Is Dermstore one of your go-to skincare retailers? It should be! Especially right now because they are having a 20% off sale (ends 5/28). That makes some of my Holy Grail items cheaper on Dermstore than on Amazon or during the Sephora sale. NuFace, Sunday Riley, GlamGlow, and Obagi (Obagi is only discounted 15%) are a few of the awesome brands that are participating. Read my post for my picks of the best of the Dermstore sale:

Here is the full list of amazing brands that are 20% off during the Dermstore sale:

NuFace Mini:

If you’ve been wanting to get the NuFace, get it now from an authorized retailer for 20% off. (Update: I just found the NuFace Mini on Sephora for $159 ($20 cheaper than Dermstore sale). The NuFace is an at-home microcurrent device that lifts your face. Sounds gimmicky, but I use it daily and won’t travel without it, because it actually works.

Read my full review about the NuFace here, or my post where I compare the NuFace Mini to the NuFace Trinity here. Spoiler: I prefer the cheaper Mini to the Trinity device!

Dermaflash:

People ask me all the time: do I do Dermaplaning at a spa to get rid of facial peach fuzz? No, because I do it at home with my Dermaflash!

I use the Dermaflash every 1-2 months and it gets rid of all that peach fuzz we all get on our faces as we get older. iPhones are too good these days- you can see that peach fuzz halo, and your makeup gets caught in it! Honestly most women our age need to be using the Dermaflash. Consider yourself on notice. :)

Sunday Riley:

This is the time to stock up on my Holy Grail Good Genes! If your skin doesn’t like retinoids (or you are pregnant or BF’ing), this product is for you! As I look back at reader emails I have answered, I see that I recommend Good Genes almost more than anything. It is a lactic acid serum you use before moisturizer at night to plump lines and even skin tone. Several friends I’ve turned on to this during pregnancy now say they like Good Genes more than their usual retinoids!

I also really like Sunday Riley’s Vitamin C serum, the CEO. I have personally gone through several bottles of the CEO. In comparison to other antioxidant serums, I think the CEO is the best for brightening existing dark spots and your overall complexion. It also has a pleasant citrus-y scent as opposed to hot dog water. I think Drunk Elephant C Firma Serum or Skinceuticals CE Ferulic are better for firming though.

Dermstore has an awesome 3-piece Sunday Riley set that I have not seen before: it includes the Good Genes, the CEO serum, and the Tidal moisturizer (for $90 + 20% off). Note that I would also not recommend Sunday Riley products (except the Good Genes) if you tend to get zits.

Glytone

I love the Glytone Rejuvenating Mini Peel Gel. It is my favorite at-home glycolic peel for brightening skin, and I much prefer it to the Drunk Elephant Babyfacial that gets so much press. And the Glytone is way cheaper (especially with the 20% discount!)

The Glytone Mini Peel Gel made my #2 best skincare product of 2016. Click here to read my full review on it. The name/packaging has since changed, but the product is the same.

DHC Eye Gels

I just ordered four of these! The DHC Revitalizing Moisture Strips Eyes are the best eye depuffers. And the 20% discount makes it way cheaper than on Amazon. I cut these in half lengthwise so I can depuff my upper lids at the same time. I store mine in the fridge and apply them while I’m making lunches and getting kids ready in the morning. Also under my sunglasses during my morning commute :)

The DHC Rich Eye Gels are also on the sale. I like that the shape of the Rich ones covers your upper lid as well. However the regular Moisture Strips depuff as well as the Rich (maybe even better), and are half the price. So I would recommend the regular over the Rich version.

Dr. Dennis Gross Spectralite

I can’t wait to look like The Man in the Iron Mask! Photo via thespotlyte.com

I just ordered the Dr. Dennis Gross Spectralite! This LED mask boosts collagen and has consistently excellent reviews on both Sephora and Dermstore. I wanted to get the Spectralite during the Sephora sale but it was sold out. Here is your chance to get it 20% off and I can almost guarantee it will sell out, so hurry!

Dr. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Glow Pads

Photo via omgbart.com

I guess Dr. Gross got all my money this time around! I also ordered the Dr. Dennis Gross Self-Tanner towelettes. A blogger I recently started following, Being Bridget, posted on Instagram that she uses the glow pads and that she likes them way better than the Tan Towels she had been using. Since I have sworn by the Tan Towel self-tanner towelettes for years, I figured I need to compare these!

Other awesome picks to look out for:

Wet Brush: Accept no imitations! The Wet Brush is my favorite detangling brush. It is way better than the Tangle Teezer.

Peter Thomas Roth masks: If you follow me on Instagram, you know I am a huge fan of the Peter Thomas Roth masks. If I had to pick, my favorite is probably the Rose Stem Cell Mask, but honestly one of my favorite skincare purchases of ALL TIME was the 6-piece Peter Thomas Roth Mask Set. Confusingly the mask set is not included in the Dermstore sale, but all other Peter Thomas Roth products are discounted 20% (including the individual masks when sold separately).

GlamGlow: The GlamGlow masks are the real standouts of the line. I really like the ThirstyMud (for hydration) and YouthMud (for reducing the appearance of pores and brightening/refining- I cannot find the YouthMud on the Dermstore site??). I just bought a Mega Size of the YouthMud during the Sephora sale.

Use promo code SUMMER to get your 20% off. Happy shopping!

I get lots of questions about makeup brushes, but I have never dedicated a full blog post to my all-time favorite brushes. Today I discuss my top four favorite makeup brushes, and easy tips on how to use them to look like the best version of yourself!

It Cosmetics Double-Ended Brush

If you put me on a desert island and made me choose only one brush, the It Cosmetics Double-Ended Foundation Brush *might* be it. It is definitely the one brush I can’t live without because it is so versatile.

Here’s the reason you need this brush: do you get creases from your concealer under your eyes? The small end of the It Cosmetics brush blends out your concealer perfectly. I use my ring finger to tap Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer on dark areas, and then use the It Cosmetics brush to swipe away any creases caused by the concealer. The brush’s small, domed head gets into the corners and crevices perfectly!

The small end is also great at applying concealer on the redness around your nose. If you have really red veins around your nose, I suggest dipping the It Cosmetics brush into Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Foundation (use a TINY amount, like a pinhead), and then use the brush in tiny circles to buff it into the area and completely blank out the redness.

The larger (but not TOO big) end of the It Cosmetics brush is fantastic for buffing on foundation in circular motions for a flawless finish. I usually apply my daily tinted moisturizer (current fave is It Cosmetics Bye Bye Foundation in Light (Ulta has a free gift with purchase right now- It Cosmetics travel size brush and Superhero mascara) or Clinique Workout Makeup in Light) with my fingers. But I most frequently use it as a blending brush to make sure there are no harsh lines from foundation or bronzer.

The It Cosmetics Dual Ended Brush retails at Ulta individually for $48. However QVC has a deal where you get the same dual-ended brush, PLUS a full size of the Bye Bye Redness (great for rosacea) for $36!

Sigma Tapered Blending Brush

If you ever wear eyeshadow, you need this Amazon find- the Sigma Tapered Blending Brush. I’m actually not much of an eyeshadow wearer myself, but I do swear by an old makeup artist trick for hooded or puffy upper eyelids: apply your bronzer (my current fave is the Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze & Glow) using the Sigma brush in a windshield-wiper motion to hollow out your crease. It creates natural-looking dimension without looking like you are wearing eyeshadow.

Add it to your Amazon cart now!

Fluffy Fan Brush

I’m pretty sure this is NOT what this brush is supposed to be used for. But this $7 fluffy fan brush has just the right density and size to apply bronzer perfectly! Not too much all at once, and easily buildable. I run the fluffy brush over my Charlotte Tilbury bronzer a couple times, and then sweep in long strokes across my upper forehead, cheekbones, and under my jawline to create a sharper appearance.

Powder Brush

There’s no reason to spend $60 on a fancy, luxury powder brush! This cheapo Real Techniques powder brush is $10 and works just as well as the Chanel brush I used for years. The key is to just dot and press and dab the powder brush into your skin to set your makeup– don’t rub the brush along your skin or you will wipe away the makeup you just applied.

My current favorite powder to set my makeup is Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Powder, but the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder is very good as well. The Charlotte Tilbury is more mattifying and blurs pores, while the Hourglass has a more glowy, fillter-like finish. Both brands are great options and KJB-approved.

OK and here’s one fun novelty brush set that does it all, the Moschino Pencil Brush Set. Is this not the most adorable brush set you have ever laid eyes on? Would be the perfect gift for grads!

People kept DM’ing me on Instagram that Nordstrom was having an incredible gift with purchase beauty event through Sunday, May 12th (Mother’s Day). It is also Double Points right now, if you keep up with that kind of thing. So I finally went to the Nordstrom store yesterday to scope it out, and HOLY SWAG they were right. So many of my favorite brands are participating- Charlotte Tilbury, Nars, Tata Harper, Kiehl’s, La Mer, you name it. Here is the landing page that lists all the Gift with Purchase goodness, or read on for my picks of the Nordstrom gift with purchase beauty event:

Disclaimer

Nordstrom compensated me to write a post about their Gift with Purchase Beauty Event. As is my standard policy, I only accept sponsored posts from multi-brand retailers that let me choose the products I feature and the subject matter of my post.

Charlotte Tilbury

If you were interested to try this brand after reading my post where I bought everything from the Charlotte Tilbury line, now’s the time! Any Charlotte Tilbury purchase of $150+ gets you a deluxe sample of the cult-fave Pillowtalk lipstick and the Airbrush Flawless filter powder (my fave setting powder). Promo Code: FAIR, MEDIUM, or DARK.

Wondering what Charlotte Tilbury to try? My top Charlotte Tilbury picks are (in descending order of awesomeness):

  1. Airbrush Powder (I wear shade 1)
  2. Filmstar Bronze and Glow
  3. Lipstick (my fave shade is Kim KW)
  4. Pillow Talk lipliner
Kiehl’s

This is the Kiehl’s Gift With Purchase!

The Kiehl’s gift is freaking incredible (pictured above). With a $125 Kiehl’s purchase, you get deluxe samples of a ton of their top-selling products: my faves include samples of the calendula toner, the Calendula Hydration Masque and a great basic night cream, the Ultra Facial Cream.

The Kiehl’s products that make my Holy Grail list? Definitely the Midnight Repair Concentrate and the big yellow body lotion. And I do approve of their line of masks. I bought a set of the Kiehl’s masks last year for around $50. I originally purchased the set to try their new overnight mask, but I ended up liking several of the other masks in the set way better! Nordstrom now has a similar mask set for $39 so you can try their standout line of masks yourself.

I love how Nordstrom seems to be carrying a lot of “value packs” right now. For instance if you are a fan of the Kiehl’s Line Reducing Concentrate, they are offering a two-pack for $92 (value $132).

Nars

The Nars gift with purchase seems particularly good- you get THREE deluxe samples of Nars lippies (and the “samples” are more like travel sizes; generous enough that I have yet to exhaust one) in good colors. Minimum purchase is $85 (not too bad as far as these things go!), and you get:

  1. Satin Lip Pencil in Rikugien,
  2. Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Do Me Baby,
  3. Powermatte Lip Pigment in American Woman
  4. a tiny, single-use blush on a sheet of paper that is barely worth mentioning and in no way, shape or form contributes to the awesome value of this set

To meet the $85 Nars minimum spend, I would recommend the Fever Dream Lip Trio (great shades and a $46 value for $30), Radiant Creamy Concealer (my Holy Grail concealer for under eye circles), the Orgasm blush, the Velvet Matte Lip Pencils (the Red Square shade is my go-to red) and their eyeshadow sticks are great too.

Clarins

Clarins actually has two awesome gift bags to choose from, and both benefit Lauren Bush Lauren’s Feed charity. I would pick the one with promo code “EXTRA” so you get deluxe samples of their eye makeup remover, Extra-Firming Day Cream and Eye Cream, the cult-fave Double Serum, and a mascara.

You only have to spend $65 to get the gift bag! My fave Clarins products are of course the magic depuffing mask (but Nordstrom doesn’t carry it), the Radiance-Plus Golden Glow Booster (my fave self-tanner for face- you just mix a couple drops in with your moisturizer/SPF), and the UV Plus Tinted Sunscreen (I use shade Light).

Lots of other brands had generous gifts too, like La Mer, Bobbi Brown (you get a free FULL SIZE eye cream, for goodness sake!), and Estee Lauder (huge free gift, so maybe you should get my fave night serum Advanced Night Repair if you didn’t stock up during the Sephora event). Really too many awesome offers to list, so click here to read the full list of the gifts with purchase!

And remember, if any of the products you buy at Nordstrom don’t work for you, don’t let them gather dust in your cabinets! Take them back for a refund because Nordstrom has the best return policy!

xoxo,

The Sephora Beauty Insider Spring Bonus Event is happening NOW, May 2nd-6th! This is the time to buy brands that are never usually discounted. There are two types of purchases I make during the Sephora events: 1) high-dollar staples that I always use up, and 2) pricey new things I want to try. Here are my picks for the Sephora Beauty Insider Spring Event 2019:

Disclosure

Sephora compensated me to write this post. I only accept sponsored post opportunities from multi-brand retailers that allow me to pick the products I feature and the subject matter of my post.

Details:

Sephora staggered the event start dates for different levels of VIB status:

  • VIB Rouge Status (spend $1000+/year): 20% off April 26 – May 6 with code HEYROUGE
  • VIB status (spend at least $350/year): 15% off May 2 – May 6 with code HEYVIB
  • Beauty Insiders (anyone who signs up for Sephora’s free Beauty Insider program): 10% off May 2- May 6 with code HEYINSIDER

SK-II Facial Treatment Masks

My #1 recommendation of the Sephora event is my fave sheet mask ever, the SK-II Facial Treatment Mask. I always stock up on my Holy Grail SK-II Facial Treatment Masks– I will probably buy two 10-mask boxes. These sheet masks are the absolute best on the market and will make you look 1000% percent better if you do one the day of a big event. You will look lifted, pores erased, brightened, and fine lines plumped. So much so that I promise your friends will ask you what you did different. The price is hard to swallow, but at $13 a mask, it is way cheaper than a facial! I wouldn’t ask you to spend money if I didn’t think it was totally worth every penny, and trust me, the SK-II mask is.

This might sound ridiculous, but a box of 6 sheet masks also makes an awesome gift if you want to spend around $100 on someone! You and your friends can all pitch in to give a box for a birthday or to the bride on her bachelorette party. And it’s like gifting a bottle of Veuve vs. a lesser known wine that costs the same- the gift will be more appreciated because they know it is pricey! Gauche, but true.

Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair

The Sephora event has perfect timing because I just ran out of Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair, my fave basic anti-aging serum on the market. It is so reasonably priced for a serum! Ever since I bought the jumbo bottle during last year’s event I have been using it more frequently, and I can definitely see a difference in my skin in terms of hydration and plumpness, probably within a week. I love to use it when I do my GloPro Microneedling Device (it works way better than the serum that is included with the device). There’s a reason Advanced Night Repair has been a best-selling serum for years!

Clarins V-Facial Intensive Wrap

Clarins has since changed the name and jar, but the mask is the same.

The other thing you need is my favorite depuffing mask, the Clarins V-Facial Intensive Wrap, because Sephora is the only place that sells it! Regular Clarins counters do not have it! I’ve been through numerous jars of this miracle contouring mask (I named it my #1 beauty product of 2016, full post here), and I will never be without it. If you ever drink alcohol or eat salty food and your face and jawline get puffy (a/k/a carb face) you need this! Trust me!

Sunday Riley Good Genes

If your skin doesn’t like retinoids (or you are pregnant or BF’ing), this product is for you! As I look back at reader emails I have answered, I see that I recommend Good Genes almost more than anything. It is a lactic acid serum you use before moisturizer at night to plump lines and even skin tone. Several friends I’ve turned on to this during pregnancy now say they like Good Genes more than their usual retinoids! And right now Sephora has a big value size bottle available.

Previously I was switching every other night between Good Genes and a retinoid, Differin, to fade my melasma and fight fine lines. Then I got brave one night and I decided to experiment by using the Differin, and then layering the Good Genes on top. My skin looked AMAZE in the morning! Brighter, the melasma patch looked faded, and my fine lines were visibly plumped in one night. [Note: I would not recommend layering these two until you are sure your skin is used to each one because it might be too active and cause irritation.]

If you want to dip your toes in first, try the Power Couple Duo that has smaller sizes of Good Genes and the Luna Night Oil, which is also an excellent product. I’m thinking about getting my husband on this since he has absolutely no nighttime skincare routine as of now.

Drunk Elephant C Firma Serum

Everyone should apply a Vitamin C serum every morning underneath sunscreen. Vitamin C is an antioxidant that prevents environmental damage (from pollution, etc.) that ages skin. A good vitamin C serum will also fade dark spots, keep melasma at bay, and generally even out your skin tone. If I go on a long trip and stop using my Vitamin C Serum for several days in a row, I notice my melasma getting worse. So I know it truly works! I have experimented with several different brands of Vitamin C serums, and my favorite is the Drunk Elephant C Firma serum. It is a very close dupe to Skinceuticals C E Ferulic, in fact so dupe-y that Skinceuticals (owned by Loreal) is suing Drunk Elephant for patent infringement! (To read up on the lawsuit, click here).

Another great antioxidant is Sunday Riley CEO. I go back and forth about whether I prefer CEO or Drunk Elephant C Firma. Generally I think Drunk Elephant is better for firming skin and improving skin texture, but the CEO is better at fading existing spots. Also CEO smells like oranges and C Firma smells like hot dog water.

Dyson Hair Dryer

If you’ve been wanting to try the super-fast drying Dyson hair dryer, the Sephora event is the time to buy. And they have a Mother’s Day set that includes a comb and a brush for $399. The Dyson does speed up my dry time a bit, and I immediately noticed my hair was more shiny.

During the last Sephora event I actually purchased both the Dyson hair dryer and the Dyson Air Wrap (pictured above). The Air Wrap is supposed to curl and dry your hair at the same time, and did produce very bouncy curls. But ultimately I ended up returning the Air Wrap because it was just too time-consuming and difficult to use.

FYI you are limited to the purchase of one Dyson item during the event.

Try Some Charlotte Tilbury

Newsflash: Sephora carries Charlotte Tilbury now! If you were interested to try this brand after reading my post where I bought everything from the Charlotte Tilbury line, do it now at 20% off! My top Charlotte Tilbury picks are (in descending order of awesomeness):

  1. Airbrush Powder (I wear shade 1)
  2. Filmstar Bronze and Glow
  3. Lipstick (my fave shade is Kim KW)
  4. Pillow Talk lipliner
Concealer

I’m buying two of my long-standing fave under eye concealer, Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer. For reference, I wear Vanilla. Nars recently added a bunch more shades to the line, so if you had trouble color-matching before, it is worth another look!

I have also been experimenting with the new Fenty Pro Filt’r Instant Retouch Concealer and I’m going back for another shade. The Fenty Concealer does seem to last incredibly well, so it’s perfect for around my nose where my concealer tends to rub off. I’m continuing to experiment, but it might give my beloved Nars concealer a run for its money.

Other random new things I am buying to try out:

The VIB sale has perfect timing because I just ran out of Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair, my fave basic anti-aging serum on the market. It is so reasonably priced for a serum! Ever since I bought the jumbo bottle during last year’s VIB sale I have been using it more frequently, and I can definitely see a difference in my skin in terms of hydration and plumpness, probably within a week.

If you’ve been wanting to try the super-fast drying Dyson hair dryer, the Sephora sale is the time to buy. And they have a Mother’s Day set that includes a comb and a brush for $399. The Dyson does speed up my dry time a bit, and I immediately noticed my hair was more shiny.

During the last Sephora sale I actually purchased both the Dyson hair dryer and the Dyson Air Wrap (pictured above). The Air Wrap is supposed to curl and dry your hair at the same time, and did produce very bouncy curls. But ultimately I ended up returning the Air Wrap because it was just too time-consuming and difficult to use.

Try Some Charlotte Tilbury

Newsflash: Sephora carries Charlotte Tilbury now! If you were interested to try this brand after reading my post where I bought everything from the Charlotte Tilbury line, do it now at 20% off! My top Charlotte Tilbury picks are (in descending order of awesomeness):

  1. Airbrush Powder (I wear shade 1)
  2. Filmstar Bronze and Glow
  3. Lipstick (my fave shade is Kim KW)
  4. Pillow Talk lipliner

Holy swag!! QVC is giving away a MASSIVE gift bag of products worth around $200 to anyone who orders one of the items I picked below! (There’s also more products to choose from that qualify for the gift bag, see below for deets). Seems like a massive boondoggle to me, but here are the products I picked (including one new product that has become a Holy Grail item for me!):

Disclaimer:

QVC compensated me to write this post. As is my standard policy, I only accept sponsored post opportunities from multi-brand retailers that allow me to select the products I feature and the subject matter of my blog post.

Turn on your JavaScript to view content
Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Lighting Palette

Let’s start with the product I am most excited about: this Tarte Highlighter Palette. Now, I’m not one to get particularly excited about highlighters or palettes in general, but this one is really special. In fact it has replaced Becca Champagne Pop as my fave highlighter.

The Tarte Lighting Palette is a beautiful, mirrored compact that comes with four awesome highlighter shades. I’ve decided my favorite is the one on the left, “Daylight,” but I have also been playing around with mixing them all together. Your favorite will probably depend on your skintone, but they are all so pigmented, making cheekbones look more glazed doughnut than glittery. Which is the look I’m going for when it comes to highlighters.

I don’t think I have ever liked an included brush, but the Tarte fan brush that comes with the palette is absolutely perfect for applying highlighter! Sweep it high on your cheekbones, and going up in a “C” shape around the outside of your orbital bones. And a quick tip: be careful not to apply highlighter too close to your nose because the metallic flecks can exaggerate the appearance of pores. That goes for any highlighter.

Supersmile Sonic Pulse Toothbrush

I’m just going to come out and say it: if you aren’t using an electric toothbrush you are gross. I know this because my Sonicare toothbrush recently crapped out on me, so I have been using a regular toothbrush for the past month. I can personally attest that my teeth did not feel as clean, nor did they look as white. Since that was my third Sonicare toothbrush to die (just stopped charging for no reason), I decided to branch out and try a Supersmile Advanced Sonic Pulse toothbrush. I definitely like the shape of the brush better, and I feel like it holds a charge longer than my Sonicare(s) did.

The Supersmile utilizes sonic vibration to clean teeth on its own, obviating the need for you to scrub back and forth which can be too harsh for gums. It also includes a built-in two minute timer so you can be sure you are brushing the dentist-recommended prescribed amount of time.

TanTowels

I figured the Beauty With Benefits campaign was the perfect time for me to not only try new products, but to stock up on staples I love and always have on hand. TanTowels Self-Tanning Towelettes are one of those staples- it is my favorite self-tanner for body. I discovered them years ago when a friend whipped them out on a girls’ beach trip and I have been hooked ever since.

The individual Tantowel packages are ideal for travel, and contain the perfect amount of self-tanner to give your whole body a realistic glow. If you are on a long beach vacay (I’m jealous!), take one of these in your beauty travel bag so you can refresh your spray tan as it fades! I find that TanTowels smell the least of any self-tanner I have tried. I usually use the “Classic” shade, but honestly I don’t think there is that much variation in color between the “Classic” and “Plus,” so I use both interchangeably.

Givenchy Matte Lipstick

Who knew that QVC sells super high-end Givenchy cosmetics?! I picked the new Givenchy Le Rouge Mat Velvet Matte Lip Color in Neo Nude. The shade was a little dark for me (it is darker than pictured on the website), but I was super impressed with the formula. You can tell it is very high quality because of how evenly it faded over time- not patchy where it wears off quickly on the inside of your mouth and leaves a ring around your outer lips.

The finish of the Givenchy lipstick is not a totally “flat” matte, which I like because it gives the contours of my lips more dimension, creating the appearance of fuller lips. It was fairly moisturizing as far as matte lippies go. I would say it is similar to the Charlotte Tilbury Matte Lipsticks in terms of hydration and staying power.

Beauty Bio The Pout Volumizing Lip Serum

The Beautybio The Pout Vanilla Mint Volumizing Lip Serum is supposed to instantly create the appearance of fuller lips. I guess that claim is true, insofar as any glossy lip product makes your lips look fuller. It is one of those tingly lip glosses- not as tingly as the Too Faced one that makes your lips feel on fire, but not quite as mild as the Marc Jacobs gloss. A manageable amount of tingly, I would say. This lip serum is nice, but not something I would purchase again just because I have so many glosses like that.

I do however highly recommend the Beauty Bio gloPRO Facial Tool! (Note: the gloPRO does not qualify you for the Beauty With Benefits gift bag, but it is a worthwhile investment nonetheless.) I try to use it 1-2 times a week to help boost collagen and plump fine lines. If you are interested in the gloPRO, definitely buy it from QVC.com because they include a body roller attachment for no additional cost!

Beauty With Benefits Campaign

As if the fact that every purchaser of these items gets $200 worth of free products weren’t awesome enough, Beauty With Benefits is actually a very worthwhile cause. The free products have been gifted by brands to encourage your purchase, and QVC and HSN are giving 80% of your purchase price to a cancer charity, Cancer & Careers, which helps people living and working with cancer navigate their workplace.

xoxo,

Are y’all about ready for my 2018 favorites? What’s that you say? It’s almost halfway through 2019? Well as long as we’re being honest about our failings, I also haven’t done our 2018 family photo book or sent out our “we’re moving” notices (we moved in February). But I have put away Christmas, so I have that going for me. Without further ado, here are my top 5 makeup products of 2018:

It Cosmetics Bye Bye Breakout

It Cosmetics Bye Bye Breakout is a full-coverage treatment concealer and treatment for pimples and the red marks they leave behind (available online at Sephora or Ulta). Because 2018 has been a year marked (literally) by hormonal adult acne, Bye Bye Breakout has become one of my most essential products.

Full-coverage pigments effectively conceal the look of pimples, redness, and discoloration without creasing or cracking. Like all the It Cosmetics products (including my beloved CC Cream Illumination and Bye Bye Foundation), the Bye Bye Breakout was developed with plastic surgeons and is infused with anti-aging peptides and hydrolyzed collagen. The beauty of this incredible concealer is that it also treats the zit while covering it up. Ingredients include oil-absorbing zinc oxide, kaolin clay, witch hazel, tea tree, sulfur and a gentle AHA/BHA complex to clear up the zit quickly without over-drying your skin.

Also it is incredibly matte, which helps blur and minimize the appearance of the giant hill in your skin. Whenever you have radiant or glowy concealers, they make light reflect back off it. Which is great for under eye circles, but for zits, it makes the height and profile of the actual bump stand out more. Because the Bye Bye Breakout is super matte, no light bounces off of it, so the “pimple hill” (I should coin that) is less apparent.

Another reason why Bye Bye Breakout is a new Holy Grail product for me is because it lasts! Concealer never lasts for me around my nose area (I’m either extra-oily there, or I inadvertently wipe it off throughout the day). But once I dab the Bye Bye Breakout on a zit, it doesn’t move for the whole day! Best lasting power of any concealer I have tried.

Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Finish Setting Powder

I had absolutely no desire to try a new powder because I was perfectly happy with the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Ethereal Light. But a salesgirl told me I should really try Charlotte Tilbury’s Airbrush Flawless Finish Powder because it is one of the Top 5 selling powders in the world. And she was right!

The Charlotte Tilbury powder is amazing and blurs pores and gives an illuminated effect. Seriously, throw out whatever powder you are using and buy the Airbrush Flawless Finish! FYI it runs a little dark/yellow, so if you are in between shades, I would go lighter. I wear shade 1 Fair and the 2 Medium (which is the powder included in the Pretty Glowing Skin Palette) is too dark on me.

Milani Lash Trifecta Mascara

Let me introduce you to the most eye-opening, lengthening, non-clumpy mascara on the market: Milani Lash Trifecta. And it is cheapo from drugstore ($8.99 or $13 on Amazon)! I’ve raved about it on my Instagram, and everyone agrees, it is phenomenal.

Here’s the problem: our small but mighty community of Instagram followers seem to have created have a worldwide Lash Trifecta shortage. It used to be readily available at CVS and Target, but now it is always out and never restocked.

But I have a plan: Milani still sells it on their website. So I think we should all order 10 of the mascaras, creating such a demand that Milani will surely take notice and realize that discontinuing Lash Trifecta would be a foolish move. Either that, or our en masse orders would deplete the world’s last remaining supply of Lash Trifecta, in which case I would regret telling you any of this.

Clinique Workout Makeup

What did I accomplish in 2018? Well I brought a new everyday foundation into the rotation. Instead of my usual It Cosmetics Bye Bye Foundation (which I still love, full post on that here), I have recently been reaching for the Clinique Workout Makeup in Light. It is a much thinner, liquidy makeup than the It Cosmetics, but it somehow has incredible coverage. For awhile I wore it only when working out, and I had no breakouts, even playing tennis in the heat. The key is not to set it with powder, just wear the Clinique Workout Makeup by itself.

I’m wearing Clinique Workout Makeup in this photo.

But then I started experimenting with wearing it more, as part of my normal makeup routine when it is hot or humid. Today for church I switched back to the Bye Bye Foundation and I looked like a total grease ball, so Workout Makeup will be my daytime foundation for the near future. I would recommend Clinique Workout Makeup for all but the very driest skin types. I have combination oily (in the T-zone) and dry around my eyes, but it works fine for me.

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Lip Gloss

Shoot, I just realized I picked Neutrogena Hydro Boost Hydrating Lip Shine for my 2017 best-of list [insert face palm emoji]. But in terms of frequency of use, Neutrogena Hydro Boost was absolutely my top lip gloss of 2018. I stand by the assertion that Hydro Boost is the most moisturizing lip product at the drugstore (including lip balms/chapstick/Aquaphor). I almost guarantee that it will fix your dry lip problems!

It is perfect in every way- the  shade reads super glossy clear, yet it really adds a touch of pink to your lips. It has tremendous staying power, yet it is not overly sticky or tacky. I like the Pink Sorbet color best, even though I’ve tried the clear, Radiant Rose (too pink on me), and Flushed Coral. They were all ok, but Pink Sorbet is where it’s at. I also like True Nude (a pale nude) also but recently I have had trouble finding it so maybe it is being discontinued.

So there you have it, my top 5 makeup products of 2018. For those of you wondering about my top 5 skincare products of 2018, I estimate that blog post will drop this summer. Sorry.

xoxo,

If you’ve been following me on Instagram Stories, you know I have been doing one-on-one skincare and makeup consultations. Since I get lots of questions about a quick, everyday makeup routine, I thought I would recap a fun consultation I recently did. Kate is a new mom and just went back to work after maternity leave. Understandably she was feeling a little haggard, and wanted a simple, quick morning makeup routine to look like a fresher [more awake!] version of herself. As we walked around Sephora, here are the products we picked out together.

Disclosure

Sephora compensated me to write this post. I only accept sponsored post opportunities from multi-brand retailers that allow me to pick the products I feature and the subject matter of my post. Also it is worth noting that I met with Kate at Sephora (her choice) before I was even offered this sponsorship from Sephora. But I thought a recap of our consultation there would be the perfect subject for a blog post!

First, so you can get an idea of her coloring, here’s a picture of lovely Kate after she applied the makeup we bought!

Perfect Your Skin

About 95% of the time spent on my makeup is spent perfecting my skin. Covering under eye circles, masking redness, covering hyperpigmentation left by zits and my light brown melasma. I usually recommend people use the It Cosmetics CC Cream Illumination because it is a one-step way to cover 99% of your skin troubles. Kate actually already owned the CC Cream and loves it, especially for its excellent SPF 50 physical sunscreen.

However I broke from tradition because Kate’s skin is SO beautiful! Porcelain, and annoyingly clear and creamy. The Sephora guy even commented on it! So I suggested that instead of covering her whole face with a mask of CC Cream (like I do for myself), I thought she should spot cover any flaws with Hourglass Vanish Foundation Stick. The Hourglass is my favorite foundation stick because it truly does vanish into your skin (as long as you apply the right shade). The Hourglass foundation line actually has a huge shade range, and the Sephora Beauty Advisor guy was very helpful in color-matching Kate.

As far as the application technique, I do not recommend applying the foundation stick all over your face unless you are about to make your stage debut. Instead of swiping the stick directly on your face, use your ring finger to dab it on like a concealer just on areas that need a little coverage. If you are not blessed with near-perfect skin like Kate, this technique also works over your other CC Cream or foundation just in areas where you need a little more coverage. I also love the Hourglass Vanish for touching up your makeup at the end of the day if you don’t have time to wash off and start all over. It doesn’t look cakey!

One caveat: I don’t love the Hourglass Vanish under my eyes as it can tend to crease. To cover up new-mom dark under eye circles, I recommended my longtime fave, Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer. For reference, I wear Vanilla and Kate wears Madeleine. Nars recently added a bunch more shades to the line, so if you had trouble color-matching before, it is worth another look!

Of course I couldn’t leave Sephora without picking up something for myself! I had been hearing the new Fenty Pro Filt’r Instant Retouch Concealer was really good, so I had to try it. The Sephora Beauty Advisor told me it would be too dry for under my eyes, and I really appreciated his honesty! I still bought it though :) On bare skin it was a little dry, but when I apply it over my usual CC Cream, it was fine. My first impression is that the Fenty concealer lasts incredibly well! Perfect for around my nose where my concealer tends to rub off. I’m continuing to experiment, but it might give my beloved Nars concealer a run for its money.

Bronzer

Kate had been using the same bronzer for years, and since she has been so good about SPF lately, her old shade had become too dark for her. I recommended my current favorite bronzer, Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze and Glow (in Shade Light). It is not quite as pigmented as some bronzers, so you can be a bit more heavy-handed in the application.

Wearing the Filmstar Bronze and Glow.

Besides generally warming up the skin, there are so many fun hacks for your bronzer! Use it under your chin and jaw sharpen up your jawline and detract from a double-chin or puffy face. You can also use it in the crease of your eye to add beautiful dimension without it reading like “eyeshadow.” This is an especially great trick if you have hooded or near-hooded eyes.

Set That Makeup!

I always recommend the Charlotte Tilbury powder to everyone. I was using the Hourglass Ambient Lighting powder and loving it, but  when I tried the Charlotte Tilbury, I realized there was no comparison. It is not quite as glowy as the Hourglass (which I still think is a great product), but the Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Powder minimizes the appearance of pores better than any other product I have tried.

For reference, Kate and I both wear Shade 1, the lightest shade of the powder.

Lips

Want to fake the appearance of bigger lips? Fill in your whole lips with lipliner (and it will make your lipstick last way longer too!) Also, on your top lip, instead of exactly tracing your cupid’s bow, I take the lipliner a little more straight across. This gives the appearance of a more ample, pillowy top lip!

And speaking of pillows, a great nude lipliner for most complexions is Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk (pictured above). Another great option (and the one that Kate picked) is Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Lip Pencil in Naked. It reads a little brown on me, but looked fantastic on Kate, both by itself and under a lipgloss. I’m pretty mad at Urban Decay for discontinuing three of my favorite lipliner shades, but it is still my favorite lipliner formula on the market! Glides on easily and never tugs.

Fu$$y by Fenty Beauty is a universally flattering shade of lipgloss! When I showed that I bought this on my Instagram Stories, so many people DM’d me that they love the Fenty Gloss! I prefer my lipgloss to be a little tackier because it stays on longer, but the Fenty is very comfortable to wear. I would say the texture is similar to the Marc Jacobs gloss (but without the minty-ness that can be annoying).

Eyes

Kate was looking for a fast way to emphasize her eyes. A quick hack is to use your brow pencil as an eyeliner! It only really works with my favorite go-to brow pencil, the It Cosmetics Brow Power pencil. Fill in any sparse areas on your brows, and then do a quick line at your lashline and smudge a bit with your finger. Just like a brown eyeliner looks after you smudge it a bit, but this is easier and lasts. You should try it!

Another tip to brighten your eyes: use the Benefit High Brow to highlight under the tails of your brows. It seems like an unnecessary extra step, but it draws the eye upward like you’ve had a brow lift! It also makes you look way more awake.

Given the recent global shortage of my favorite drugstore mascara, Milani Lash Trifecta, I recommended Benefit Roller Lash for Kate. It does not clump, and lifts and curls your lashes without the extra step of an eyelash curler.

Don’t forget your setting spray! A quick spritz of the Urban Decay Setting Spray will hold all your handiwork in place. It really does make a difference in the weartime of your makeup! And setting spray is especially essential if you use the It Cosmetics CC Cream, otherwise it will slide off your face in no time.

If you ever want to schedule your own skincare or makeup consultation with me, just shoot me an email kathleen@kathleenjenningsbeauty.com. I do FaceTime consults also if you are not in Houston!

Lately I have found myself referring readers to QVC.com because several of my favorite items are either not available at my usual go-to beauty retailers, or because QVC was running some super sale (like the gloPRO that a bunch of you bought before Christmas!) So I combed through the QVC.com site to find the best deals on some of my favorite Holy Grail products. Here are my picks for the best of QVC beauty:

Disclaimer:

QVC compensated me to write this post. As is my standard policy, I only accept sponsored post opportunities from multi-brand retailers that allow me to select the products I feature and the subject matter of my blog post. Hope everyone is cool with that!

Peter Thomas Roth 5-Piece Mask Luxury Kit

This is the old packaging, but the masks included are the same.

People ask me all the time: “What is your favorite mask?” This is akin to asking me which child is my favorite. The truth is, just like my children, it depends on the day. When I first started getting really into skincare and curating a “mask wardrobe,” I bought the Peter Thomas Roth 5-Piece Mask Luxury Kit. The fun of the sampler set is that you can assess your skin every morning and pick whichever mask addresses that particular concern. Are you broken out? Black mud mask. Feeling puffy from last night? Cucumber mask. Need a little extra glow? Rose Stem Cell mask. The PTR mask set provides endless pampering and entertainment. Trust me, you deserve this mask set in your life!

I’m convinced this Peter Thomas Roth mask kit is one of the best deals in skincare to date. If you were to buy each generously-sized jar separately, it would cost $212. But this kit is only $59!

If you would rather dip a toe into #carpoolmasking, I encourage you to try the $20 Peter Thomas Roth Meet Your Mask Kit that has six smaller tubes of all my favorite masks. At $20 this would make a great gift, and in fact it made my 2017 gift guide. QVC even throws in a handy mask applicator!

Let’s discuss my favorites of the mask set in depth:

Rose Stem Cell Mask:

Ok, if you put a gun to my head and said, you may only own one Peter Thomas Roth mask for the rest of your life, then I would probably pick the Rose Stem Cell Bio-Repair Mask. It smells and feels glorious, and provides lightweight hydration to revive tired skin and add a little glow.

I also love to use my Rose Stem Cell Mask the morning after doing my GloPro microneedling device (more on that later, QVC has a great deal on that too!) After microneedling I feel like my skin is still able to better absorb products and I want the Rose Stem Cell Mask to penetrate as much as possible!

Cucumber Gel Mask:

In the aforementioned gun-to-head scenario, I would immediately regret my Rose Stem Cell choice: “Oh, but how I will miss the Cucumber! Sometimes I need to calm my skin, and I think it hydrates better than the Rose Stem Cell. How shall I survive without it?!?”

Sometimes I tap a little Cucumber mask on my eyelids in the morning. This quick hack is very effective on days you don’t want to waste a whole Skyn Iceland Hydro Cool Firming Eye Gel patch.

Irish Moor Mud:

After I rinsed off the Irish Moor Mud mask for the first time, I said to myself, I’ll be darned if each Peter Thomas Roth mask isn’t better than the last! This is a refreshing clay mask that draws out dirt & oil without the dry and tight feeling that other clay masks leave. Oftentimes when I have clogged pores (usually on my nose and chin), I sacrifice hydration and put on a clay mask to draw the gunk out of my pores, even though I know my skin will feel yucky and tight afterward. But you don’t have to sacrifice hydration in favor of deep cleaning with this mask! The only downside is it is messy to wash off in your sink. But the improved look of pores, fine lines and wrinkles you get makes it well worth the black mess.

The 24K Gold Luxury Lifting Mask is moisturizing, but is a little sticky and tends to get glitter all over my clothes and the baby I am holding. The Pumpkin Enzyme Mask is supposed to polish and exfoliate, but it was a little irritating. But I don’t hate either one of them, and still use both periodically.

Sporting the Pumpkin Enzyme Mask

Tatcha Ageless Eye Cream

QVC is one of the only retailers that carries the fabulous Tatcha Ageless Eye Cream (It is in a two-piece set with a travel Renewal Cream). I know it is pricey, but the Tatcha is my favorite eye cream to date. No cream has made a difference for me in terms of under eye circles, but this cream does definitely help diminish fine lines and improve the texture under eyes (at least for me). It is the only eye cream that I can apply at night and it is still moist to the touch around my eyes the next morning!

Texture-wise this eye cream is on the thicker side, so some friends have told me they don’t think it works well under makeup and is better for night. But I love it at all times of day! To get your hands on this fabulous eye cream you have to buy it in a set with a small jar of the Tatcha Renewal Cream (which I have not personally tried yet).

gloPRO

If you have been following me for awhile then you know I am a huge fan of the gloPRO micro needling tool. QVC has a fantastic gloPRO set that also includes the attachment for the body, which is an awesome value.

The gloPRO uses micro-needling technology to help improve skin tone and fine lines. I have a whole blog post about my experience using the gloPRO here. I try to use it once a week, but my mom uses it three times per week and swears by it!

It Cosmetics Skincare Set

QVC sent me the It Cosmetics “New Year, Your Most Beautiful Skin!” Collection for free to try as part of this collaboration. It includes full sizes of their new Bye Bye Lines foundation, Confidence in a Gel Cream, Confidence in a Neck Cream, and one of their fluffy foundation brushes.

Longtime readers know I am a HUGE fan of It Cosmetics, and several of their products are Holy Grail products for me (namely the Bye Bye Foundation, CC Cream, Bye Bye Breakout, and Brow Power Universal Brow Pencil). In fact I have more product faves from It Cosmetics than any other one cosmetics line. I love the It Cosmetics makeup brushes as well, very high quality. That said, the Bye Bye Lines foundation was a miss for me. I will continue testing it, but first impressions were that it did not have as much coverage as the CC Cream and wore off and oxidized after a few hours. The Gel Cream had an interesting texture, but it was not enough moisture for me. It might be good in the morning under SPF and makeup though.

But there was one exceptional product in the set- the Confidence in a Neck Cream (which appears to be unavailable to buy individually at this time). The Neck Cream has a thick texture, and is orange in the jar and smells vaguely citrus-y. The second I smoothed it on the back of my hands I knew it was special. It is supremely moisturizing, and when I applied it in upwards motions to my neck, it felt strangely energizing. So of course my first question is, um, can we use this magical cream on our faces? Why do our necks get all the love? I have reached out to It Cosmetics to see if it is suitable for our faces and will circle back.

Another great It Cosmetics set I noticed on QVC.com is the Bye Bye Redness that comes with the double-ended brush that might be my most essential makeup brush that I own. The small concealer side of the brush is great for blending small areas around your nose and also for getting rid of the excess concealer that creases up under your eyes. I have several friends with rosacea who swear by the Bye Bye Redness, so if redness is something you struggle with you should check this out!

PS I also noticed that you get $10 off your first QVC purchase with code TEN4U

xoxo,
