Rachel and Lars’ little adventure session didn’t go at all how I planned and I think that’s a reason why it turned out so well. They love the outdoors so we wanted to incorporate part of camping as it’s a big part of who they are as a couple. I forgot to bring my tent. We went and bought a tent (Thanks Fleet Farm!), this pushed the start time of our session back. Interestingly enough, this ended up being the reason I love this session so much. It pushed me to work in lighting outside my comfort zone which got my creative juices flowing. I love the results. By the end of the session we were shooting in pitch black and I was using a headlamp for a light source!
Photographers, don’t be afraid to work outside of your comfort zone. You grow the most as an artist in these circumstances. Even if you go out with friends for a few hours to shoot, give yourself opportunities to grow.
I would absolutely love to do more of these adventure sessions in 2019. If you’re interested in setting one up don’t hesitate to contact me so we can start brainstorming. I would love to create the perfect session for you.
Wes and Beth’s in home session was kinda last minute. They were taking the next step and moving to a new apartment. I knew how important their current place was to them. Beth got ready here on her wedding day. They spent the following few years growing together here. When they told me the plans for the next step in their life I knew we needed to do a session before they left. We chatted and the next morning I was over.
For the people who are already blessed to have these two in their life, you know how incredible they are but I want to just take a second to share about them. Already having to take on more than many do in a lifetime, they are wise far beyond their years. Always willing to give and sacrifice for others. Ridiculously talented artists and musicians. Incredible friends who will drop what they are doing to hang out with some old farts with a bunch of kiddos. You guys know this but we love you and are so so thankful for our friendship.
Here’s a set of my favorite images from our morning together.
