Trust me ladies, when they say it takes a village to raise a baby- they are right. And in my case, handling a start-up, running the house, managing a blog and being a new mom- I think it takes atleast 2 villages and my Amazon Echo Dot. So my two villages comprises of my mom, mom in law, husband, nanny, dad, and brother all of who take turns to babysit. But my real Santa’s little helper is my Amazon Echo Dot, that lets me function even when I have my hands full. I can let Alexa be the wizard in my life as she lets me voice control everything in the house!

My Echo Dot works seamlessly with smart lights, smart plugs, smart appliances and so much more. Right from playing the night time lullaby for Nirvaan (“Alexa, play the cuppycake song”), to helping me do things when I am feeding my newborn and my hands are tied (“Alexa, play Narcos on Netflix”) to reminding me when I have certain startup tasks I need to complete (“Alexa, remind me to call candidate 1 at 2 pm”) – I literally cannot function without my Echo Dot. My other favourite thing about it is that I can call whoever I want to hands free – and trust me, with a baby and a startup, your hands are always busy with something. So when something urgent comes up- like the first photo of Priyanka and Nick Jonas’s wedding which NEEDS to go on Instagram, and I am stuck managing diapers and feeds, I just say – “Alexa, call Akanksha” who answers me through her Echo Device and carries on the work.

My husband loves it for different reasons of course – He sits in one place and asks Alexa to control the room temperature (which we can never agree on), give her fancy instructions to play with the lighting. He has even set up ‘Routines’ to make movie night fun. All I hear is “Alexa, movie night!” and she switches on the TV, dims the lights and turns on the AC simultaneously. Besides this, anytime we argue over some fact he will always turn to the Echo Dot to prove he is right. I think the last thing we asked Alexa to settle between us was who won the last season of Masterchef Australia. Ofcourse, I was right – it was infact Diana Chan.

Overall, I love my little Amazon Echo Dot for making me much more productive, and giving me a bit of a breather in between all the madness.

Post Pregnancy Skin Care

The past few months with the pregnancy, I’ve laid low on the skincare front. Now that the baby is out and about though- I’m slowly but surely getting back to my routine especially at night. In fact, those few minutes at night are literally the only “ME” time I seem to get so it’s almost therapeutic for me – away from the spit ups and the diaper changes, and the sleepless nights – I indulge in a little spa for my face. (Also, once you have slept only four hours you need to take extra good care to ensure your skin doesn’t look dull and sallow).

My skincare routine

Anyway, so if you are familiar with my skincare routine you would know I double cleanse every night. It’s one thing that ensures I wake up with squeaky clean skin (well, that and healthy eating but let’s face it the former is easier to do :p). So when I heard about the FOREO LUNA 2, I knew I wanted to try it – I mean a facial cleansing brush that exfoliates, removes dead skin cells and also has anti ageing properties? Yes please!

FOREO LUNA 2 for Normal Skin

The FOREO LUNA 2 for Normal Skin

I chose the one for normal skin, and tried it with my favourite Kiehl’s Daily Facial cleanser. Basically you wet your face, apply cleanser to it, and then wet the LUNA 2. Once activated to your desired speed you spend around 15 seconds on each zone. The device will pause 3 times; this is when you know you are done.  First of- I expected this to feel harsher on the skin than it does. The bristles are actually silicon so they have this pulse like feeling rather than an abrasive scrub like feeling – but at the same time they do an absolutely incredible job of removing dead skin cells and exfoliating. No kidding, you will see the visible difference with your skin looking squeaky clean without vs. with this brush. I dislike abrasive scrubs and my dermatologist strictly warns me against them as well so something that feels gentle but is still powerful enough is more than welcome.

Use the LUNA 2, with any of your cleansers. I use the Kiehl’s Daily Face cleanser.

Cleansing with Anti Ageing. That’s wow!

The LUNA 2 also claims to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. The reverse side of the gadget is supposed to be used as an anti ageing device- it massages the face and I like using this with my serum. So I apply the serum to my face and to ensure my serum has penetrated into my skin, I use LUNA 2 to gently massage the serum into my skin for plump, soft skin.

Secret Santa for radiant skin

While the anti ageing claims can only be verified over extended usage, I can definitely say within a few days of using this that I definitely saw my skin look more awake and radiant the next morning. I know this because my mom looked at me and actually commented that I looked well rested for once :p. Also, major props for how easy it is to use- with a baby you can’t have extended skincare routines and this one literally takes a few seconds and swish, you are done. This one is definitely going to be part of my skincare routine and I know it’s going to go in my travel bag as well for when I need a quick refresher.

Skincare and baby care go hand in hand for a blogger :p

FOREO LUNA 2 for my squeaky clean skin

Where to buy LUNA 2

In India, LUNA 2 is available exclusively on Sephora stores and nnow.com. However, you can also spot LUNA 2 globally at duty-free airport stores and can also buy from foreo.com.

The baby has been sleeping the whole freaking day, and its got me a bit freaked out. Hurried googling and asking five friends later, I figured he is probably going through a growth spurt – so Im making use of this little window of free time to do a blog post that a bunch of you have been requesting. I’m a bit of a research nazi, so every time I make a baby purchase I do TONS of it and so far I have to say most of my baby purchases have been pretty useful!

What I’m using for Baby Toiletries

  • Mama Sparsh Water Wipes : These are 98% water and gentle on the skin.
  • Desitin Diaper Rash Cream + Aquaphor : I alternate between these two creams and they resolve diaper rash in a jiffy !
  • Sebamed Face Lotion
  • Mustela Body Lotion– Got this as a gift and its nice enough but Im not super fussed about body lotion- anything would do
  • Plain coconut oil for massage

Purchases for Feeding

  • H&M Nursing T shirts: I literally LIVE in these. My track bottoms , and nursing t shirts are the most comfy and practical combo
  • H&M Nursing bras: I didn’t get the proper nursing bras but these soft sports bra kinda nursing bras- I find them so comfy and theres no confusion on sizes since theyr stretchy etc
  • Medela Swing Breast Pump: One of my top 5 most useful purchases. I express milk on a daily basis and I don’t know what I would have done without my Medela. I got the single electric pump and I love it , but I think the double one is even better – just was super expensive.
  • Dr Brown Bottles: I love these bottles- theyr anti colic, and they dont cause nipple confusion (yes there is such a thing – google it)
  • Philips Avent Steriliser: What would I do without this little work of art. Sterilises my pump, bottles etc in a jiffy
  • Philips Bottle heater: Nice to have but not a must have. It takes a good 5-7  minutes for it to heat my milk bottle. I find it more convenient to just keep hot water in a thermos, then pour it into a utensil and put the bottle in it- quicker that way with a crying baby
  • Milton Thermos : MOST USEFUL PURCHASE. I know , like why is a thermos on my essentials list. You will use a thermos for EVERYTHING. If you formula feed, you will keep boiling water in it at night so that you have hot water in the middle of the night to mix with formula- if you breastfeed and express milk you will use it to warm your bottles.
  • Boppy Pillow: This is a feeding pillow my sister in law got from abroad- not only is it useful for feeding but also serves as a nice little pillow for propping up the little one.
  • Piles Tyre: This is an inflatable ring you can sit on. I originally got this so my stitches wouldn’t hurt when I sit but  now use it because my tailbone started aching like crazy with the breastfeeding – so it takes the pressure off my tailbone

Bathing purchases

  • Skiphop Moby Bathtub: Absolutely one of my favourite purchases so far. It was expensive, but I know I’m going to use it for atleast 2-3 years. It basically becomes a sling for a newborn, a semi sitting sling for a 3-4 month old and a bathtub for an older baby.
  • No more tears Johnsons Shampoo: Pretty standard and seems to work but my kid is getting some flakyness on his hair so any reccos are welcome

Clothing purchases

  • Carters on Firstcry has the cutest little things-specially their zip onesies are very convenient as compared to the button onesies
  • H&M does really nice things too but their sizes are too exact so they literally become small in two weeks time.
  • In general I prefer tops and bottoms I have realised as compared to onesies- they are so much more practical to remove and quickly check for poo inside a diaper

Baby Gear (Carriers/ Prams etc)

  • Boba 4g Carrier: If you plan on babywearing I highly reccomend you join the Babywearing India group on Facebook- they give you useful, practical advice on which are the best carriers. On the group people are fans of Soul Anoona, Kol Kol, ergobaby and more. I also love the Boba 4G which I got  from Amazon. Its been rated one of the top 4 carriers of 2018 -but it doesn’t support front facing front carry if that’s a huge parameter for you. Is also a more bulky carrier for a petite frame but super sturdy, super comfortable , egonomic and can be used right from newborn stage.
  • Chicco Cortina  Stroller and Car seat (Travel System) : This is a car seat and stroller travel system (A travel system is one where the car seat can be picked up and attached into the stroller itself). We got this and haven’t used it yet but its honestly one of the only travel systems available in India (outside of online Amazon) . Has a bunch of features – I would have bought Graco online on Amazon but assembling it itself and with lack of customer support in India I found it safer to buy this from the store itself
  • Motorola Baby Monitor : Could not have survived without this. This picks up the smallest of sounds and sometimes when Im in my room and the baby is in the nursery with the nanny, I can keep a watch on him at all times.

Baby Bedding

  • Cot (I got this as a hand me down from my sister which I have now repainted)
  • Baby Sleeping bag: This again was a hand me down but honestly its one of our most used items. My baby doesn’t like being swaddled and manages to free himself from his swaddle, but if we dont keep him enclosed he can kick his blanket etc off. So a sleeping bag is so useful as well as warm for keeping him warm and snuggled but still giving him space to move around. Love- mine is from Abracadabra
  • Baby Jalebi Bed in a Bag: I got this just cos I thought for travelling or if the baby is outside of the cot we would put him on this but the baby hates sleeping on it
  • Masilo Bedding set: Super soft muslin .
  • Bunch of fitted sheets from Amazon.
  • Cushions from Nevergrowup.kids on Instagram- so cute

Other stuff

  • Quick Dry Sheets: Quick dry is a company which manufactures these. You can get em off the quick dry website or amazon. They are modern versions of momjamas and right up there in my top 5  purchase list.  They basically have plastic on one end and normal sheet type on the other- so we use them every time we have to change the baby so that our beds dont get spoilt.
  • Tons of little hankies
  • Tummy Tuckers for me: Got one by Shopolica from Amazon (really good) and one from Clovia on Amazon (also good – more comfy than Shopolica but not as tucking )
  • Baby Gym: Super useful as a toy that can be used right from 3-4 weeks onwards uptil a good 6 months. They love it. I got mine from Fisher Price

Think that about covers it ? If I missed something let me know and Ill add it in

Who : Sharnamli Adhar

Profession : Co-Founder @thepinkpostinc

Instagram : @sharnamli

Sharnamli says, “When I came back to India after finishing my masters in the UK, we realized that there was a big dearth of good & affordable shopping options in our city. We just wanted to create a platform for young designers to showcase their amazing talent & products to the shoppers who were hungry for them. Thus, TPPI was created to bridge this very gap.

I believe that Beauty is in imperfections! In today’s day & age everyone is only searching to look “perfect” but imperfections make you real & truly beautiful so embrace them.

My skin type – Combination

Image via Northern Gloss

Daily morning skincare routine

  • In the Mornings I usually first wash my face with the Kama Ayurveda cleansing foam.
  • This step is followed by application of Brightening moisturiser & sunscreen by Keihl’s.
  • I like to stick to more natural & simpler products for the day so that my skin isn’t subjected to anything harsh.

Night time routine

  • As cliche as it sounds – always & always scrub your skin clean from any makeup from the day or a night out. I use the Bioderma make up remover to first cleanse the skin.
  • Followed by the Creme lavante facewash by Uriage to make sure the skin is squeaky clean.
  • I then use the Magic night cream by Charlotte Tilbury followed by the Estee lauder advanced night repair eye serum around the eyes.

My Favourite serums and masks

I’m big into masking these days so I usually apply a mask before a big event. Favourites would definitely be the au natural Forest essential sheet masks. I then ice my entire face to close all pores and plump the skin so it looks dewy & glowy. In terms of anti ageing products, I’m in love with the new range of Dior Capture Youth Serums which has targeted ones for all signs of anti ageing.”

Profession : YouTuber @MyHappinesz

My hair type : Straight

“I actually got my hair coloured pink first! I really loved the unicorn look and then I went for purple because it was great experimenting the first time. I got my hair coloured from NEU SALONZ, South Point Mall, Gurgaon. My stylist was Vasu and he did an amazing job! I would definitely recommend him to everyone.

Outfits with Purple hair : I do have to keep and pre-decide the colours of my outfits that’ll look good with coloured hair. White and black look amazing with Purple hair!!

My Hair Routine : I use Kérastase No sulphate shampoo and hair mask on a regular basis. These products help repair the damage my hair has undergone due to colouring. I don’t oil my hair that often because I have coloured hair but I do use coconut oil once in a while; that’s it, I don’t do much. The oil I use for Champi is Dabur Vatika Enriched Coconut Oil.”

Who : Madhulika Sharma

Profession : Model

Instagram : @madhulika1997

Madhulika says, “Modelling happened as an accident. I was scouted and the journey thereafter has blessed me with strength, grit and perseverance. I still consider myself a regular and confused college student, though.

My Skin Type : I have dry skin with an oily T-zone.

Morning Routine

Image via – Whoorl

My skincare routines are pretty simple with products that are easily available. On mornings when I am not shooting, I wash my face with Mridul from Kama Ayurveda. I love it since it’s a soap-free cleanser. I will then tone with Acnes (it’s a Japanese brand) and use my trusty, old Neutrogena oil-free moisturiser. If I’m heading out, I’ll always apply sunscreen over my face and neck and then use my absolute favourite product in the world – Olio E Osso coloured balms to highlight my cheeks, cheekbones and moisturize chapped lips.

Night time Routine

Image via – Nupur Munot

If I have any makeup, I’ll use a Kiko Milano makeup removal towelette to wipe makeup off. I then go onto using Seabuck Charcoal Foaming Face Wash. If the makeup was too heavy and I really want to go deep into cleaning my pores, I love to use the Vitamin C Microdermabrasion Scrub by The Body Shop. I’ll spritz a few sprays of Mogra water (Kama Ayurveda) on my face and then use 4-5 drops of the pimple-fighting serum by Mixify (ILoveUnloc on Instagram)

K-Beauty Favourite & Face Packs

Image via – Nourish the skin

I stumbled upon Korean beauty on one of my foreign trips and it’s one of the best investments I’ve made. Before an event or a big shoot day, I use my Holika Holika Gudetama Smooth Egg Peeling Gel. What it is: This gel is packed with natural egg yolks from Korea’s Mount Jiri, to tighten pores and peel away dead cells, sebum, blackheads, and whiteheads. After this, I’ll put on some gel eye-patches to de-puff the undereye area and then go onto moisturising and priming (PoreFessional by Benefit) before getting slammed up.

The only anti-ageing precautions I take now are using adequate sunscreen, eating well and swimming/running/cycling. On weekends, I’ll make my own homemade face packs with yoghurt, honey and raw turmeric paste. I love to play around with different ingredients but it’s important to research first. Which reminds me, you must check out Dwarpe for their fabulous line of dry muds, face packs and scrubs. All vegan and promotes social upliftment in the rural areas.”

The Low Down

Who : Komal Kapoor

Profession : Founder @kokoglam_india

Instagram : @komalkapoor0815

My Skin type : I wish there was a straight-jacketed answer for this! My skin type is funny- sometimes my T zone is really oily and other parts of my face are really dry. And in winters it is dry overall. I have to customize my skin care routine accordingly and I only use Korean products.

My journey with skin care started when acne entered my life during my teenage years. For a good 2-3 years I struggled with acne and even took to prescriptive medicines, but that only dried up my skin and I had to deal with redness, dehydration and a flaky texture. One common advice that I was given was to keep my skin dry to avoid acne, but when I dug a little deeper I came across the Korean skincare routine that believes in hydration for healthy skin. I tried it out and when I saw that it worked wonders, I was hooked! I have not looked back ever since.

Koko Glam is a reflection of my passion for healthy skin; skin that glows without makeup and makes one feel good about it. The idea is to achieve your own flawless skin state and to maintain it. There are many women who struggle with skin woes and it is my belief that Korean skincare has the answer for everyone. But finding what works best from a sea of Korean products can be daunting, and our goal is to curate the best products from Korea that we know will work for Indian skin and its struggles. All our products are pretested on real women and only when they pass do we open up the products for purchase on our website. We are passionate about imparting knowledge on skin types, skin concerns, ingredient glossaries, proper skincare routines etc. Koko Glam is your friend and mentor when it comes to complete skin care.

My AM Routine

  • My morning routine consists of a single cleanse with COSRX LOW PH GEL CLEANSER followed by the NEOGEN BIO-PEEL EXFOLIATING PADS IN LEMON (I am a big fan of this!), which I use twice a week.
  • Then I apply the aha/bha clarifying toner followed by Skinfood Yuja Water C serum after which I use Cosrx aloe oil free moisture cream.
  • Next is Mizon snail repair eye cream. Then I lock all the nutrients in with loads of sunscreen. The Neogen SPF 50+++ is my favourite!
  • When I am on my menstruation, I switch to SkinFood tea tree toner and emulsion in place of a moisturizerer.

My PM Routine
It might sound like a long process but once you get the hang of it, these night time skin care rituals are easy and manageable within a short span of time. Night time is when your skin repairs itself making it essential to give it all the nutrients it needs.
  • Banila co clean it Zero cleansing balm in Purity
  • Cosrx low ph gentle daily cleanser
  • Klavuu special care pearlsation glow mask (twice a week)
  • Skinfood tea tree toner
  • Skinfood yuja water c serum
  • Sheet masking
  • Mizon snail repair eye cream
  • Laneige water sleeping mask
  • Laneige lip sleeping mask

Image via Dubhe Joy

The Laneige water sleeping mask a night before followed by Klavuu special care glow mask is my go to beauty routine before any big event or function. Simple things on an everyday basis bring about a big difference to skin. I swear by the following:

  • Hydration. Skin health depends on this.
  • SUNSCREEN. Even when it is a cloudy day.
  • Proper and consistent skincare routine.
  • No cigarettes.

It’s getting kinda crowded

Andd.. its getting kinda uncomfortable now. I cant really get up from the bed without a full struggle, groan and grunt and changing sides is as difficult as lifting a hippopotamus. Not that I have tried lifting one, but it sure feels like that . My one respite- Iv started watching “This is Us” on Netflix and I can just so relate because a large part of season 1 is governed by Mandy Moore’s pregnancy and even though she had triplets and Im having just one little kiddo, so much of the stuff on that sitcom I can relate to. Like her mood swings, and just discomfort and what not.

Maternity shoot- done

So, If you follow me on Instagram  you would have seen that maternity shoots are not my thing. I mean, the ones I usually saw online- with gowns and florals and getting dressed up. Somehow I just couldn’t imagine myself capturing this phase of my life as being super dressed up in a fancy shoot. They look gorgeous don’t get me wrong but thye are not for me. So we did our own version of a maternity shoot recently , and it turned out exactly as I was hoping. Cosy, comfortable , natural and just me ! Ill share those pictures after some time once Im ready, as some of them are really private. I didn’t get makeup done honestly and even my hair was just it’s usual self. I actually didn’t even buy new outfits for the shoot which if you know me, is very surprising.

Maternity Shoot Photographers in India

Here are some you should be referring too –

Rules . There are no rules anymore

You know how you start off your pregnancy following all the rules about not drinking coke and not doing abc and yada yada yada. Welllll by the time you are at my stage, you pretty much give up on those damn rules. Home stretch- you have got to take advantage right? Okay, I know I know you have got to be careful still but seriously Im at my wits end right now and the one thing that can help unfrazzle me is something I cant have- a glass of wine. (Actually technically, yr allowed a glass of wine but you know how it is in India…)

Few purchases made recently

  • Quick Dry Sheets (Please get these guys . They are like mattress protectors on one side but like soft sheets on the other. New age options for traditional ‘momjama’ . I think you should be able to find them on Amazon- just search quick dry . I suggest you get a bunch of them to use as changing pads.)
  • Baby Carrier: I now have two baby carriers – One by Kol Kol which was gifted and I had already bought the BOBA 4G carrier which has amazing reviews . (I was also considering getting the Ergobaby one in the middle but both this one and BOBA had equally good reviews. The Ergo 360 is probably better in terms of if you want to make your baby face outwards but then its downside is you have to buy an infant insert seperately for newborns and for the climate here its a bit hot)
  • Also, I have now bought EVERYTHING on my hospital and newborn checklist
  • Skiphop Moby tub: Thanks guys for reccomending the most expensive options always :p . Anytime I turn to you guys for reccos you guys literally give me the fanciest option , and I oblige but so many people told me to get this that I couldn’t NOT get it. It’s actually really cute and useful and you can take your baby from newborn stage to toddler stage in it.
My Favourite Brands for Nursery Decor

The nursery has been really REALLY slowly coming along. But its getting there. As promised, Ill do a full reveal on my Instagram once ready But heres my list for nice brands for nursery decor & bedding

Iv also got a cupboard customised for myself for the nursery which has little racks for baby clothes, it had drawers and it has shelving and its a really useful, practical design for everything. I got it done from my brothers company- Studio Bipolar

Iv given up trying to think of names

So the thing about not knowing you have a boy or a girl is – you have to make two lists for everything. Specially names , and while I love some names – everytime I bring them up eight people have  different thoughts on the name and noone seems to love any  so now Im just like – Forget it. Let the baby come, Im going to say my 3-4 names to him/ her and wherever he/ she responds thats its name. Unless the baby responds to a name I dont really love – then it doesn’t count. Cos…mommy rights.

I visited an alternate hospital and OMG

So remember how my doc was on leave ? Well I got freaked out cos she was on leave for a good 6 weeks and I needed a backup. So I visited a new hospital- CK Birla in Gurgaon and I kinda fell in love. They have facilities of water birthing, doulas, they even have that pain relief gas for deliveries which ensures you can have a more comfortable delivery even without epidurals. Their labour room is gorgeous with birthing balls , a full bay window and lots of natural light . Sigh so fancy. But then my current doctor did come back, and even though my current hospital is not as fancy as CK Birla – I do blindly trust my current doc and I just thought in the fight between hospital and doctor, I would choose the doctor Im already comfortable with. But now that Im so close to delivery , labour thoughts are freaking me out – liek is it really as bad as they make it out to me. Eeeeeep I dont know Im scared.

Of course you do, you’re reading P&B after all :) We just found a place that has both and that’s Gazal Gupta’s new store in Mehrauli (Opposite Qutub Minar). We spoke to Nanaki Singh from Project Co that made all of this possible and she was more than happy to walk us through all the wonderful elements in the showroom. Let’s take a peek inside.

The IDEA

Nanaki says, “The underlying brief was to keep the interiors beautiful and carefully detailed but not loud so as to ensure we don’t draw attention away from the intricate embroidery and vibrant colours which are her signature style. The concept was developed by my mother Shabnam Singh (Co founder of Project Co) with inputs from Gazal. As a designer herself, it was easy for us to synergise our aesthetics as Gazal had a clear idea about the things she liked.

We developed a concept to maintain a “restoration vibe” to juxtapose the luxury and opulence of the clothes against exposed ceilings, old mirrors (we have even reused some that were in her earlier showroom), simple concrete flooring and a widespread use of recycled wood. We like to use the term “eco-chic” as a fitting description of the interiors of the showroom as it has been our constant endeavour to ensure that the greenery is a natural extension of the interior and exterior spaces. Arched windows at the head of the showroom and floor to ceiling windows around the courtyard allow natural light to fill up the store.

Project Co is a turnkey design company. We do everything from conceptualisation to execution. To this end most of the elements were designed and produced by our talented team.
We were also conscious about the “eco-chic” part of our design and attempted to refurbish a lot of the furniture and accessories that Gazal had in her previous store, adding our own creativity to this. For instance the huge boat planter that lies in the courtyard used to be a light feature/element in Gazal’s previous boutique- we decided to re-purpose it as a beautiful, unique planter.

We also attempted to work with the available surroundings as the space was executed with a great time restriction. The pillars that demarcated the extent of her previous boutique before the expansion are clad with reclaimed wood and interspaced with colour on colour (white on white) peacock motifs. (the peacock is an animal/bird close to Gazal’s heart and also reflected in some of her seasonal collections)

THE COUTURE NURSERY

We met Gazal Gupta while we were participating in the Akshay Pratishthan Mela earlier this year. Our story started with her purchasing a few planters from us. We went on to develop a “couture nursery” concept within her showroom- the first of its kind! All the plants and planter concepts seen within the showroom are for sale. It is our endeavour to provide people with an eco-friendly gifting alternative to a flower bouquet. Our plants are grown in our in-house nursery in Sainik Farm (where are office also is!) and our planters are sourced both locally and as well on our travels across the world. Worthy of mention is our Indonesian Hand-Blown Glass Planter range- each of these dramatic planters is unique, no two pieces are exactly the same.

We have used wood, glass and metal as the main mediums for the planters in an attempt to align with interior aesthetics of the showroom. We have however thrown in a few quirky elements (resplendent of my mother, Shabnam Singh’s style) for eg: our Motor Oil planter. (this particular planter comes from our manufacturer in Jaipur) While sections of our glass range are sourced from parts of Thailand.

THE COURTYARD

One pivotal part of the design brief that we all concurred upon was to not cut any trees! Therefore we developed an atrium/courtyard (open to the sky) concept. The carved backlit “jaali” in the courtyard is beautifully offset by the watertap side table next to the cash counter- shedding light upon Project Co’s ability to balance beauty with a few “statement”/ quirky pieces. The courtyard is undoubtedly my favorite corner of the boutique. Its visible from most parts of the space and draws your attention as soon as you enter. Within all the chaos of the city and the traffic outside it provides a lush green respite and adds depth and character to the showroom. Also, the fact that there was a tree obstructing the centre of the showroom and we were able to build our design around it without any harm to nature is definitely an important factor as well.

THE PERSONAL OFFICE

Gazal needed a small personal office space- this is another favorite corner in the boutique. Its separated from the rest of the showroom with a driftwood panel to provide a little privacy while still remaining connected to the rest of the space. We fashioned two large planters with a slab of driftwood into a table which definitely becomes a talking point in the space.”
