You know I am all about bronzer. I use bronzer every time I wear makeup to add a touch of warmth to my face.
When it comes to summer, though, I am extra big into bronzer. I use bronzer to not only warm up my face as I do year round I layer it with blush and dust it all over my face. I mix bronzer and highlighter shades, and mix bronzer shades themselves. Yes, I am all about the bronze and glow for summer and I cannot live with a great bronzer palette.
I have searched for (and use) the best bronzer and best drugstore bronzer for years! In the summertime, the bronzer palettes come out and I am not afraid to tell you that my makeup drawer is filled with some great bronzer palettes.
These are the best bronzer palettes you need to know about for 2019 and buy for the summer season.
1. BECCA x Khloé Kardashian & Malika Haqq Bronze, Blush & Glow Palette - $44 This four pan palette features two shades of blush, bronzer, and highlighter that are designed to give skin a beautiful glow. There are two color families to choose from. The formulas are super sheer and are some of the very best; I have been using the Made with Love By Khloé non-stop this spring. The formulas are inspired by the skin-smoothing effects of photo filters. To get a lot of color, you need to build them, which I like. They are infused with soft-focus pearl and blurring pigments to scatter and reflect light on the skin.
2. Charlotte Tilbury Glowgasm Face Palette - $75 This four pan face palette also features light-diffusing shades that bronzer, blush and highlighter; it reminds me of the BECCA Bronze, Blush & Glow Palette above, though it is much more pigmented. There are also two color stories to choose from, making it easily wearable by all skin tones. I love the soft-focus finish and how the shades work together to give skin a beautiful bronzed, lit-from-within glow. The formula includes a brightening glow gel to give skin a a glowing translucency that plays with light.
3. Too Faced Tutti Frutti - Pineapple Paradise Strobing Bronzer Highlighting Duo - $30 This super silky bronzer and highlighting duo features the basics but everything you need in the perfect shades for summer. This palette contains the prettiest velvet bronzer and glimmer highlighter that can be used alone, layered or of course, mixed together to create a custom, lit-from-within bronze. I like the subtle pineapple scent, too.
4. Guerlain Terracotta Sun Trio Bronzing Contour Palette - $54 This is a classic and one of my very favorites! My first luxury bronzer was a Guerlain bronzer and I believe that they do bronzers best; they give skin a true bronzed look. I love this trio palette, which comes in a Light, Natural or Deep shade, and how it looks so natural on the skin. The three shades are so natural on the face as they sculpt, bronze, and highlight.
5. Benefit Cheekleaders Bronze Squad Cheek Palette - $60 This five-pan palette is another blush, bronzer and highlighter palette with some iconic products and new beauties rolled into one palette. It features a golden pearl highlighter in the new shade Cookie plus the brand's iconic Hoola Matte Bronzer in a new medium-deep shade Caramel. Of course, they included the original shade as well. You can see everything in the palette here. All products are full-size, so it’s a great value if you normally buy the Benefit cheek products.
6. Physicians Formula Bronze Booster Highlight & Contour Palette - $15 This must-have palette has three universally-flattering shades in both blendable and buildable shimmer or matte finishes. If you haven’t tried a Physicians Formula Bronzer, then you are missing out; they are some of the softest and most beautiful ever. This palette features a bronzer plus two beautiful highlighters. They are designed to give skin a soft focus, radiant glow. There are two color families to choose from.
7. Bobbi Brown Take It To Glow Highlight & Bronzing Powder Palette - $59 This new four pan palette features all-wearable shades of softly-shimmering shades of bronzer and blush. The brand says they are all bronzers, but two are tinted pink and peach so they lean toward blush shades. The actual bronzing powder is matte, while the rest give a soft, beautiful radiant finish to the skin. The formula is super silky as it glides onto skin, and when layered or blended together, gives skin a soft focus, lit-from-within bronzed glow.
8. Smashbox The Cali Contour Kit - $39 Don’t let the name “contour” fool you; this six pan palette features California-inspired highlighter, bronzer and blush powders. These shades are all super blendable and very pigmented. The pigmentation is what sets this palette apart from most of the others in this post, and that is why it is as great for contouring as it is for bronzing. The shades are on the warm side and do give skin a bronzed look that is perfect for summer.
9. Clarins Bronzing Palette - $42 This limited edition summer collection palette contains a trio of matte tones that warm the skin with a gorgeous sun-kissed look of summer. The powders are pigmented, but are designed in a way so that you can control your bronzed glow — from a touch of tan to a look that's totally bronze. Clarins' uses their very own exclusive Light-Optimizing + Complex which blurs lines and imperfections so skin looks perfected while wearing.
You can use bronzer on your face, neck and décolletage. I often use a fluffy eyeshadow brush and apply a light dusting of eyeshadow to my eyes with a bit of highlighter on my brow bone for a beautiful summer, bronzed glow look. I just love that bronzer palettes offer a range of bronzer shades and products so I can get my summer bronzed look on quickly, easily and effortlessly.
Now, I am not one to over-do it on the glitter, except for when it comes to my nails, lips or sometimes on my eyes like the Shiny Pretty Shadows from this collection, but these products are smooth and glittery like only MAC can do.
May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month and I am all about prevention and awareness.
Be aware: UV exposure is the most preventable risk factor for skin cancer.
It’s a fact: More people are diagnosed with skin cancer each year in the U.S. than all other cancers combined.
With all the information out there and multiple studies, including a new somewhat alarming study about the safety of sunscreen, It's crucial for us to understand the truth about sunscreen, skin cancer prevention and detection.
The Truth About Sunscreen
I received some information from Dr. Darrel Rigel, MD, a world-renowned expert on skin cancer and a past president of the American Academy of Dermatology. Dr. Rigel is concerned that the study, which was published in the medical journal JAMA earlier this, is misleading.
Dr. Rigel said:
“We have always known that there is a very small amount of absorption of sunscreens in the bloodstream. But there is no data that this is a problem. Tens of millions of people use sunscreens in the U.S. every summer weekend for many years with no incidence. Daily use of a broad-spectrum SPF of at least 30 is the best way to protect yourself from skin cancer. For many people, the chemical formulations cited in the study are the only ones that feel cosmetically elegant enough to wear. Consumers should continue to use their preferred formulation if it means they will actually wear it."
With so many formulations available, there is absolutely no reason to be scared or more importantly, to stop using sunscreen. The FDA said that manufacturers need to further research the four ingredients highlighted in the study: avobenzone, oxybenzone, octocrylene, and ecamsule. The US Food and Drug Administration is also proposing new regulations on over-the-counter sunscreens in an effort to keep up with the latest scientific and safety information. We should be hearing about those soon.
There are a lot of sunscreens available and we have choices. There are sunscreens that avoid the chemicals mentioned, sunscreens that use minerals, and sunscreens that use both. You need to do what is right for you, and your body.
Some people can only tolerate one type of sunscreen and need to outweigh the risks and benefits of everything.
In South Florida and Hawaii, sunscreens containing oxybenzone and octinoxate are banned becasue of what those chemicals are doing to coral reefs. This may be true in other parts of the country and world, and please educate me if you have heard about this; I only know this for South Florida because I live there part time.
No matter what type of sunscreen you choose, there are some important sunscreen tips to keep in mind. sunscreen.
Always shake your sunscreen. No matter if it’s in a bottle, tube or can, shake it up first.
Apply sunscreen BEFORE heading into the sun. For best protection, initial sunscreen application should begin 15-30 minutes prior to sun exposure.
Use approximately a teaspoon amount of sunscreen on each body part. Yes! That’s a lot more than you think.
Reapply sunscreen every two hours; reapply more if you are in and out of the water, exercising and excessively sweating.
Top Sunscreen Recommendations
I always feel safe in wearing sunscreen from Supergoop!. I do use other sunscreen brands now and then, but I have come to rely on Supergoop! products more and more lately. Supergoop! is a brand that is purely dedicated to sunscreen and I like that.
The Supergoop! brand offers both chemical and mineral sunscreens. My face tolerates mineral sunscreens better, and the Supergoop! mineral formulas don’t leave that tell-tale white cast that you may equate mineral sunscreen formulas with. For my body though, I do like the chemical versions and I am not afraid to use them.
Consumer Reports recently rated over 80 sunscreens and have top sunscreen recommendations. They did a pretty thorough test that tested how sunscreen products perform after soaking in water. The top rated sunscreens according to Consumer Reports were:
Equate Sport Lotion SPF 50 - Walmart brand and just around $5 Pure Sun Defense Lotion SPF 50 - these are geared toward children, launched by Hugh Jackman; the tubes feature various characters; this is available at mass retailers like Target, Walmart and Amazon for around $6 Equate Ultra Protection Lotion SPF 50 - Walmart brand and just around $5 Trader Joe’s Sunscreen Spray SPF 50+ - Available at Trader Joe’s for $6 Equate Sport Continuous Spray SPF 30 - Walmart Brand; $9 for a 2-pack
Let’s Glow Lip Illuminators are made with reflective, ultra-filling light spheres to not only give lips that glow, but the formula contains nourishing sweet almond oil so lips stay hydrated while projecting high-impact shine. It’s so good.
There are only two shades (we can hope for more) and each are designed to complement both fair and deeper skin tones.
Sara’s pearl shade amps your lips with an ethereal, pinkish light, while the golden shade offers a dewy, bronzy glow.
I have been wearing them both, either alone or on top of other lipsticks.
The trick to giving lips the ultimate glow is to swipe the applicator across the very top of your cupids bow (in the center of your upper lip) to give it a highlight. Then simply dot a bit in the center of the bottom lip and blend out a bit. It is a gorgeous look, and as I said above, I am obsessed. They are as transforming as they are highlighting and illuminating.
It’s time to honor that Mother figure in your life, whomever she is. In case you haven’t checked the calendar, Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 12th.
There are so many great gifts to give a Mom, but I am going to concentrate of gifts of beauty, because here at Beautiful Makeup Search, we mainly focus on beauty — all the best makeup and skincare products with some haircare and the like thrown in here and there. I might as well stick to recommending what I know best, right?
I love receiving gifts of beauty, obviously, whether big of small, and my gift list is going to range in price. Whether your budget allows for a splurge or if you simply want to include a little something with a card, my list of 21 beauty gifts for Mother’s Day will have you covered.
I change my skincare products and regimen a bit each season. As the temperatures rise, it is important to adjust the products you use.
I have been slowly breaking out my summer skincare products and thought I would share what I have been incorporating into my skincare routine. Especially since the Sephora Beauty Insider Event is happening and I am stocking up (it’s the best time to stock up on everyday beauty essentials) now is the perfect time, don’t you think?
I am going to share both my morning and evening skincare routine and simply list the products that I am using now, in the order that I use them.
Yes, I test a lot of skincare products as I receive them, but this is the core skincare routine that I try to stick to.

It’s time to start talking summer makeup and I’m really excited because summer makeup is some of my favorite of the year.
First up is NARS summer collection and the makeup in this mini collection is subtle yet smoldering, as in it is designed to give you a warm, smoldering glow and I am all about it.
NARS Heat of the Night Summer 2019 Edit (that’s what they are calling it) features two new limited edition highlighting face palettes (each one has four shadows, a bronzer and highlighter) and a new lineup of Velvet Matte Lip Pencils and Satin Lip Pencil in warm shades that scream summer.
The first thing I noticed were the face palettes with patterned pans of product; they look like the dessert. As soon as I tried the products, though, I was blown away.
Each shadow and cheek product is so irresistibly creamy, yet they are all powder products — that is just how smooth the formula is. NARS is killing it with their formulations. They are pigmented and apply better than you would expect. Like I said, I was blown away. These are like an upgraded formula than what I am used to from NARS, which make a fantastic product anyway, but I can’t really describe how silky and creamy of a formula these are. I have applied with everything from brushes, to sponges to my fingertips and the results are beautiful, no matter how I apply.
With lip gloss making the biggest comeback this year, I was surprised that there are new matte shades in the lineup, but you can layer or use one of the new glosses on top. All shades coordinate beautifully with the palettes and are great for summer, as well. They are fairly neutral in tone, and if they have a lot of pigment in them, that color would be pink, rose or violet, and they lean more subtle.
I prefer the Satin Lip Pencils as they are all extremely wearable and really beautiful.
I love to sport a faux-glow, otherwise known as a self-tan or fake tan as soon as the weather turns warmer. Now that it is May, I have been self-tanning with a new self-tanner and in two words, it is a MUST HAVE for those of you that self-tan, too.
First thing is first, I am going to describe the Isle of Paradise Self Tanning Drops itself, then I will share which formula I am using (it’s obvious from the photo above), why I’d pick a different formula next time, how I am using the product after testing the drops a few times and my best advice on how to use them to get and maintain a beautiful, natural looking self-tan.
A bottle of custom-made self-tanning drops that allow you to control your glow.
Simply add these color-correcting Self Tanning Drops to your moisturizer for a natural, sunkissed glow with no streaks, smells, or orange tones. Isle of Paradise has combined a color corrective approach with a tanning-know-how to bring you your best glow ever—whether that's for the beach or brunch. All drops combine organic tanning actives with avocado, chia seed, and coconut oils for a happy, hydrated glow.
The peach drops are formulated with Oxy Glow™ complex, which is clinically proven to brighten your skin, the green drops are formulated with Super Balance™ complex to reduce redness, calm the skin, and improve your karma, and the violet drops are formulated with Hyper Violet™ complex to reduce orange/sallow tones and raise your tanning game.
Isle of Paradise’s products are made with color-correcting technologies to help even out skin tone for the most real looking, natural tan ever. This product is cruelty-free, 100 percent vegan, organic, and made using certified organic ingredients, actives at low pH levels, non-sensitizing ingredients, hypoallergenic ingredients, and pure oils. It does not contain mineral oils, petrolatum, gluten, GMO, or toxins.
As it explains, the drops are made to let you customize your self-tan, or glow. I selected the green drops, as I figured a medium tan would be a good place to start.
I bought the drops in person at Sephora, and the beauty advisor there, well, multiple advisors, suggested that I buy the violet drops. Looking at my skin tone and knowing that I usually color correct for redness, I decided to stick to my choice and buy the green drops.
The tanning drops are simple to use, You mix the drops into any moisturizer that you have. For my face, I mixed them into the night cream that I have been using, and for my body, I mixed them into this lotion.
It took a bit of trial and error to get “my formula” just right, but from prior self-tanning experience, I knew that I needed to apply with a self tanning mitt, to clean, exfoliated skin, and to apply it three times, about twelve hours apart.
I basically applied at night, the next morning and then again that evening.
So my self-tanning routine goes something like this:
Exfoliate - Saturday in the shower, moisturize Moisturize - Sunday morning as usual First application - Sunday evening Second application - Monday morning Third application - Monday evening
I showered in between my first and second application, but not between my second and third, but I did not moisturize any more in between as moisturizer is applied with the drops. I have done this three times in a row routine with all of my self-tanning applications to get an even, long lasting result. I usually have to reapply to my face, every three days, then exfoliate again on Saturday and reapply on Sunday and Monday.
After trial and error, and to get the color that I like for me, I mixed the following; think of it as a recipe.
Face and neck with face moisturizer: 2 drops with the amount needed to cover face and neck Chest and top of back: 4 drops with 4 pumps of moisturizer Arms: 4 drops with 4 pumps of moisturizer Hands: 2 drops with 1 pumps of moisturizer, only on top AFTER washing hands, clean up with makeup wipe Stomach and back: 4 drops with 4 pumps of moisturizer Legs: I divided into top and bottom, and as I like my legs darker, I used 6 drops with 4 pumps of moisturizer
It is important to note that I used a self-tanning mitt, and I mixed it right in the palm of my hand, then applied the dollop onto the mitt. I tried mixing on the mitt, but too much of the drops absorbed into the mitt. This takes practice, and I wish I could figure out a way to mix on the mitt, or body part, but to ensure even application, I will continue to mix in the palm of my hand, wash my hands, then apply to my arms and top of my hands last. Cleaning up with a makeup wipe is very helpful.
The only thing that I will do different in the future is buy the violet drops. The color I get is pretty perfect, but I am using a lot of the drops, and I think I would use less, if not half if using a higher concentrated formula. I think that is where the beauty advisor where correct in guiding me in the direction of buying the violet drops in the first place.

With Mother’s Day around the corner, it is time to not only think about gifts and celebrating other Mother’s, it is the perfect time to think about pampering ourselves. I definitely plan on pampering myself this Mother’s Day.
For all that we do each and every day as caregivers (being a Mother or not), Mother’s Day is a reminder of the love and caring that goes into raising a family. It’s not easy. I am constantly caring for those around me and I am determined to pamper myself a bit as I am always pampering others.
This year I am indulging in some of my favorite Dove products. Have you tried the new Body Wash Mousse? I am OBSESSED with it! I have stocked up on all my favorites at Sam’s Club because who am I kidding… with a large family, I am always sharing my favorite Dove bath and body products. Buying them in larger bulk packs at Sam’s Club is a smart way to buy them and save.
I swear before one of my children runs to get in the shower, I hear them yell… “Mom, where is the Dove Body Wash?”. They know a good product once they’ve used it. With the Refresh & Renew Body Wash Collection from Sam’s Club, all the skin types in my household are pampered, but I want to talk about pampering myself and how I plan to do it this Mother’s Day.
Since Mother’s Day is on a Sunday and I like to practice a bit of self-care on Sunday evenings, I plan to extend that into a whole pampering spa night. I will be using some of the Dove products that I stock up on Sam’s Club.
I’ve been a longtime user of the Gentle Exfoliating Nourishing Body Wash to gently remove dead skin and I plan to use this all over. It is perfect this time of year to prep skin for summer. The Dove Exfoliating Body Polish takes exfoliating a step further, and I love using this on the driest parts of my body (though it can be used all over). I plan to give my legs and arms a good rub down with the Body Polish. The burst of velvety macadamia and rice milk fragrance is super soothing to my senses.
I just love rich lather and the scent of the Sweet Cream with Peony Body Wash, so I will be indulging in a bit of a double-cleanse as I soak in the tub. Did I mention that it smells so good? I use this one in the shower every chance I get!
Now, for my favorite new Dove product, the Body Wash Mousse, which I have been reaching for a lot. I plan to use this new product a bit differently for my pampering spa night routine. This rose oil infused mousse is what you would expect from a mousse; it’s nice and fluffy but maybe richer than you would expect. It is super creamy and once applied to the skin, and the rose scent is so beautiful. I like how it nourishing it is, so I have been shaving with it, and that’s how I plan to use it in my pampering routine.
You see, the rich lather is infused with skin-natural nutrients to nourish skin so it creates the perfect surface for shaving; skin is left looking healthy and feeling soft all day long.
I am also picking up extras of my Dove favorites from Sam’s Club and gifting some for Mother’s Day; I really think these make great gifts. I love gifting pampering and self-care to others. Don’t you think that’s a great idea?
I am stuffing a fluffy blanket, candle and a pretty mug plus my favorite Dove pampering products into a crate and giving them to some new Mom’s for Mother’s Day. Everyone deserves a night off and extra pampering.
