Valid

We are super thankful whenever my husband gets a bonus from his job!  A bonus from work can be a reason to celebrate. But, before you rush out and spend it on something fun, you need to be smart.

While you can spend part of the bonus on something for yourself, the rest of the money should be used to help you be financially successful. Let’s look at how you should spend a bonus.

Budget Spending Money

Take 5-10% of the bonus and spend it on whatever you want. You should have some fun with the money you’ve earned. There’s nothing wrong with that. In fact, you should always give yourself some fun money as part of any income you earn. You work hard and if you never spend money on something for yourself, you’ll soon start to hate being financially smart.

Pay Off Debt

If you have debt, put the rest of the money toward paying off debt. You want to always put extra money toward debt. Ideally, you shouldn’t have any debt that can’t be paid off monthly. In other words, never charge more on a credit card than you can pay off when the bill comes each month.

Take Care of Repairs

If your home or car needs repairs, spend the bonus on getting the repairs done. It may not seem fun to put a new roof on your house, but you’ll be glad you did. You may also need to maintain your home or car. You may need new tires or need to get your home pressure washed. Be smart about how you spend your money.

Start an Emergency Fund

If you don’t have any debt, you want to make sure you have savings accounts. If you don’t have an emergency account, you need one. It is recommended that you have 3 to 6 months worth of expenses in the account. Should you lose your job or be unable to work, you’ll know that your expenses are covered.

Pay Ahead on Bills

Another great option is to pay ahead on bills. Instead of paying everything once a month, pay bills a year ahead. You can do this with many subscription services and may even save money by paying for a year at a time. Not to mention, it’s nice to just put money in the bank when you get paid and not worry about getting your bills paid each month.

Don’t spend a bonus frivolously. Be financially smart by paying off debt, getting repairs done, starting an emergency fund, or paying ahead on your bills.

Right now, you can download A Reason to Run (The Camdyn Series Book 1) Kindle book written by Christina Coryell for FREE from Amazon.

About the book:

All she wanted was to write a great love story — she had no idea she’d be writing her own.

Words rarely failed Camdyn Taylor. When life handed her complications, she buried herself in capturing them on paper and crafting a perfect narrative. The fact that her latest novel was currently sitting at the top of the bestseller lists let her know she had succeeded—not that anyone else noticed, since she hid behind a pen name.

It had been tempting to step away from the anonymity at times, but not on days like that one. Not when the humiliating video of Peter proposing was going viral and her name was spreading through peoples’ homes like wildfire. Her inclination to run felt justified, especially when she cloaked it with novel research. The change of scenery should offer the perfect quiet backdrop to finish the manuscript on time.

Of course, she hadn’t factored in an unintended clash with local bachelor Cole Parker. His charming smile and witty demeanor leave her intrigued, even though circumstances seem determined to keep him at arm’s length. Despite distractions, can the two of them find a common bond to tie everything together and construct the perfect story?

Please note: Kindle prices tend to change quickly, so be sure to check that the total still says $0.00 before you “purchase” it.  If you do accidentally purchase a Kindle book after the price has increased, you do have a short amount of time to request a refund from Amazon.

Between the FREE books from Amazon and Kindle books I've checked out from the library, I've been having so much fun reading on my iPad.  I really thought I wouldn't like not having a physical book, but I love it.

If you're interested in additional Kindle freebies, you can check out the current FREE Kindle books.

I remember watching the original Aladdin movie in theaters and loving it!  So, I'm excited about the new Disney live action remake of Aladdin coming out this week.  To celebrate, you can make these super cute Aladdin Oreos.  They're perfect for the movie and are easy to make.

Line a baking sheet with waxed paper.  Melt purple candy coating according to package directions. If the candy is too thick to pour, add 1 teaspoon coconut oil or vegetable shortening. Stir well. Do not add water. You can add up to 1 tablespoon of coconut oil per bag of candy wafers.

Dip each cookie into melted candy. Remove cookie, tapping gently against the side of the bowl, allowing excess candy to return to the bowl. If air bubbles form, pop them with a toothpick. Place the cookie onto the waxed paper. Allow to set completely before proceeding to the next step. To speed the process, cookies can be refrigerated or placed in the freezer in a single layer.

Melt the blue candy coating according to package directions. Transfer melted candy to a piping bag or zip top freezer bag with the corner snipped. Create a swirl on top of the cookies from the middle to the edge and add sprinkles.

Allow cookie to set completely at room temperature or refrigerate for faster results. Store in an airtight container at room temperature.

Right now, you can download Her Faithful Cowboy (A Steeple Ridge Romance Book 3) Kindle book written by Liz Isaacson for FREE from Amazon.

About the book:

HE'S STRONG AND STEADY. SHE'S LOST A CHILD. CAN THEY FIND LOVE?

Sam Buttars has spent the last decade making sure he and his brothers stay together. They've moved from farm to ranch back to a farm after the unexpected and tragic death of their parents. They've been at Steeple Ridge for a while now, but with the youngest married and happy, the siren's call to return to his parents' farm in Wyoming is loud in Sam's ears.

He'd just go if it weren't for beautiful Bonnie Sherman, who roped his heart the first time he saw her. Bonnie's got thick ties to Island Park as her four-year-old son is buried there. She finds herself at the cemetery more often than not, praying for peace, but as she starts to lean more on Sam, she wonders if she can leave Vermont and find a happier future somewhere else, with someone else.

Do Sam and Bonnie have the faith to find comfort in each other instead of in the people who've already passed?

I love to travel together with my family – even if we don't end up doing a whole lot.  It's so much fun to spend time together as a family outside of our normal routines. It’s nice to get away from everything for a while and just relax.

Unfortunately, traveling can be expensive. There’s transportation, accommodations, food, entertainment, and souvenirs. But what if you could travel more often? Let’s look at how to travel on a budget.

Cut Back BEFORE Traveling

People often think they need to eat cheap while traveling. What you really need to do is cut back BEFORE you travel. Start eating cheaper meals and eating at home as often as possible. Pack your lunch for work and skip those expensive coffees. This will give you more money for traveling and allow you to enjoy some great restaurants while doing so.

Compare Prices to Find the Best Deal

You want to take the time to compare prices through various sources. Try travel sites, contact hotels on your own, and see what offers a travel agency can give you. If you plan to check prices often, make sure to disable cookies. Airlines uses cookies to track your activity and may not show lower prices if you’ve searched the site before.

Pack Snacks and Drinks

You can save so much money packing snacks and drinks. Not only will you save money while on the road, but you’ll also save money in your hotel room. Convenience stores and vending machines can be outrageous. Hit your favorite grocery store or Walmart before hitting the road and stock up on your favorites.

When we take a road trip, we always pack a cooler full of water and soft drinks.  Plus, we usually pack lunch for the road and stop at a rest area to eat our first meal.  And of course, we have plenty of snacks available for both the car and the hotel.

Travel in the Off-Season

Another excellent time to travel on a budget is to travel in the off-season. For example, you’ll save money visiting the beach in late August through February because the temperatures are cooler and kids are in school. If you want to travel during the summer months, consider going to a location that is normally a cool-weather hot spot, such as Aspen, Colorado. The prices will be cheaper when snow isn’t on the ground and it will still be beautiful.

One summer, my dad rented a house for our entire extended family to spend a week in the mountains in New Mexico.  It was so beautiful, and it was nice to be there during the off season when it was not quite so busy too.

Plan a Trip with Another Family

Last, but not least, consider planning a trip with another family. You can rent a house rather than a hotel room and split the cost. You can also split the cost of driving to the destination – if you all fit in one vehicle. There are many ways to save when traveling together.

For many summers in Michigan, we'd plan a camping trip with a group of families from our church.  Some of us drove together and camped together, and we also split up meals among the entire group.  You were responsible for a breakfast and a dinner and got to relax the rest of the time.

If you want to travel, but are on a budget, look for small ways to save big. Pack your own snacks, compare prices, and consider traveling with another family. These are awesome ways to allow you to travel on a budget.

Right now, you can download Love & Redemption (The Florida Irish Book 1) Kindle book written by Suzanne D. Williams for FREE from Amazon.

About the book:

“Do you love me?”

He reformed her question, and her stomach knotted. Now, he asked too much of her.

“I asked you first,” she whispered. She swallowed her regret, a wall erecting between them. He wanted those words from her, but she couldn’t say them. For in saying those three words, she’d commit herself to this, to him, and that was the trouble.

She’d said the vows – to have and to hold, in sickness and in health, ‘til death do them part. She’d said them, though, with a gun at her back and a stranger’s hand in hers. By admitting she loved him, the words took on meaning and held requirements. It meant she’d stay by his side always and maybe never see her family again. She became responsible to him.

A tear rolled down her cheek. She swiped it away.

Michael cleared his throat. “I love you, Anne. My question is, why you don’t love me back?”

—–

Michael O’Fallen simply wants to survive. A poor Irish boy living in post-Civil War New York, the events of one horrible night send him running far south to unsettled Florida and an uncertain future. Promise-bound to a group of outlaws in an effort to escape his crime, their hidden plans for him loom sinister on the horizon. What is it he’s been brought here to do?

The oldest of her siblings, Anne Sawyer is the one her poor mama depends on. Her papa is harsh and abusive. He drinks too much and gambles away what little they have. Rumors that he’s lost their house come full circle the night the new owner comes to collect. Except, it seems what her papa gambled this time wasn’t the house at all, but her.

Carried into the darkness in a stranger’s grasp, she and he are forced to marry with a gun to their backs. But the many dangers they face in their tenuous marriage soon take second place to the darkness in his past. Darkness that might destroy them unless they look to heaven for love and redemption.

Book 1 of the Florida Irish Series by best-selling author, SUZANNE D. WILLIAMS. A novel.
