Hearing problems can affect any child, and as a parent, thinking your child is struggling to hear can be frightening. There are some signs you can look out for to spot a problem early and seek treatment. Many hearing problems are caused by simple things like ear infections or wax build-ups and can be treated with ear-drops or antibiotics. For more serious problems, your GP may suggest a hearing aid.

Image

All children have regular check-ups as they grow, and at this standard childhood appointments, your Doctor will check your child’s hearing to make sure no issues are developing.

If you have family members with hearing issues, make sure to watch out for the same signs in your children. Hearing loss can also be caused by premature birth, birth complications and newborn jaundice. Later on, some medications can cause problems, as can regular ear infections or exposure to very loud noises.

To protect your child’s hearing, make sure you always have any ear infections treated promptly. If you’re taking your child to somewhere loud, like a concert, protect them with ear defenders to avoid damage to their ears.

Look out for hearing milestones. All children, from birth, should react to sudden or loud noises. By 3 months, your baby should recognise your voice. By 6 months, your baby should react to loud sounds by turning their heads towards the direction of the noise. Once your baby starts to become a toddler and reaches a year old, they should be mimicing sounds and beginning to form words. Not reaching milestones on time isn’t always a reason to worry; some children just develop later than others. If you’re concerned, make an appointment with your doctor to be sure.

As your child grows, any hearing struggles should be easier to spot. Look out for kids who are behind their peers with learning speech, or who don’t react to their name. Are they slower to learn than the other children? Do they appear to ignore you when you speak to them? If your child frequently struggles to hold conversation, becomes frustrated in rooms with a lot of background noise or often asks for the television or any music to be turned up, it may be worth having their hearing checked out.

If your GP thinks there is a problem, they will refer your child to a specialist. A paediatric hearing specialist will check your child’s ears and then test their responses to sounds with a series of games. This means the test isn’t scary for even young children.

If your child does need help, there are lots of hearing aid options available. For kids, it’s important to choose a hearing aid which is easy to use and comfortable to wear. Look at 100% rechargeable hearing aids to make sure you can keep your childs’ aids working at all times. Try a variety of fits to find what works best for your child. The best hearing aid for your child is one they will actually wear.

If you’re pregnant for the first time, it’s natural to want to track every last detail and buy every gadget on the market to help you do that. But which pregnancy gadgets are actually worth having?

Image

  1. Fetal doppler. A doppler machine lets you listen to the baby’s heartbeat. If you’re finding it difficult to wait to listen to your baby’s heart between doctor’s appointments, this machine could give you peace of mind. With some dopplers, you can even record heartbeat to share with the grandparents.
  2. Contraction tracker. A contraction tracker can be used all through the pregnancy to help you notice patterns. If you know what’s normal for your body, you can screen out false alarms later on in the pregnancy, and feel more sure your contractions are the real deal when you go into labour. You can also use the tracker to help your partner understand what you’re feeling. Try Bloomlife, a rentable piece of kit, which is the first and only wearable for pregnancy in the world.
  3. Anti-sickness wristbands. Nausea is one of the most unpleasant side effects of pregnancy. There are lots of remedies out there, but for a natural alternative, try anti-nausea wristbands. Usually sold for motion sickness, these bands work by pressing on your wrist’s pressure points, which interrupts feelings of nausea.
  4. Bump headphones. You can now special ‘headphones’ for placing on your bump to play sounds to your baby. Many expectant mothers enjoy playing music to their baby in the womb, and find that listening to soothing sounds relaxes them both. Try it out, and see if it works for you.
  5. Kick trackers. Logging every scrap of data you can? A kick tracker can be used to track and log every movement and kick of your baby. Spot patterns on when baby is most active, and what sort of movement they’re up to.
  6. A Tens machine. A Tens machine uses small electrical pulses to provide natural pain relief. They’re great during contractions to make things more comfortable. Check with your doctor before investing in one, however, and practice using it before the big day.
  7. Digital baby book. Go digital with your baby book so it’s always safe and can be more easily shared. Using a free template, you could create a simple website where you can track updates about your pregnancy and the baby when it arrives. Never worry about losing the book, and a website is far easier to share with the whole family at once so they can up with how you’re doing.
  8. A razor reach. Reaching your shins to shave your legs with a baby bump in the way is a real challenge. If you’re still bothered about having hair-free legs, a razor reach is a great tool. The long plastic handle makes reaching with your razor much easier.
  9. Pregnancy pillows. Sleeping while pregnant is a real challenge. Get a good pregnancy pillow to help you find a comfortable position. You can even get ones with a hole in the middle for your bump if you’re usually a front sleeper.

Educational toys are absolutely crucial when a child is growing up. They are the only way to make learning fun and thus they tend to be the most effective method of getting your child to sit down and learn about new things. This article will reveal some of the top educational toys that Melissa & Doug have available.

Melissa & Doug Wooden Animal Nesting Blocks

There is something about toy blocks which seem to provide young children with endless hours of entertainment. These toy blocks are great in particular because they feature exciting images of a whole host of different animals. The set includes animals from all of the four different animal habitats and thus it aids children’s learning regarding the animal kingdom. The animals you can expect to see in this set range from anything to a little sea horse to a massive elephant.

Melissa & Doug Abacus

For those of you who are unaware an abacus is what is also known as a counting frame. Essentially it is a frame which features rows of wires. Each wire has beads which can be slide across it. This one is beautifully crafted and built out of solid wood. It features ten wires all of which contain colourful beads. The beads used are in five different colours; yellow, green, orange, red and blue. This toy is great for helping with maths and calculation. You can head to cazoommaths.com/us for further maths help. But it is also advantageous for the likes of colour recognition and becoming aware of patterns as well.

Melissa & Doug Alphabet Art

This wooden puzzle board is one of the best toys available in stores to help children learn the alphabet. The wooden board features cut out letters. Each letter features a pattern or an image on it which will help the child in question guess what letter it is, for instance ‘I’ features an image of an ice cream.

Melissa & Doug Classic Farm Sound Puzzle

This toy is another way to educate children regarding different animals, in particular farm animals. This wooden board features nine animals which can be taken out as pieces of the puzzle. When the piece of the puzzle is correctly fitted into the right slot the correct animal sound will then begin to play. This is a great way of combining fun and learning.

Melissa & Doug Complete the Picture Pad

A picture pad is one of those toys which are very basic yet extremely effective. Colouring in helps children to unleash their creative side and it also helps them with regards to concentration. This picture pad in particular features twelve different scenes and four copies of each scenes for children to colour in and create their own little masterpiece.

The formality of a traditional ceremony isn’t for everyone, we know – particularly when you’ve done all of that before.  If, like many other people, you’re planning wedding number two, it could be time to put your needs and preferences first.

And do something different….

Pexels

A wedding just for the two of you

One option you might want to consider is to get married alone – well, not alone exactly; obviously there would be two of you!  This is a great idea if arrangements for your two families are just too complicated, for example – and you can always have a big party afterwards.

Why not choose a really unusual venue, if you plan to do this; a beach or even a forest for example – yes that is possible.  Or you could combine your wedding with a holiday to a special location you’ve visited together before.

Pexels

Whatever you choose,  if it’s just the two of you who’ll be at the event, take the opportunity to pick a location you love.

If, however, the idea of a tiny wedding doesn’t appeal to you, or circumstances make that feel inappropriate, there are lots of other ideas to think about.  You could opt for a more traditional celebration, and include all of your relatives – or choose to do something completely different.

A themed family wedding

If you both have young children, and you’re coming together as one family, perhaps you could go completely the opposite way to intimate and exclusive?  There are some great ideas out there for really fun themed family weddings that would be an ideal choice – in that case.

Maybe you could think about films, or characters, your kids love as a theme for your event – to help really bring everyone together, One failsafe idea for children, and pretty much everyone to be honest, is a Disney based theme.

Pexels

You could just combine elements into your clothing or decor, go completely ‘full on’ – or even hold your event at a Disney theme park. Yes, that’s possible too.

Hire musicians to make your event really special

If you choose to have an intimate event you could consider hiring musicians to serenade you with your favourite songs as you take your vows or enjoy your wedding meal.

Or, if you go for a fun, family celebration you could hire a band to play your favourite music – and to fit your theme.  Here are two ideal options, whether you choose to do your own thing, or have a big celebration with all of your loved ones.

Some final thoughts on your special day

When you get married for the second time, we think it’s the moment to think about your own needs – ahead of any conventions.  So we hope this post has provided a few quick thoughts about how to make your next wedding day your idea of ‘special’.

This scooter is perfect for a child that is around the ages of 2-6. You can even push to  age 7 since my 7-year old son fits on it well. I love 3-wheel scooters because getting the act of balancing is easier on this type of scooter. Plus, very little chance of falling while learning to use it. It also teaches your child to lean on the side they wish to turn. This scooter comes in a variety of colors for any girl or boy! I was sent a red scooter to review, and I love the bright color of it.

One really cool feature of this scooter is that it has a Direction Button Lock. You can use this lock so the scooter stays straight so your child can learn to balance easier. It also has easy adjustable handle bars so this is the perfect scooter to grow with your child, and will last many years.

The scooter is made very well, it is not flimsy or cheap feeling. It is very solid. This scooter also has a heel brake that is very easy for the child to use and to stop the scooter.

There are so many pros to this scooter. The ones that make this scooter an A+ for me is the sturdiness of the scooter, ease of use for the child, direction button lock and adjustable handle bars. I love that it can grow with the child and be used for many years. Check out this fun scooter today!!

*I received this Scooter in exchange for this review. All thoughts are my own.

While kid’s parties are meant for kids, the parents or guardians who accompany them should also be considered in the planning process. Here are ten tips to ensure that the grownups will enjoy the next kid’s party you throw:

  1. Designate a Space Exclusive for Adults

You don’t want the adults to compete with the kids for seating in your home. That’s a sure way to put them out of the mood. Designate a section for the grownups that is separate from the kids but still within sight. They still get to keep an eye on their children without the hassle of having to deal with them.

  1. Choose an Inclusive Theme

Kid’s parties are notorious for having themes. It’s usually superheroes for the boys and princesses for the girls. A great way to engage the adults to the party is to choose a theme that has nostalgia, movies, or games that they once enjoyed when they were young and are still enjoyed by kids today. For example, a Mining party for a Minecraft fan might have mining faces balloons or inflatable axes as party favors the kids can play with.

  1. Serve Adult Food Too

Hosts often forget that the adults in the party get hungry too, and the chicken fingers or mac ’n’ cheese on the table might not be to their liking. Offer something that’s a bit more appropriate for grownups; it doesn’t have to be extravagant. Roasted meats, sandwiches, or flatbread pizzas are some of your best bets. Here’s a pro tip: only serve them in the adults-only area.

  1. Don’t Forget about the Adult Drinks

No matter what day or time your party is, having coffee on deck is an absolute must. All adults need a daily caffeine fix. Also alcohol—whether that’s beer, wine, or cocktail—is going to be met with appreciation by tired and stressed-out parents. Just keep the volume in check; it’s still a kid’s party after all.

5.  Curate an All-Ages Playlist

Music is an integral part of any party as it helps set the mood. If you plan to blast Kidz Bop or Disney movie soundtracks throughout the day, you’re going to hear groans from the grownups in the room. Some of the parents might already have their fill of “Let It Go” in their own homes. When choosing songs, make sure that it’s something everyone can relate to.

  1. Avoid Activities That Require a Lot of Adult Help

DIYs and craft activities are a good way to keep the kids busy, but they are attention-intensive. They require a lot of adult supervision. You might lose parents who aren’t savvy with crafts or even stress them out. You can have a hired babysitter to man the station so that the parents can just lounge and enjoy themselves.

  1. Plan Games Where Adults Can Join In

The grownups are as much guests as the kids. Plan games or activities that they can join in, like soccer or capture the flag. Having the kids worked up after several rounds of games will help temper their sugar rush and the adults to mingle more with the other grownups.

  1. Put Out Toys Where Multiple Kids Can Share

Kids suck at sharing. Just imagine how stressful it’s going to be having to deal with two kids fighting over a single toy. The quick fix to this dilemma is to put out toys where a bunch of kids can play together. For example, a ball pit or a bucket of different sports balls will force kids to play with each other.

    9. Keep the Party Short

Make sure that your party falls within an age-appropriate time window. For kids five years and younger, limit it to two hours. For slightly older kids who can handle a longer party, three hours at most is advised. Any longer than these and the adults will start to lose their patience.

  1. Don’t Invite the Adults

The simplest option would probably be to not invite the parents or guardians to the party. That automatically eliminates the problem of catering to both kids and adults. They can just drop off their kids at your home and pick them up later in the day. This will surely be a hit among parents who’re dying to carve out some alone adult time.

Moving is well-known as one of life’s biggest stressors. In line with things like death and divorce, moving can be a real pain in the neck (literally). However, compared with the moving process our parents and grandparents went through we’ve got it pretty good. Let’s look at some things that can make moving day less stressful.

Take Your Time

Depending on your reason for moving you may not have the luxury of time, but if you do, use it wisely. Mobile storage units have been game changers for moving households and businesses. For people who have some notice, they can rent a storage container homestead and have it delivered right to their driveway. They can load boxes in at their leisure and in whatever order they think is best. This makes it easier to stay organized and to handle fragile items yourself.

Make a Donation

Moving time is the best time to donate things you no longer use. From clothes to furniture to appliances, donate the things that have been collecting dust. Not only will it mean less to transport for you but it will be a big benefit for the charity you donate to. Local charities like The Salvation Army and Goodwill will even come to your home to pick up your donation. It doesn’t get much easier than that.

Color Code Your Boxes

Whether you use colored duct tape or sticky notes, find a way to color code your boxes. If you mark all the kitchen boxes yellow and the bedroom blue, it makes moving things into your new home a breeze. Regardless of who is helping you, the color system can make the process run smoothly.

Pillows and Blankets

Pillows and blankets can be bulky, but you can use that to your benefit. Wrap fragile items like mirrors or picture frames in plush items like comforters for protection. You can stuff pillows inside boxes to secure precious goods from bouncing around.

Avoid Weekends

It may be easier said than done, but if you can, avoid weekends. Moving companies charge premium prices on the weekends due to demand. If you are trying to move on a budget, pick a weekday instead.

Watch the Valuables

Movers do their best to pack and move your things in an efficient and safe way. However, even professionals make mistakes. If you have big ticket items like a piano, artwork or a floor to ceiling mirror take pictures or a video of the items before the movers arrive. That way, you have proof of the item’s condition before the move.
