The Board of Directors of DGNA is also pleased to announce the appointment of Scott Brown as Chief Operating Officer, effective April 15, 2019.

The Board identified a need for strong operational expertise to complement the existing leadership to create a synergistic core team. Brown has demonstrated his ability to manage and operate six highly successful Fantastic Sams salons in Florida with several of these salons achieving top revenue status within the network.

“We look forward to Scott Brown developing mutually profitable relationships with franchisees, regional owners and vendors/suppliers,” Lee said. “Operational efficiencies at the salon unit level, salon profitability and technology within the Fantastic Sams network are priorities for him as well.”

“It is a critical juncture in Fantastic Sams’ trajectory, and we plan to focus on the three key metrics of education, marketing and business operations to help DGNA deliver on that vision,” Brown added.

Fantastic Sams, one of the oldest full-service family salon franchises in the U.S., ranked as the number 85 franchise opportunity overall

This is the fifth year in a row Fantastic Sams earned a spot in Franchise Gator’s Top 100 list. Fantastic Sams, one of the oldest full-service family salon franchises in the U.S., ranked as the number 85 franchise opportunity overall. The ranking was developed using a formula based on several criteria, including financial stability, growth, sustainability, profitability, transparency and franchisee satisfaction.

“Each opportunity on the Top 100 list has demonstrated strong growth potential coming into the new year,” said Eric Bell, General Manager at Franchise Gator. “Not only are these opportunities among the very best in the industry, but they also offer a solid investment for the everyday franchise buyer.”

This is the sixth annual Top 100 list that the online franchise directory has released. It was developed to assist prospective franchisees in their search for a franchise opportunity to invest in. The list focuses on identifying franchisors with strong growth potential at an investment level that is more in line with the average franchise buyer.

The ranking is the latest of many recent accolades for Fantastic Sams. The salon franchise recently ranked in Entrepreneur magazine’s Franchise 500® because of the brand strength and support it offers franchisees. Fantastic Sams also recently earned a spot in Newsweek’s inaugural 2019 list of America’s Best Companies for Customer Service.

We’re the oldest unisex salon franchise, but we’re still relevant today because we keep up with the evolving beauty industry

The beauty industry is immortal. The ageless entity has stood the test of time; new trends and technologies only propel the industry into the future. From Farrah Fawcett’s feathered cut of the ’70s to Jennifer Aniston’s iconic “Rachel” of the ’90s, unique hairstyles can define a decade. As time evolves, customers clamor for changing trends. Meanwhile, the need to get a haircut always remains. Perhaps that’s why the beauty industry is a $75 billion business.

Styles come and go, but Fantastic Sams salon franchise is a constant force in the ever-shifting beauty industry. It is one of the oldest franchised unisex salons in North America, revolutionizing the hair salon industry in the 1970s when it introduced a no-appointment-necessary experience. Now, as men visit salons more often and as clients check availability on apps before heading out the door, Fantastic Sams is more relevant than ever. We’ve kept up with evolving trends, along with customers’ dependency on their stylists for product recommendations.

Booking Technology: Fantastic Sams Takes It to the Next Level!

One of the biggest up-and-coming trends within the salon industry is the use of technology to book appointments. Nowadays, customers who want to avoid making small talk with a receptionist can visit a website to schedule their appointments. They don’t need to check their calendar before leaving the salon to frantically schedule their next visit; they can simply go online at their earliest convenience and do it themselves. With this technology trend, where does Fantastic Sams fit in?

The “walk-ins welcome” model is the basis of Fantastic Sams. Busy guests can come in for a haircut at their leisure in between errands or on a casual day off. They can schedule the haircut around their day, not the other way around. Still, many customers, especially repeat visitors, want to make sure their favorite stylist is available when they come in. They can do so by visiting the Fantastic Sams Online Checkin site or app. Not all locations have this option, but either way, all salons benefit from the no-appointments-necessary system.

More Men, More Often: Welcome to Fantastic Sams!

Men are visiting beauty salons more frequently, and the trend looks like it’s on an upward spiral. They need to sit in their favorite stylists’ chairs quite often if they want to keep their hair stylish and tidy. According to a report by Statista, an international market research portal, the global male grooming market is estimated to be worth nearly $30 billion by 2024. The report also indicates that men have begun to spend more money on male-specific toiletries than on shaving products. Men are investing more and more in their looks, and Fantastic Sams is already on top of the trend.

The family-friendly atmosphere at our salon franchises is inviting to men, women and children. Couples can get their hair cut together. A man in a hurry can pop in for a quick haircut, or even just a beard or mustache trim, while he is out and about running errands. Fantastic Sams already caters to men on the go. And, since stylists receive frequent training about the latest haircut techniques and products, they are able to recommend Fantastic Sams’ line of men’s hair care products to their clients. Our product line helps stylists earn more from a commission on the sales and also create an additional stream of revenue for salon franchise owners.

Paying Attention to Product Ingredients: Fantastic Sams Has It Covered!

Now more than ever people are thinking about what they’re putting on their heads when they wash and style their hair, and this thought process goes far beyond what makes them look good. Are the ingredients harmful to their health? To the environment? Fantastic Sams offers hair care products that match customer’s unique needs, and stylists are trained to make recommendations.

Our salon franchise stylists are trained to know the latest trends customers want to follow for their tresses. For example, using oils, specifically argan oil, in hair care is a popular concept that is gaining more traction. Stylists can suggest curious customers try the Fantastic Sams’ Nourishing Serum, which adds moisture and shine while fighting off frizz. For clients battling burnout from heat tools (or dealing with a mess from humidity), keratin is king. Stylists can recommend they try Fantastic Sams’ Smoothing Keratin Treatment. Sulfates, which are in most shampoos, have long been a topic of discussion. Sulfates’ ability to remove dirt and grime also allows them to strip hair of its natural oils. Stylists can direct customers who are concerned about sulfates to use Fantastic Sams’ Violet Sulfate-Free Shampoo, which cleanses hair while maintaining moisture.

Stylists have plenty of opportunities to upsell services and products that help clients look and feel their best, and help franchisees boost the bottom line. Fantastic Sams’ educators keep stylists up-to-date on the latest in hair care so stylists can feel confident making recommendations. Meanwhile, salon franchise owners can focus on running the business.

Each Fantastic Sams salon is a one-stop shop for customers interested in trying out the latest hair care trends. New products, up-to-date technology, and a welcoming environment will always entice customers; but the business model is built in such a way that it easily adapts to changing trends. Fantastic Sams is always in style.

Happy customers mean better business. We’ve very proud our hair salon franchise was ranked among America’s Best Companies for Customer Service.
We’re proud to announce we earned a spot in Newsweek’s inaugural 2019 list of America’s Best Companies for Customer Service.

Newsweek listed Fantastic Sams, one of the oldest full-service family hair salon franchises in the U.S., as one of the top three hair salons in America when it comes to customer service. You can see the full ranking here. Among the reasons we earned this honor were the likelihood of customer recommendations, the quality of communication with customers and our range of services.

“It’s important to Fantastic Sams that our customers enjoy their salon experience; we want it to be the best part of their day,” says Denise Gorlick, Fantastic Sams Vice President of Operations. “Earning a spot in Newsweek’s inaugural list of America’s Best Companies for Customer Service demonstrates that our franchisees are making our customers happy, proud and satisfied. It’s why they keep coming back and recommending our salon services to others.”

To create the list, Newsweek collaborated with analytics firm Statista to conduct an independent survey of more than 20,000 U.S. customers. They were asked how likely they would be to recommend brands to friends and family. Respondents also evaluated brands based on quality of communication, technical competence, range of services, customer focus and accessibility.

This is one of several recent accolades for Fantastic Sams. The company also earned a spot in Entrepreneur magazine’s 2019 Franchise 500® list, the world’s most comprehensive franchise ranking. Fantastic Sams consistently earns placement in the annual ranking due to the brand strength and support we offer franchisees.

Our salon franchise is consistently ranked in the Franchise 500 list because of our brand strength and the support we offer franchisees

Fantastic Sams is proud to announce we recently ranked in Entrepreneur magazine’s Franchise 500®, earning a spot in the world’s most comprehensive franchise ranking. Fantastic Sams, one of the oldest full-service family salon franchises in the U.S., is consistently ranked in Entrepreneur’s Franchise 500 list because of the brand strength and support it offers franchisees.

Entrepreneur received more than 1,000 applications this year, making it one of the company’s most competitive rankings ever. Fantastic Sams ranked number 435 in the 2019 list.

“As we celebrate 40 years of producing the Franchise 500, it’s a good opportunity to step back and look at how much has changed since that first ranking in 1980,” says Jason Feifer, Editor-in-Chief of Entrepreneur. “While the franchise business model has changed little, the strongest franchise brands are constantly evolving and innovating to keep up with changing trends and technology.”

Over its 40 years in existence, the Franchise 500 has become both a dominant competitive measure for franchisors and a primary research tool for potential franchisees. Fantastic Sams’ position on the ranking exemplifies its strength as a franchise opportunity.

Salon franchise affords couple the flexibility to spend time with family — so they added to their family in a big way

Life was good for Mike and Rebecca Pavlich when they purchased a Fantastic Sams salon outside Denver from her parents. This gave them the flexible, full-time jobs they wanted so they could spend time with their two daughters. The couple inherited a successful business and a team of employees that helped them thrive. Life was good — but it wasn’t complete.

“A business is awesome,” says Rebecca. “You should want to make lots of money. But at the end of the day, our satisfaction comes from the intangibles.”

Shortly after Mike and Rebecca purchased the salon in 2015, they adopted two boys from Congo. Suddenly, the Pavliches were a family of six.

Mike and Rebecca Pavlich and their four children are able to spend more quality time together thanks to their ownership of a Fantastic Sams salon franchise. Becoming business owners

Adopting two children wasn’t the only way life drastically changed for the Pavlich family shortly after they purchased their salon. Rebecca lost her father, the man who opened Denver’s first Fantastic Sams salon franchise more than 30 years ago. He helped teach her what she knew about business and led her on the path toward success. Rebecca’s mom, who is happily retired, stepped back in to help guide Rebecca.

“Other than working with my parents, I had no other business experience,” explains Rebecca. “They were just such an unbelievable source of information for the first year.”

Along with sharing the responsibilities of salon ownership with Rebecca, Mike is a fire captain for the Denver Fire Department. He and Rebecca met in high school, and the two became engaged when they were both 19. Rebecca worked on and off for her parents, running several locations before she and Mike purchased the sole salon her parents still owned.

Becoming a family of six

Life was good in 2015. The Pavliches, now business owners, had flexible full-time jobs that allowed them the opportunity to spend more time with their two daughters, Allison and Catherine. They were happy as a family of four, but Rebecca felt a calling. Their family wasn’t whole yet; they hadn’t finished growing. It was time to welcome two more: David and Joseph.
“We had to live in Africa for three months,” says Rebecca. “Our store manager and team ran the salon while we were gone, with the help of my mom. They’re really amazing.”

David and Joseph, now 8 and 7, are not blood brothers, but they have been together since they were babies and are brothers in every other sense of the word. They quickly bonded with their new family, especially their older sisters Allison and Catherine, now 11 and 10.

Rebecca says now they’re one big, happy family.

“My oldest daughter recently told me life is so much better with more kids in our family, and that was so nice. They were old enough to remember life without the boys, but for her to make that statement is pretty cool. They’re remarkably close. They’re best friends.”

Growing and giving back

David and Joseph made life feel complete for the Pavlich family, and they also inspired their new parents to help other families in need. David almost died from malaria before he was adopted, and the Pavliches felt it was their calling to protect other parents from experiencing a devastating loss due to this disease. According to the World Health Organization, there were 435,000 deaths due to Malaria in 2017 and an estimated 219 million cases in 90 countries. The disease, which is transmitted to people through mosquito bites, is treatable and curable with the right resources.

“Malaria is so simple to treat, and it’s so cheap,” explains Rebecca, who is passionately committed to helping those suffering from the disease. “It weighed heavily on our hearts when we saw how sick David became. To imagine being the mom whose child is dying in front of her, needing just $3 to $5 worth of medicine, but they can’t afford it… I end up in tears.”

The Pavliches use their Fantastic Sams salon franchise as a means to give back to their community — and the world. They fundraise for Global Refuge International every year on World Malaria Day and match the amount raised by their customers. The organization, which helps prevent and treat the diseases with the highest fatality rates among displaced populations, is headquartered just around the corner from the salon.

“It means something when the guests support a local charity and a local business while helping people around the world,” says Rebecca. “I love being hyper-local yet also being able to reach others on the other side of the world.”

Raising a Fantastic Sams family

Owning a Fantastic Sams salon has given the Pavliches the opportunity to enrich the lives of others while allowing them time to feel fulfilled at home. Rebecca is able to homeschool her four children while sharing in the responsibilities of owning the salon with her husband.

“We love working together,” says Rebecca. “We have something in which we’re both so highly invested. It’s not one person’s passion, it’s a family passion.”

Rebecca admits they have a rule about not talking about the salon at the dinner table, and she and Mike schedule business meetings with each other. She makes plenty of phone calls throughout the day, but on those calls, she’s reminded of the fact that she’s still at home.

“I determine my schedule. I can’t remember the last time I had to miss something. It doesn’t feel like work.”

For now, they have time to enjoy their not-so-little family of six. But they just might be raising a team of future business owners. Rebecca concedes she and Mike didn’t think about the next 30 years when they bought the salon, they just did it. Now, they are indeed planning for the future, and the salon might be passed down to a third generation.

“Our kids talk about taking over,” muses Rebecca. “They go in and help fold towels, enter inventory, print reports, talk with customers, do product labeling… they’re very involved. It is such a privilege to be an entrepreneur and have them learn at a young age, just like I did. I didn’t realize how beneficial it would be to grow up and learn these tools.”

Owning a Fantastic Sams salon allows the Pavliches to focus on what’s important to them — their family. It allows them the ability to spend time together and to teach their children the importance of hard work and giving back. When they welcomed David and Joseph into their home, life for the Pavliches felt complete. Now, they are aiming to give all their children a bright future. They are doing so in part by demonstrating the importance of hard work and helping others.

“The most important thing you can do is find something that’s very dear to your heart that makes the impact you want to make,” shares Rebecca. “It’s just like when you have that conversation with your kids about making the right decisions instead of the wrong ones and they actually do it… you’re making an impact on their character. That’s bigger than money.”

Now is the time to invest in Fantastic Sams ownership, since salon franchises are a good bet in any economy A strong economy is a great climate in which to open your own business. But salon franchises like Fantastic Sams tend to keep growing even in a down economy.

The United States economy is in a state of euphoria. Unemployment is down, businesses are bustling, and the Great Recession is a thing of the past. Everyone from Wall Street investors to employees across the country are feeling cozy; many are satisfied with their savings and their jobs. But instead of growing complacent, as contented workers tend to do, hungry entrepreneurs with a taste for success are taking advantage of the current economic climate. They know now is the time to invest in the future by buying a franchise; now, when working men and women have secure savings and a steady career to cushion any blows. Fantastic Sams salon franchises offer the perfect opportunity for eager entrepreneurs who want to invest in something more dependable than the stock market.

It’s hard to predict how long the economic expansion in the U.S. will last. Some experts say there is no end in sight, although most agree a downturn is inevitable as part of the ebb and flow of the economy. Others predict the next recession will happen sooner rather than later, starting in 2019 or any day now. It’s a worrisome thought, but not so much for those working in a recession-resistant industry.

Why salon franchises are a solid bet

“No matter the economic climate, it doesn’t cause significant swings in our business,” says John Prichard, who owns two dozen Fantastic Sams salons in Minnesota with his wife, Patti. “In good times and bad times, people still want their hair to look good.”

The Prichards first became Fantastic Sams salon owners in 2004, a few years shy of the global financial crisis. They began with three salons, and, after slowly adding one or two salons a year, they now have the largest Fantastic Sams multi-unit group.

The Great Recession didn’t seem to get in their way.

What to expect when you’re investing

Speaking at a meeting of the National Association of Business Economists in Boston in early October, U.S. Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell said the economy is in good shape — and the future is looking sharp.

“The economy is strong, unemployment is near 50-year lows, and inflation is roughly at our 2% objective. The baseline outlook of forecasters inside and outside the Fed is for more of the same,” said Powell. “This historically rare pairing of steady, low inflation and very low unemployment is testament to the fact that we remain in extraordinary times.”

Some economic experts believe that expectation is overly optimistic. In an earlier article in The New York Times, senior economics correspondent Neil Irwin says something will kill the current economic expansion, but what and when is unknown.

“The Federal Reserve has had a relatively easy time over the last year or two. Both inflation and employment have been gradually moving toward healthy levels as the Fed has gradually raised interest rates,” says Irwin. But he explains that the job facing Powell and the Fed is on the verge of getting trickier. “The risk that the Fed will miscalibrate interest rate policy and cause a slowdown or a recession is rising.”

The bottom line is, no matter the current economic climate, no one can predict the future. The time is right to prepare for whatever is in store by investing in a recession-resistant business like Fantastic Sams salon franchises.

Investing in Fantastic Sams

Scott and Selina Hansen purchased six Fantastic Sams salons in Utah in 2017. Scott left his longtime job as a mall manager to work for their business full time, while Selina continues to work as an accountant. The parents of four saw this as an investment in their family’s future.

“We wanted to not have to worry about what’s the economy going to do with the mall business and be our own owners,” says Scott. “We wanted to control our own destiny.”

After spending 25 years as a mall manager, Scott saw numerous retail stores come and go because the internet was a better competitor.

“In this industry, you’re not going to lose to that. The internet isn’t going to do a better job than you,” says Scott. “Fantastic Sams is taking advantage of all of those things that technology provides, but we’re not losing our customers to it.”

Even in a bad economy, people are reluctant to give up the professional salon services that make them look sharp, and Fantastic Sams’ affordable pricing is even more attractive to clients.

It’s true that the services Fantastic Sams provides cannot be replaced by technology. Salon owners aren’t simply investing in a concept that has staying power, they’re investing in an overwhelmingly successful industry. The beauty industry is a $75 billion business, and it has so far proven stable for those who depend on it for a living.

Investing in stocks comes with uncertainty, but a successful franchise owner can win big. Unlike entrepreneurs who create a new concept, Fantastic Sams owners are armed with the strength of a brand that’s been franchising for over four decades. Along with brand recognition, Fantastic Sams salon owners benefit from ongoing training, marketing support and field-level guidance.

Rather than wait until the next recession begins, or until there is a change in their job status, enthusiastic entrepreneurs are taking advantage of this moment of respite in the economy.

There are various ways to finance your new Fantastic Sams salon. There’s no reason to wait.

And, of course, there’s also strength in numbers. The opportunity to collaborate with other owners is part of why delving into franchise ownership is a smart investment. With nearly 1,000 Fantastic Sams salons across North America, many that have been in operation for decades, there is a plethora of experienced owners willing to share their experiences. Many owners belong to regional support teams or have mentors on speed dial.

These owners are invested in Fantastic Sams salon franchises, and each other, and the decision to do so is paying off nicely. The economy may twist and turn, but one thing’s for certain — Fantastic Sams has a fantastic future.

Our salon franchise is proud to have earned a spot among the top 100 of the strongest franchise brands

BEVERLY, Mass. (October 17, 2018) – Fantastic Sams salon franchise is excited to announce it earned a spot in the top 100 of Entrepreneur magazine’s Top Franchise Brands list. This list recognizes the franchisors that have built the strongest brands, based on data submitted for Entrepreneur’s 2018 Franchise 500® ranking.

Fantastic Sams, the oldest full-service family salon franchise in the U.S., is consistently ranked in Entrepreneur’s Franchise 500 list because of the financial stability, brand strength and support it offers franchisees. The well-established brand has nearly 1,000 salons across North America with a goal of reaching 1,200 salons within the next five years.

“Creating a strong brand is paramount in franchising, and the companies on our list are examples of how to do it right,” says Jason Feifer, Entrepreneur’s editor in chief. “After years and even decades in business, they’ve managed to maintain a balance between staying true to their roots and constantly evolving to stay relevant.”

To determine which franchises have the strongest brands for its Top Franchise Brands list, Entrepreneur analyzed factors such as social media followers, system size, number of years in business, number of years franchising and overall reputation — and looked at how they all combine to form lasting relationships with fans. Fantastic Sams’ position on the ranking shows that the brand has truly made a name for itself through franchising.

To view Fantastic Sams in the full listing, visit entrepreneur.com/franchises/topbrands. The list can also be seen in the September 2018 issue of Entrepreneur.

Investing in a family franchise in a booming industry is a smart way to plan for your future as well as your children’s futures Fantastic Sams is a great choice for a family franchise investment.

As a teenager working in a Fantastic Sams salon in Upstate New York, Juliet Baaklini says taking it over someday was never her plan. She would put on her rollerblades and skate to the Glen Falls salon owned by her mother, Angela, not realizing it would someday be hers. Juliet worked there throughout college, and she became the manager after she graduated to help her mother. Just a few years later, she received a call:

“My mom called and said, ‘It’s official. I’m leaving, and the salon is yours,’” remembers Juliet. “It’s been my whole life, and it’s been a good life.”

Nearly 10 years after that call, Juliet has a leadership style that’s all her own. She utilizes the public relations skills she gained while earning her communications degree in college, focusing more on social media than her mother. However, making her own mark on the salon didn’t come without growing pains.

“When my mom left, it gave me the room to grow and do my own thing,” explains Juliet. “It’s hard when you’re the child of an owner because the stylists look at you as the child. I had to build respect.”

Juliet is one of many “legacy owners” in the Fantastic Sams system — owners who inherited salons from their parents. Some grew up with Fantastic Sams, helping their parents with odd jobs or greeting customers from the receptionist desk (Juliet became a receptionist at her mother’s salon when she was 17). Others teamed up with their parents, working alongside them as partners with the understanding they would eventually become the sole owners.

The lasting legacy of family-owned businesses

Family-owned businesses are the lifeblood of America’s economy, and Fantastic Sams provides the perfect opportunity for entrepreneurs interested in leading their children toward entrepreneurship.

According to a recent study by SCORE, a nonprofit organization that provides mentorship services to business owners, family-owned businesses employ 60% of the U.S. workforce and create 78% of all new jobs. The study, which defines family businesses as those that are operated by two or more family members, says family-owned businesses generate 64% of the gross domestic product.

“We employ more than 70 people. Being able to provide a happy, positive environment for people at work is something to be excited about,” says Aaron Dalzell, whose parents own 11 salon franchises in southern Nevada.

Aaron’s parents opened a handful of Fantastic Sams salons in Nevada when he was a teenager. The family lived in California and later moved to Arizona; all the while, Aaron’s father would visit the salons on weekends. After Aaron graduated from business school, his father suggested Aaron move to Las Vegas for six months; he could be an on-site manager for the salons while figuring out his next step. That six months lasted indefinitely. Now, Aaron operates as COO of the family’s growing salon business, working in Nevada close to the salons while his father maintains his role as CEO from afar.

“My parents trust my decision-making abilities, but I know where the line is. I know when it’s time to call them,” explains Aaron. “Most of my decisions come from an operational level, and my dad handles the legal work. If it’s any type of decision that has a big impact, we’re all on the same page with it.”

When asked if there will ever be a time when his parents aren’t involved, Aaron says probably — but not anytime soon. “To my dad, working is a hobby. It’s what makes him tick, and he enjoys it.”

Planning for succession success

One reason many entrepreneurs decide to run a family franchise is that they want to create a legacy for their children. However, according to the SCORE survey, 47% of family business owners expecting to retire in five years do not have a successor.

Having a succession plan can make the transition easier for family members when it comes time to pass the torch. And the beauty industry is — and always will be — on fire.

The services Fantastic Sams provides can’t be replaced by technology, and the beauty industry is a sturdy $75 billion business. Handing down a Fantastic Sams salon to future generations is a surefire way to continue the family legacy of entrepreneurship. Passing down a salon also helps successors avoid the stress of starting a new business from scratch.

“I think we had a great blessing in the fact that we had my parents,” says Rebecca Pavlich, who owns a Fantastic Sams franchise in Colorado with her husband, Mike. “It’s a challenge to understand this industry in depth until you jump in and do it. My parents were a life preserver.”

Rebecca’s father was one of the first to open a Fantastic Sams in Denver about 30 years ago. Rebecca worked on and off with her parents for a decade running several locations, until they eventually scaled down to one salon. But when her parents decided to relocate to a warmer climate for her dad’s health, Rebecca stepped up to the plate and took over ownership. After Rebecca’s father passed away, her mother, although still retired, came back to help with the salon.

“My mom was really cutting-edge. She figured out a successful formula that involves lots of hard work and problem-solving,” explains Rebecca. “She’s always been a great counsel to me because she always understood our purpose as Fantastic Sams salon owners. What we do at the end of the day is hair. We make people feel good by helping them look good.”

Leading by example

Many of Fantastic Sams’ legacy owners didn’t grow up knowing they would someday take over their parents’ salons, and they don’t necessarily expect their children to become owners someday. However, they are setting strong, entrepreneurial examples for future generations by running a family franchise.

“I would recommend doing this. This is an industry that is secure, so I would certainly tell owners with children to think about handing the business over to their children,” says Juliet. “If you’re a parent who already has a well-established salon, lead by example. My mom set a wonderful example, so I followed her lead.”

Juliet has a young daughter and son, and she is often asked if her daughter, Gia, will take over the salon. Juliet says it will be up to her daughter, who at 8 years old is already greeting customers.

“If she decides she wants to do this when she’s out of college, I’ll do what my mom did and give her the salon,” says Juliet. “My mom is my best friend. If it weren’t for her, I wouldn’t be here, and the salon wouldn’t be here.”
