Jades Photography Blog | Wedding Photographer, Victoria BC.
This is where I post my new stories, thoughts and ramblings on wedding, engagement and portrait photography. Sometimes my personal stuff gets mixed in here as well. A chance for you to get to know me and my photography on a more personal level.
Now that wedding season is officially over for me, I’ve had a bit of time to reflect back on what a year it’s been! It’s been my busiest year yet and I’m so damn thankful for all my wonderful clients who trust me to document their beautiful lives. As a small token of my appreciation, it’s time to do a giveaway!
I’m giving away $100 off any photo shoot (family, portraits, boudoir, even weddings!) AND a $50 Amazon gift card. Thank you all for being so wonderful and supporting my business.
I was looking forward to this wedding all summer long and it was everything I was thinking it would be and a hell of a lot more!! This day was a bit different for me because I agreed to meet these two lovely ladies quite early downtown on a Saturday morning so we could do their portraits yet avoid the crowds. Best decision I’ve made in a long time! The lighting was perfect and there was absolutely no one around! I loooove an urban vibe so getting to hit the streets with these two brides was definitely a highlight of the summer. Their personalities are so different yet they are the perfect match together. Jen who is quiet, sweet and reserved matched with Mel who is quick, outspoken and hilarious. After our session downtown we all took a break and met up again quite a few hours later at Jen’s grandma’s house for their intimate backyard wedding. It was the cutest damn setup I had ever seen! I loved the inclusive vibe of the long table where everyone could converse and get to know each other (it was the first time their families had met since Mel’s family is from the States and live quite far away). The ceremony was beautiful and intimate and you could tell there was so much love for these two to be starting the next chapter of their lives together. After the ceremony we decided to sneak out for a few more pictures which may have included trespassing on someone’s super cool driveway but hey you gotta do what you gotta do for the cool shots.
Jen & Mel – you are two gems. I’m so happy for you and thankful I got to play a very small role in your special day. All the best in the future and I can’t wait to see you two again soon!
In case you haven’t heard, I’m adding something a little different to my portfolio - personal branding sessions! I’m so so exited to work with female entrepreneurs to create not only the perfect head-shot for them but also photos that will tell the story of their brand and what they do on a day to day basis. These sessions can be whatever you want them to be and we will work together closely in the days leading up to your session so that your vision can become a reality. I even provide bomb ass hair and makeup so that you can look at feel your very best.
These sessions are geared towards women but I have had some men contact me with interest so I will be putting something together in the future with regards to you all as well!
I have a super fancy PDF I can send you if you would like more information on the how’s and why’s of these sessions so feel free to get in touch if you would like me to send it to you!
Here are a few from my recent session with the lovely Vanessa who will soon be launching Chodae, a custom wedding stationary company.
Originally I was scheduled to work 3 hours at Lauren & Andrew’s wedding. After I delivered their engagement photos (which you can see here), they decided to book me for a full 8 hour day. WOOHOOO! It was the ultimate compliment. Especially because I could tell from our brief hangouts that their day was going to be so damn good. And it was. An intimate and urban wedding filled with the best people. There were so many memorable moments throughout the day including Lauren & Andrew’s emotional first look at St. Anne’s Academy to both of them almost bursting into tears during the ceremony (they both held it together so well). The reception brought delicious and artfully plated food and emotional and super funny speeches from friends and family. There was even an ode to “The Bachelor” with both Lauren + Andrew being handed out a final rose. As a fellow trashy TV lover I quite appreciated it :)
Lauren & Andrew - what a pleasure it has been getting to know the both of you and the story of your journey together. I can’t wait to see what your future has in store - may it be all the best things only.
I am so damn excited to announce my first of MANY boudoir events! I’ve just finally ironed out the details and am happy to be able to share some more info with you all about the day!
Firstly, it’s going to be Saturday October 20, 2018 and I only have spots for 4 LADIES!! That means you can’t delay on getting in touch as they are going to go fast. It’s the perfect time to have your session done and order any albums, prints, etc for your loved ones as a spicy and unexpected Christmas gift. And if you are doing it for yourself well, it’s just a perfect time as well. You are going to DIE when you see the space we are shooting in. Think super urban loft in the heart of downtown Victoria, decorated with the most stylish accents. Oh and BRICK WALLS. It’s a stunning place and I may not ever leave after.
These boudoir sessions are going to be $399 and include professional hair and makeup as well as champagne and snacks so you can relax, be pampered and feel like a queen for a day. You deserve it. Included in this cost is a 45 minute session with myself and 8 fully edited digital photos via online gallery. YES you get to choose your photos and YES you can purchase more if you wish.
I’m so so excited to get this up and running and I’m even more excited to meet all you lovely ladies and have the BEST TIME EVER with you. Get in touch!
I love how there always seems to be 3 degrees of separation in Victoria. Turns out this stunning bride, Jenn, is friends with my last equally stunning bride Lea (in the blog post just before this one) as they grew up in a small town in BC together. ALSO, I had taken engagement photos for Jenn's cousin Ali a few years ago. I absolutely LOVE seeing past clients at weddings!
Jenn & Mike got married at the Delta Ocean Point in July. It's hard to beat the backdrop of our beautiful city....such a great venue! Jenn and her ladies enjoyed each others company while getting ready in the morning surrounded by many sweet little ladies who were so excited about the big day (there were 4 flower girls - sooo cute!). It's so apparent that Jenn is very close with her family and as such was surrounded by so so much love on her big day.
When Mike saw Jenn walking towards him you could tell by the look on his face how much he loves this girl. After the ceremony, the wedding party immediately went into the restaurant and did shots (so fun) to celebrate. We also had a party limo to drive us to the Parliament buildings and Beacon Hill Park for some wedding party and bride and groom photos. Such a fun bunch! The good times continued through the reception and there were some hilarious moments during the games they played. Mike guessed Jenn's hands blindfolded no problem but she couldn't tell which butt was his....lots of laughs. There were so many more memorable moments of the day but I'll let you take a look through some of the photos instead.
Jenn & Mike - I wish you nothing but years of happiness ahead!!
If I could dream up my perfect wedding to photograph this just might be it. Amazing beachfront venue? Check. Super fun and easy-going couple? Double check. Amazing family and friends? Check, check, check. Oh PLUS we did some bride & groom portraits at the top of a mountain. I mean, come on.
Lea and Jordan were married at the gorgeous Beach Club Resort in Parksville, BC this past June. First it was sunny, then it rained (A LOT), then it stopped. Then it rained again just before the ceremony. Lea made the call to wait 10 minutes before walking down the isle and what do you know....SUNSHINE! Jordan's daughter walked down the isle with their dog (with a flower crown) which was basically the most adorable thing you have ever seen. But then, when Jordan saw his beautiful bride walking towards him for the first time his reaction was priceless. There were too many great moments to write about so I'll just let you look at the photos. Also, in case you missed their slideshow, you can see it here.
Congrats Lea + Jordan. Wishing you two all the happiness for the future.
I'm not going to lie, I haven't slept much in the last two days. Partly because these two got married on Saturday and I have been on a high ever since. These are the kinds of weddings that fill me up and energize me, making me so appreciative for the work that I get to do. But enough about me....let's get to these two stellar people. Their wedding on Saturday was an intimate affair. Everyone in attendance held a special place in their hearts. And although it was a gorgeous wedding with many talented vendors involved, none of the details mattered to Lauren + Andrew. All they cared about was each other and vowing to spend the rest of their lives together.
I have so much more to write but I'll save it for the blog post. For now I'll just say THANK YOU for having me there and for being so god damn awesome. Cheers to an awesome life together.
Well hot damn these two cuties are getting married in like 10 days and I just realized I that I hadn't blogged their engagement session! Was that a run on sentence? Regardless, look at these two! We explored one of their favorite walking locations, the Songhees walkway, on a rare gloomy summer day. Even though we didn't get the epic sunset I was hoping for I got more laughs out of Lauren & Andrew than I ever expected. They have the most natural chemistry and such an awesome vibe between them. Their wedding is going to be freakishly good.
Mike & Jenn had the most beautiful wedding at the Delta Ocean Point Hotel on Saturday. The backdrop was the gorgeous downtown core of Victoria and their closest friends and family were there to witness them tie the knot.
There were no shortage of laughs all day long and I'm sure the dance floor was bumping long after I left.
I'll share more about their day when I blog the wedding but for now here is a slideshow preview of some highlights of the day. Congrats you two beautiful people!!
