Hello lovely,

It’s been a while since I’ve made a new video or published a new post on here! Something really big happened in my life… I had a baby 6 months ago.

It’s been the most amazing adventure, but I’m not going to lie – getting my head around work and looking after Kasey has been a challenge for me. I love both so much, but it’s impossible to take care of both at the same time.

I used to work all hours of the day, because I just loved what I was doing so much, now I’m lucky if I manage to grab 30 minutes without getting distracted!

When I started FEA in 2011 my focus was to create a platform for us to be able to be open and honest about the reality of building businesses, so I decided to take the plunge and create the video below and this post and to be completely open.

It’s FAR from perfect.

It’s FAR from my usual videos.

But it’s real.

Over the past few months the idea of creating content again has been weighing on me heavily. I’ve made weekly videos for years now and it felt weird to stop when I had Kasey, but I gave myself permission to take time off to enjoy the precious moments with him. However, lately I’ve felt the pull to get going again but then the little voice in my head kicked in…

“I look so tired and crap at the moment, I need to wait until I look better!”

“The house is such a mess, there’s no where to film!!”

“What do I even say now?!!”

The reasons mounted up for why now wasn’t a good time to get going with creating new videos, so I kept putting it off.

Then today, sat on the sofa with a very snuffly baby, I decided to just DO IT!!

To make an imperfect video, with messy hair, a messy house, Kasey sat on my lap and stop waiting for things to be better before I get started.

It felt sooo good to just give myself permission to do it. So here you go:

Hello, it's been a while! - YouTube

For so many of us we want to create things, we want to do things, but we get in our own way. We think everything needs to be better than what it is to get started, but it’s not true. We just need to get started where we’re at and then make it better as we go.

So my challenge for you is this:

If there’s something you’ve been putting off creating or doing, give yourself permission to just do it!

Start it, take one little step. Don’t wait around, because the time will pass and you’ll miss out.

The video I made above was so far from perfect, but I had the courage to just do it and put it out there and now the ball is rolling again I can work on getting better.

It doesn’t matter what stage of business you’re at, we’ve always got things which push us outside of our comfort zone, but let’s be courageous and take that step.

Carrie xx

When you’re just starting out as an entrepreneur and a one-person show, all you want are simple strategies, that if done well and consistently enough, will deliver the amazing results you dream of.

But with so much advice out there pressuring entrepreneurs to be on EVERY social media platform from the get go, it’s no wonder so many end up confused, overwhelmed and stuck, rather than making the progress they set out to achieve.

Focusing 100% of your time and effort into one social media platform means you are SO much more likely to make a breakthrough, rather than spreading yourself so thin that you just end up a stressed out mess!

But how do you go about choosing the right social media platform for your business? Which platform will let you share content with your audience in the most engaging way? Which platform is best for turning viewers into subscribers, loyal fans and paying customers??!

Predicting the results you will achieve on any platform is impossible, but what you can do, is make an informed decision of where your focus should be.

So in this video I share with you 3 essential tips for choosing the best social media platform for your business.

The Best Social Media Platform For You | 3 TOP TIPS - YouTube

[Tweetable: @iamcarriegreen shares 3 essential tips for picking the right social media platform for your business.]

If you’re ready to find the social media platform that’s going to take your business to the next level, then make sure to download the free workbook :) Download it here >>

Here are 3 essential tips to help you understand which social media platform you should focus on:

Know your audience.

In order to pick the right platform it is absolutely essential that you know your audience inside out. Start with the basics: age, gender, occupation and the desires, challenges and frustrations that your audience might have that your business will help them to solve. Then think where they might go to get them solved – what social media platform would YOU choose to solve those problems? Use common sense and keep in mind the purpose of your business and the kind of content you will be sharing. The more you dig into who your audience is, the more you will understand their online habits and how they are likely to interact with your business online.

Make sure you like the platform!

To achieve a breakthrough on any platform, you will have to spend a huge amount of time using that platform every single day. You will need to put so much effort into making the platform work for your business that you have to make sure you actually enjoy using it! You have to want to figure it out and learn everything about it. So ask yourself whether your choice feels right and whether you’re ready to spend hours making that platform work for you. If the answer is no, then pick something else that might be a better fit for you.

Make an informed decision

Without a crystal ball, there’s no way to guarantee what the results of your choice will be. When I started FEA, I picked Facebook because I felt like that was a platform where I could find female entrepreneurs, connect with them and help them. I had no assurance it was going to work. But chances are that if any of your competitors or similar businesses have succeeded on that platform, you can rest assured that you are 100% able to do it too! It’s a question of whether you’re ready to put in the time and effort to make that platform work for you.

You need to be doing something every single day to learn about the platform and how to make it work. You also need to post good quality content consistently. If you learn, experiment and test every day, you will inevitably grow your presence and achieve a breakthrough. The first few months might be painful and disheartening and it’s likely to move at a snail’s pace, just remember everyone starts off in the same place and it takes time, for some longer than others. Keep in mind with absolute certainty that you can make that platform work for you and that you will eventually manage to drive so much traffic, engagement and excitement about your business through that platform.

So often entrepreneurs despair at the fact that no matter what they’re trying, things don’t seem to be working out in their business. It’s frustrating and a hit to anyone’s motivation to put so much effort into something that’s just not generating results.

I often hear from entrepreneurs who are feeling stuck and in despair at the fact that no matter what they’re trying, things don’t seem to be working out in their business. It’s really frustrating and a big blow to anyone’s motivation to put in so much and feel like you’re getting nowhere.

Too many people give up at the first hurdle, not realising that building a business is never going to be an easy, straightforward process and things are likely to all go wrong before they start going right.

Most of the time it’s mindset that holds us back and not whether we’re actually capable of achieving or doing something. Focusing on the problems and why it’s not working is just going to make you feel down about it. It’s all about perspective.

Instead, try asking questions like “How can I fix this? What can I tweak? What can I learn from my results?” so you can let your mind to be open to solutions and possibilities.

So, in order to help you make a breakthrough, in this video I share with you 3 things you can do when you’re stuck and nothing seems to be working out.

Here’s the strategies I try when I feel stuck and my efforts don’t seem to be working:

Take a step back from your business and take a look at everything you’re doing in detail. Break everything down so that you can really see what’s going on. So often people give up, thinking certain strategies will not work for them, when in fact they just haven’t spent enough time figuring out HOW to make it work for them. You need to be willing to experiment and to be the investigator in your business, constantly analysing what you could change and tweak to make things work. So take a step back, analyse what you’re doing and where you may be going wrong. Be honest with yourself and take responsibility for the issue and for finding the solution.

Ask for help or feedback! You don’t always have to figure everything out yourself and you shouldn’t have to! Ask your audience or your team for their help and input. Get advice and help from experts you can reach out to, or from the people involved in the problem you’re experiencing. Getting someone else’s perspective on the matter is always a real help.

Take a look at all the evidence and the results of your investigation. It’s not about changing everything in one go, so make a list of things you could change or improve upon. Figure out what changes you can make and then prioritise your list so that you know where to begin. Finally, slowly start implementing those changes.

Breaking past the barrier starts with having the awareness of what’s going on. It might even be that you need help from someone who is a bit more experienced or a few steps ahead of you, or maybe you need to do some serious research. At the end of the day, entrepreneurship  is all one big experiment and you need to be ready to roll up your sleeves and figure things out because no entrepreneurial journey is going to be plain sailing. We all hit rough seas and you have to be able to navigate that, get past it, grow and learn.

It’s always amazing to look back over how far you’ve come and how much you’ve learned.

Building a successful business is definitely never easy but the amount of learning and personal growth you get from having the passion and determination to go after your dreams is just transformational.

In this week’s video I look back over my journey to building FEA. I still remember the first video I ever filmed, which was so bad I never even bothered downloading it off the camera!

And whilst it’s never been easy, in this video I share why I’ve never failed in business, and why my journey is still only just beginning in a way.

I still have ridiculously big dreams to chase after. For me it’s always down to having the mindset that those goals are a done deal and that the reality I dream of is on its way to me.

However, I still get scared to even dream so big from time to time. On those occasions, I always turn to the person I look up to the most for encouragement and inspiration… check out the video to find out who that person is for me:

So you are set on starting a business, but for some reason you feel stuck before you even get going.

Maybe you have a million ideas swirling around your head and you’re finding it difficult to focus on a single one, or perhaps you’re struggling to come up with any ideas at all?

You’re not alone. So many entrepreneurs I speak to start out like this. Figuring out what business to start and committing to a single idea is just as difficult as actually going on to build that business.

Without clarity and conviction, you get stuck dreaming without ever actually DOING.

So in this video I want to go back to the very foundation of starting a business with a 3 step process to help you create a clear vision for your entrepreneurial journey.

STARTING A BUSINESS | 3 Tips For How To Know What Ideas To Follow - YouTube

Here are some tips to help you get clarity around your vision and your idea so that you can go after it with confidence and conviction.

Start with a broad vision

All businesses start with a vision, so the very first step is to create your own vision of success. You don’t have to create a specific vision of the business you want to build right away, but you do need to have a vision of the kind of business you want to create or the kind of life you want to live as a result of that business. The universe has a funny way of bringing into your life whatever you focus your thoughts and energy towards, so it’s worth making sure you’re focusing on the outcomes you’d love to create. Have fun dreaming up an ideal scenario you would like to build for yourself. When I started my first business for mobile phone unlocking, I quickly realised it wasn’t my passion, but it was the start of my journey as an entrepreneur and everything I learned led me to eventually building FEA. So start where you are now, your first try doesn’t have to be your be all and end all. All you need to do is get started on a pathway that feels right for you at this moment.

Immerse yourself

Once your big vision becomes clearer, immerse yourself in it! Connect with it, think about it all the time and make it a part of your life now so you can start to figure out the details of making it happen. As you focus on it more and more, the idea will come together and the pathway towards it will unfold for you. Practice makes perfect in this case. Immerse yourself in the vision of what it is that you want to create for yourself and that one “ideal idea” will make its way to you.

Open yourself up to exploring different options

There are a million and one business ideas you could go for but you have to think about what works and feels right for YOU. Think of what you love to do and what interests you. Think of what you are really good at and anything you feel called to do. When I started FEA, the idea was born from the fact that when I had started my first business I felt so lonely and isolated as a female entrepreneur. I didn’t know other women like me that were running businesses and I wanted to find them and connect with them. I recognised the need for a platform that would connect female entrepreneurs so I plucked up the courage to do something about it. Ask yourself whether you already know deep down what you would like to be doing but might not be giving yourself permission to go for it. Answering these questions will help you paint a clearer picture of the kind of business that really works for you.

As entrepreneurs it’s so easy for us to get caught up in it all and feel stressed about everything we’ve got going on. All the big dreams we’d like to achieve, all the things we need to learn and manage, all the challenges that come up… the list goes on.

It may come as a surprise (and a shock) to some people to know that stress is actually a choice. It’s completely up to us whether we choose to feel stressed or not and it all comes down to our response and emotional reaction to any situation or challenge. The choice is completely within our control.

In his book, Man’s Search For Meaning, the amazing Viktor Frankl said, “Everything in life can be taken away from you except how you chose to respond”. So when you are experiencing something challenging, CHOOSE how you respond, and make sure you do so in a way that will help you to move forward, not hold you back.

Of course, I’ve often dealt with stress myself, but a simple perspective change helps me transform the way I respond to challenges. So, in this week’s video, I want to share with you the 3 strategies that help me shift my perspective whenever I feel stress looming, and help me to respond to challenges in a positive, constructive way.

Here are the strategies I use to help me change my perspective when stress creeps in:

Always keep in mind that stress is not real, it’s something we make up in our minds as a response to a situation we’re experiencing. The way we respond to things happening around us can affect us so much and you can choose to not let it affect you negatively.

As entrepreneurs it’s easy to get really stressed out by everything we’re trying to achieve, but just remember you don’t have to feel this way. When you’re feeling overwhelmed and anxious, let go of any negative thoughts and emotions that might be filling your head, and you will be able to completely change your perspective and approach to the situation. Choose how you are going to respond in a way that will help you move forward, not in a way that will hold you back.

Stress arises from issues external to ourselves. Perhaps something has gone wrong, challenges are coming up fast or you can barely keep up with your workload. Whatever it may be, we get so overwhelmed and stressed by it because we get caught up in it.  So, force yourself to take a step back and get a bird’s eye view of what is really going on, so you can remove yourself from the situation that’s happening. Just focus on changing your perspective on the situation – I promise you’ll feel so much better and it will help you understand things more, grow as a person and learn from the experience itself.

Once you’ve taken a good look at the situation that’s stressing you out and you’ve changed your perspective, attach another emotion to it that is not stress. Take back that power and choose a positive or empowering emotion that will propel you forward instead. If you’ve made a mistake, promise yourself to do anything you can to learn as much as you can from that situation. If you’re about to give a speech to a large audience and it’s causing you to feel overwhelmed, focus on a positive outcome, hear the applause and cheers in your mind. Switch it up and connect with that positive emotion instead. The emotion you attach to a situation is completely up to you, so choose a positive, constructive emotion that will have a better impact on your wellbeing, your life and your business.
