Fall is just around the corner, I am anxiously waiting for the weather to cool down so I can pull out all my jackets and boots. Below, I’m rounding some of my favorite fall classics like camel coat, turtleneck sweater, burgundy bag, red dress, and some trending pieces like the grey jeans, snake print boots, polka dot flats, and a beret, all under $50 except for #1 and #7 which are on sale for under $100.
I’ve always loved polka dots. They’re classy, always trending, whimsical, and downright chic. They’re this magical print that seems to fit every style, age, and even gender. Add this equally playful and elegant print to your wardrobe for fall.
I bought this polka dot dress from Yes Style, it was my first purchase from their site. Apart from shipping (took almost 4 weeks to receive since it was from Asia), I absolutely love the dress, it has that 50’s vibes to it with the collar neck, puffed sleeves, and the ruffled hem. See how vintagey it looks in the picture below.
Don’t you love it when you put on colored jeans and you feel so good about yourself (happens rarely right!?), well these are the pants that really do it for me. The Jen 7 jeans in pretty pink are everything I look for in colored jeans- sliming, comfy and mid-waisted. They also come in green which would be perfect for fall as well.
These pink jeans are buttery soft and the fit is pretty amazing. The twill fabric has a great stretch and recovery that allows them to mold to your body, and they don’t bag out throughout the day. I absolutely love the released raw hem detail.
For size reference, I have the 25 in these. That’s my typical size in Jen 7 / 7FAM jeans, AG and I am 27 in Levis.
Pink pairs well with almost any neutral color including chambray and denim but today I sharing little more colorful yet casual outfits. Here are the 5 outfits I created with the Jen 7 jeans pink jeans.
1. Pink Jeans with Olive and Burgundy
These colors set the fall mood instantly. If you are someone who is trying to add more color to your outfits and also don’t want to look too colorful, then I suggest opting for warm colors like these-olive, burgundy, camel, violet, etc. They are also super trendy for fall.
The bow pumps make this outfit little dressy and chic.
Printed shirts are easy thrown on pieces because they’re visually interesting without having to layer or add accessories to, you can just throw it on and go as is! The straw espadrille breaks the warm tone of the outfit + they are easy transitional shoes for fall.
Giving my spin on the trendiest color of the year-lilac. I love how colorful this outfit looks yet very wearable. Skinny jeans with a graphic tee is the easiest put together outfit. You can never go with this combo. I kept my accessories and shoes simple to keep the whole outfit casual.
In this outfit, I went for subtle print mixing with polka dots and florals. I kept the top and jeans monochrome and added color with the shoes and blazer. This outfit is perfect for work if you have don’t have a strict dress code.
Before Switching to all natural, I had given up on the hope to find a perfect foundation that blends with my uneven skin tone, that doesn’t rip off the natural glow of the skin. Fast forward now I am amazed that I found the (almost) perfect foundation, a natural blush, lipstick(s), highlighter, Kohl pencil and mascara that I swear by and are completely free from harmful chemicals!
The most powerful thing my upbringing has taught me is simplicity. I grew up watching my grandma, mom, and aunts unapologetically walk out of the house wearing zero makeup and yet look incredibly beautiful. There was a phase in my life when YouTube makeup videos took over my life. I use to dislike myself for not looking stunning even after wearing makeup. The reason was I was trying to look like someone I wasn’t. Makeup shouldn’t change you, it should enhance your real beauty
Switching to all natural makeup products is honestly the best decision I’ve made for my skin. It’s not only helped me to be aware of what I’m putting on my skin, it also opened the doors to make my own skincare at home. Natural beauty products do more than just cover your imperfections, they make your skin healthy! That’s what I would choose any day!
I am a very minimalistic person when it comes to makeup now. I have a combination skin, oily t-zone, and dry cheeks. I like products that make my skin look fresh, naturally glowing and healthy. Mentioned below are all the products I am currently using, loving and will mostly rebuy.
6 Favorite Natural Makeup Products You’ll Love
RMS Beauty Un cover-up foundation in shade 22
I am obsessed with this foundation because it’s not cakey and leaves a cute little shine on my skin. The foundation is extremely lightweight, you can build it up to get a little more coverage. It looks almost natural on the skin with no dry patches. My colleagues and friends always compliment how healthy and bright my skin looks whenever I wear it.
Application- very smooth, you can use a beauty blender or apply it with your fingers
Cons- Not very long-lasting even after wearing it over a primer. But for some reason no product is long-lasting on my skin. I have to reapply it after certain hours which I almost forget to do. Also, I feel this product works well better on the dry skin compared to oily because my cheeks tend to blend it better than my t-zone.
This is my favorite blush. I have used it in my Summer makeup tutorial post. The color is a perfect balance of pink/coral/rose. It naturally brightens the face. Since it has a berry undertone, it compliments olive, brown and darker skin tones very well.
Application- Smooths on skin very nicely with a beauty blender.
Cons- Not super pigmented, which is also the reason I like it lill extra because you don’t have to worry about taking too much product. Little pricey for just a blush.
100 percent pure cocoa butter matte lipstick in shade winecup
Winecup is the prettiest wine mix pink shade. It’s perfect for every season and for occasions and for days when you like to dress up. These lipsticks are highly pigmented. Even though they are matte finish, they are highly moisturizing because of the cocoa butter in it. I also like the Sahara color for daily use.
Application- Smooth in the application
Cons- Not long-lasting for a matte lipstick but still, I highly recommend it.
This is legit one of the best mascara in the market that lasts all day, never flakes, smudges very little (which can be fixed with powder) and makes your lashed look naturally long and gorgeous. Since I have a combination skin, smudging is a huge problem for me which is why I stay away from eye makeup on a daily basis but this is one product I don’t mind wearing every day.
Application- Apply nearly without any clumps.
Cons- This is actually not a con but If you are looking for a super heavy mascara then you might not like this one but you can certainly build it up with multiple quotes.
While I chose a beach vacation over New York fashion week this season. My First NYFW I attended in Feb’18 is still fresh in my memories. It was a dream come true moment for me. I’ve always been obsessed with clothes and the creative process of designing. However, I wasn’t aware of Fashion presentations until I stumbled upon Lakme Fashion Week (the biggest fashion show in India) in my late teens. I didn’t grow up reading fashion magazines, my inspiration majorly came by peeking into stores every season and by tailoring my outfits.
I never thought I would get a chance to witness months of hard work of designers coming to life in front of my eyes, and not to mention the opportunity to see the amazing designer walk down the runway at the end of every show. It was surreal and magical.
I didn’t plan on going to NYFW, but it happened, fortunately..!
I have to tell this story because NYFW didn’t happen to me so easily and for the fact to any influencer.
I was planning on going since last year but I was not confident enough to pitch in brands and was too chicken to go. The entire process was overwhelming and gave me anxiety whenever I thought of it. My easy excuse was I can’t take off from work.
I didn’t pitch in any brands and was feeling regretful about it. On Jan 24th, I received an email from a notable NYC hotel offering me a free stay if I was going to NYFW. I was exhilarated, it was like the fashion gods are sending me a sign that I should go to Fashion week (excuse the drama queen in me, she likes to take over sometimes).
I sat down that day and gathered the PR contacts for all the brands I wanted to pitch in. It was the end of January, meaning it was about the time brands respond back with invitations. I was late but never too late to try.
I took my chance, I sent invite requests to brands the very next day…!
It took me an entire day to customize and send emails. It felt like I was going to go blind staring at my computer screen all day long. The only thought that got me going was “what if”, what if I got into a show, it would be worth it.
As expected, I received emails saying the show was full and they couldn’t accommodate me. The first few emails were all rejections but slowly, it changed I started getting invites (yay!! time to happy dance).
And the offer by the hotel kept changing. I ended up not going with them. But I’m thankful for the initial push they gave me.
Basic NYFW FAQ’s
I got several questions when I posted my NYFW pictures on Instagram. Here are the answers to the most asked questions
Why was I there?
Some of you asked if I was showcasing my collection at NYFW (that would be insane, definitely a dream). No, I was there to just watch the collection.
A few years back these fashion shows were only permitted to magazine editors and buyers. They recently extended the doors to the influencers and I was one of those lucky bloggers who was given a chance to attend some of the shows.
Can anyone attend these shows?
yes if you have an invitation to the show.
How do you get an Invite?
If you are a blogger, or a photographer or a social media influencer, I recommend pitching in brands that are you are interested in, do not expect brands to email you with invites, fashion shows don’t work that way, not at least for newbie bloggers.
If you want to attend a show or an event with a brand, you have to reach out to them (only 5% of shows do not accept pitches). I reached out to several PR companies that handled the invitations for these shows and got lucky to get invites for 8 shows.
How to find PR contacts and what online resources to use?
MODEM – This website is basically the NYFW encyclopedia. It has all the information about the shows like the date, venue and the press contact details for every designer that is showcasing their collection.
CFDA and FW online– These websites contain the official NYFW schedule. You can use this to decide which days and designers you want to attend.
GPS RADAR – This is what the brands use to send out invites. You need to create an account in order to RSVP shows once you get an invite. Download the GPS radar app on your phone, to keep track of all your invites.
How to Pitch in brands?
Use the Modem online site to find the PR email contact for the designer you want to attend, if you can’t find it, google it or go to the official brand website and check their contact page for press contact.
Send them a short email telling them a little about yourself, your brand (include social media stats if needed), your interest in the brand and that you’re requesting access to a show. Don’t forget to mention in the email that you will cover the show in your social media or blog and anything that will make you stand out, like your collaborations with the brand if any, etc.
How many shows can I attend?
You can attend as many as you want if you have the invite. But make sure your schedule doesn’t clash before you RSVP for a show. Also, keep a buffer time of at least an hour and a half between shows. So that you have enough time to change and be there at the venue before time.
What to do after you got the invite?
Make sure you RSVP promptly. If you can’t make it to a show due to schedule conflicts or for other reasons decline the invite, so that they can offer it to someone else. The whole point is filling in all the seats for shows, so it’s good you decline the invite instead of leaving it unattended.
What to Expect
So far I talked about how I attended NYFW and answered some of the basic questions on how to get invites. Now let’s dive into what I thought NYFW would be and how it turned out to be.
Expectations Vs Reality
A sudden wave of giddiness swept over me as I saw the crowd waiting outside the venue. Part of me was excited to go inside and the other part of me didn’t want to step out of the uber. Thankfully, I had Lakki beside me, my support system. I had the best time attending shows, to be in the same room with people that breath fashion was fantastic yet there were moments of disappointment, the moment I felt detached.
It’s all about the shows
Fashion shows are all about celebrating designers, witnessing the moving visual art, and appreciating the intent behind every design. It’s living the excitement of knowing what’s going to be hot on the racks way before your traditional stores tell you.
And, I believed everyone was there just for that….!
Sadly, that wasn’t the case. Every show I attended, I have seen people leaving behind the handouts on their seats. The handouts that shared the idea and inspiration behind every piece that was showcased were left unnoticed and unopened. I also overheard one blogger saying “shows are the most boring thing about fashion week and she was only there for networking”.
It was disappointing to hear such comments coming from an influencer who of all should understand the pain and agony that goes behind the creative content. It is regressing how some people no longer see fashion shows as a celebration of designs and creations.
You meet people from all backgrounds
Fortunately, this was a reality. NYFW is an occasion which invited people from all backgrounds to enjoy a single interest: fashion. I met influencers from varied backgrounds: sales, marketing, medical, and myself from IT.
On the streets of Manhattan, you will witness another compelling runway showcasing fashionistas personal style. I am amazed looking at how varied and beautiful everyone’s style was. If I lived in NYC, I would have gone to venues just to check out influencers outfits.
All shows are hosted in one location
Unfortunately, shows are held at different venues throughout New York. It’s better you check the venue and distance if you are attending more than 1 show on the same day before you RSVP for a show.
It’s ironic how my need to be a wallflower completely contrasts my love for bright colors. I am the kind of person who likes to take charge but doesn’t like to draw attention to myself. I feel like it predominately shows up in all my outfits since I tend to tone down the colorful piece by mixing it with a neutral color.
Today I up for a challenge to not be a wallflower but to be a showstopper in an orange monochrome outfit.
Last year, when I attended Pre-Fall 2018 Fashion Week last year, I noticed Orange was prominent in all the runway shows. The beautiful orange, that is slightly red than yellow, Russet orange also tops the Pantone color list this year. The beauty of this color is that it looks great on the colored skin as well.
Ann Taylor has been championing the colorful workwear lately. I have always been a fan of their clothing, lately little more because of all the fun colors they have been adding every season. Honestly, I never thought I would find work trousers in orange and that too for $41. Yes! both the trousers and blouse are on 40% off right. Below are all my favorites from the Sale.
Leopard is one of my favorite prints to wear. I love that it’s edgy, classy and timeless, totally right up my alley. Having said that, animal prints can be tricky to style. If not worn correctly, they can be overwhelming and even unflattering.
For this reason, a lot of people hesitate to even give it a try. The way I approach trends, I keep an open mind, I don’t jump to conclusions before trying them. If you are feeling lucky, leopard print is currently on trend, you will find plenty of items to try in the stores.
Tips to remember when trying leopard print or any animal print in general-
Wear only one piece of animal print at a time
Leopard print can easily be incorporated into your everyday look by adding neutral pieces like a black jacket /blazer, brown top, white tee and neutral shoes.
Bags– fold over clutch, cross body bags or a satchel in leopard go pretty much with any neutral color outfit. Only opt for pieces in true leopard color, don’t go for bold colors like pink, unless you know how to wear them.
Accessories– Leopard scarves is a great idea to add a pop of print to a neutral outfit. I love wearing them to work with cognac/black sweater/dress.
Add pops of Gold Jewelry
For a more elevated and classy look, add simple gold accessories like I did in this outfit by pairing the leopard skirt with gold coin necklace, and hoop earrings. Never overdo your animal print pieces with lots of accessories, you will end up looking tawdry.
An accessory can make or break an outfit. Whether it’s a statement jewelry, or vintage sunglasses or a scarf when done right can take your outfit to a new level. You can experiment with different styles by adding a simple accessory like wearing a neck scarf with a t-shirt dress will make your outfit chicer and dressy. Also, by simply switching accessories you can re-wear clothing items in various ways.
In today’s post, I am sharing what accessories are trending for Summer and fall.
1. Hoop Earrings
If you sum up the jewelry trend for this year, it’s statement earrings- The 90’s throwback earring trend takes me back to my childhood days making me realize how versatile they are since I used to wear them every single day with every outfit whether it was western or ethnic. I hope this trend never goes away.
The layered necklace trend is the new way to make a statement with jewelry. From layers on layers of gold necklaces, chokers paired with long chains, standout coin necklaces, these are some smart ways to update your jewelry this season.
Seashell jewelry is back in trend. They are usually worn by travelers as a lucky charm. Seashells evoke nostalgia for childhood summer days of collecting shells around the beach and hearing the voices of the sea by placing one near the ear
