Travelling around SE Asia has taught me some valuable lessons. The thinking of some back home is that if you make yourself more visible and ride defensive that will go a long way to you having a ‘safe ride’. I used to subscribe to this and wrote a lengthy article some years ago on all things I could find that made riders more visible and their effectiveness as measure by studies. I don’t believe

My search continues and I have arrived at a different solution for my onboard motorcycle photos, a device called a lens only camera. I’ve tried a few action cams, the Polaroid Cube, GoPro Hero 5 session, a GoPro Hero clone. They all produced excellent video but poor stills. As far as I can see the actions cams do not actually take photos – what they produce is a screen grab from their video. This

Whilst the Philippines is known for its 7000 islands, to the north of the capital Manila lies a large mountainous area offering some great riding. If you have some spare time I’ll tell you a little about riding there. After my motorcycle ride in Sri Lanka I flew to Philippines to visit my mate who retired there a few years ago and spent awhile relaxing, playing billiards and drinking too much

How my mind wanders. When I was in Vang Vieng the clock in my hotel was broken (amongst other things) so before leaving I adjusted the hands on the clock to read 8.15am. The time clocks stopped in Hiroshima the morning August 6th 1945.8.15am. That’s the time it has always been... BlogX2

Motorcycle Paradise has been included in the Top 100 motorcycle blogs at Feedspot which is delightful since I basically do no promotion of the blog. Naturally I have social media pages for it but looking at the traffic almost every reader lands here from a Google search which I suppose is a good thing in it’s own way. This site is my journal, my photo album and an archive of information to assist

Originally this was to be a ride in Oman. To get there I noted that I could do so cheaply via Sri Lanka so the idea to ride there on the way formed. The Oman ride unfortunately could not proceed. The one and only motorcycle rental option closed down. I tried very hard to find a bike but nothing. I regret not going there sooner but decided to do the small ride in Sri Lanka I had mapped out

The Black Dog riders club had been planning to do a tour from Thailand through Laos in February this year. The situation with taking the bikes across the border changed and they converted the trip into another Thailand ride. Even though northern Thailand is a road riders paradise I opted out having ridden there 4 times and decided to try take a small look at Laos by myself.I flew from HCM city

Continuing my motorcycle tour of the southern area of Vietnam, I took a few days off in Nha Trang and this was good timing to get over a flu I had picked up.The place was recovering from the very late in the year typhoon that had affected the first part of my ride so the bay was not photogenic but here is what it looks like normally. As I mentioned in part one, along the ocean most everything was

I wanted to escape the cold Japanese winter so I dusted off a plan I had to ride from Saigon to Hanoi.Vietnam is long and narrow and the weather varies considerably from the south to the north. In the lead up to this trip there was a huge amount of rain and I started to have doubts about riding the entire length at the same time of year. I contacted Tom a motorcycle blogger living in Vietnam a
