Whether you’re a beauty guru or complete novice, we’re all guilty of slacking on our beauty regimen. The thing about your beauty routine is that it needs to be just that – routine. Changes in your skin and appearance don’t happen overnight; they take time to appear if you follow a habitual routine and good habits. Now is the time to implement these 5 simple beauty practices so you can look and feel your very best.

SPF: We all know it’s true that SPF is super important, right? You’ve graduated from the days of your mom slathering Coppertone on every inch of your body; you’ve made it through the baby oil and tanning bed days (thank GOD), but now what? Regardless of the weather, you need to be wearing an SPF lotion or makeup product on your face every day to protect your skin from age and sun spots and wrinkles, not to mention disease. Choose a light-weight formula that can be easily applied under your makeup, and let it soak in while you brush your teeth and get dressed, before applying your makeup.

Don’t overbuy products: Raise your hand if you have a handful of beauty products you never use. Now raise your hand if you have a whole drawer. Yup, we thought so. Instead of getting sucked into pretty packaging every time you hit the makeup aisle, take careful inventory of the products you already have before buying more. Toss products you never use instead of hoarding them; they’re just taking up prime real estate in your makeup arsenal, I don’t care how much you spent! Which leads to…

Check expiration dates: Gasp, that’s right, beauty products and cosmetics have expiration dates. Use this Cosmetic Calculator to check your products’ shelf lives. According to the website, “Cosmetic products which shelf life is less than 30 months must be marked with ‘Best before’ date according to common regulations in the most of the countries. Such products can no longer meet safety requirements as soon as expiry date has been passed.”

Kick bad habits: Hopefully we don’t even have to say it, but no, no, NO smoking. Okay, glad that’s out of the way. In that same vein, drinking too much alcohol, especially sugary drinks, wreaks havoc on your skin. Make sure you get at least 6 hours of sleep every night, drink plenty of water daily, and keep your hands off your face (no, seriously, don’t even think about it). Finally, no matter how tired you feel, stick to your nightly skin routine, or at the very least, wash your face.

No excuses: We get it – excuses are easy. Sometimes we really just are that tired to wash our face; that pimple is just that tempting to pop; the wine is just too good to stop at two glasses. But by making a true commitment to your skin by sticking to a routine, your current and future self will thank you.

We see it every day – you’re bored in your office job but feel stuck. You’re looking for fulfillment in a career outside the home. You’re looking for a way out of your career and into a new one, the one you’ve always dreamed of, but you’re uncertain if you can make that leap. You love beauty but don’t know how you’ll make it in the world of cosmetology.

Good news for you – not only can you make that leap, you’re going to crush it. And we’ll make sure of it.

We firmly believe that you should never quit your daydream, but what steps do you need to actually change to a career in cosmetology?

Are you ready for a career change?

In the past, people stayed at one job their whole lives but now, it’s the norm to change careers several times. So are you ready for a career change? Here are some signs that you might be ready.

  1. You’re bored at your current job.
  2. You feel unfulfilled.
  3. You’re stressed in your position.
  4. Your talent is not recognized or used.
  5. You’re unhappy with a low salary.
  6. You miss meaningful interactions with people.
  7. You’re lacking a work/home balance.
  8. You have a wish to break free of a 9-5 schedule.
How to change careers to cosmetology:

Have faith: making a career change is exciting…but also scary. You’re bound to have endless questions about your future and even doubts about yourself – can I do it? Can I be successful? Remember your “why”: make a list, an actual written list of why you want to change your career to cosmetology. Make it detailed. Make it personal. Make it real  by writing it down and put it in a place you see it every day – hang it on your fridge, tape it on your bathroom mirror, or place it in your planner. Remind yourself of your “why” and keep on pushing through until you crush your goals.

Contact admissions: now it’s time to take the first step to your exciting future – contact admissions to get more information about the program, and browse the school’s website to learn everything you can about the training, teachers, testimonials, and career opportunities.

If you have a passion for beauty, switching careers to one in the beauty industry will be incredibly rewarding. This industry is constantly growing, which is great news for you because it means there is a constant need for qualified professionals, and a beauty career gives you opportunities to advance your career as far as you’d like – no more being stuck in a job with nowhere to go.

We hear it all the time when we’re kids – what do you want to be when you grow up? We’re encouraged to strive for whatever makes our hearts content without thinking about logic or practicality.

Then something changes; soon artists, writers, designers, and dreamers are inundated with the notion that you must follow a traditional path, leading to a “safe” job. The creatives lose their dreams as they’re rerouted into a conventional journey to a four-year college that spits them into a world of business. And this world isn’t a bad one, but it’s not your world.

Well guess what – if you’re a creative artist with a passion for beauty, you not only can but should pursue your daydream, no matter where you are in life. Let’s reignite that childhood spark and tell the world, “hey, I CAN make an incredible living do what I love.” So take that, world.

Take Janice, for example. Janice came to us upon completing her four-year degree, after eight arduous years in good old corporate America. While this was a great path for many of her peers, it wasn’t hers. Through each year of education and working, she knew it wasn’t right; while everyone else was settling into their career, she didn’t feel the same way. The nagging feeling of settling didn’t sit well with her. But she was already almost a decade into working, surely it was too late for a career switch…

Or was it?

Janice turned that unrelenting feeling into action and decided to turn her passion and hobby into an actual career that wasn’t settling. Now, she not only makes money doing what she loves, but she has an excitement and spark in her life that she had been missing for so long.

What’s the biggest takeaway? Without trying to sound like a cliched motivational poster, it’s never too late to take a chance on yourself, because guess what? If you don’t, nobody else will. Don’t let life get in the way of what you love – just because a traditional path is right for some people, it doesn’t mean it’s right for you.

Seriously girls and guys – this is your LIFE. Take control of it, and guess what? You’ll not only make your life a million times brighter, but you’ll make the world more beautiful while you’re at it.

Cosmetology School Is Not Out Of Reach

While we are not screaming that statement from the rooftops, we probably should. After all, it’s important, but most people don’t know it.
The biggest things that keeps people from pursuing their dreams of becoming a cosmetologist are financial roadblocks.
It doesn’t have to be that way.
No matter if you are living paycheck to paycheck, or simply don’t have enough in savings, you can make your cosmetology dreams come true thanks to some of the many options that we have available at Educators of Beauty.

Federal Financial Aid

We are proud to be able to offer financial aid to students who qualify. As an accredited school approved by the United States Department of Education, we are able to offer Title VI funds to our students. Known as financial aid or student loans to much of the public, the government offers several different types of aid to students.

    • Federal Direct Subsidized Loans

These loans operate much the same way as standard loans. However, while you are enrolled in school, or while the loans are in deferment, the interest is paid by the federal government. This can be a huge help once you begin paying on your loans as the amount owed could be greatly reduced. However, an approved student can only borrow so much of these types of loans, which makes it important to speak to a financial advisor and borrow wisely.

    • Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loans

Different than the subsidized loans, these loans have no assistance from the federal government with the interest being the full responsibility of the student. While that can impact the repayment later, you can make payments on all of these loans while you are in school, decreasing your overall interest and repayment amount.

    • Federal Direct PLUS Loans

PLUS loans are federal loans that are taken out by the parents of dependant undergraduate students. If you are under 18 and your parents are interested in helping pay for your school, this is an option that you should look into.

    • Pell Grants

Different than loans, the Federal Pell Grant is distributed to qualifying students based on need, in varying amounts per year. Although this grant does have a lifetime gap, it does not need to be repaid, meaning that depending on the qualifying amount you could see a significant amount of your schooling cost paid for.

How to Apply for Federal Student Aid

Once you have decided to attend the beauty school of your dreams, there are a few steps you should take to prepare for your first day and get all of your financial aid in place.

      • Sit Down With an Advisor

Once you have applied for your chosen school make sure to schedule a time to sit down with the financial aid advisor. Even if you feel confident in your knowledge of financial aid, it is important to meet with your advisor and make sure everything is completed and in place. This can help to make sure you will not only get the full amount of aid possible, but that there is no issue that will cause a delay in your start date.

      • Meet the Requirements

As with most things, there are qualifications that you need to meet before you can apply for financial aid. These may be different than the qualification to apply for your school of choice, so be aware of the differences to avoid any pitfalls.

        1. Be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen
        2. Hold a high school diploma or a general education diploma (GED)
        3. Have a valid social security number
        Fill out the FAFSA

You have sat down with the advisor, you meet the requirements, you have applied for your chosen school. Now comes the most important part of the financial aid process. Apply for the FAFSA.
The Free Application For Student Aid is the government application that will help to determine the award amount you will receive, as well as what types of loans and grants you qualify for. To apply, visit FAFSA’s website and follow their easy steps for application.

Beauty school does not have to be out of reach! No matter your financial situation an education in beauty is possible! Contact us today to discover how our financial aid options could benefit you, and lead you towards a career that could take you from paycheck to paycheck to a life changing career.

With summing coming to a close, it’s time to start thinking about fall. The cool breezes, the changing leaves, pumpkins, and of course the fashion that will see us all the way to next spring.
Just because summer is leaving, however, does not mean that we have to say goodbye to all the styles that we have fallen in love with.
Here are our favorite looks from summer that we would love to see follow us into fall.

Let Your Clothes Make a Statement

Brights

They were big this summer, and we would love to see them all over the place this fall! Even though the leaves may be changing, a bright pop of yellow is just what we need. From Kermit green to sunshine yellow, there’s only one rule for wearing brights this fall: wear lots of it.

Stripes

Stripes are pushing full steam ahead into fall (at least we think so). This bold look emerged early into the spring/summer season, and we don’t expect it to slow down come fall. Check out these styles from Forever 21 on your quest to find an Instragram-worthy look that’ll have your friends jealous.

Mix and Match

Do you think stripes and squares go together? Last year we would have said no. But this year? This year ANYTHING goes! Bust out the stripes and accessorize to the max. Worried about getting into trouble with this eclectic style? Stick to a strict color palette and focus on the accessories.

Makeup and Hair

Gothic lips made a surprising appearance this year, and we think it’ll be glam come fall. Pair the sassy gothic shade with bold metallics in gold, black, and silver. Our fashion wants for the fall are bold, so your makeup and hair should be bold to match (or mismatch?).

Braids are Still In!

Don’t worry, these classics aren’t going anywhere soon. They are, however getting more interesting and creative with each passing season. Be brave and embrace your creative side – and don’t be afraid to try something new!

Color Pops

Listen, we don’t make the rules, fashion week does. Having said that, we’re absolutely on board with the way color has continued to change and mutate these last few years. It is certainly not going anywhere, with the summer look we love staying with us and mutating into the bright complementary colors we have seen before. Perfect for adding character when throwing your hair up for cutting class.

A Bunch of Bows

If you are joining Educators of Beauty for one of our program classes this fall, you are going to have your hair up a lot. But don’t just pull it up and call it good, accessorize with our favorite holdover from this summer – bows.

It’s time to start planning your wardrobe and get ready for fall! You don’t want to be left behind as the seasons change!

Be ready to knock everyone’s socks off when you go back to school this fall.
Take a look at our cosmetology program and discover how your fashion sense can turn into a life-long passion.

When you’re packing for a summer trip, choosing your makeup can be just as important as choosing your clothes. If you pack too many clothes, you might run out of room. If you pack too much makeup, you might create a big mess in your bag. If you pack right, it’s possible to create a great summer look without taking up too much space in your bag. Here are some things you can do to bring the summer makeup look with you on the go!

Start with the Bag

The first step to travelling with makeup is to choose the right bag. When choosing a bag for travelling, start looking for these features:

  • Size. Decide what size of makeup bag fits your needs. A small bag works great for an overnight bag, but a bigger bag might be easier to use when going on a longer trip. Figure out how much makeup you want to bring and buy a bag that fits that much makeup (and probably a little more).
  • Closure. When traveling, it’s important to have a way to close your makeup bag without the risk of it breaking open and spilling foundation all over your new, white shirt. Some bags come with clasps, while others have magnets. Zippers are a great way to make sure that your makeup bag stays closed.
  • Lining. Some bags come with a waterproof lining for easy cleanup in case of a spill. If a lot of your makeup is liquid, a waterproof lining will make your life easier in the long run.
  • Compartments. If you’re someone who likes to stay organized, a bag with compartments or different pockets might work best for you. Your makeup is sure to get jostled while in your bag, so compartments are a great way to keep your makeup in place.

Simplify Your Routine

When travelling, don’t expect the time or the need to do the full face routine. Skip some of the contouring and go for a more natural look. Chances are, the makeup you choose will get damaged while travelling, so choose products that are less expensive than what you usually use. If you can, find products that are all-in-one, such as an eyeshadow that works as blush or lip balm, too.

How to Pack

You don’t want to open your bag and find your eye shadow plastered throughout the bag. Wrap clothes around your makeup bag to act as a cushion for the bag to lower the risk of your powder makeup breaking. Here are some other things you should consider when choosing what makeup to bring:

Foundation

Foundation can be one of the more expensive products in your makeup collection. If you aren’t going to be gone long, choose a cheaper foundation for travelling. If travelling on a plane, a powder foundation does not have to be stored with your other liquids, which makes it more convenient. If you need a more convenient travel size, try putting liquid foundation in a contacts case.

Eye Shadow

Eye shadow is one of the easiest things to overpack. Only choose 2-4 color palettes and leave the rest at home. Make sure to choose colors that go well with the outfits you pack!

Mascara

Mascara is one of the easiest parts of your makeup routine to travel with. When choosing what mascara to bring, make sure to go for a waterproof mascara so it doesn’t smear while you’re sweating in the hot sun.

Eyeliner

Whether you choose a pencil eyeliner or a liquid eyeliner with a felt tip, make sure the lid stays on and secure. Much like the mascara, try to choose an eyeliner that is smudge-proof to prevent the eyeliner from rubbing off the eyelid during the day.

Lipstick

Want the vibrant red lips for your summer look? Go for it. Lipstick does not count as a liquid, so if choosing air travel, lipstick can be packed on your carry on. If you’re planning on staying out in the sun, make sure to bring a moisturizing lip balm with SPF to protect your lips from the sun.

Makeup Remover

Skip the bottles of product. When travelling, use facial wipes to remove makeup while on the go. Not only do they successfully remove your makeup, they also don’t spill.

Travelling with makeup doesn’t have to be hard or messy. With the right tools, you can achieve a beautiful, yet natural look, while on the go. If you want to find out more about what makeup tools to use, check out our cosmetology program!
