Once in a while, the fashion and beauty industry reveal new makeup trends which look out of the world and we can’t stop wishing if we could flaunt the same. Sure some of them are colours we never thought we can use every day but looking at the trends being sported by celebrities and beauty gurus worldwide, it does not seem impossible to recreate them. Here’s how you can try them at home:
The Orange Makeup Trend
Orange is a summer colour, sure to pop up on any look. However we aren’t talking about bright or neon oranges. It is the deeper, burnt orange shade that is used to create this unique look. Plus it is versatile too – the orange makeup trend can be used for both our eyes and lips. One can also use shades from the same family to create this look.
For the eyes: Start by grabbing a matte, burnt-orange eyeshadow. Pat the shade all over your lid and onto your lower lashline. Then, to add depth, work a matte, deep brown shadow onto the outer corners of your eyes and smudge.
Though most of the looks on this trend sported a matte look, you can also add glitter eyeshadow in a deep orange shade on both your upper lids and below your lower lash line for a special night.
For the lips: It’s much easy to sport this trend on the lips. Pick a deep orange with earthy tones. A matte lipstick would give you the desired look.
As the name suggests, it is the reverse of the smoky eye makeup. Quite popular with the celebrities, this new trend is a delight since it requires minimal products and effort and looks super cool at the same time!
How to do it: Using a kajal/kohl pencil, line the waterline of your eye heavily. Smudge it and re apply to achieve a dark look. Next, use a dark brown eye shadow with a flat brush to apply it under the eye. You can also add some black eye shadow to the area. For your upper lids, dab some brown eye shadow to complete the look.
Point to be noted with this makeup trend is that if you go overboard or don’t blend properly, you could end up looking like you have a dark under eye problem!
So that now you know how to achieve these two amazing new makeup trends at home, do not shy away from flaunting it. Tag us in your pictures on Instagram with #GiaSaysThatBeauty if you do, I can feature you on my Instastories
It’s the first month of New Year, which means its time for new things. From new resolutions to new clothes and maybe also a new look. Now a new look/new year makeover can be an expensive thing to achieve. You can either spend hours at a salon to get new hair and nice skin or you can do it all on your own, right at home.
If you’re one to go with the New Year, new me philosophy, then here is how you can do it in just five simple steps, all from the comfort of your home.
Step 1: Skin Detox – For a new look the first time you need is flawless skin. To get that, you need to detox in order to flush out all the toxins that have accumulated underneath the surface. Steam your face for at least 10 minutes, this will open all your pores. Follow this with a peel off mask, this will help remove blackheads, and any dirt and grime on your face. Follow it with a home made turmeric mask, this will give your skin a healthy glow.
Step 2: Hair Spa – Oil your hair for half an hour and then steam your scalp with a steaming machine or by simply holding head over a pot of hot water with a towel over it. Follow this with homemade yoghurt hair pack. Wash it after half an hour. The yoghurt will make your hair soft and shiny.
Step 3: Hair Cut – Even though you can find a number of videos online that can help you DIY your haircut, we suggest you visit a salon for this step. Pixie cuts and really short bobs are the way to go for haircuts this year. A short crop can really change your look and short hair will also come in handy during the sweltering hots months of summer. Check out these places in Mumbai for a quirky or rad makeover on a budget!
Step 4: Change up your makeup – We can often get repetitive with the way we wear our make up. Changing little things like the colours of our lipstick, the way we wear kajal or eyeliner or changing the way you do your brows can really help you change your look.
Step 5: Have a positive outlook – A positive and happy mind can have an effect on your outward appearance as well. When you’re happy on the inside you’re sure to glow on the outside.
The New Year is all about new things, so get out there, experiment with your style, hair and makeup and have the best year possible.
All year round we put our skin through the paces. Even, when we follow the basics sometimes, to keep our skin glowing, supple and nourished, there is a little something we end up missing.
Drinking enough water, eating well, and using the best products can also sometimes not fulfill your skin’s needs to rejuvenate and revitalize it.
Here are a few things that will surprise you:
Our skin tends to age at 2X the speed when it encounters pollution and stress on a daily basis, regardless of your age, be it 15,25 or 35!
You may start noticing dark spots, hyper pigmentation, uneven skin tones, wrinkles etc. as early as 35
Things may get so bad, you may look like much older by the time you are 40
Make no mistakes, we all know people around us who are facing these issues. Much worse, we are too.
Objectively thinking, you really cant escape the ageing process. While good genes do help, it is much more difficult to keep your skin looking young now, with the amount of pollution, dietary gaps, alcohol, processed foods, and what not being part of our lifestyles.
Add to that the stress we encounter in our daily lives, and your skin is really put to test.
Now a lot of people forget that one of the most damaging factors are UV rays. And they contribute to 90% of the damage, believe it or not.
With the amount of chemicals we also end up using as part of our cosmetics does not make things any easier.
All of us know that Oxygen is crucial for our survival, but most of us are unaware of the fact it also plays a significant part in maintaining the vitality of our skin.
The “Lack of Oxygen” in our skin leads to clogging of pores, blemishes, dullness, pimples, dark spots, uneven skin tone etc. Thus, it’s imperative that we understand the need of our skin and take steps to avoid the re-occurrence of unwanted skin problems.

Figure out your undertone – This is how you do it. Look at the veins on your arms, if they appear blue you have a cool undertone, if they appear green you have a warm undertone and if it appears to be a mix of both blue and green then you have a neutral undertone. Depending on your undertones, pick your concealer, cool undertones work well with concealers with pink undertones, warm undertones work well with concealers with yellow or gold undertones. Neutral undertones work well with a mix of yellow and pink undertone concealer.
Use colour corrector – This neutralizes the imperfections of your skin, like pigmentation and dark circles. Always do this before you put on your foundation. Use peach for dark circles, green for redness, purple for dullness, and yellow for brightening. If you don’t want to splurge on color correctors even red and peach lipsticks can do the trick.
