VOD Dubai International Jewellery Show from November 14 to 17, 2018

VOD DUBAI INTERNATIONAL JEWELLERY SHOW 2018 & NEW UAE INITIATIVES REAFFIRM DUBAI AS PIVOTAL LINK IN GLOBAL JEWELLERY MARKET CHAIN

The VOD Dubai International Jewellery Show (VOD DIJS), the MENA’s only B2B and B2C jewellery industry mega event, returns for its second instalment on November 14 to 17 at Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC). With strengthened show features and strategic partnerships alongside newly announced UAE initiatives aimed at positioning the country as an incubator for innovators and a hub for investors, this year’s VOD DIJS is set to further enhance the emirate’s standing as a pivotal link in the global jewellery market chain.

UAE Initiatives Bolster Trade

Recently announced UAE initiatives – such as the new VAT reverse charge mechanism for the jewellery B2B trade, the introduction of long-term investment visas, and 100% company ownership for international investors – are making VOD DIJS even more enticing for international jewellery producers interested in taking advantage of Dubai’s trading location.

At the wholesale level, a reverse VAT charge was announced last month with immediate effect for gold, diamonds, jewellery and precious metals, effectively nullifying the VAT cash outlay, meaning no payment or collection of VAT is required for B2B operators. This is likely to add a renewed vitality to the industry as investment is stimulated and customers benefit from more competitive prices.

The UAE government also confirmed that 10-year investor visas will become available by year end, while global investors will also be able to retain 100% ownership of their companies in the country – a move well-received by business owners and industry experts in the region, as it will enable the UAE to remain at the forefront of the trade and continue to act as an incubator for innovators and a hub for investors.

More than a gateway, Dubai is traditionally one of the foremost importers and exporters of jewellery worldwide. These new moves along with VOD DIJS are likely to boost its standing even further, as the emirate attracts more investment and drives increased trade across the jewellery industry.

What is VOD?

VOD DIJS is a combined effort organised by DV Global Link, a joint-venture company between Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) and Italian Exhibition Group (IEG). Its trade-meets-consumer vision, strategic location, comprehensive pre-event road show, hosted buyers program, expansive trade opportunities and boutique customer experience provide a definitive platform to satisfy the dynamic demands of its stakeholders from international trade organisations to wholesalers, manufacturers, traders, retailers and end consumers.

The show promotes all aspects of the global jewellery industry including craftsmanship, production, distribution, precious materials, trends and more. It’s divided into four distinctive districts – Global Brands, Fine Jewellery, Gemstones & Diamonds, and Packaging & Technology – as well as a Trade Area dedicated to exhibitors that are primarily interested in the B2B markets.

Tools such as the pre-promotional road show and hosted buyers program have been designed to give maximum support for the event exhibitors. The road show, the largest of its kind for any Middle Eastern jewellery event, is designed to raise buyers’ awareness and drive exhibitor participation in Dubai’s only B2B and B2C jewellery fair. It will target selected buyers, international brands, boutiques, wholesalers and retailers across the GCC, as well as the greater Middle East, Africa, Europe and Asia. On the other hand, the hosted buyers program pairs top-brand local and international retailers and department stores with wholesalers and event exhibitors to ensure access to unique collections, a competitive advantage, and the chance to build new relationships in the industry.

With more than 500 local, regional and international exhibitors launching brand new product lines, collections and jewellery, and over 200,000 square feet of exhibition space, VOD DIJS delivers a unique approach and innovative format and layout, culminating in an enhanced visitor experience.

Strategic Partnerships Sealed

The second VOD DIJS will also continue to increase the emirate’s jewellery trading potential this year via several ongoing strategic partnerships with local and international trade organisations starting with Dubai Gold and Jewellery Group (DGJG) and India’s Gem Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), with more to be announced in the coming months.

DGJG is the largest trade body for Dubai’s jewellery industry representing all sectors of the trade including bullion, gold and diamond jewellery manufacturing, wholesale and retail of jewellery, precious metals, diamond and pearl. The group was formed under the directives and the guidance of Dubai Department of Economic Development and is committed to developing and sustaining Dubai’s status as the ‘City of Gold’ and ‘The Jewellery Destination of the World’.

GJEPC was set up by the Ministry of Commerce, Government of India (GoI) in 1966. It was one of several Export Promotion Councils (EPCs) launched by the Indian Government to boost the country’s export thrust. Representing almost 6,000 exporters in the sector, GJEPC has emerged as one of the most active EPCs striving to expand its reach and depth in its promotional activities as well as widen quality services to its members.

The upcoming shows on the International Jewellery Calendar are VOD Dubai International Jewellery Show from November 14 to 17, 2018 and VICENZAORO from January 18 to 23, 2019.

VOD DIJS is open from 2pm to 10pm on November 14, 15 and 17, 2018 and from 3pm to 10pm on Friday, November 16. Entry is free. For more information please visit www.jewelleryshow.com.

Press Release

World Pasta Day @ Auditorium DKP on 25th October 2018

PASTA CELEBRATES 20 YEARS OF GLOBAL POPULARITY ON WORLD PASTA DAY 2018

On Thursday, Oct. 25, World Pasta Day will celebrate its 20th anniversary. Since its inception, pasta’s popularity has grown globally, and continues to win over new fans daily.

The city of Dubai will host World Pasta Day 2018. The choice of Dubai is a tribute to the contribution that Arab culture has made to the invention of the most famous pasta format. In the 9th-century the Arabs brought to Sicily the Ittriyya, thin strands of dried pasta, later perfected by the Italian “Vermicellari,” that would become modern-day spaghetti. Pasta is extremely popular in Dubai, a global city where 88 percent of its residents are of foreign origin. Dubai, home to EXPO 2020, is a gateway to the Middle Eastern and Asian markets.

This year, World Pasta Day, organized by the International Pasta Organization (IPO), Italian Association of Confectionary and Pasta Industries (AIDEPI), and Italian Trade Agency (ITA), will focus on the healthful, sustainable and great-tasting aspects of pasta, as well as its growing and enduring popularity around the world. It will feature information and thought sharing from renowned pasta makers, industry members, scientists, media and other opinion leaders, as well as in-depth research analysis related to the healthful and nutritional aspects of pasta and its place as part of the gold-standard Mediterranean Diet.

“Pasta is an extraordinary product that brings joy and conviviality to the table of millions of people all over the world every day,” said Paolo Barilla, IPO President. “We, pasta producers, like to see how chefs continue to reinterpret it, how culinary experts describe it, and how nutritionists recommend it for a healthy, balanced diet.”

According to IPO, worldwide pasta production has increased 63 percent since 1998, growing from 9.1 million tons to almost 15 million tons in that time. Today, it is reported that pasta is produced in more than 40 countries around the world, and there is a pasta for everyone to enjoy — whole grain, organic, gluten-free, specialties, and, of course, traditional.

Today, countries that consume the most pasta are Italy (23.5 kilograms per capita), followed by Tunisia (17 kilograms), Venezuela (12 kilograms), Greece (11 kilograms), Chile (9.4 kilograms) and the United States (8.8 kilograms).

Raffaello Ragaglini, General Secretary, IPO, said, “Pasta is a universal food, rich in history and culture, and more than ever before a symbol of healthy eating, whose consumption is constantly developing, thanks to its internationally recognized nutritional values. World Pasta Day will be an opportunity to present pasta as the perfect food it is, a true food of the future that combines taste and conviviality with well-being and sustainability.”

Health & Inclusiveness

Pasta’s healthfulness and ability to adapt to diverse cultures will be showcased at the event.

Pasta is a nutritious complex carbohydrate that, when combined with vegetables and legumes and other healthy pairings, is one of the easiest and healthiest of mealtime choices. Ongoing studies on the health benefits of pasta in conjunction with many international universities continue to assess the impact of pasta consumption on weight, glycemic response and risk factors for diabetes and cardiovascular diseases.

Locally, Dubai is actively educating school age students with its “Food & Nutrition in Schools in Dubai” initiative by the Dubai Municipality. The program is designed to curb obesity and help build a healthier generation. Guidelines ensure children have access to nutritious, safe and wholesome food during their school time. Pasta is among the recommended foods.

A Pasta Cooking Show that showcases the inclusiveness of pasta will take place at the International Centre for Culinary Arts (ICCA) Dubai, featured amongst the Top 10 Culinary Institutes in the World. Syrian Chef Mohammad Orfali, Italian Chef Luca Marchini, Argentinian Chef Victoria Andrade, and an international team of student chefs will present signature pasta dishes inspired by delicious and diverse recipes from different countries such as Lebanon, Egypt, India, South Africa, the UAE, and the United States.

Power of Pasta: 2 Million Pasta Plates to Fight Hunger

According to a UN report, for the third year in a row, there has been a rise in world hunger. The number of undernourished people has increased, returning to levels from almost a decade ago, and putting the Zero Hunger Development Goal at risk by 2030. More than 820 million people suffer hunger and more than 150 million children have delays in growth because of it. This is why pasta makers from all over the world have committed themselves to the second “Power of Pasta,” a global charity initiative donating about 2 million pasta plates to local organizations involved in the fight against hunger.

Join the Celebration!

In addition to the World Pasta Day festivities in Dubai, there will also be a “Pasta Challenge” held on social networks everywhere. Food lovers, chefs, journalists and bloggers are all being encouraged to share their most inspired and popular pasta recipes, adding a “local” touch, with the hashtag #WorldPastaDay. Everyone is invited to attend this “Spaghetti Social.” To participate on Facebook, access the page here.
