My name is Kelly Larkin, and this blog is where I document my life. While you’ll find a whole lot of fashion-related content on Kelly in the City, my hope is that when you visit the site, you’ll also get to know me as a person, and learn what’s truly important to me.
Mitch snapped these photos for me over the Fourth because I wanted to show you guys this dress… and then I totally forgot about ’em.
I’m really, really obsessed with it, though. Sure, it’s a modest dress. But I love the detailing on it, and that I don’t have to worry too much about the sun when I wear it. The length makes it a great mom dress, too; I’m so tired of flashing people when I bend over to pick up my kids. ;) Note: It runs small. I would suggest going up one or two sizes. I went up one and I wish I’d gone up two!
This. Took. Forever. (It might be 3 a.m. as I’m hitting publish, haha. Say a little prayer for me this morning.)
But no matter, because today’s the day! The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale opens to all cardholders at 11:30 a.m. EST/10:30 a.m. CST… and my guide to shopping the entirety of the women’s selection is LIVE! I’m really excited about it. I hope it helps you navigate the sale and enjoy it. :)
As mentioned, I’m breaking things up and focusing on the women’s section today since it’s so big. Tomorrow, though, I’ll be featuring my favorites from everything else: Men, Kids and Home. So stay tuned for that! And later today, I’ll be posting commentary/sizing info on my favorites from each section as well as a try-on session with mirror photos taken on my big camera because I recently drove away with my iPhone on the roof of my car… and haven’t had it fixed or replaced yet. So YEAH. Those pics will be good for a laugh, at least. But circle back in a few hours for all of that! (I’ll be going into way more detail about products then.)
Finally, let’s get to today’s giveaway! As a thank you for supporting our blog (and us!), we’re giving away $300 to shop the sale. To enter, all you have to do is:

Oh my goodness. I simply can’t decide which photo to frame from this post. EMMA! Stop it. You’re killin’ me! (And therefore, yes. I’m subjecting you to all 75 of them, haha!)
Okay. The big news, though, is that Dudley Stephens launched a brand new color–Cobalt Blue–today, and I’m teaming up with the brand to offer a fabulous discount to readers! Use code “KELLYINTHECITY20” to take 20 percent off your order. The code is valid through today only, so make sure that you take advantage while you can! (It’ll actually work until 2 a.m., which is technically Tuesday, July 2nd. Tryin’ to accomodate my Night Owls!)
If you haven’t shopped Dudley Stephens before, I would say that the line runs totally true to size. I typically buy my tops and sweaters in a size small, and that’s what I wear in DS, too. Emma, similarly, wears a 4T, which is what she wears in other brands. (She turns 3 in August, but she’s always be in the 90th percentile for everything!) My recommendation, if ordering kids’ clothing, is to order one size up so they can get a couple of years’ worth of wear out of it. Last year, we simply rolled up the sleeves on Emma’s DS gear, and she can still wear it now, which is awesome!
Above are some of my favorite Dudley Stephens styles that are perfect for the Fourth of July. And remember: use code “KELLYINTHECITY20” to get that discount! Happy shopping, Friends.
I LOVE the brand 1901, a Nordstrom exclusive, for all its classic pieces… and when I realized that this one had pockets, I jumped all over it. ;) It’s made of the nicest material; it has some polyester and elastane so it doesn’t wrinkle as easily as other shirt dresses do. And that bow around the waist gives me a bit more definition around the waist without accentuating the leftover baby bump too much. Very appreciated these days!
The dress runs a little on the larger side, so I would order either your normal size or one down, depending on how you like your clothing to fit. :) Hope that helps!
This is what a typical summer evening looks like for us. Or what twilight looks like for us, at least; right before the sun starts to sink below the skyscrapers in the distance… and it’s one of my favorite parts of the day. Dinner’s over, the weather is perfectly cool, and Emma revels in a few extra minutes of play before bed. Lately, she’s been obsessed with her balance bike, and so it’s a bit less relaxed than, say, sidewalk chalk. ;) Nevertheless, it’s a great time to wind down and get in some quality time together.
The point of this post, though, is to wish my husband, dad and father-in-law–as well as all the other dads out there!–a very happy Father’s Day. I have all three of the dads in my life here with me this weekend, and while I am writing this post in advance so I can be fully present, I know I’m having the best time with them!
Mitch, I wanted to write you a super long letter explaining all the reasons why you’re everything I hoped the father of my children would be. Instead, though, I hope you’ll accept my invitation to go see Vampire Weekend on Northerly Island with me tonight. (OUR PARENTS ARE BABYSITTING!)
Thanks for making every day special, fun and exciting for our little girls… and for loving them unconditionally. To me, you are perfect, and I’m continuously impressed by all that you do on four hours of sleep. ;) I love you!
