100% chance of rain was called for…. until the rain clouds got word that it was Katelin + Taylors wedding day. So by grace, the rain clouds disappeared and the suns golden glow kissed the earth.

The day began with Katelin’s mom + sister helping her into her gorgeous butterfly lace wedding dress. Her grandmothers handkerchief was the something old adorn with memories of the past and her blue heals took care of the something blue. As the light morning rain gave way to the sun, rain drops glistened on the purple flowers just outside her window. It was the day her dreams were made.

Taylor was getting ready with his best man, groomsmen and his pup, Waylon. Taylor too was beginning to notice the clouds parting and the sun shining through.

As Katelin’s shoes went on excitement filled the air. It was time for Dad’s first look!

A soft gentle breeze and warm sunshine gracefully adorn Wolf Mountain Vineyards this past Sunday. It was the perfect day for Christen & Laird to become husband + wife.

The mornin began with a lush green hike up Amicaloloa falls alongside friends + family before getting ready. Breath taking mountain views surrounded them and the roar of the largest waterfall in North Georgia seemed to dance with delight that morning as it cascaded 729 feet down the mountain side. It’s grander and beauty set the mood for the day.

Her grandmothers diamond & sapphire bracelet along with a pair of diamond & sapphire earrings were laid out, ready to be the finishing touch to Christen’s gorgeous white wedding gown. As her mother helped her into her dress shimmers of sunlight bounced through the room… the moment angelic.

Every detail so meaningful with its own story to tell all came together for one very special day. A day that will cary its own story to be passed down, history in the making.

He was in the barrel room thinking of the moment he would see her for the first time. He was about to spend his forever with her!

But before their first look it was dads time to see his beautiful daughter.

The entire day was forecasted for rain… but when God wants something to happen He makes it beautiful!

As Erin slipped into her wedding dress with the sun shining through the hotel suite windows joy, giggles, smiles and bobby pins filled the room. Beauty just radiated from Erin, her sister and her mom as the zipper was zipped and the buttons closed. The finishing touch was the cross neckless mom gently clasped around her neck. She was perfect!

Meanwhile a few flights down Steven was getting ready with the help of his best-man; fox socks, grey suit and leather shoes. Today was the day he would take his wife and join his heart to hers.

It was time to exchange letters. The large front church door swung open and just on the other side was his gorgeous bride. Out of site but not out of reach. He touched her hand and pure exhilaration ran through their bodies. In moments they would be husband + wife.

The moment finally came as Erin walked down the aisle. Stevens bottom lip began to quiver as he took in the elegance + grace of his bride. It was everything and more.

This past Friday we had the joyful blessing of documenting a spring engagement session for Paige + Walker. The session was actually a graduation gift for Paige from Walker, but since their wedding is not until September of this year we are calling it their spring engagement session (we idd a beautiful on with them this past fall as well). Paige loveslovesloves photos, so for her this was the perfect present!

We believe that when you’re in love you should document as much of it as possible. Fifty – sixty years of marriage flies by in what seams like a blink of an eye so every moment of that love story matters. Those moments of yours are priceless.

Friday evening was GORGEOUS! Around 5pm the spring rain finally gave way to golden sun and blue Skys.

To our delight as the sun began to set and we ventured into the mountains that surrounded the vineyard a soft misty fog covered the tall grass and white wild flowers.

The closest words I can use to express the feeling we have to finally share this room would be beyond joyfully grateful.  It has taken us so long to finally share the reveal properly for so many reasons.  Let us tell you…

The before was what the previous owner had left behind. We walked into a house full of old furniture we needed to donate. And the sofa you see there was an old pull out couch that weighed about 200lbs! It was so big and heavy.  There was also a random old stove pipe still in the ceiling.

However, the layout used by the previous owners was on our minds.  It wasn’t until we got our things inside and placed them in their positions did they feel out of place.  The living space is a long rectangular shape and has the entryway door opening right into the room. Also the gas stove was sitting right in the middle of the living room layout. Being people who love to entertain, listen to vinyls, watch movies + football games, having the gas stove be the main focal point did not work for us. It was at that point we knew we would need to build some new furniture + install a wood burning fireplace. One handcrafted queen pullout sofa, new area rug, change of accent chairs, hand sewn leather chair cover, new wood-burning stove installation and one new handcrafted entertainment system later …we have our living room!

The first thing we tackled was installing the new wood-burning stove ourselves at the beginning of last August. We wanted it in before the fall. We ordered the stove online the Efel S33 Wood Stove, and then talked with a few installers to see what all we would need to install the stove. Thank goodness for E fireplace store they walked us through everything we needed plus how to install it ourselves. We ordered everything we needed for the install right from them. Once everything arrived it took us about two days to do the entire install. Brandon did most of the work while I held the ladder.

Up next was the new entertainment center, this came at the end of August 2018. We both wanted a clean modern design that still made the room feel open and spacious, which is a must in a tiny house. I came up with the design and Brandon came up with the build. This too took us about 2 days to construct. That seems to be the norm for us. We went for a white pained finish on the front and the top we left natural wood using a 1 qt. Clear Matte Water-Based Interior Polyurethane to finish it. Below is a photo we took the day it was completed.

We were then ready for our last build. The all wood handcrafted queen pullout sofa. As per the usual this was a 2 day project. Brandon’s parents were coming to stay with us for Christmas so the push to get it done before they arrived was on. After culling though so many designs we loved on Pinterest we decided to do something totally custom to us. The entire sofa base is 3 pieces of plywood and the inside finished wood is beautiful birch. For the inside finish of the couch we used the 1 qt. Clear Matte Water-Based Interior Polyurethane to match our entertainment center. The outer dark stain is 8 oz. Black Cherry Premium Fast Dry Interior Wood Stain which matches the rest of our home.

For sofa cushions we went with a navy indoor outdoor fabric cushions. We have two dogs who love getting up on the sofa which meant we need a color that does not show dog hair and is durable. These have been amazing. Sloane Dark Blue Indoor/ Outdoor Corded Sofa Cushion Set. Eventually we will get an all organic set of cushions but these are wonderful for now. I may even just switch out the stuffing for something organic, we will see. I was then on the hunt for throw pillows that fit our Scandinavian/boho design. The two main pillows are Danmitex Set of 2-20×20-Down Feather Throw Pillow Inserts-Cotton Fabric with pillow covers so I can wash them – TreeWool Decorative Square Throw Pillow Covers – Kaleidoscope Accent 100% Cotton. We went the same rout with the two side pillow. Hypoallergenic Lumbar Stuffers Pillow Inserts with cover Accent Home Printed Cotton Cushion Cover.

Several have people asked how we built the entire sofa in 2 days. We did a time-lapse of the build which I have included at the end of the post.

Well there ya have it, our happy little living room. Now, we’re ready for a party!

Here is the build time-lapse

It was like something strait out of a movie. A warm spring breeze gently brushed against cheeks and shoulders of guest as they began to take their seats on the hay bale pews. The sun was glistening above the tree tops, just enough to allow everyone to take off their spring sweaters and jackets. The day was perfect 72 degrees, golden sun and birds chirping. It was the perfect day for Andrea + Dylan to exchange their vows and become husband + wife with their intimate family and friends there to witness it all.

The sun was just cresting over the mountain tops and the first glimmer of light fell upon the quiet morning. As the valleys began to be uncovered from the darkness of night the high peak of Amicalola could be seen in all its glory with waters raging downward as if dancing with delight in the morning sun. He held her hand as they made the hike towards the top of the falls. Onward and upward they climbed into the delighfulness of it all.

As they reached the mid point bridge before their feet laid 50 red and white roses covered in a light mist from the cascading falls. The strong roar echoed from every point and filled every cavern with the sounds of natures true strength. With a profound smile and deep breath Dylan bent down on one knee and asked Gracie to be his wife. Nature in all its grander seemed as if it was dancing, rejoicing and resounding in the sweet whispers of love which flowed from Gracies lips as she said yes.

Cheers Dylan + Gracie!
May God bless your love story with deep devotion and unending grace.

Lisa & Dennis exchanged their vows this past weekend at Dunwoody Baptist Church followed by a gorgeous reception at Ventanas in downtown Atlanta Georgia.

Their beautiful wedding day was absolutely magical! Set high above the city and over looking Centennial Olympic Park from the bridal suite of the Embassy by Hilton Lisa gracefully stepped into her gorgeous white lace + silk wedding gown.  The lace cascaded effortlessly down to the floor creating a silhouette of pure elegance & allure. As Lisa’s mom looped each button which danced down the back of the gown she took in every moment, her little girl was getting married. The moments were sweet + quiet and filled with great joy.

A few flights down Dennis too was getting ready. His dapper attire consisted of a fitted three piece black suit and white bowtie by Allure Men. A style that spoke of a true gentlemen wishing to compliment his bride with an understated debonair look to ensure her beauty would sparkle.

The finishing touch was a pearl and diamond neckless which Lisa’s mom delicately clasped and her daughters neck. Vibes of wonderful lovely filled the room.

It was time for the bridesmaids first look! Lisa slowly opened the bedroom door and walked down the hall to the suite’s living room were the ladies were gathered .  With one look gasps, awes and tears began to echo off the walls. Before them stood their best friend on her wedding day looking more exquisite than gold. She was perfect.

As wedding photographers our days can last from 10 hours to 15 hours. Talk about getting in your “steps” on a wedding day, can I get an AMEN! But, the best part is that this time seems to fly by because we are doing what we LOVE, what we were created to do. Every wedding day is exciting, moving, thrilling and fast pace. We totally get it, it is so easy to get completely caught up in the forward fast pace momentum of the day.

However, over the years we have learned that slowing down is the better option to…

  1. Serve our couples well
  2. Document gorgeous creative photos of our couples

Taking in a deep breath of peace and then allowing that peace to flow from us brings joy to everyone on a wedding day. But most of all it allows our couples to feel relaxed, confident and stress free. Every couple on their wedding day deserves to be well taken care of. When we are at peace it relays the message that everything is under control, on time and going well.

And what makes for the most GORGEOUS photos… A couple who is happy, relaxed, full of confidence and deeply in love.

As professional photographers we are the ones who need to create an environment which allows our couples to feel this way. It is this type of environment which facilitates the ability to document photos that see into the truest part of our couples love story and soul.

Truth is, there is no reason to run around like a madman or madwoman;) on a wedding day.  Letting the “fast pace” of a wedding day get the better of you ends with a stressed out couple and missed priceless photos. Slowing down to tune in with your couples will make a world of difference both for them and the photos.

So fellow Wedding Photogs…
1. Breathe Deep
2. Think about what you are doing
3. Give clear, calm, smiling direction
4. Compose your shots well
5. Check them
6. Move on

Please, please, please don’t just spray and pray. You will end up with a tons low quality photos which equals hours of unnecessary culling, hours of over editing to make up for the lack of composition, lighting and emotion. Your heart and mind will be unsatisfied and your clients will be unhappy with the final delivery.

Instead slow down and be the great photographer you were created to be.
