A recent Microsoft demo presentation describes how to create a new Teams Site “modern” page using an existing “classic” SharePoint page. The demo was the first in a series of Microsoft videos prefacing the SharePoint Conference event, which will take place in Las Vegas in May. Back in the old days of SharePoint, you could save a whole site as a template, and any workflows that were on that site, were automatically part of the template. So, sites that were created from that template then automatically had the workflows included. Now, “Site Designs” are the new way of creating a sort of site template in SharePoint Online, and Microsoft Flow is the new way of doing workflows. Flows aren’t really a part of a site like old workflows used to be, so Flows aren’t automatically going to be included.

Microsoft Forms can be used to quickly create a form that anyone in your organization can fill out, then a Flow can be created to pick up the responses, write them to a SharePoint list, and then send approval emails to multiple people to approve / or deny the request. Flow can then update the SharePoint list with the results as well as emailing back the original Form submitter with the result.

An upcoming change to SharePoint Online will effectively push some organizations away from the earlier “classic” user interface (UI) and toward Microsoft’s so-called “modern” UI for Lists and Libraries. Microsoft is planning to make this change only for organizations using the classic UI that have “opted out of modern lists via the tenant setting.” These organizations will be “automatically shifted” to the modern UI setting.
