GVGSA is a girls fastpitch softball league. We welcome girls 5 - 16 years old, all levels of experience, to come out and play ball. The objectives of the League are to provide a supervised recreational program that emphasizes maximum participation in competitive softball games for all interested young girls within league boundaries, and to firmly implant in the youth of the community the ideals of
I neglected to introduce our 6U All Star team at Opening Ceremonies. I would like to apologize to the families and players for this oversight. We were thrilled to have a 6U All Star team and hope this age group will continue into summer competition! We will introduce this awesome team at Closing Ceremonies on May 4th. In the meantime, here are some words about the team from Manager and Head Coach Thomas Arnold:
“Coaching the first GVGSA 6U Gold All Star team was a challenge, but one that I feel was ultimately and unequivocally a success. We went from playing Tee-ball -- where there are no outs, no strikeouts, no set positions, no umpires, no urgency. Girls sitting down in the outfield, running the bases the wrong direction, throwing the ball in the wrong direction. In just two months, we went from a Tee-ball team to a softball team. Girls had one or two positions; they learned their responsibilities; they knew the rules; they played with urgency.
We were playing extraordinarily competitive 6U softball -- like ridiculously competitive. The 6U competition down south is no joke. We lost, but we definitely could say that we belonged in the tournaments. I have never been so proud of a successful relay play from the outfield. I almost cried. The ball didn't hit the ground. We left the field after our last tournament game and I believe that everybody involved, from the coaches to the girls to the parents, felt that we ended the All Star season on a high note.
I want to implore GVGSA to continue with the All Star program at 6U. There is a massive jump going from 6U to 8U, and I believe that All Stars offers a necessary crash course to make the transition from 6U to 8U far smoother.
I also want to thank GVGSA for allowing us to have the team. To thank all of the parents for coming to at least three practices a week (didn't we do four/week near the end?), for making it to the games, for cheering us on, and for giving me the space to learn from my mistakes.” -Thomas Arnold
