SEA Games gold medalist Nikko Huelgas with his TechnoMarine Shark watch

A defending, two-time gold medalist in the Southeast Asian Games triathlon, with a goal of being the best high-caliber athlete he can be –Nikko Huelgas is truly an inspiration to many. He is a shining example of how hard work, perseverance, and unwavering faith can go a long way in beating the odds.

As he tells it, Huelgas, who is also Chairman of the National Athlete’s Commission, used to panic before hitting the water. “When I was young, I had swim trauma,” he reveals, “I always had anxiety minutes before gun start during my swimming competition years.”

To overcome it, Huelgas came to the realization that fear is inevitable, and that staying focused on doing well by training hard was the only way forward: “Fear becomes the main reason why we become the best version of ourselves.”

And train well he did, driven by the desire to serve and represent the country as a National Athlete. “I prepare by fixing my schedule, creating a timeline breakdown,” he says, “That way, I can give my full attention to everything—it all starts with the mind—where I become a different person because I have a clear vision of what needs to be done.”

Huelgas has also learned to train smart, utilizing proper warm ups and stretching, meditating in the morning, eating right, and getting at least seven hours of sleep a day. After all, winning a triathlon entails a combination of physical fitness and the mental strength necessary to keep going at any cost.

“You have to enjoy your training sessions and respect your coach. Having a mentor you can work with, who can answer all your questions, is a big help too.”

In addition, having the proper equipment is also crucial, he says. For this, Huelgas can’t live without a proper aerodynamic bike, good suction swim goggles, high responsive run shoes and his TechnoMarine Shark watch—inspired and named after one of the fiercest predators found in our oceans.

Solane, the leading LPG solutions brand, launches its grandest culinary competition yet. Solane Kitchen Hero Chefs’ Edition is the first-ever cooking competition that aims to discover the next big name in the culinary world. This regional-to-national cooking tilt will go from north to south, and across 16 regional stops in the country to recognize a new generation of talented chefs.

The competition will comprise of two (2) rounds. Round one will be the regional competition where contestants from the different provinces per region will compete to determine who among them will represent their region in the national competition. Round two will be the semi-finals and grand finals where all regional champions will cook-off to find out who among them will be hailed the champion of Solane Kitchen Hero Chefs’ Edition. 


The culinary creations will be judged by renowned chef and Solane Kitchen Hero ambassador Chef Sau del Rosario and bestselling author and Solane Kitchen Hero competition director Nancy Reyes-Lumen. It will be based on the following criteria: 50% featured ingredients and 50% originality and creativity. The competition will conclude on September 7, 2019 at Eastwood City, Metro Manila.


The winner of Solane Kitchen Hero Chefs’ Edition will take home P100,000 and will embark on a culinary trip to Japan with customized stops at different food and drink destinations. This exciting cooking contest is made possible with the support of dynamic organizations and brands championing the same passion for cookery in the country. I have always thought of Korea in being very "extra". Their tourist spots are "Instagrammable", their cafes are themed, their beauty routine consists of ten to twelve steps. I could go on and on about them being way beyond our expectations, and recently, my favorite online skincare and beauty website, Althea Korea, does something extra for their k-beauty line, A'bloom. If there is a basic in Korean skincare, they are definitely the sheet masks. They are my go-to product when my face seems dull and dry. And trying the A'bloom skin masks makes your skin refreshed as it has a strong anti-oxidants while balancing with fruits as an ingredient.

The special ingredient in this variant is retinol, which normalize the skin turnover cycle and eliminates dead skin. It also has a tea tree extract that lessens dark spots and eliminates pores

Nourishing Avocado Mask (Php20)

From the name itself, the A'bloom Avocado Mask prevents aging and nourishes your skin. It is enriched with vitamin E tocopherol, which absorbs oil and shininess and provides elasticity to the skin. It is also mixed with hibiscus flower extract that contains Antocyanin, an antioxidant to prevent the skin from aging. 

 Brightening Lemon Lime Mask (Php20)

The lemon and lime contains high vitamin C ingredient to help repair and protect the skin from UV damage. When you use this variant, your skin will become clearer and you will achieve that transparent skin. This mask also contains green tea extract which is also rich in vitamin C ingredient to assist in controlling melanin production and skin care.

My Verdict: 
After using the masks, my face smells fruity but smoother at the same time. I also think that these masks are one of the most affordable ones in the market. Considering that it came from Korea, this is a good buy, especially during your hectic days. 

A'bloom BHA Blackhead Blaster (Php200)


Here in the Philippines, it is so easy to acquire blackheads. Since the weather is so humid, commuters like myself has that everyday problem. But thanks tos  Korea skincare, the A’bloom BHA Blackhead Blaster is a lifesaver!

This product is easy to use. First,  you should dampen your skin and apply the stick directly on targeted areas and massage in circular motions for 30 seconds. After doing that, rinse off the product with water. It is an easy and  quick triple treatment for blackheads, whiteheads and dead skin. 

The Blackhead Blaster has natural BHA ingredient that helps to deep pore cleanse by exfoliating the dead skin cells. My Verdict:

You can use these cuties in two ways - get moist and glossy skin when the puff is soaked in water, while achieving matte and flawless skin when used dry. They are made out of non-latex sponge with hydrophilic properties that will grow 1.5 times bigger than normal size when soaked with water. This  allows makeup to be applied perfectly on the skin

Baby Meringue Puffs (Php140/ 3pcs)



 you apply makeup with detailed edges. Although it is inspired by baking meringue cookies, its pointed tips gives your a fine and detailed makeup application on small surface of the skin. These products are small but terrible. 

Giant Meringue Puff (Php100)

My Verdict: 

I love how soft the material is. It also very flexible to use and does not tear easily.

CASHLESS 'BAKASYON'. A traveler pays for his meals using PayMaya QR at Sunny Side Cafe, one of the most popular food establishments in Boracay. PayMaya is expanding Boracay's cashless ecosystem to provide travelers a quick, safe, and convenient way to pay for goods and service all around the island. 

Leading the charge in increasing the adoption of “cashless” payment systems all around the country, PayMaya further expanded the mobile payment ecosystem in Boracay in time for the summer through PayMaya QR.


Beach-goers around the recently re-opened island popular for its white-sand beaches can now pay using only their mobile phones in hundreds of merchants all across Boracay, ranging from food establishments, hotel and accommodations, merchandise, micro-sellers, and even transportation, among many others. 

“As we’ve noted early this year, PayMaya is increasingly becoming the preferred mode of payment for travelers. This is on top of the initial batch of merchants that have been offering PayMaya QR as a payment method in Hue Hotels and Resorts as well as small merchants in Station X, which was launched in January of 2018, including other nationwide key merchants such as McDonald's, Army Navy, Yellow Cab, Shakey's, and Mercury Drug, among others.

At the same time, vacationers can add money to their accounts through specially-designated Add Money kiosks around the island, as well as via Palawan Express branches within Boracay. Additionally, they can add money to their accounts even before flying to Boracay through their online banking accounts via Instapay. 

Boosting Boracay’s economy through mobile payments 

The initiative is seen to further boost the tourism industry and the local economy in Boracay, which was just recently re-opened following a six-month closure for rehabilitation by the government. 

It also follows PayMaya’s establishment of similar “cashless communities” all around the country–including in areas such as La Union, Baguio, Cebu, and General Santos, among others–as it leads the country toward adopting mobile and digital ways of transacting for their everyday needs. 

By establishing a mobile-based cashless ecosystem in the island, commerce is expected to flow more smoothly and help reduce the friction and risk of paying via cash–all consumers would need is their mobile phones in order to pay for their purchases.
