Despite the fact that it’s 2017, many women still face unique challenges in the workplace that can lead to stress and even a hit to their self-confidence. It’s time to delve into those challenges and find ways to overcome them, both for the women themselves and for their male peers. One of the questions that are being asked more and more is, “Why aren’t there more women in business?” Take a look at this chart for an idea of just how low the numbers are when it comes to female board members.
“While the numbers are growing, there are still too few female investors and startup entrepreneurs, which can make it more challenging to raise capital and find mentors. Network and you will discover that there are plenty of women and men who are eager to advocate for and mentor female entrepreneurs,” says Megan Smyth, CEO and co-founder of FitReserve, a health and wellness company for women.
One of the biggest challenges women face is how they are perceived by their peers and employees. Too lenient, and everyone will think you’re a pushover; too aggressive, and you are labeled as “harsh” or “disagreeable”. It’s difficult to find your footing sometimes, which can throw off your confidence. The best way to overcome this issue is to simply be yourself. Don’t let the expectations of others define your management style, and don’t allow your confidence to shrivel up over what other people think. You must do what is right for you and for your company; at the end of the day, no one can make it work but you.
It’s also important to take ownership of your decisions and accomplishments. Many women feel that talking about their own successes comes across as being boastful, and they’re also afraid that letting people know that the business belongs to a woman will make it seem less important. Let go of that fear and own the good stuff. You’ve been through a lot to make it this far and you deserve to take credit for everything that’s gone right.
Many women in business say that the rise to a position of power is a cruel, difficult one, especially if they are surrounded by males who have more years of experience. It can be hard to convince some people that you truly rose to the top on merit alone, so don’t even try. Let your work speak for itself and don’t listen to those voices that try to knock you down a peg.
Balancing a career with a family is one of the biggest issues women face today, yet it’s rarely a problem for men. Women are expected to be involved in their children’s lives as much as possible, maintain a home, and run their careers flawlessly, but the same expectations don’t always apply to men. One way to overcome this is to create a workspace that values the roles men play in their family lives, meaning they will receive paid time off for maternity leave just as a woman would. As for juggling all those responsibilities? Don’t feel guilty if you can’t make every soccer game or school play. You can make sure your child knows you’re taking an active interest in their life by getting organized so that you can stay on top of things like homework and extracurricular activities, and carve time out of your schedule for family time that doesn’t include answering emails or looking at your phone.
Women, it seems, still have a long road ahead of them in order to be treated as equals in the workplace, but it’s getting better. Knowing how to face these obstacles–and any others that may pop up–with courage and dignity will help you get through them unscathed.

Whoa!!!! Coworking industry is growing exponentially every year. As the industry is expanding, so are the different terminologies for addressing a Coworking Space. There are funny facts and funny names, so we decided to check out the trend of names used by the experienced and new spaces.Coworking,Co-working,Cowrking,Kowrking,Koworking. We stopped at it as this is just getting so confusing man! It’s like noodles, the more you try to separate it, the more it entangles but in the end, it provides an interesting meal.
The reason that there are so many variations used is that there is a dearth of names and domain for the newbies or is that newbees (Oooh!!!) who are joining the industry. Coworking is a growing trend and as we at Kowrk call it the future of work (that’s our trademark, mind you!!), the future is a coworking space.
Call or spell it anyway, coworking space provides a professional environment where startup economies flourish. Startups usually have less or no money to spend on a proper office of their own. They also don’t have time to run an office on day to day basis (Did the cleaner come today?) Here’s where the shared work spaces help. The infrastructure and other working requirements are catered to by the spaces. It’s just a nominal rent that one needs to get into the space.
With this growth and the competition to sustain in the industry, newbies are struggling to name their spaces. And hence we are seeing some real innovation here. This is similar to the names used to depict Fashion – Fashon, Fashn, Fshon…OO LA LA!! Did we miss an “ I “ then let’s have the name as Fshion too.
Yes, we also innovated when we coined the term Kowrk and Kowrking around 3 years back. It’s great to see many others getting inspired by us.
Till the next funny fact from Team Kowrk, Happy Kowrking!! Or should we say Happy Coworking, Co-working, Cowrking, Kowrking, Koworking!!!

Coworking spaces provide a professional work environment along with plenty of facilities. But for most of the users, cost is one of the major factor in selecting a space. Various coworking spaces have a variety of membership plans according to what facilities they have to offer and their users’ needs. When deciding the price package many things go into consideration such as the current price trends, competitiveness in the market and the needs of the members to name a few.
If you are a coworking space thinking to increase membership price but not sure the best way to go about it then worry not, Team Kowrk is here to help. Below are 4 things to be taken into consideration before doing so-
Avoid increasing prices very often:
Increasing profits is essential for coworking spaces but it has to be done strategically. It has been observed that many coworking spaces increase the prices of their membership plans once they are opened for at least 2 years and later with a gap of 3-4 years. One of the aspects of coworking spaces that attracts its users is the affordability and stability. Increasing prices very often might lead to a gradual loss of members.
Do it first for the new members:
Founding members are the primary experienced users who get any coworking space more members. Therefore, once you have decided to increase the prices of your membership plans, apply them to the new members. This will show you how your users are reacting to the price change without affecting your existing members.
In any business, transparency between the customers and service providers is utmost and goes a long way. When deciding on making changes in the pricing model of your membership plans, reasons for doing so should be given to the members so they have an idea of why you chose to increase the prices. This increases cooperation among you and the members. Also, it is advisable to inform your current members in advance about the changes.
Offer additional perks:
With the increasing rates in the plans, you can offer your members additional perks with it. This can include recreational furniture like recliners or hammocks, discounted gym membership, networking workshops, additional quiet zones etc. So when you increase your prices and offer a few additional perks, the users get assured that it is beneficial for them too.
Redefining the pricing model to keep up with the market is essential for any business. Do it in a smarter way without burning a hole in your users and your pocket and making it a win-win situation for both. So think of the above mentioned areas and you will be able to keep up with the competition in the market and also your users happy!

The emergence of coworking spaces in virtually every corner of the world has made it easy for freelancers, digital nomads, entrepreneurs and all other new age professionals to work without permanent offices. These individuals can now make use of different coworking spaces without any hindrance, though they have to pay for the day passes which can be a bit heavy on their pockets. There are also those professionals who look for an informal yet productive space and hence search for alternatives to coworking spaces.
As this trend is growing, cafe’s have started seeing regular users working for long hours. Some Cafés welcome users to occupy their premises for an extended time period and use the internet with just one coffee; while others have started encouraging such users to spend more. In all scenarios, café owners lose – either revenue per seat or customer’s goodwill.
Coworking cafes are coming up as an option to cater to needs of specific user segment. These cafes provide a fun yet productive environment to those who are looking for a relaxed work or meeting space with positive café vibes, open and relaxed layout and aroma of food and coffee to enhance productivity. The economical packages for day/week/monthly usages that can be redeemed for food and beverages don’t pinch the pocket. These cafes are great places to network with other regular users who clearly have similar working style.`
Many cafes find it lucrative to offer coworking options to it’s clientele comprising young customers. Daily/weekly/monthly membership that is applicable during off-peak hours, and is fully or partially reimbursable on food & beverage at the café, works well for both users & cafes. Other benefits for the cafes include:
Increased revenue: For cafes offering their space as a coworking space translates into assured revenue. People using cafes for coworking tend to spend lesser money than average users though they use the space for longer hours. Buy offering coworking packages, café owners get assured and increased revenue. During their peak hours, they function as a regular café and during their lax hours, they let their premises be used by freelancers and startups as a workspace. Thereby increasing overall average revenue per seat.
Repeat business: because of the membership, the user tends to visit the same café. This works great for café’s as they look for guaranteed business, Familiarity with space, people and amenities is good for the productivity of the users too.
More publicity: If people enjoy coworking they attract other coworkers at café. Café’s that offer fully reimbursable coworking packages tend to gather more positive reviews.
Offering coworking at a café is not very difficult. Owners need to ensure that wifi is consistent and strong, music volume is moderate and users have charging points to keep their devices going. Some cafes corner off specific areas for their coworking users or use office ergonomics while designing their cafes. To decide the best packages, café owners can contact Team Kowrk who has successfully helped many cafes around the world to adopt coworking.
The growing demand and supply for coworking cafes indicate that this new age work style is here to stay. Coworking is understood to be the future of work and at Kowrk we feel it might just be the coworking cafes that will possibly make this future more interesting and fun filled.

When one thinks of ‘noise’ and its effect on people, the adage “Different strokes for different folks” comes to the mind. There are some who can actually regard a regular din as their creative muse and then again there are some who will only regard the same din as the source of their headache. Essentially, people exist at both ends of the spectrum.
The other day, while travelling I came across a rather interesting conversation between two friends (let’s call them Sameer and Anna). They were discussing their plight at their workspace. The woman was lending a sympathetic ear and the man, who seemed to be the manager at a coworking space, was animatedly talking about his troubles. He clearly belonged to the ‘noise is not my friend’ end of the spectrum. His problem was such that we felt our readers and clientele would also be able to identify with. So, at Team Kowrk, we thought of penning it down for you.
Anna: Hey Sameer! Where is your usual smile today? The frown doesn’t do much for your face!
Sameer: Hi Anna! My smile is wiped clean because of the terrible day I had at my coworking space today.
Anna: But, I thought you loved your coworking space? I know you have taken great pains and put in a lot of hard work to make it a sought after and successful place. So, what happened today?
Sameer: Yeah, I generally love the atmosphere at my space but today was crazy because some of the members wouldn’t just stop chatting. I could see some of the other members were getting disturbed by the constant chit chat taking place. At one point, I finally had to request them to maintain silence. There didn’t seem to be any other way!
Since that dilemma is experienced by many managers and users of coworking spaces, here is a list of probable solutions from Team Kowrk.
Play white noise
If one can cut out poison with poison, then why not noise with noise? White noise, also called white sound, is basically a steady unobtrusive, unvarying sound, as an electronically produced drone or maybe the sound of rain or lightning or even the sound of crickets, and it is used to cancel out unwanted sounds.
Call for a work sprint
This technique should definitely capture the attention of most coworking spaces. The idea is, when it gets too social, any member can call for a work sprint. And in that timeframe (be it half an hour or more), all members are expected to do focused work with zero socializing. It then gives everyone the chance to accomplish a goal and causes a solid half hour or more of uninterrupted work time!
Send gentle reminders of work etiquette to members
Sending reminders to members about their expected code of conduct is also an idea that can work well. In fact, a poster with the expected code of conduct can also be put at the reception. It might work as a constant, subtle and silent reminder to the members.
Designate some areas where members can go to receive and make calls on their mobile handsets. This can lead to major noise reduction in any workspace.
Involve the members
Finally, if people still face sound issues then you could possibly look to your community for solutions. Maybe, host a roundtable discussion – you might gain some interesting insight, plus your members will then own (and support) the policy changes.
According to us at Kowrk, these are viable options to the problem of dealing with noise. Let us know what you think of these suggestions.
