No soul is safe on Episode 150 of HORROR MOVIE PODCAST, where we’re Dead Serious About Horror Movies. This week we bring you another of our themed episodes, Part 1 in a 2 Part series, Killing in the Name of… with a focus on real life horrors carried out to preserve ideology. Basically, we’re talking religion. We also talk politics, ask your age and weight … and then we make fun of your laugh. Okay, those last few things aren’t true, but we do make it nice and uncomfortable when we challenge our beliefs, the beliefs of others and discuss whether we’d kill someone if God told us to. You wanna get nuts?! Let’s get nuts!!! During this themed edition of HMP, Jay of the Dead, Dr. Shock and Wolfman Josh will make a believer out of you when they review Frailty (2001) and Red Sate (2011).

Horror Movie Podcast is a bi-weekly show that’s released every other Friday. If you’d like to support our show, please subscribe to our podcast free in iTunes, and leave us a review! And remember, we love getting your voicemails, so call in with more recommendations and comments at this number: (801) 382-8789 Thanks for listening to Horror Movie Podcast, where we’re Dead Serious About Horror Movies.

Welcome to HORROR MOVIE PODCAST, where we’re Dead Serious About Horror Movies. This is Episode 146, another themed episode, where Dr. Shock suggests the topic of Lucio Fulci’s Gates of Hell Trilogy. Our theme discussion includes the Lovecraftian roots of Fulci’s influences and the artists that Fulci has gone on to influence, as well as a lot of talk about appreciation of schlock cinema and avant-garde art and what an audience brings to that experience. Of course Jay of the Dead, Wolfman Josh and Dr. Shock review all three films in Fulci’s thematic trilogy, City of the Living Dead (1980), The Beyond (1981) and The House by the Cemetery (1981). We also bring you a postmortem mini review of a film directly inspired by the Gates of Hell Trilogy, Ted Geoghegan’s We Are Still Here (2015). Join us or you will face the sea of darkness and all therein that may be explored!

What the hell is “Pig-Headed Horror”? In Episode 144 of HORROR MOVIE PODCAST, your horror hosts go hog wild as we explore this phrase coined by Jay of the Dead, who defines it as a bizarre horror sub-subgenre (or at the very least, an odd trend), in which a human wears a pig mask—or even pig head—and leaves their victims boared to death! We should note that Wolfman Josh considers wallowing in the mud of “Pig-Headed Horror” to be beneath us as film critics, while Dr. Shock is amused by the full boar debate. But never fear, Jay of the Dead brings home the bacon!

To help us explore the theme of “Pig-Headed Horror,” we review Albino Farm (2015) and Madison County (2012) and Tormented (2014). Wolfman Josh and Dr. Shock also open up the Collector’s Crypt for a quick review of Scream Factory’s Blu-ray release of Motel Hell (1980). And this episode also has Feature Reviews of new release horror films Ghost Stories (2018) and A Quiet Place (2018) for some alternate programming. That’ll do, pig. That’ll do. Now it’s time to go PIG or go wee, wee, wee … all the way home! Sooey!

No pigs were harmed in the making of this episode.

HORROR MOVIE PODCAST PRESENTS the 2nd Annual HORROR CINEMA AWARDS — A celebration of the finest filmic achievements in horror for 2017!

We’ve assembled a wonderful jury from every corner of the horror community, including filmmaker, critics, writers, podcasters, artists, and academics. The nominees came from our jury in traditional awards show categories from “Best Actress” to “Best Picture.” The nominees were then voted on by the selected jurors, as well as the Horror Movie Podcast hosts and our 2017 HMP Listeners of the Year.

After that, your HMP hosts give away their own special “Dead Serious” awards where we get a little more out of the box and award films for their best “Beastly Freaks” or use of “Horror in the Daylight.”

And if you listen to the very end, you might even hear what could have been a Moonlight-level slip-up for the HCAs.
