JAMBO from Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge!

Greetings from Animal Kingdom Lodge!

We’re checking out all the latest eats and activities in this beautiful Deluxe Resort. And we have a few friends along for the ride…

Kidani Savanna

Kidani Savanna

Here we go!

Jiko – The Cooking Place

You’ll find some new items on the menu if a visit to Jiko —  The Cooking Place is in your future.

Jiko

As the Lodge’s Signature Restaurant, seasonal changes are always in store for the menu. And these currently include a new Spice Route-inspired Squash Soup and Mushroom Flatbread under the Appetizers, and Cocoa Crusted Bison for a new Entrée.

Current Jiko Menu

These take the place of the Pear and Watermelon Salad, Green Tomato Gazpacho, Heirloom Tomato Flatbread, Snake River Wagyu Strip Loin, and Durham Ranch Elk Loin. Note that Wagyu is also not currently listed as part of the Macaroni and Cheese enhancements.

The Mara

We’re focusing on the sweet stuff, though, at Animal Kingdom Lodge’s Counter Service restaurant, The Mara! On our visit, we were surprised to see that Minnie’s Cherry Cordial Cupcake was still available well after Valentine’s Day (the day it was scheduled to end as an offering).

Minnie’s Cherry Cordial Cupcake

Since we’re not certain how much longer it will be available, let’s focus on the beautiful African Violet Cupcake!

African Violet Cupcake

And the Rock the Dots Cupcake in honor of fashionista Minnie Mouse is still holding strong!

Rock the Dots Cupcake

Uzima Springs Pool Bar

If you’re lounging by the Uzima Springs Pool, you may want to grab a bite to eat at the Uzima Springs Pool Bar to fuel up for… more relaxing !

Uzima Springs Pool Bar

Though food isn’t consistently available, you will often find some selections during busier seasons like this week. (So if you’re planning to visit during the upcoming Spring Break time, take note!)

Uzima Pool Bar Menu

Entrees tend to mimic what you’ll find inside The Mara, so a Black Angus Cheeseburger, Chicken Breast Nuggets, and a Pepperoni Flatbread are among the offerings.

Resort Activities

Though Wild About Painting is not a new experience at Animal Kingdom Lodge, we did spot something new on the sign for this extra-cost activity this week.

Wild About Painting

The complimentary drink that guests enjoy during the class is now named on the sign: it’s a Jungle Juice Mimosa! Cheers!

Remember when Dockside Diner (back when it was, you know, Min & Bill’s Dockside Diner) in Hollywood Studios served super awesome Seasonal Milkshakes like the Cinnamon Sweet Churro Milkshake, the Black Forest Milkshake, the Blue Milk Shake (‘cuz Star Wars), and more?

Dockside Diner

Well, we’re happy to say that fun seasonal flavors are back, and they’re starting with the debut of the Cookie Milkshake!

Cookie Milkshake

Now, before we dig (or sip) in, we should mention… “Seasonal” Shakes have been listed on the menu for much of the time even since the Blue Milk Shake left. (You can see the Shakes listed under the S’mores Brownie in the menu pic below.)

Dockside Diner Menu

But that “Seasonal” flavor has typically been a fine-but-not-too-exciting Strawberry or Chocolate Shake (save for a Pumpkin Shake for a few days over the holidays). But following Shakes like the Caramel Apple Shake… well, those were kind of a bummer.

But let’s take a look at the current Seasonal Shake, the Cookie Milkshake.

Cookie Milkshake

By the name, we expected your typical cookies-and-cream Oreo-style shake. But, nope!

Cookie Milkshake

This one’s topped — AND blended — with actual chocolate chip cookie crumbles with a vanilla shake base! Oh, and there’s some whipped cream on there, too .

Cookie Milkshake

Why not have your cookies and milk all-in-one, after all? Over-the-top, unique, cool, and delicious. THIS is what we remember from Dockside Diner! And in speaking with a Cast Member we learned that they’re hoping to incorporate more fun flavors in the future. So we’ll be keeping an eye out for you!

In the meantime, CHEERS to you, Dockside Diner!

Cookie Milkshake

(And to you, Min & Bill. We miss ya!)

Helllllllllllo from Disney Springs! We are bringing you a review from one of the most popular spots to grab a light bite and cocktail, Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar! We discovered they had some new items join the line-up recently, and we had to swing by to try them out!

Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar

First up, we had to sample some of the seasonal libations. The bartender let us know the Old-Fashioned and the Florida Mule tend to stay on the menu, however the top two are swapped out every month or so.

Seasonal Libations Menu

The bartender also let us know that the Old-fashioned is fantastic and made with that exclusive-to-Disney-World bourbon. She sold us! We opted for Jock’s Old-Fashioned and the French 75.

The French 75 is made of Hangar 1 Vodka, St. Germaine, Prosecco, and a lime. This is a pretty good drink if you’re a Prosecco fan and want something bubbly. It’s not a super-sweet drink, which I loved, but if you prefer sweet drinks, there are several rum and juice based cocktails here that will be a better fit. Overall, I would absolutely grab this again, especially on a hot day when I need those refreshing bubbles.

Jock’s Old-Fashioned and French 75

Next up, the Jock’s Old Fashioned. No you’re not seeing things, this glass is sliding sideways! This cocktail is made of Knob Creek Disney Select 120 Proof Bourbon, Cointreau Orange Liqueur, Aromatic Bitters, Orange Bitters, Simple Syrup, and Soda Water.

Jock’s Old Fashioned

I am so glad we took the bartender’s advice on this one – this was truly an awesome Old-fashioned. You could definitely taste that Select Bourbon, but it’s balanced nicely by the not-too-sweet syrup and Cointreau. Honestly, I wish all Disney Old-Fashioneds tasted like this.

Disney Select Bourbon

Now that we’ve sampled some delicious cocktails, it’s time to test out the new eats!

Jock Lindsey’s New Food

While old classics like the pretzel and sliders remain steady on the menu, we opted for some of the new items! We tried the Lomo Saltado – Peruvian Flank Steak, Shisahk Seared Cheese, and Chen’s BBQ Pork Skewers.

Peruvian Flank Steak

First up, the Lomo Saltado – Peruvian Flank Steak. Other variations of this item have been on the menu in the past, but this is a new iteration. This version is Grilled Flank Steak and Piquillo Peppers, with Pickled Onions, Crispy Potatoes, and comes with a Tamari-Lime dressing and Yellow Pepper Aioli as well as a fresh lime to squeeze on top.

Flank Steak Close-up

This was pretty decent! The meat was cooked well, and the pickled vegetables balance it nicely. They aren’t too vinegar-y either! The crispy potatoes add an awesome crunch, but not much flavor. Definitely squeeze that fresh lime on top to elevate the dish! Overall, this is a good shareable (or light meal for one) that I would try again.

Shishak Seared Cheese

We then moved to Shishak Seared Cheese. This dish is Warm Halloumi Cheese, served with a salad made of Mediterranean Tomato, Cucumber, and Pita Chips.

Seared Cheese Close-up

As far as vegetarian options go, this is an excellent choice. It’s certainly a little different, and obviously much lighter, than other popular vegetarian dishes like pastas or pretzels. The salad was crisp and fresh, and the pita chips added an awesome crunch. The cheese itself doesn’t have a ton of flavor, if anything it’s a bit salty on its own. But paired with a marinated tomato and cucumber, it’s a refreshing dish when you’re in the mood for something lighter (vegetarian or not).

Chen’s BBQ Pork Skewers

Lastly, we tried Chen’s BBQ Pork Skewers. This is Grilled Pork Belly in Gojuchang Pepper Sauce, and served with Pickled Vegetables, Cilantro, and Bibb Lettuce. It also comes with a spicy dipping sauce.

BBQ Pork Belly Close-up

The idea of the dish is to make little “tacos” with the pork belly and bibb lettuce. Honestly, I thought this would be my least favorite of the dishes, but SURPRISE! It was my favorite, hands down. The pork belly was cooked perfectly and the pepper sauce adds a lot of flavor but not a huge kick. The dipping sauce however, does pack some heat – in a good way! It’s hot, but still has great flavor, as opposed to being hot for hot’s sake. Overall, this was a fun and unique dish, that I would certainly order again.

Once again, the food and drinks at Hangar Bar are winners. The cocktails always seem to deliver, and I’ll certainly be back for that Old-fashioned. The bites are unique, and these choices are great for when you want something delicious and packed with flavor, but also a little lighter. There’s a reason Jock’s ranks high as one of our favorite lounges in Walt Disney World!

As Epcot’s Festival of the Arts prepares to close on February 25 signs the Flower and Garden Festival opening on March 6 are popping up! Our latest visit to Epcot saw some Flower and Garden food booths and topiaries being set up. But, that isn’t all, we also saw some construction progress, new merchandise, and some awesome chalk art!

Hello from Epcot!

We’ll start out with some Festival of the Arts chalk art — and deals!

What’s New with Epcot’s Festival of the Arts

This piece of chalk art is one of the many reasons we love the Festival of the Arts. It feels like this is a scene from the movie Ratatouille brought to life! Check out Remy making that ratatouille!

Epcot Festival of the Arts Ratatouille Chalk Art

If you’ll be in Epcot for the Festival of the Arts this weekend you may find some “swell” deals like this Festival baseball hat — it was originally $27.99, now it is $15.00.

The Flower and Garden Festival opens on March 6 (we’ll be there LIVE covering opening day), and we are already seeing some of the food booths, or Outdoor Kitchens as they are called during this Festival, getting set up!

If seeing this Outdoor Kitchen makes you hungry be sure to click here to read all of the 2019 Epcot Flower and Garden Festival Food Booth Menus.

In addition to food, another highlight of the Flower and Garden Festival are the topiaries dotted all around the park. Some of the more playful looking topiaries have already been put out on display in China!

Epcot Flower and Garden Festival Panda Topiaries in China Pavilion

Look at these pandas! We can’t get enough of them!

Epcot Flower and Garden Festival Panda Topiaries in China Pavilion

In the American Adventure pavilion they are setting up some of the structural support for the topiary going near the Outdoor Kitchen. In the past this has been home to Woody and the gang from Toy Story. We will see if they make this their home again as they celebrate their upcoming Toy Story 4 film.

What’s New in Epcot’s Future World

The Future World Hot Dog Cart is now selling Mickey Pretzels (with plastic cheese).

We also spotted a disappearance in this area. The cart that was selling a variety of pretzels and turkey legs is missing!

Future World Turkey Leg and Pretzel Cart — Where Are You?

Sunshine Seasons in The Land pavilion had UDI Muffins in the bakery section on the day we were visiting the park. They sold these a long time ago, we do not know if these muffins are making a permanent return or not.

Look what we see in the background — that oh-so-yummy seasonal mini-cake celebrating the Festival of the Arts! Be sure to read our review of this seasonal cake that made our Best of the Fest list!

The Get Your Ears On celebration is still in full swing at Disneyland Resort, and as with any Disneyland celebration, there are specialty churros! Today we’re venturing to the churro cart near Haunted Mansion for the Banana Pudding Churro!

Banana Pudding Churro

This churro has us a little conflicted. On the one hand, it tastes like a standard cinnamon/sugar churro — and that’s delicious. But it’s supposed to be a little banana-y, and we just didn’t get that at all.

Banana Pudding Churro

We previewed ALL the amazing Get Your Ears On treats at Disneyland! Click here to check them out!

The real hit of banana comes from the dipping ‘sauce’, which is really straight-up banana pudding. You love banana pudding: get this one! You’re on the fence about it? You’re not missing much if you pass.

Banana Pudding Dip

For us, this was a little strange. We didn’t love the pudding with the churro (or the pudding on its own, for that matter). And for $6.25, per the new pricing for specialty churros, it’s probably not worth the price.

Banana Pudding Churro

What’s your churro? Cinnamon Sugar? With a sauce? Specialty all the way? Let us know in the comments!

Disney’s Riviera Resort coming to Walt Disney World is currently accepting guest reservations for dates starting December 16, 2019. And we have more information today about what guests can expect to enjoy when it comes to the resort’s pools and additional features.

Disney’s Riviera Resort ©Disney

The feature pool will be the Riviera Pool, which will also present the S’il Vous Play interactive water play area featuring characters from Fantasia and inspired by the grand public fountains found in Europe. A “whimsical fountain” will be set within a patina and limestone-inspired design that will make up the area.

Riviera Pool ©Disney

Lounge chairs, colorful umbrellas, and even a stone turret slide will all come to gather to create the “relaxing feel of lounging around the Southern European coast where you can soak up the sun.” And a nearby movie lawn will offer family fun, too.

Though Riviera is the feature pool, the Beau Soleil leisure pool will be surrounded by a “natural, lush-green wall” to create a semi-private pool experience.

Beau Soleil leisure pool ©Disney

More details have also been revealed for Bar Riva, the open air pool bar “with a cool, seaside vibe.” Crisp white tiles, blue accents, and poolside views will set the scene along with refreshments and drinks which guests will also be able to enjoy on the nearby pool decks.

A waterfront promenade will allow guests to stroll around the resort while taking in the Riviera’s European-inspired landscapes.

Promenade and Skyliner Station ©Disney

The walkways will also lead guests, of course, to the resort’s Disney Skyliner Gondola Station providing transportation to Epcot or Caribbean Beach Resort and on to Disney’s Art of Animation, Pop Century, or Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Again, reservations are currently being accepted for Disney’s Riviera Resort for dates starting December 16, 2019, with the official opening date yet to be announced. We look forward to keeping you posted on all the details for this new Disney World resort!

You guys, sometimes a Disneyland churro is just a churro. And sometimes it’s a Get Your Ears On Fantasia Mickey Churro. And when that happens… it’s magic.

Fantasia Mickey Churro

Churros are always a part of Disneyland celebrations, but they’re not all winners, unfortunately. The Fantasia Mickey Churro is a sight to behold, coated in bright blue and red sugar (with edible star glitter!). Under that sugar, it’s a standard chocolate churro, though, so if you worry about funky flavor combos, you’ll be happy with this one!

Fantasia Mickey Churro

The dip is red-tinted marshmallow fluff, basically. Ours came with two yellow buttons (made out of white chocolate), but the signage says it’s supposed to be a Fantasia hat. Either way, the chocolate pieces are cute and thematic but overall don’t add anything to the churro.

Fantasia Mickey Churro

The flavor combination is great! Chocolate, marshmallow, and churro are clearly ready for the celebration!

Fantasia Mickey Churro

As churros go, this one is fairly straightforward in taste but totally rocks in appearance. So it’s both Insta-ready and something you’ll actually want to eat! Get yours at the churro cart near Big Thunder!

But Did You Notice? Churro Price Increase Alert!

Last month we saw specialty churros like this one for $5.25. But now, a basic churro is $4.75, churros released up until recently are $5.75, and NEW churros — like this Fantasia and the new Banana Pudding Churro — are $6.25! Y’all, it’s a churro challenge of the monetary kind!

We’ll keep updating you on the latest churro news! Stay tuned!

See ALL Our Reviews in One Place! Head over to our Get Your Ears On Disneyland Food Reviews page for all the goodness!

Are you in for the Fantasia Mickey Churro? Let us know what you think!
