Gig Harbor Fly Shop Fly Fishing Educational Opportunities - YouTube

Not only do I love fly fishing, I love to teach it too.

I get asked by students, as well as clients on trips, “does it get old helping people learn to fly fish?” or “is it frustrating when you know you could do it better and actually hook the fish?!” Or a variety of other questions along the same theme.

The answer is always “no, not really.” See for me, I love to cast. I love to catch fish. I love to put all the pieces together and make it happen. I love everything about fly fishing. But it’s more enjoyable to help someone else, knowing that I had an instrumental part in their success. Whether it is honing their casting skill or actually catching a fish, their success is my success.

We have put together a solid program to help new fly fishers cut the learning curve and get out on the water and be successful. In this video I share about our introductory fly fishing class, as well as our lake, stream, and beach clinics. We also have private casting lessons for single handers or spey, as well as a spey fishing clinic for steelhead.

Sometimes anglers skip the clinics and opt for more individualized instruction by booking a guide trip. We want to be helpful. If there is something else that we can do to help YOU progress as a fly angler, please let us know.

This has been in the works for a while now and we’re super excited to announce our new Gig Harbor Fly Shop Tying Bar!

The table is set up with Renzetti vises and Loon Outdoors tools. You can either stop in and grab some materials and a beer and hang out tying flies or you can join us for one of our Thursday evening tying nights (6-8pm). Speaking of tying events, here’s what we have coming up!

We’re going to tie up a salty wooly bugger for cutthroat. Materials provided. Experienced fly tiers, you are more than welcome to come hang out, have a beer, and give some of your own tips!

March 22 – Stealth Bombers w/ Shop Staff Bur Harris Bur is going to be teaching how to tie the stealth bomber, a great topwater pattern for sea run cutthroat, bass, and more. Materials provided!

We’re excited about providing a fun atmosphere to help you develop as a fly tier. We’d love some feedback as we get this off the ground. If you have flies you’d like to learn how to tie, recommended special guests, or anything else, please let us know. Any questions? Please email us back!
