the first time that I met emily and bob at their engagement session at fells point, several things were very clear. first, they make each other laugh… all. the. time. once we started to wander the streets of downtown baltimore, I would turn around to catch them giggling as they leaned in comfortably to each other, just sharing a moment. two, they are dog lovers! they had just rescued their second pup, odie, and he was already very at home in their little family with their older girl, olive. and third… and definitely the most obvious ~ they are just so smitten with each other which is always the loveliest thing to photograph.

as all of their friends and family joined them at the beautiful vandiver inn, emily and bob got ready with their closest people ~ as ali and I walked into the room to greet emily, everyone was buzzing around and caught up in the excitement of this day. although the forecast called for rain all day, we totally lucked out as it cleared up just minutes before first look and from there the rest of the day was a dream.

now let me tell you about my favorite part of this day… the 7 minutes that I will remember forever…. the suggestion that I will make to future couples, dj’s, and anyone else in this industry that I think will benefit because it was just that cool! like a typical wedding, the dj announced the last song and everyone gathered around emily and bob for a final ‘hurrah!’ of celebration before the night was over. but unlike any other wedding I have ever photographed, the dj then asked for all of the guests to leave and meet the couple out front for the glow stick send off. the reception doors were closed and it was just emily and bob on the dance floor… after the dj started the song, even he left. and for several glorious minutes, I saw my bride and groom exhale and really take in this day and what it all meant to them. they relaxed and swayed in each other’s arms at first and then emily circled bob as she happily spun back into him. it really was one the best endings that I’ve ever had the pleasure of shooting and I know that it meant the world to them. at the end of the song, they just stood still a bit, wrapped up in a hug before exiting the inn under a shower of glow sticks and well wishes from their people.

I know that the two of you are having to endure the the tropical temps and vibes of your honeymoon right now but please know how much I loved this day and how grateful were were to have such a special day wrap up our 2018 weddings. we wish you all of the love and happiness in the world!

typically I am with my couples for 8 hours or longer on their wedding day… from makeup to exit, I am by their sides documenting every moment. with mandy and casey, I was only there for 2 hours ~ but during those 120 minutes, I learned as much about them as a couple as I have during my longest events. this wedding was small, intimate, and only about one thing ~ becoming a family. they were so open and warm with me from the moment I got there ~ mandy’s girls were so clearly excited as they kept peeking out of the windows as the guests arrived. the first time I met casey was as he was walking down the aisle and through my lens he smiled a smile so big and true… pure + simple joy. after a ceremony filled with laughter and sentiment, mandy and casey shared their first kiss as husband and wife and then went to the girls, enveloping them in a hug of commitment and celebration. that told the whole story of this day and I was so happy to be a part of it. I wish you all so much happiness (with ALL of the selfies ) in the world! xo

from her first email, I fell for meg and knew.. was absolutely positive that I had to work with her. ‘HOLY CANNOLI, I’M GETTING MARRIED!’ was the opening sentence and it got even better from there. our email exchanges leading up to her and will’s engagement session just confirmed what I knew from day one ~ this girl was awesome and documenting their story would be nothing short of amazing. as we wandered local parks and beaches during their session, she enlisted me as backup for some her (very cool) ideas regarding decor and the guest book. will’s easy laugh and playful spirit during these ‘debates’ shone a light onto who they are together. best friends who are silly in love… true partners. so on their wedding day I already knew that being with them would be wonderful but the bonus came when I met their community. their friends and their family are the type who have supported them forever and had lifted them up to celebrate not only this commitment but also who they are – individually and together. I like photographing weddings because they are beautiful and romantic and fun. I LOVE shooting weddings because I am allowed to witness love such as meg + will’s and the love that surrounds them. not only for one day, but for a lifetime. HOLY CANNOLI…. you are MARRIED! and I wish you all of the love and laughter in the world  xoxo

the first time I met liz, we just clicked. there was something about her that was instantly familiar and I felt as though I had known her forever.. this is not the norm for me, but it was that day. and I also learned about her person that day as she told me about evan. she told me how they met, how long they had been together, and about their pups.. they are as obsessed with their dogs as I am with mine, and that’s saying something. it wasn’t too long after that that I met evan for the first time and I loved the way they were together ~ easy together like best friends are, but still starry eyed and smitten like new love. I remember hearing about evan’s proposal and texting lizzie ‘woohoo!!’ ~ she then sent me photos of the question being popped and also they two of them on a giant unicorn floaty on the beach  once wedding day came, I couldn’t wait to see my friend as I drove to stevensville. as I entered the room where she was getting ready, I was greeted by her family… all four of her sisters, her sister-in-law, and her mom. tears were popping up all over the place as lizzie got dressed and ready to meet evan for the first look. from that moment on, the day just got better and more beautiful. from the ceremony to the toasts, they were surrounded by a community of family and friends who have been with them since day one. I can’t begin to tell you both how happy I am for you and how grateful I am ~ not only to share this day with you but to call you my friends. I wish you all of the joy in the world together! xoxox

I absolutely adore weddings like this… a coming together of friends and family to create the perfect and memorable day for the couple. for ciara and jake, this was truly a celebration to share their happiness with those that they love. they had already been married at the courthouse but it was important to include their people in an event that would be a group effort on their road to forever (nicknamed ‘I do, part deux ). the wedding was held at the home of a family friend and as I got there, everyone was pitching in… decorating outside, assembling luscious cookie platters and other treats inside, and an all around buzzing of excited preparation. upstairs, ciara and her girls were getting ready together and between infectious laughter and champagne corks popping, the anticipation of jake’s arrival had everyone excited for this beautiful day. and of course, then there is hailey… their pup and their heart. you will see a lot of photos of her in this post. one, because I know how important she is to them. and two, I mean, look at her! sooooo cute! it was so wonderful to be a part of such a lovely day and I wish all of you a lifetime of happiness!

the bouquet… it may seem weird, but I have to start this post by mentioning erica’s wedding bouquet. I was already looking so forward to this day ~ the couple, the venue, the matron of honor (a former bride turned friend ) and as I drove across the bridge on this stunning fall afternoon, I knew it was going to be an amazing celebration. I met erica and her girls in the boathouse where they were getting ready ~ there was laughter and excitement as everyone prepared for the ceremony. I walked around the room, as I typically do, to look at the light and find the little, less obvious moments when I saw the bouquets. at first I thought that someone had mistakingly laid something across the flowers and I panicked a bit, hoping that nothing had been ruined. but then I looked closer… ‘erica? are there dogs in your bouquet?’ ‘yes!’ she answered with a smile. it was one of those everything-falling-together-I-was meant-to-shoot-this-wedding kind of moments. the love that erica has for all things four-legged is matched by her love for nick. from the moment that they saw each other as she walked down the aisle to the giggles they shared as the sun set on the harbor, these two are so lovely together and I was so grateful to share this day with everyone. I wish you all of the love, happiness, and tail wags in your life together! xo

‘he never cries.. I’ve never seen it once.’ amanda said quietly to me as we were getting ready to head to the beach for their portraits. but earlier, as amanda walked down the aisle on her father’s arm to meet him at the alter, nick couldn’t help but to let his emotions show. and who could blame him? this whole day was filled with all of the beautiful emotions that a perfect wedding day has… excitement and anticipation, adoration, bliss, and so much love. from the beginning of the day until late into the reception, amanda and nick were surrounded by family and friends who were as seemingly happy and they were that this day had arrived. it was such a joy to spend such a lovely day with all of you and we wish you so much joy and love as you begin your life together as man and wife! xo

it was a day of extremes.. one of the craziest wedding day weather scenarios that I’ve ever experienced. we went from sun to cloudy to torrential thunderstorm, back to cloudy, and then the sun came out and never left. extreme relief. and then there was the friendship ~ people had traveled from far and wide to celebrate lindsey and kevin and once the storm passed, everybody joined together to put everything back together. extreme support. and there was love, extreme love. whether it was between a father and a daughter, or two brothers who had had each other’s backs since childhood, you could feel it all day ~ it was in the air. although I hadn’t had the pleasure of meeting lindsey or kevin until their wedding day, this love that they share was everywhere.. the texts that kevin sent from salisbury about the weather assuring lindsey that it would pass, the excitement they both shared prior to their first look, the ‘whoop!’ that kevin shouted out after they were pronounced man and wife. it was a lovely day shared with even lovelier people and I was so happy to be a part of it. congratulations lindsey and kevin! I wish you all of the happiness in the world
