Gully Gang Records just planted their ginormous flag by dropping ‘Gully Gang Cypher’ featuring a talented artist roster – Aavrutti, D’Evil, Shah Rule, Karan Kanchan.
For months there has been an intangible energy around DIVINE’s independent record label – Gully Gang Records. Desi Hip Hop fans around the world wondered and pondered about the artist roster that DIVINE’s team was cooking up. And today, all those rumors were put to rest with the official launch of Gully Gang Records with a cypher and a launch event at Raasta in Mumbai.
Watch the Gully Gang Cypher
The single which features fresh and up-and-coming hip-hop talent like the Kurla quartet Aavrutti, Mumbai hip-hop’s very own D’Evil, Shah Rule, and talented music producer Karan Kanchan, demonstrates the label’s endeavor to push emerging and exciting talent in Indian hip-hop.
Gully Gang Cypher features four artists and multiple languages – Punjabi, Hindi, Mumbai street slang and English – and is a punchy tale of ambition and determination.
JD, DIVINE, & Shah Rule
“I never imagined I would say this but I’m thrilled to put out our first project as a team in form of a cypher which is the rawest form of rap with lyrics being the soul,” – DIVINE
DIVINE went on to say, “I love every verse on that beat because it’s all different and everyone came with their own style. This is one of my favourite songs that has come from the scene. There’s Punjabi, there’s Hindi, Bambaiya Hindi, English, Hinglish…it’s a problem! I can’t wait to see how people react!” he adds.
Ranveer Singh, D’Evil
Both D’Evil & Shah Rule has been on a roll for all of 2019, dropping singles or collaborative projects. D’Evil’s Bombay flow and authentic, yet comedic, verses have trademarked him well. This is an emcee that is self aware of his capabilities on the mic and with the pen. He sticks to his strengths and does what he does best. A slow paced flow with comedic, satirical and sometimes hardcore bars when he spits. Thats a style thats refreshing and isnt going to fade anytime soon!
Shah Rule also adds his unique touch to the song – as a producer & a rapper. Shah linked up with 22-year old producer, Karan Kanchan, to produce the Gully Gang Cypher; and as a rapper, Shah came through with a tight flow & bars in English.
The single was officially launched as part of a new club-focused hip-hop property called The Scene.
Mumbai veteran emcee Ace has dropped a soulful, unique and motivating new single – “Aawara”. In his own words – “Aawara is a song dedicated to every wanderer with a dream, it is made to motivate them to never stop and never give up.”. Ace is no stranger to versatility and he proves his musical prowess with this song.
The instrumental to this track was produced by fellow emcee Rachit Shrivastava and Aakash. The beat is special, it combines a lot of different emotions into one package, and the melodic verse by Ace is top notch. Mixing rhythm, emotion and vibes into the song gave it a whole different angle. Aawara is a story of soul searching.
The song has been released by Zee Music Company – and has gained a great momentum within just a few days of release. Ace is in full comeback swing after dropping his last song “R.I.P.” dedicated to his late father. The new style breaks out a new Ace – an artist that has a significant voice and has had an impact on the Mumbai rap scene since the last decade.
Ace is currently working on a new album – and if this song is anything to go by, then we are in for a new level of Mumbai’s Finest music. Watch the track “Aawara” by Ace (aka Mumbai) and let us know what you think!

“Now I fit into the jigsaw, I’m not alone, I’m about to ride a Rickshaw coming home”
These are the words of Tracy De Sá, a young rapper, originally from Goa who has been growing as an artist in France. The story is an odyssey: She was born in India, raised partially in Portugal where she spent the beginning of her childhood, then moved to Spain where she grew up, finally established in France.
Retracing Tracy’s life means following a route of many thousands of miles across the globe. But in her latest music track “Rickshaw” she sings about returning to her roots, reconnecting with her origins and accepting her native ties. The music video was filmed between Mumbai and Goa and depicts the journey of an Indian girl rediscovering her country.
On one side an idealized India where coconuts take up the roads, the jewelry shines and people dance. On the other side the real scenery, where urbanity and nature contrast with concrete paths built between palm trees, railway tracks next to lakes and rickshaws that travel over the sand.
Every detail was analyzed with Bilitis Jolly Sharma, a French origin, based in India entrepreneur, who gathered a full team of visionary women for the production of this narrative music video. On this track produced by Tiery-F, Tracy opens up about how she feels with the idea of coming back home. After a lifetime abroad, she has constructed an identity that is based on multi-culturality, that has been nourished by different influences and has flourished through a river of acceptance that came to stick the pieces of her mosaic together.
“Rickshaw”, which is for her a symbol of movement and freedom, also represents the cliched vision of transport in tourist’s imagination. Therefore, she aligns the two, the will to stay connected to her mother land despite her career abroad, and her desire to neutralize all her stereotypes about this country and learn more about the depths of the culture. “Rickshaw” is also the last single, the missing part of the puzzle that completes Tracy De Sá’s first album “Commotion”, produced by Ovastand, which was released on the 17th of May.
The song has gained great momentum within a few days of release and steadily, Tracy is cementing her place in the soundscape of Global Desi Hip Hop. Watch the video below and spread the good music!
Mumbai based emcees Loka and D’evil come from two different generation of Indian Hip-Hop. This fact becomes apparent as soon as both of them are placed on a track together. The styles are vivid, the flows are different but there is a sync like no other. This is what happens when you combine the best of both worlds.
“Shot Deke Gayab” is a testimony to the distinct songwriting skills of these two artists who have been finding and carving their paths through the scene. The two have collaborated earlier with MC Altaf on “Jhol Jhal” but this song brings a new, fresh outlook on their list of tracks.
Shot Deke Gayab
There’s a whole new wave of emcees budding up for being the next big thing in the scene and Loka is one of the front-runners in that scenario. There is a distinct mic presence in each track of his and he adjusts his flow according to the beat rather than letting the beat take control over flow. That’s a skill of a good emcee.
D’evil on the other hand has discovered his signature style. This is an emcee that is self aware of his capabilities on the mic and with the pen. That’s what sets him apart from literally every other emcee in the scene. He sticks to his strengths and does what he does best. A slow, paced flow with comedic, satirical and sometimes hardcore bars when he spits. Thats a style thats refreshing and isnt going to fade anytime soon!

The journey has come back full circle for Dharavi based Hip-Hop pioneers Dopeadelicz. There is a certain level of respect that the team deserves for the moves they have been making. More so when you see the effort pay back in it’s due time. One of Mumbai Hip-Hop’s most anticipated videos by Stony Psyko (of Dopeadelicz) has just launched and is on it’s way to be a viral hit!
“Aai Shapat Saheb” is a song that was released around 2013, although not officially laid down as a track on their channels, the song became a huge sensation in and around Mumbai. Inspired by true events in the rappers’ lives, the song narrated and showcased the hypocrisies of the system in a simplistic and upfront manner.
What Goes Around
In 2019, Dopeadelicz have already played major music festivals and events. They have become highly coveted assets to the Indian Hip-Hop industry. Making waves pan-India in their own style and flow. This is a song that inspired many current Dharavi talents in a time when there were only two major Hip-Hop crews in their vicinity.
The music video to this song has done more than justice to the song, it has uplifted the essence of the song. Creative directed by Stony Psyko himself, the video reflects the exact ideas that ran through his mind when creating the song. The integration of multiple characters, the acting, the action – this is a music video that brings the emotion to real life, just what the song had done years ago.

MC Heam is criminally underrated. One of the pioneers of Hindi Rap, a true OG to the scene, Heam has uplifted and nurtured a community not just in the Delhi Hip-Hop scene, but continues to do so in Mumbai to this day.
As an emcee involved in growing the community, he knows the importance of the quality, presentation and authenticity of his material. “Ek Tha Rapper” was an unreleased song formerly titled “FreeFlow”. Produced by none other than the Indian Hip-Hop super-producer HHB.
The song was already completed in 2015, and has been a long time coming. Apart from performing the track at a few venues and events, Heam has kept the track under wraps for the past 3 years. But good things come to those who wait, and the video for “Ek Tha Rapper” is easily one of the best videos coming from the underground this year.
Heam effortlessly spits bar after bar twisting and mending his flows and kicking knowledge at the same time. The song speaks volumes of the skill sets of this true blue emcee. Words are his weapons and he is an expert marksman. HHB has produced a classic Boombap beat, adding the right flavor and sound to the beat and this accentuates the vibes of the track.
Tamu Studio has contributed highly in terms of the execution of the video. Mad shots, beautiful color and trippy graphics- this music video is a visual treat! Big ups to MC Heam and the whole team dropping knowledge in style. We await further music and videos from the artist!

After dropping his 2nd album, Bombay Soul – an album that is unlike any other in the Indian Hip-Hop scene, Mumbai based emcee Enkore finally drops a surprise track named “Solo”. This track has depth as well as insight into his personal struggles. Enkore has been a man of substance ever since he picked up the microphone. There are a thousand thoughts he conveys in a thousand different ways.
“Solo” continues the narration of his immediate struggles, his perspectives gained through life, and his experiences through this journey. With that signature Enkore style, the emcee wastes no time pouring his heart out on the beat. Coupled with metaphors and wordplay, the song is a vibe on its own.
Post Bombay Soul, Enkore is on his way to climb up the ladder and paving his own path doing it. He does not adapt to the culture, he lets the culture adapt to him. Being one of the most skilled lyricists in the country, there is a part of Enkore that stays grounded to his roots. This is also what makes him an artist to watch out for. He has not changed many aspects of his sound to reflect the scenes current wave. In fact, he has gone the opposite direction. Nurturing and cultivating a sound that will identify as unique and different from many that were before, and many that will come after.
This is what makes Bombay Soul a top tier album. It is nonetheless a personal album, but it reflects a side of Hip-Hop very few have yet explored. And the latest track “Solo” is another add-on to that same tune and style. This is a direction that highly skilled emcees take, and Enkore fits the bill. The video is skillfully shot and edited by Canfuse – one of the frontrunners in the music video making department.

Bombay Lokal is a name that resonates loud and proud throughout the Indian Hip-Hop Scene. The collective has been in the scene for a few years and are steadily spiraling upwards carving a name for themselves on each of their endeavors. Some of its members have also had their share of spotlight on the Bollywood movie “Gully Boy”, but the roots of the collective are far deeper than that.
Each of the collectives’ members have their own unique story. And this directly translates into the way they express their art and represent the artform as a crew. The team has been gearing up towards big achievements and the time has come for the collective to be largely recognized. Mumbai has a strong next generation Hip-Hop collective – one that stands by the culture and preserves the artform.
