After reviewing thousands of case studies going back 25 years across six countries, researchers at the University of Bristol say they indicate that eight out of 10 total knee replacements (TKRs) and six out of 10 total hip replacements (THEs) will still be in place after 25 years.
Dr. De Smet places his first ReCerf hip resurfacing device on March 3, 2019 in Johannasburg South Africa. ReCerf is a new type of ceramic on ceramic hip resurfacing device. The traditional standard hip resurfacing device is metal on metal like the BHR , Birmingham Hip Resurfacing Device, the Wright C+ and Biomet. New types of devices are being developed which will be used with all good candidates, even women and small men.
Interesting Video, but did not cover other hip resurfacing devices besides metal on metal – like poly on metal, ceramic on ceramic. Metal on Metal is still an excellent option when placed by an experienced hip resurfacing surgeon. All the top surgeons have excellent long term results. Best thing I have ever done! Got my left hip resurfacing with Mr McMinn in 1999 and 20 years later it’s still great. I’m an active person doing cycling, walking, swimming, gym and judo. A normal hip replacement would have probably been revised 20 years ago! Right hip resurfacing done in 2014 and perfect and still very active at nearly 67.
Today is the 5 Year Anniversary of my left Hip Resurfacing with Dr. Robert Marchand at South County Hospital in Wakefield, RI. My hip has been great. I am very active on it as well. I do a lot of cycling. I also work as a college football official in the fall and have no issues at all during the season. I do continue to do a lot of stretch, strength and stability exercises as well, and feel that plays a big role in how successful my resurfacing has been.
