A wireless light switch, also known as a Smart Switch is a light switch that controls a home appliance or light to turn itself on or off instead of interfering with the powerline to the light installation. There are various ways to communicate between the light switch and the fixture.
By radio transmitter: a radio receiver is wired on the fixture or wired to the electrical system of the house. The radio receiver is then programmed to respond to certain switches or through remote control transmitter.
Alternatively, the device is plugged into the receiver, and the receiver plugged into an outlet.

What is It Available in?
The Philips Hue E12 bulb, like many of the other bulbs, comes in both White Ambiance and Color — with the White Ambiance variant being significantly less expensive. It shares all of the same smart home traits as the other bulbs — and only difference being in the type of light and specifications.
It also comes in a 4 pack in a starter kit with a Philips Hue Bridge with both White Ambiance and Color.

If you’re wondering what a Candelabra lamp is, its usually a chandelier, similar to one of these:
Summing it All Up

IConnectHue is an IPhone and IOS app for Philips Hue lights that lets do do more with your Philips Hue bulbs when compared to the standard Philips Hue App. The app has been around 4.5 years and keeps getting updated — so it should keep working long into the future.
What can IConnectHue Do?
IConnectHue can help you control almost any part of your Philips Hue lighting. One way to think about it as the standard Philips Hue App, with a lot more features.
For a complete list of what IConnectHue can do (because there is so much, more then I can type here) check out https://iconnecthue.com/features/.
What Devices Can the IConnectHue Work With?
In addition to working with Hue Lights, it works with the Hue Dimmer, Hue Tap, and the Hue Motion Sensor. It also works with a Variety of Hue lights including All the Hue Bulbs, Hue Lightstrip, Hue Beyond, Hue Being, Hue Fair, and Hue Go.
IConnectHue also works with third party apps and products including Ikea’s Tradfri and GE Link (for a full list check out their site, link is below in the last section).
Summing it All Up
IConnectHue is a great app. However one of the downsides is that it currently only works with IOS/Mac (This is a common theme with Apps for the Philips Hue) — so if you’re using Android you won’t be able to use the app.
If there’s anything we missed, or anything you think we should expand on let us know below!
The Philips Hue app is the official app made by Philips that you can use to control your Philip Hue Lights. It is the main method of controlling your lights if you do not have a bridge and another input.
Because it is the official app it is going to work seamlessly and not have any problems like other third party apps might (it is also going to have the default features and nothing too crazy).
What Can I Do With The App?
Although you can’t do as much as with a Philips Hue Bridge, most of the functionality is there. The basic features such as turning the lights on and off, dimming your Philips Hue Lights, and changing the color of yout lights is there.
The app allows you to organize your lights into individual rooms controlling the power, color, and brightness of different areas of your home. In addition to that you can get more granular and control only individual lights. There’s a total of 16 million different colors that you can make your bulbs.
The App comes on Android and IOS, meaning you can use it for your Android Phone, Iphone, or Ipad.
Pre-Made Light Recipes
The official Philips Hue App comes with pre made light scenes and different light settings to emulate certain environments. For example, lights to mimic a sunset or mimic a nightclub — there are more to give your home the perfect environment for an event or just to relax.
Philips Hue Scenes
The Philips Hue App comes with over 30 scenes from Philips that were selected from their light designers. These help you transform your room or house to have an awesome vibe depending on how you feel, the time of year, or something else. Check out our post on Philips Hue Scenes for more information.
Picture to Light Feature
The Philips Hue App has the ability to take a picture and mimic the colors of the picture. This can create an incredible environment or be used in an area with art to compliment the artwork.
Do I Need A Philips Hue Bridge to Use the App?
You do not need to use a Philips Hue Bridge to be able to successfully use the App. Although a bridge will let you do a lot more with your Philips Hue Bulbs (such as connecting to accessories and more), you can still use the app to turn the lights on and off, control dim, change colors, and more.

The Philips Hue BR30, a lot like the Philips Hue GU10, is simply a different version of the normal Philips Hue Light. In this case the Philips Hue BR30 Flood light version of the Philips Hue light bulbs.
The BR30 is one directional (for the most part it only points in direction) unlike the regular bulbs which are omnidirectional (they can light up the whole room). The BR30 is better for large areas that you want to light up (such as a large room, or other large open area).
It is not recommended that you put Philips Hue bulbs outside, however it is possible if you want to risk damaging or potentially shortening the life of the bulb (if you live in a dry area with mild weather, it might not be a terrible idea).
Summing it All Up
The Philips Hue BR30 bulb is better if you want a bulb to brighten a large area vs the typical Philips Hue Bulb. Similar to the other Philips Hue Bulbs, the BR30 also comes in a color and white ambiance variant (the White Ambiance one is less expensive generally).
The Philips Hue GU10 bulb is a variation of a regular Philips Hue Bulb. Like the normal Philips Hue Bulbs it is capable of doing a normal Hue Bulb can do. The main difference is that it has a GU10 socket — which common for LED or Halogen Lamps.
There are two different types of Philips Hue GU10 Bulbs — The color version and the white ambiance version The White Ambiance version is slightly smaller while the color version is slightly larger and does not fit in all sockets. In addition, the White Ambiance bulbs are approximately half the price of the Philips Hue color bulbs.
How Many Different Hue Bulbs Are There?
There are several different types of Hue Bulbs that currently exist. There are many Hue Products but the main Hue bulbs include the A10, BR30, GU10, E12, Hue Lux, and others. The GU10 is different from most of them in size and the connection of how it connects to lamps.
Are there any other differences?
No there are not any other differences. The Philips Hue GU10 bulb can do anything the other Philips Hue Products can do including connecting with Apps/Philips Hue Bridge, changing color, and everything else that is possible. The Philips Hue GR10 bulb is smaller than a regular hue bulb and only points in one direction (while other Hue bubs are omnidirectional) due to how small it is.
Summing it All Up
The Philips Hue GU10 is just a different bulb for a different situation and socket. If you have GU10 sockets in your Home in a LED or Halogen lamp, this is the bulb for you. If you are interested in learning more about Philips Hue Bulbs check out our main page on the topic: Philips Hue
