Valid

December is here and it only feels like yesterday that I was writing my ode to 2017 post, but this year has felt like a long one. Just me?

It’s been a year of ups and downs (I wrote about that here) and I’m back to doing what I love best – bringing you guys my favourite things of the minute. And what’s more; it’s in the form of a Christmas gift guide. So if you’re still looking for that perfect gift for the man in your life – or even yourself – then you’ve come to the right place.

So let’s crack-er on (get it?)

First things first, it wouldn’t be Christmas without beer and what better than a subscription delivered straight to your door every month? I don’t even know if I need to say anymore if I’m honest. A beer delivery for ~£25? OKAY. Maybe have one every day in between Christmas and new year and you’re sorted. Follow this link to get your first box for free.

Next up, are my new favourite things. BN3TH* create underwear for men that is designed to be flexible, comfortable and breathable. Something that I think a lot of us men have trouble coping with (even if you don’t admit it) is finding the right things to wear downstairs. They are engineered to provide the very best in comfort, whilst also holding everything in the right place. A real favourite.

A winner in the Winter months is a travel mug*. This one from Fatface is a great gift. It provides the convenience if you’re running late or even if you’re environmentally conscious (just like me) and can save using all of those single-use disposal cups.

There’s also a comfort of enjoying a hot cup of coffee in the haven of your own bed. Those times when you don’t want to have to escape the warmth of the duvet for too long are finally answered. Fill up and run back. Sorted. This is actually part of gift set with the socks…

No gift guide would be complete without a pair of socks*. I, for one, actually love receiving a good pair of socks because it’s one of those things you never think of buying for yourself. These cosies are perfect for Christmas morning when you’ve got your full Xmas-day outfit on.

That completes my list of stocking fillers for your fella (or you) this Christmas. What do you think of my choices? Is there anything that desperately needs to be added?

Oh, hi – remember me?
Yeah, I do still exist. And I’m just whittling away in the background because life has got pretty hectic at the minute.

I’m not gonna lie, this post actually has no purpose. It’s just more of a life update and a little check in on what’s going on at the minute. So sit back, grab a cuppa, relax and enjoy the boring story of, what I like to call, “My life”!

There comes a time when you just need to have a break. Regardless of whether it’s from something that you love or not, it’s healthy to take a step back and actually breathe for a minute. Or about 4 months in my case…

And I’m sorry. I know that I shouldn’t have to apologise, but I feel like I have to. This blog is such a massive part of my life that any time away was strange. There was always this thought in the back of my head saying, “keep going, you love it so much!” and it’s completely right. But there was this tiny thing called ‘life’ (have you heard of it?) that just got going.

It seems that all your life, you work towards that dream goal and getting there is the only priority. But life manages to throw those little obstacles, almost as a test to determine whether you can handle the pressure. At the beginning of the year (it feels longer than that now), my whole world came crashing down as I was told I was being made redundant from my job. And I thought that was the end. All I could think was that I would have to settle into another dead-end job that would take me nowhere.

But I threw that mindset behind and was determined to make it better. I knew what I wanted to do and I just made sure that I focused all of my energy on making it happen. I had a degree, I had this blog and I knew that I could help me secure my perfect role. And boy did that happen.

Less than two weeks after leaving my job, I had secured another role. Which was (and is still) perfect. I couldn’t have asked for anything better. And it just seemed that the stars aligned and the universe was looking down on me. I believe that fate is on my side; read more about what I think of that here.

I am grateful for everything that has happened in the past couple of months regarding my job and that was down to being brave. I’m usually very sceptical and like to play safe, but I knew this was my opportunity. And it certainly paid off.

Everything that happened afterwards has come from getting that job. I was able to see my friends more. I was finally able to commit to events that I previously couldn’t have done because: “Oh, I’ve got work at 6am!” ugh

Gone are the days of me spending my days alone because I was too tired, and hello to living for the weekend. Granted, I still enjoy monging out with Netflix on but I’m much happier doing that now. I am able to fulfill more and, it sounds dramatic, that’s all because of getting a new job.

It opened up a whole new aspect of living for me. So, thank you world. For believing in me.

If you’re still here, thanks for bearing with. That was pretty boring but I needed an update. I’m finally able to find a work-life balance, so my blog won’t suffer anymore. Thank you too. For believing in me. Watch this space!

This is a public service announcement to remind you that you should be obsessed with yourself.

You are allowed to be in love with yourself, what you do and how you put yourself together. It’s healthy to be obsessed with your own demeanour. Focus on your own self and the rest will follow.

Once you’re happy with everything in your life, everything else will fall into place.

I’ve recently started focusing on myself and creating my own life before welcoming someone else into my world. I’ve made my plans for this year that are all about making myself happy and creating a life that I love. As normal human beings, we are always on the look out for attention, craving someone to hold us at night and make us happy. For sure, it definitely does help but it’s not always the way to happiness.

Happiness is about being completely content. And breaking news, you can, and are allowed to, make your own happiness.

Simply become obsessed with yourself and love everything little thing that you do!

Even the smallest achievements should be celebrated. Something as simple as getting up before 7AM in the morning on a weekend and making the most of it is an achievement. If you want to get ahead, then the best thing to do is grab life by the balls and run with it.

Make a list of all of the things in your life that make you who you are, make you happy and even the plans for your future (whether it be the next hour, day, month or year!) Simply discovering what it is that makes you tick is vital to finding out what will better yourself. Spend time doing the things that you love, whilst working on the bad stuff at the same time (but don’t sweat that too much!)

Shirt: H&M £9.99

Boast about the things you do on social media. Become your own mascot and cheer on your own success. People might find it annoying, but it will really remind you who your real friends are because they will be right beside you like your own personal cheerleader – go you!

Alternatively, turn off your phone for the day! If if you don’t like to admit it, we have become too obsessed with likes and retweets that we seem to forget that they actually don’t make the world go around (I know right, who knew?!) Spend the time reading instead, or go out exploring and find new places. Do some writing – document your day in a diary to go back to every time you lose grip of what you’re doing it all for. Keeping a diary can keep you on track, whilst remembering everything that you did; you can even begin to associate your emotions with how you felt at a specific time which can be uplifting if you ever have a bad day.

Champion yourself. Everything you do, do it with passion. Do it with pride. Shove it down everyone else’s throat.

Focus your time on celebrating the things in your life. Create your happy place. Live your dreams. And most importantly, become obsessed with yourself.

p.s. you’re great.
