I’m still on a high from this weekend’s amazing Happy Black Woman Mastermind Retreat in Paris with some of my top clients!
We enjoyed the City of Lights, plus did some powerful work on our businesses and ourselves.
Our theme for the weekend was “Step Into the Next Level Version of You,” which was all about taking massive inspired ACTION from the perspective of your “Future Happy Black Woman” instead of getting stuck in your current circumstances.
So much of our conversation was about the mindset and the discipline it really takes to build an online business and live an abundant lifestyle of freedom and travel.
Because the truth is, most people will NOT understand your journey, which is why it’s so important to invest in mentors and a supportive group of entrepreneurs who are doing the same thing you’re doing. Not looking at you like, “Huh? You make money on the internet? I don’t get it…”
I posted photos and videos from each day in my Happy Black Woman Facebook Group and on Instagram in my highlights @happyblackwoman. I thought it would be fun to post some of my Instagram stories here on the blog as a recap!
Here’s a peek inside of our experience:
We kicked off the retreat with a Welcome Happy Hour at a nearby French bar called Baku’s. It was a wonderful way to connect after all of us traveled to get to Paris!
We began Day 1 with appreciation and gratitude for our beautiful meeting space at the elegant Hotel Westminster! I will never forget all the delicious lunches we were served at Le Céladon Restaurant attached to the hotel.
The training and implementation on the first day was all about mindset, goal-setting, offer creation and content. Then, we spent the evening at a fun cooking class and dinner at Le Foodist with our incredible chef Frederic!
On Day 2, we covered content, sales and marketing. We ended the day with a lifestyle photo shoot with our photographer Christian from Paris for Two near the Eiffel Tower! You may remember him from our 2017 Paris Mastermind Retreat :)
Day 3 was focused on systems, automation and planning. We ended with powerful takeaways and a closing affirmation!
I am so proud of these ladies who are creating successful online businesses and giving themselves permission to have it ALL – the money, the freedom and the impact that comes along with being a successful Black Woman entrepreneur.
Now, in alignment with our retreat theme, I’ve got some homework for you…
If I was already the next level version of ME, I would…
Set a timer for 5 minutes and “fill in the blank” for your answer to this question in your journal. If you were already the next level YOU, what would you be doing? Where would you be living? How much money would you be making? Where would you be traveling to? Be radically honest and you may be surprised at what comes up for you!

We had a magical day with my UK Happy Black Women at my London VIP Mastermind Day!
Mindset shifts occurred. Timelines were accelerated. New programs and packages were created. Prices were increased. Plans were made. Friendships were formed.
And I am truly grateful to have witnessed it all.
I’m so proud of all of these amazing women for deciding to uplevel their lives, grow their businesses and inspire others along the way!
As a sneak peek inside the workshop, I wanted to share one of the concepts I covered.
So many women are making online business much harder than it has to be.
But the truth is, there are only 3 things you need to get paying clients:
1. AN OFFER
Let’s start with the most important thing – your offer. If you want people to buy, then you need to have something to sell. For an online coach, consultant or service provider, this would typically be putting together a package that provides value to the client. For example, a 1-on-1 consulting package, a private or group coaching program or an online course. You need to make sure the offer is aligned to your ideal client and designed to help them get results. Then, you would determine the right pricing, bonuses, incentives and payment plans to make it a “hell yes” for them!
2. A WAY TO TAKE PAYMENT
Once you have an offer, then you need a way to take payment. You can’t make money if you literally cannot process a client’s credit card. As an online business, you need to have a proper payment gateway in place so that you can make sales online. I recommend using Paypal, Square or Stripe! And get a business bank account while you’re at it, so that you can transfer your money from Paypal, Square, Stripe, etc. and easily track your business earnings separate from your personal finances.
And finally, you need something that most entrepreneurs struggle with – content. Content (emails, social media posts, livestreams, videos, etc) is so important for getting clients online that many large companies have entire departments and staff dedicated to it! As an online business, you should be creating content on a consistent basis. Not just any ol’ content, though. (Hint – just posting inspirational quotes and memes will not get you clients!) You need to create the kind of content that resonates with your tribe and inspires them to actually BUY from you.
These 3 things are so critical, but many of my clients come to me because they had been running around in circles, worrying about everything BUT the basics. And as a result, they ended up spinning their wheels and never really figured out how to lay a solid foundation for their online business.
In just 8 weeks, you will get clarity on your brand, position yourself as an expert, craft your offer, create engaging content, show UP and become visible online and attract paying clients…all without a fancy website, Facebook ads or complicated sales funnels!
We officially start on Monday, July 22, but when you enroll now, there are some juicy fast-action bonuses waiting for you, including a powerful Orientation Packet, PLUS 2 bonus calls on July 10 and July 17!
I made it to London! I got here yesterday afternoon after a 10 hour flight from San Diego. Whenever I travel to Europe, jet lag usually takes over for the first couple of days, but for this trip I set the intention that I was unavailable for laying in the bed all day and missing out on the city!
So, as soon as I got off the plane, I took a taxi to check into my hotel and then went to get a massage. It made my body feel so much better after being on such a long flight. I’ve decided to make it my new travel ritual!
After my massage, I had a quick lunch at Pret A Manger (there’s one on every corner here) and then went to get a “dry” mani/pedi at London Grace, a cute little nail salon near Leicester Square. Then I wandered around the neighborhood for a while and got dinner at Lanzhou Noodle Bar, which was some of the best Chinese food I’ve ever had. One of the things I love about London is that it’s such a melting pot of cultures and cuisines!
And now, I’m about to head to afternoon tea, which is truly one of the joys of my life. There’s something so elegant about that whole vibe that sparks my femininity and of course, feeds my foodie soul. I plan to bring my journal with me and allow my environment to be a beautiful container for manifesting!
Tomorrow, I’ll be hosting my VIP Mastermind Day in London for an amazing group of Black women entrepreneurs in the UK. It will be an intimate, transformative experience for all the ladies who are coming!
Being here in Europe reminds me of something I shared at my VIP Mastermind Day in Charlotte last month:
You get to decide how this goes for you.
Choose to have it your way.
The truth is that as Black women, we have so much more power than we think to create the lives we really want.
Years ago, I made the choice to create the kind of life that allows me to travel and work from anywhere in the world.
And that’s not a brag or a “flex” – it’s just the truth.
I decided what I wanted. I set the intention. I did the work.
But most importantly, I gave myself permission to get what I want.
I programmed my mind to believe that it was OK to be happy, that it was safe to have it all.
If you find yourself going around and around in circles – resisting and self-sabotaging and procrastinating on doing what you need to do to get what you want, consider that there might be an easier way.
It’s hard to make progress on your goals when you feel guilty about your desires, or to see them as bad or wrong.
That’s when you get to shift your mindset and view your desires as a nudge from God in the right direction.
I see my goals and dreams as a preview of the movie of my life. I see how ME being happy, successful and free is in service to my purpose to help other women. After all, how can you really inspire others to live their best lives if you’re not living yours?
As you change your mindset, your actions will follow. The results will show up. So, if your current thoughts are not serving you right now, choose new ones! Choose beliefs that empower you instead of limit you.
Be guided by the truth of what’s really possible.
You get to decide how this goes for you.
Choose to have it your way.

“Stop acting so small. You are the universe in ecstatic motion.” – Rumi
Here’s what I’ve found:
An unhappy Black woman is a woman who doesn’t give herself permission to have what she wants.
She lives by fear instead of faith.
She cares more about what other people think about her than what SHE thinks about herself.
She believes what the outside world is telling her instead of what her soul knows to be true.
She looks at her goals and sees only obstacles, instead of opportunities.
An unhappy Black woman recalls what her mother and grandmother had to go through and thinks that she has to do the same.
She forgets that things were different back then. There were very few choices for us.
But today, we have so many options.
Today, we have more opportunities than ever before to follow our dreams, achieve our goals and live amazing lives.
Today, we have the power to go out and get what we want.
However – you may have to unlearn what you were taught growing up.
You may have to de-program yourself of all the limiting beliefs you learned from your family, your environment, and even within the church.
Your dreams are NOT too big.
Your desires are NOT unrealistic.
Your ambition is NOT a sin.
There are so many factors that have kept us from rising to our full potential as Black women.
But at some point, you have to wake up and say – wait a minute…
Who said I can’t?
Who said it’s too much?
Who said it’s not possible?
Who said it’s wrong or bad?
And WHY am I living my life based what THEY said?
Stop believing the voices that say you can’t.
Shut out the voices that tell you you’re not enough.
Don’t listen to the voices that insist you have to wait.
I don’t care if the voice belongs to your mom, your grandma, your pastor, your boss or your man.
If they’re not speaking life into your dreams…they don’t get a say.
If they’re not affirming who you really are…they don’t get a say.
And if they can’t even understand your desire for more…they definitely don’t get a say.
REPEAT AFTER ME:
I get to DO what I want to DO.
I get to HAVE what I want to HAVE.
I get to BE who I want to BE.
This is the truth.
There are no exceptions.
Everything else you have been taught is a lie.
And when you act accordingly, that is when you will begin to attract so much more happiness, success and freedom into your life.

I’m so excited that summer is almost here! It’s my favorite season of the year and I always set intentions around how I want to enjoy it.
I’m already dreaming up ideas for my annual summer trip to Europe!
Sidenote: I have specific things I like to do, depending on the season. I have winter things, fall things, spring things, summer things, etc. I also like to travel to certain places at certain months in the year.
In fact, I have a special seasonal intention-setting process that I wanted to share with you today!
What I love about this exercise is that it always gives me something to look forward to as the seasons change.
Here it is…
I ask myself one simple question:
What do you want to experience in your life this summer?
Then, I make a list!
For example –
This summer, I want to experience…
Being outside as much as possible!
Lots of beach walks
Outdoor jazz festival
Day trip to Catalina Island
Hot air balloon ride in Temecula
Afternoon tea in London
Shopping in London & Paris
Cooking class in Paris
Going to Afropunk Paris and seeing Solange perform
Visiting Las Vegas to see my cousin Keith “One Time” Thurman fight Manny Pacquiao(!)
Decluttering my closet and refreshing my wardrobe
Hosting magical VIP Mastermind Days in Charlotte, London, New York & Washington, DC
Launching my new business boot camp
Launching my new VIP membership program
Creating new content for my blog, podcast and Youtube channel
Last week, I had a great time in Ohio celebrating my Grams’ 71st birthday with my family. As she gets older, a lot of our conversations are basically her sharing stories and insights about her life with me. (By the way, she did give me permission to share this with you!)
One of the things we’ve been talking about lately is how she would’ve liked to have done more of the things she wanted to do when she was younger. Which is why I love that she is starting to try new experiences, like our recent trip to Jamaica!
Grams often reminisces about how she could’ve been an artist, which was one of her passions back in the day. I’ve seen her drawings and she was really good!
But she’s not alone in her regret.
I hear this sentiment often from Black women in my tribe who are my grandmother’s age and younger – those in their 60s, 50s and even their 40s.
Women who put their dreams on the back burner due to life circumstances – kids, family, finances, career, and depending how old you are – the fact that many opportunities were not even available to us as Black women back then.
Unfortunately, most women never seem to pick those dreams back up again. We leave them buried in the past, as if they never existed. We don’t dare to speak of our big goals or even write them down, because we’re afraid that achieving them isn’t possible, that it’s probably “too late” now and well, isn’t it silly to have “dreams” at this age?
What I’ve found in my own journey as well as coaching hundreds of women over the years is that doing what you REALLY want to do with your life is harder than it sounds. And the older you get, the “riskier” it seems. Sometimes, it feels easier to just stick with the status quo, same ol’, same ‘ol so you can fit in with everyone around you.
From your relationships, to your family, to your career, this “creating your ideal life” thing is not all sunshine and rainbows. But what I always say and will keep saying – is that yes, it may be difficult, but it’s definitely worth it.
Because what’s the alternative? Getting to the end of your life and wishing you had done things differently? Watching the time fly by with little to show for it? Harboring resentment towards your family and friends because you always catered to everyone else’s needs and never prioritized your own?
If you’re like me, you want to live your life to the fullest! Which means that we must love ourselves enough to live the lives we truly want.
The good news is that you’re never too old and it’s never too late to change your life! You can start small, with the little things.
decluttering your home and letting go of everything that no longer serves you in this new season of your life
upgrading your wardrobe to reflect the woman you want to be
improving your diet and exercise routine so you feel better in your body
starting a new hobby or creative project, like painting or learning to speak another language
meeting new friends with similar interests
The cool part of this process is that the little things give you courage and momentum to go after the big things!
Which could lead to:
taking your dream trip across the world to Hawaii, Europe, Africa, etc.
starting the business you’ve always wanted
writing the book that’s been burning inside of you
attracting a new romantic relationship with an amazing man
choosing one exciting thing from your “bucket list” to do every year
By the way, we’ll be exploring these themes and so much more in my upcoming Get Back to You program!
Stay tuned, because I’ll also be sharing some of the new FREE content I’ve been creating for you inside of our private Facebook group.
Have a wonderful week and remember –
You can do ANYTHING you want with your life and NO ONE can stop you…but you!
Over the past few months, I’ve been working on implementing my 2019 business plan for Happy Black Woman®, including new programs, events, etc.
On paper, everything made sense.
My business goals for this year were S.M.A.R.T.
Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-Bound.
I kept procrastinating and my progress remained stagnant. I was stuck in a rut, big time!
After months of moving at the pace of a turtle, I finally figured out why I was experiencing so much resistance.
Although my goals “made sense,” they weren’t fully ALIGNED with who I really am and what I really want to do.
One of the biggest reasons why we procrastinate is because we don’t actually WANT to do the thing we’re so blatantly avoiding.
When you’re out of alignment, it’s difficult to take action on your to-do list.
In those moments, there are several things you can do to help you make the necessary mindset shifts so that you can get unstuck and get back to YOU.
1. Be Honest with Yourself
Transformation always begins with being honest with yourself about where you’re at right now.
In my process, I first write down all the things I DON’T like about each area of my life.
Then, I journal to get clear on what I DO want. Not what I’ve been PRETENDING to want. And not what I think I SHOULD want.
For most women, it takes a lot of courage to admit what they really want.
It can bring up feelings of unworthiness. Your limiting beliefs begin to rear their ugly head. Your inner critic starts asking, “who do you think you are?”
But the truth is that getting clarity on your true desires is the best way to come back to yourself and take action with authenticity and alignment.
2. Drop the Guilt
It’s so easy to beat yourself up when you’re not making progress as quickly as you want.
Speaking from experience being an A++ high-achiever my whole life, I notice my “inner mean girl” scolding me for getting off track – AGAIN. She says things like:
“After all these years, shouldn’t you know what you want? You really should have it all “together” by now!”
But wallowing in guilt and shame never helped anyone move forward, so it’s important to direct your mind to more productive thoughts – like, “what’s my best next step?” or “what can I do today that will move me forward?”
We’re all perfectly imperfect women striving to get better every day. There’s no need to make yourself wrong simply because you’re human!
3. Do the Inner Work
Over the years, I’ve learned how to coach myself through my own limiting beliefs and I’ve definitely had to do that a lot recently. So, I decided to revisit my tried and true “Happy Black Woman” personal development tools that have served me well over the years.
And a beautiful journey started to unfold.
I began journaling every morning AND evening to explore my desires.
I rediscovered parts of myself that had been put on the back burner.
I stopped trying to force myself into action and started following the path to what really lights me up instead.
And what I ended up with was a deeper understanding of myself and what I was feeling called to do in my life and business NOW.
That’s why I was inspired to create a brand new personal transformation program that represents the inner work that’s been necessary for my growth and evolution this year.
It’s called “Get Back to You” and if you’ve been stuck in a rut lately, then this program was designed just for you. It’s a LIVE 21-day challenge with daily assignments, tools and support that will help you rediscover yourself and get back to the woman you were meant to be.
These are the exact tools that have helped me to remember that as a Happy Black Woman, I can do anything I want with my life and no one can stop me…but ME. And you can, too!
Get Back to You begins on Monday, June 3 and just to sweeten the deal…
For a limited time, I’m offering 50% OFF introductory pricing for all the amazing women who will be jumping into this first live round of the challenge! After that, the price will go back up to the regular investment.
Aloha! I’m writing this from my hotel balcony in Waikiki, where I’ve been relaxing after an EPIC Happy Black Woman Mastermind Retreat with some of my clients in Maui! Our theme for the weekend was “Manifest Your 6-Figure Year” and all my Mastermind Queens showed UP and did the WORK for 3 days, with plenty of “play” in between :)
I thought it would be fun to give you a “sneak peek” inside the experience with some insight you can use for your own business and lifestyle, so here’s a little recap!
DAY 1: GOAL-SETTING & OFFER CREATION
We held our retreat at the Ka’anapali Beach Hotel in Lahaina, Maui, known as Hawaii’s “Most Hawaiian” hotel. On Day 1, we went deep into goal-setting where the ladies outlined their financial goals and the reasons behind each one. Then, I walked them through the process of creating both high-end AND low-end offers to scale their businesses. I believe in building up multiple revenue streams to minimize the risky “feast or famine” cycles that many women entrepreneurs go through, so having high-cost AND low-cost offers to sell is so important!
We had a beautiful outdoor lunch with the hotel restaurant all to ourselves. And then…these ladies rolled up their sleeves for our first Implementation Lab! They got out their laptops and began typing away with me looking over their shoulders as they laid the foundation for their 6-figure business vision. We ended the day with a gorgeous sunset and a yummy seafood dinner at the legendary Duke’s Beach House. Happy Black Woman Tip: Always REWARD yourself for a job well done!
DAY 2: SALES & MARKETING
Day 2 was all about marketing, sales and content creation. Our attendees mapped out their 6-figure marketing strategy for the rest of 2019, announced new offers to their tribes and refined their branding where needed. We did our second Implementation Lab and I gave them one of my “5x5x5 Content Creation Challenges” where the ladies had to create a piece of content and post it in 5 places online before the end of lunch. And yes, they accepted the challenge!
The afternoon was all about personal branding! We did a lifestyle photo shoot for each attendee with my incredible photographer Daphne Hargrove, the ONLY photographer I work with when we’re in Hawaii. We ended the day with a wonderful (and hilarious!) luau experience with delicious Hawaiian food and an open bar(!) at Old Lahaina Luau. After a full work day, our meal was well deserved!
DAY 3: SYSTEMS, TEAM & PLANNING
On our final day together, we went line by line through my “6-Figure Systems & Tech” Checklist, identified gaps in their businesses and explored what each woman’s next level of support needed to be. The ladies completed their third Implementation Lab and got a lot of the “techy stuff” done that they had been struggling with.
We also did hot seats at the front of the room and came up with some great ideas and brainstorming during our group Mastermind time. By the end of the day, the ladies had all completed their 90-Day Money M.A.P. with an action plan for what they were going to implement over the next 3 months. In true Happy Black Woman tradition, we ended our retreat with an affirmation circle. Say it with me: I know what I want! I deserve to have it! And I know that it is already done! And so it is.
Now, you may be wondering….what exactly did attendees accomplish from the retreat?
Since the retreat, the updates have been rolling in:
Jasmine has now fully booked up her calendar with 24(!) discovery calls scheduled with people interested in her new career coaching program!
LaDawn has launched her life coaching business and opened registration for her first live half-day workshop!
Dr. Natalia has launched her new yearlong diabetes prevention program to better serve her patients!
Terria has opened enrollment for her upgraded relationship coaching program!
Cathy has launched her personal finance and wealth consulting business!
Katherine has opened enrollment for her upgraded life and career coaching program!
Atima has created her new 5-day challenge and recorded the intro for her new women’s leadership podcast to be launched soon!
I’m so proud of all of my Mastermind Queens! I feel honored to be a part of their journey to grow their businesses and live life on their own terms. Congrats, ladies!
Now, in the spirit of our retreat theme, I’ve got some homework for you…
What would the 6-figure version of YOUR business look like?
Set a timer for 5 minutes and write out your answers to this question in your journal. You may be surprised at what comes up for you! If you don’t have a business, answer the question for your career. Be open to your next level!
I just got the photoshoot images back from our Happy Black Woman Mastermind Retreat a few weeks ago in Maui! I’m literally cheesin’ in all the photos because I get so much JOY from helping Black women grow their businesses and create the lives they REALLY want.
What I’ve found is that growing your business happens so much faster when you do it with INTENTION. Because when you don’t have clarity on your true desires, it’s hard to take action and actually get results in your business.
That’s why the first thing I had my clients do at our recent Mastermind Retreat was to connect to their big vision for their life and business. We did this through journaling and group coaching on what came up for them.
Below are the 5 “fill in the blank” journaling prompts we used that will help you get clear on your intentions for growing your business:
If I could do anything in my life and business, I would…
The amount of revenue I want to earn in my business is…
The reason(s) why I want to earn this amount of revenue are…
In order to earn this amount of revenue, I need to…
As the woman who earns this amount of revenue, I spend my day…
I recommend that you give yourself 5 minutes to journal on each prompt and fill in the blanks. Notice what comes up for you and how your answers make you feel. And then, go take action on your best next steps!
At the link above, you will be able to read all the juicy details about our Happy Black Woman Mastermind program as well as our upcoming business retreats in Paris and Mexico.
