I am a fashion blogger and wardrobe stylist in the Chicagoland area. My goal is to help you get dressed easily, every day by maximizing the use of your existing wardrobe, finding clothes that fit perfectly, respecting your budget, and having fun during the process.
Palazzo pants are everywhere right now. Their relaxed style is perfect for summer but styling them so they flatter your body is not an easy task. I will give the same tips that I gave when I did an earlier post on cropped flared jeans.
Make sure that the bottom of the pants do not hit at the largest part of your leg. (Have them hit right below the knee or above the ankle.)
Wear some sort of heel or wedge to lengthen your leg.
Ensure that you show off your waist with your top being tucked in or belted.
Since these pants usually have lots of volume, balance it out with a fitted top.
Make sure whatever you do with a palazzo pant outfit that you show off your shape in some way. You don’t want to look like you are wearing a tent!
New Charm Bracelet
I received the charm bracelet that I’m wearing from my good friend Amy as a birthday present. I’m so in love with this bracelet and it gives me flashbacks to childhood when charm bracelets were all the rage. It’s a timeless piece of jewelry. I couldn’t find an exact match to mine but love this one here and here.
This floral midi dress with edge was my birthday present from the hubby. He was victorious once again in finding me the perfect gift. The best part was that I got to wear it to my birthday dinner. At least I rang in age 48 with some style!
My husband Michael found this gorgeous dress on Intermix. I have heard of Preen before but never heard of Thornton Bregazzi. Whoever he is, he gets my style. The floral print mixed in with the asymmetrical hem and ruching is the perfect combination in my opinion. If you look really close, you can see barbed wire in the print which is so cool and gives it a bad ass vibe. Yes, I can be a bad ass at 48!
Besides all the fabulous styling details, its made with stretchy fabric so it’s great for those dinners when you might produce a food baby. I can’t stand feeling constricted in dresses. The ruching also deflects from my pooch so the styling of this dress works perfectly with my body shape.
Thank you to Michael for this incredible dress and for making me feel special on my birthday weekend. He took care of making plans for dinner and inviting the people closest to me. I felt like a million bucks babe!
Need to Find the Perfect Nude Shoe
After falling in love with this dress, I needed to get the perfect shoe for it. I am wearing Jimmy Choo heels here which I purchased several years ago. The problem I noticed was that the nude patent leather faded. Not sure if that happened because they weren’t in a box or just because of age. Has this happened to you with your nude pumps?
You can barely tell that they faded in these pics so I just wore them. These heels are at the end of their life so my new mission is to find the perfect pair of nude pumps. Christian Louboutin comes to mind but do you have any recommendations?
Athleisure wear is still going strong this season and shows no signs of leaving. Joggers are in this category but I have struggled to find a pair that flatter me. I finally found the perfect pair so here’s my post on how to dress up joggers. Yay for being comfy and chic at the same time!
Of course, you can do the typical top and gym shoes with joggers but why not make them versatile and dress them up? Take them from gym to going out by adding the right top and chic accessories. I chose to go with a printed tank, denim jacket, wedges, and layered necklaces.
This printed tank really pops so adding it to these basic joggers really polishes them up. I threw my denim jacket for some warmth but if you want to go even more dressier, go with a leather jacket or blazer. I tucked the tank in just at the front so you can see my waist and the cute tie of the pants.
The wedges also make these pants less casual. They were purchased with my birthday discount at DSW and are so comfy. I got them for only $35 between my special discount and the sale they were running at the time of purchase. So obsessed with the scallop details and cool wedge.
The last detail I added was the jewelry. I am wearing an initial necklace I received from my good friend Kathryn for my birthday with an older longer necklace. Layering necklaces show you took extra care in your appearance and adds extra flair to the outfit.
My plan is style these joggers again for an ever more dressed up outfit. I would like to add heels and maybe some kind of kimono or vest. That look will come sometime this summer.
Have you jumped on the jogger trend yet? Have a terrific weekend! XO
It’s no secret that I love planting flowers for my deck. I get such joy from being creative with flowers. On my birthday my mom, sister, and I took our annual pilgrimage to Pesche’s. I shared my haul on Insta Stories but here I’m sharing the fruits of my labor. Without further adieu, enjoy my flowering planters for 2019.
How I Plant My Flowers
I just thought I would share how I go about putting my planters together. I will admit there is not much planning involved. When I buy flowers, I just go with what I find attractive while making sure I have varying heights of flowers. (Don’t forget to get trailing flowers for sides and front.) The key with every planter is having balance. (Just like in fashion!) Sometimes I will have the highest blooms in the middle and then put trailing ones around the perimeter. Other times I will put the tallest in the back and middle and then move forward with shorter and shorter blooms until I get to the front of the planter.
Besides the height of the flowers, you need to take in consideration the amount of sunlight the area will get where you have your pot. I have a mixture of shade and sun on my deck. If you have lots of sun, I recommend different types of coleus, geraniums, petunias, and wave petunias. They are tons more but these are guaranteed to do well. If you have shaded areas, go with begonias (my fave), snapdragons, or impatiens.
My last trick with my planters is that I always buy a couple of flats to fill in any gaps in my pots. Flats carry about 50 small flowering plants. It’s very important for your pots to be full and not show too much dirt.
These flowering planters will get much fuller as we move into summer. By August, they can get out of control so I sometimes trim them to keep them looking their best.
Do you have flowering pots and what are your tricks? I will be helping a friend do hers this Friday. Feel free to ask me any questions if you need a little help as well. To see my flower pots from years past click here and here.
Cropped jeans are big this season so I decided to pull mine out from my wardrobe. These cropped flared jeans have been in my closet for over 10 years. (not kidding!) So glad I kept them because they are everywhere now. Keep reading to see how to style them.
Cropped jeans are not my favorite style of denim because they are difficult to pull off. The key to wearing them is to make sure that the bottom of the jeans do not hit at the largest part of your leg. (You don’t want to look stumpy.) Make sure they end either at right below the knee or right above the ankle.
The most important styling tip I can give for jeans like this is to wear some sort of heel or wedge. Especially if you are short like me. If you are almost 6 feet tall, go ahead and wear flats or sneakers. My guess is that most of us need that extra height to lengthen our legs. Have you indulged in this trend yet?
Thanks for the Birthday Wishes
I really appreciate all the love I received on my birthday which was Saturday. So many family and friends reached out to me personally as well as on social media. I felt truly blessed.
My husband gave me the chicest and sexiest dress for my birthday which I wore to dinner on Friday. (He’s got the birthday thing down.) It will definitely be coming to the blog soon. I also did all my flowering planters on Saturday which is a labor of love. Stay tuned for photos of all of them on Wednesday’s post. How was your weekend?
Going boho chic with Heidi J Hale for a relaxed spring look. I recently did a collaboration for Heidi J Hale on Instagram and fell in love with their customizable jewelry. Keep reading to learn more about this brand.
Heidi J Hale creates handmade jewelry with a personal touch. I received an initial necklace and cross ring from a collaboration I did with them recently. Their quality and reasonable prices impressed me. Their selection is extremely large as well so there is something for everyone.
I fell in love with the items I chose because they are made with mixed metals. Mixed metals go with everything and are so easy to wear everyday. No worrying about clashing your jewels! My K initial necklace layers nicely with many of my other delicate necklaces. The cross ring fit perfectly and I wear it almost everyday now.
If you are still are unsure of what to get mom for Mother’s Day, check this brand out. (You only have two days so get going my friend!) It’s probably too late to get something customized but this necklace here and these earrings here would be wonderful gifts. Click here to head to their site. Thanks to Heidi J Hale for sending me this lovely necklace and ring.
This dress was a gift from my hubby several years ago and it is still going strong in my wardrobe for Spring. Denim works well with anything boho so I threw on my jacket for extra warmth. I have styled this dress before on the blog and wore leggings underneath which turned it into a tunic. The Spring season is the perfect time to try different ways of layering.
Birthday Babe and Happy Mother’s Day
Tomorrow I will be 48 years old. Sometimes I can’t believe that I am that age but I’ve learned that the wisdom I have received from all these years is invaluable. I’m hoping to embrace that truth this year. Looking forward to planting my flowers for my deck tomorrow. I find so much joy in creating beautiful planters with the flowers I buy.
A big shout out to all the moms out there. Happy Mother’s Day! I hope all you take some time to relax this Sunday and let the your loved ones take care of you. Enjoy your weekend! XO
I shared inmy last post that it was my birthday week so I thought why not give a peek into my fantasy birthday wishlist. These picks are way out of my price range but it’s fun to fantasize. What wasn’t a fantasy was meeting Jodie from Jodie’s Touch of Style which was the perfect way to start off the week. Keep reading to see more pics from our fun meet up.
Fantasy Birthday Wishlist
From left to right, top to bottom
Trip to Ecuador – I have always wanted to travel to Ecuador because of its proximity to the Galapagos Islands, the equator, and to the Amazon jungle. I like that they use the American dollar. It’s on my bucket list!
Rejuvenator Set by MDNA skincare – This is from Madonna’s skincare line which I’ve been dying to try This set specifically has a mask that is removed with a tool called the Rejuvenator. No rinsing involved!
I did a similar list like this last year where I mentioned that I wanted to see Gwen Stefani in concert. Lo and behold, I got my wish and got to meet her as a bonus. I’m not expecting that this time around but you never know. Lol!
Meet Up with Jodie from Jodie’s Touch of Style
I got the pleasure of meeting Jodie and her husband this past weekend in Denver. My husband and I were there because of wedding. I mentioned this trip in an earlier blog post and she reached out to me for a possible meet up.
We had brunch on Sunday and it was so fun connecting and learning more about each other. (She even convinced my husband to start a Bourbon Instagram account!) This is probably why I like blogging the most – because of the connections you form with other bloggers. Her husband took these amazing photos of us as a bonus. I just started following his blog here and you should too. Thank you Jodie and Rob for such an enjoyable visit!
I couldn’t wait to pull these printed trousers out for Spring. (Of course, I had to put them away again when the snow started falling this past week. Ugh!) Read on to learn how to style printed pants like a pro.
Printed trousers like these can have some pretty crazy prints. The key to making them look modern is to streamline the rest of the outfit. I wouldn’t recommend doing a printed top with pants like these. Go with a sold neutral color on top or with a solidncolor that is part of the print of the pants. I love the idea of using colors from the print in the accessories that you pair with the look. The green heels that I am wearing pull the whole outfit together in my opinion.
If you want to wear a pair of pants like this to work, throw on a classic blazer which will makenthe outfit more conservative. Consider opting for a pair of polka dot or floral print pants to liven up your wardrobe for the season.
Do you like the idea of printed trousers or do they scare you?
It’s My Birthday Week!
This Saturday is my 48th birthday. My husband thinks that I take my birthday way too seriously. What girl doesn’t want to celebrate and make it last all month? He gets the added pressure of having Mother’s Day the day after. I saw this post below on Facebook and had to post it to my timeline. Do you like to celebrate longer than just the one day?
Have a terrific week and let the celebrating begin!
This look is really a stretch for me because I rarely wear sneakers with dresses. I don’t know why I have this mental block. Maybe it’s because I’m short and I feel the need to have some type of heel to lengthen my legs. (Once a stylist, always a stylist!) I decided to take the plunge into sneaker style because this dress is above the knee. Wearing sneakers with dresses is huge this season so if you are on the fence, start with a more casual one like the one I’m wearing here.
The weather has been really cool here so layering underneath this dress was essential. During this in-between time, make sure to have several layering options like long and short sleeved tees. They can be layered under almost anything.
My Oldest Son is 17!
Can’t believe it but my eldest child will be 17 tomorrow! I still can’t wrap my head around the fact that Evan is 17. I remember his birth like it was yesterday. Now he’s a young man almost ready to go to college. Tonight we are taking him to dinner at Fogo de Chao because that’s what he requested. I am proud of the person he has become and look forward to seeing where his journey takes him.
May is my birthday month as well and getting excited for next weekend’s festivities which I detailed here. I am not excited about the age I’m turning (48) but you can’t have it all sometimes.
