ‘in to’ the idea as I was. In typical ‘photographer’s child syndrome’ way we had to do this over two weekends as on the first attempt he decided that the cloak was torture. LOL! We got there in the end, and with my digital backdrop inspired by the Hogwarts Express it was just perfect.
This week I had the pleasure of meeting quite possibly the most laid-back newborn baby I have ever met.
Little Taylor came to see me at just 10 days new and was so incredibly chilled and sleepy that we were completely done within 2.5hrs! He really wasn’t at all bothered by being handled and posed, and only got upset twice – once when he was hungry and then at the end of the session when he decided he’d had enough.
Being so relaxed I was able to get one of my favourite props out – my beautiful wooden bowl from Baby Props by Sally. Once it was lined with some wonderfully soft (and ethically sourced) fur from English Rabbit Fur it was just perfect for Taylor to snuggle down into. As you can see below in his sneak peek he was very happy and comfortable. (NB please note that for safety Mummy was sat right next to the bowl at all times.)

They say that no two babies are ever the same and this weekend that was definitely true!
The last time I met this family was when they had had their first baby – Teddy, who is still the fastest newborn session I have ever done in under 2hrs. You can see his sneak peek here.
So his new baby brother Frankie had a lot to live up too! Well Frankie certainly made me work very hard for my photos as he was quite a light sleeper and wasn’t going to let me get away with anything! But how could I be upset or angry with him when he was so cute.
It was absolutely lovely to see just how much Teddy adores his baby brother as you can see in his sneak peek here.
It is always lovely when babies come back to see me after their newborn photoshoot and even more so when it is a family I have worked with before. This particular family are very special to me as they helped start my journey into newborn photography some 7yrs ago when I photographed their first daughter Harriet – my second ever newborn photoshoot! So when they told me last year they were expecting baby number two I was delighted.
I cannot believe that it has been a year already since I photographed Georgia at just 8 days new – you can see her sneak peek here. At the time it was like looking at a mirror image of her big sister as a newborn, but now that Georgia is a year old she is very different. She is also very different when it comes to cake smash! Harriet as a baby was not at all keen on having sticky hands but this was not a problem for Georgia. In fact the only problem was getting her to stop eating the cake!
As you can see in her sneak peek she thoroughly enjoyed her photoshoot.
I recommend booking cake smash sessions at least 4mths in advance to make sure that both my cake maker and I are available. You can find out more about my cake smash sessions here.
Babies change so much in their first year of life and the culmination of that first year is their first birthday. What better way to mark that milestone than with a photoshoot to capture how much they’ve grown but how small they still are!
A lot of people like to book a Cake Smash for little one’s first birthday but if that isn’t your thing, or if little one has allergies, my First Birthday Minis are the perfect solution.
Raffi came to see me this weekend to celebrate turning one recently. Of course he decided that today was the day to have a long deep morning nap and arrived fast asleep! So we gave him plenty of time to wake up and get used to the studio before we started, and he was soon enjoying playing with the toys and balloons – although he was happiest when he could stand up holding on to something as you can see in his sneak peek.
First Birthday Minis are £149 for a 30mins session plus 10 digital images of your choice.
So rounding off my crazy January full of cake smash is the adorable Arthur.
I first met Arthur back in February last year when he was just 8 days old – you can see his newborn photo here. He was the perfect little model for his newborn photos and was equally a little star when he came to see me at 7mths for his sitter session which you can see here.
It was no surprise therefore that Arthur did amazingly well for his cake smash. His Mummy and Daddy were a bit worried about how it would go as poor Arthur had a terrible cold but he pulled it out of the bag for the photoshoot! I expect the sugar in the cake frosting helped!
I highly recommend booking your cake smash at least 4mths in advance as my preferred cake maker gets booked up very quickly. You can find out more about my cake smash sessions here.
So normally for me January is fairly quiet with the post Christmas slump but this year it has gone crazy for Cake Smash and I have one a week booked throughout the month!
This week it was Amelia’s turn who celebrated her first birthday on Wednesday – the day after mine! Her Mummy wanted my beautiful vintage tea party theme which is just perfect for little girls and can easily be themed to whatever colour scheme you like.
Amelia wasn’t too sure to begin with – and who can blame her coming into a strange house with some crazy lady with camera! However as soon as the cake came out she got stuck right in and the only problem we had was stopping her eating the cake at the end! Definitely a girl after my own heart!
I always recommend booking Cake Smashes at least 4mths in advance to ensure my fabulous cake makers are available as they get booked up pretty quickly.
