Darling Escapes is finding that piece of paradise in the middle of chaos. That little of bit of sunshine on an otherwise grey day. That lust to know something so intimately that it becomes second skin. It’s that place that you can go that instantly feels like home- even if it’s the time first time you’ve been there. It’s finding luxury not in the place, but in the interactions.
So it’s the start of a new year, and you’ve decided that you’re going to travel more. Amazing. Nothing makes us happier than seeing people add travel to their bucket list. Travel can be the most enriching, soul-soothing, confidence-building experience you can give yourself. So, if you’ve decided to pull your list together, and are going to add more countries…
Party time in Bucharest. This is where the city comes alive. Seriously, one of our favourite things to experience is the Bucharest nightlife. As one of the lesser travelled Eastern European countries, Romania holds a special little place that you can come to party harder and party for less. Bucharest is still mostly unspoiled by the groups of hen and…
If you’ve never considered travel alone before, maybe it’s time to start. Traveling alone can help you recharge, gain confidence, feel empowered, and enable you to wander outside the boundaries of your comfort zone. Plus, going to a new place without anyone else lets you be fully in charge of your site-seeing schedule. If you’ve never traveled alone, here are…
I’ve been going back to Marrakech every year for the last five- for no other reason than because I’m in love with the sights, sounds, and hustle and bustle that comes with the energy of the city. And to answer the question of is Morocco safe? Yes. It’s safe to travel to Morocco. Marrakech is like any other city that…
Don’t think of the Shangri-La Bangkok as just a hotel. Think of it more as a resort located along the breathtaking Chao
Phraya River that is a gateway to some of the most fascinating things Bangkok has to offer.
Seriously, you cant even begin to understand the magical views at night.
Steps away from BTS and riverboats, the Shangri-La Bangkok offers not only easy access to anywhere in the city, but all the luxury pampering right at your fingertips. You’ll feel pampered head to toe as you enjoy a stylish, memorable, and comfortable experience.
Once you’ve had your beauty sleep, go out and shop at the beautiful malls, and don’t forget to stop by the Emporium, a luxury shopping mall located in the Khlong Toei district. But if shopping isn’t your thing, then check out some of the other top attractions that make Bangkok so unique, like the Buddhist Temple of Dawn (Wat Arun), with its gleaming tower rising to meet the sky, or the EmQuartier, a man-made cascade 40 meters high that lets you enjoy the road and the mist of this awe-inspiring waterfall.
The Shangri-La’s motto is behind every smile legendary service awaits, which is what you’ll get, plus the elegant comfort of the suites, particularly the Deluxe Balcony room which has either a river or city view and is decorated with Thai themes like silk and teak finishing.
Enjoy An Urban Retreat
Not only do you get to take a dip in a riverside swimming pool, play tennis, or try the well-equipped
fitness center, which also offers a range of classes.
Make It A Spa Day
The CHI Spa at Shangri-La offers one of the largest private spa suites in the city, which is ideal because as long as you’re in Asia, you might as well select from a variety of ancient healing treatments to completely restore your mind, body, and soul.
Try Traditional Cuisine
The Shangri-La Hotel offers an international range of culinary delights at one of their many restaurants. You can either enjoy traditional Thai food, or go for a wider variety in the international buffet on board the Horizon Cruise, the hotel’s private river cruise ship. You can also go for some authentic Italian food at the Volti Ristorante & Bar.
You can also step out right outside the hotel and have access to pretty much every cuisine your heart desires.
One of our favorite activities is taking the private cruise to Asiatique Night Market. Here you can get your fill of shopping, carnival rides, and food. The private boat is offered for free to all guests of Shangri-La.
There are so many reasons why we love Shangri-La hotels, and the one in Bangkok is allows for the perfect combination of relaxation and activity.

When we think about traveling for events, it’s usually fairly casual activities that come to mind. For instance, concerts, festivals, and sporting events are all popular draws. These can all make for excellent reasons to visit a given destination of course, but they don’t always blend in with a luxury travel mindset. In this post, we want to look at a few types of events that you can easily fit into a luxury getaway – and some of them even blend to some extent with the aforementioned categories!
Part of the point of exhibitions in museums, or at least traveling ones, is that they rove from one establishment to the next. Thus, to some extent, you can afford to wait for an appealing collection to come your way. However, museum exhibitions also give you a nice excuse to travel to some of the world’s biggest and most interesting cities, stay in high-end hotels, and dress up a bit to wander into museums. And you may be surprised at how far beyond basic paintings and sculptures some of the collections go. For instance, at the time of this writing the British Museum in London is gearing up for an exhibition on warriors of ancient Siberia, known as the Scythians. Through numerous recovered treasures, the exhibition will tell these people’s story. This sort of thing is a wonderful incentive to travel for art lovers (or history fanatics for that matter).
Film festivals are among the best events for travel, provided you make sure you’ll have access before you book tickets. Occasionally a film festival, or at least the most interesting parts of it, will be exclusive to people in the industry. Generally speaking though you can at least enjoy some kind of access, and usually the events are full of sharply dressed attendees, excellent films, and celebrities. With the best festivals taking place in locations like Cannes, Manhattan, Toronto, and Park City, there’s usually a lot to enjoy outside of the festival as well.
Formula 1 Competitions
You may have slightly less than luxurious images in mind when you think of professional racing. To a degree, it does seem like a hot and sweaty sport to witness! But while this can be the case, there’s also an air of exclusivity to Formula 1, thanks to its decorated past and some of the incredible destinations the tour travels to each year. That tour begins in Melbourne with the Australian Grand Prix, but tours to places like Monaco, Singapore, and Abu Dhabi throughout the season. Many of the destinations are great places to camp out in a high-end hotel and explore for a few days before watching the races.
Fashion shows are somewhat like film festivals in that they tend to involve sharp-dressing visitors and celebrity watching, and they’re usually situated in interesting cities that are fun to travel to. They can also be a little bit exclusive, so as with major film festivals it’s a good idea to look into ticketing options well in advance. But if you’re more interested in fashion than film, you’d do well to do some research about shows in cities you might be interested in.
This is a fun alternative to beer and food festivals, which are probably more popular for international travel. You may be surprised at how many international wine events there actually are, and in a way they’re even more interesting than your average beer festival. With beer, you can certainly get a taste of a given region’s breweries, but to some extent you’ll probably be sampling a version of something you’ve had before. Wine, at least if you’re relatively experienced drinking it, is usually more unique to its location, which makes the festivals all the more appealing. The events can get fairly festive – they’re not uptight tastings with small crowds – but they can still be enjoyed in the midst of a comfortable luxury getaway, usually to a beautiful destination.
Weekends away with the girls are amazing- weekends away with friends who are just as big of foodies as you are, are even more exciting. So, if you’re like us, and travel for food (true story), then Lambton County hosts a handful of activities including great food, great drinks, great people and a great time. With it being 2.5 hours away from Toronto, this beautiful escape is the best spot for a party with the girls. Lambton County is also known as Ontario’s Blue Coast and is home to not one, but two Blue Flag Beaches.
Both of these inviting and beautiful beaches were awarded this eco-certification due to their safety standards for swimmers and great water quality.
It is important to have a comfortable and welcoming stay while on your bachelorette trip. This is exactly what the Holiday Inn Sarnia offers. This welcoming and comforting stay is located in the beautiful marina setting in the village of Point Edward. Nothing makes a bachelorette party fun (and safe) like being able to walk back to your hotel from the location you were drinking at (and trust me, there’s plenty of places).
This inn is within 10 minutes, walking distance, away from the Bluewater BorderFest in Centennial Park. This is a very popular and fun option for a group of girls ready to party and let loose! The Holiday Inn Sarnia is also centrally located to shopping stores, parks and beaches. It’s definitely recommended that you wake up early and enjoy some great company with a delicious and phenomenal breakfast.
Nothing parallels a bachelorette party better than an indoor salt water pool with a whirlpool. Perfect for relaxing and hanging out. Pamper yourself alongside your friends with their heated amenities and sauna. To pamper yourself is to pamper your mind. Take yourself to the pool or ocean and relax for a long while. Pine Dale Motor Inn is just a short walk from Grand Bends famous beach. This inn is surrounded by gorgeous park-like gardens and is a great central for photos with the whole entire group.
The terrace at Alton Farms Estate Winery is covered in beautiful flora, making it a gorgeous and quaint experience. The greatest thing about this homey place is that the wine is entirely made from hand. Yep, that is correct, every glass of wine that is produced and consumed from this winery is made from hand. You can just taste the quality and pureness of the wine.
The process of making the wine by hand, significantly reduces the chemical input. This winery started out as a bucket list item for the owners, Marc and Anne Alton, and then shortly became a successful business and winery in 2005. Good wine and a fun time can not be passed up here.
The beautiful Lake Huron surrounds this bold and tasteful winery. Attendance to a bachelorette party calls for leaving all stress and worries back at home. With this amazing winery’s unique and original architecture, it’ll have you and your bachelorettes feeling stress free with some fine wine. Not only is this place perfect for relaxing, it’s perfect for hosting a wedding, so while you’re there you might as well look at the venue.
This awesome beach is one of twenty-six that have earned the Blue Flag award. It is a great and fun destination for any group. At sunset you can take cute and candid photos to fill up your favorite social media outlets and show that you, in fact, were there with the bachelorette party. The coolest thing about this beach is that you are able to rent beach and water gear.
If you’re ready to party on your bachelorette party, then this is the place. Bluewater BorderFest is Sarnia’s biggest party of the summer. In Centennial Park you get to dance around and see in concert your favorite Canadian and American artists. It’s such a fun time and thank goodness it’s staggering distance from the Holiday Inn.
It’s time for you and your party to get some ‘vitamin sea’ in on this beautiful 20 acre beach. Although the beach sounds huge, it fills up very quickly- especially on the weekends when tourists and the locals come on their day off. A perk to the beach filling up quickly is that you and your lady friends are in the prime spot for people watching. What a better way to spend the day than at the beach, with some drinks and nice giggles.
Parasailing is a must-do when you’re with a group of people, especially a bachelorette party. This fun and exhilarating activity brings you 1,000 feet up into the air as you’re being pulled behind a boat. As you are 1,000 feet above ground level you can see every part of this county, but you especially get a beautiful view of Lake Huron. This awe-striking view is one to die for. It’s a moment you and your party will never forget, hopefully like the rest of the weekend as well.
This fun, appealing and delicious food truck is perfect for a warm beach day. Its location is prime. Grab your food to-go, and head down to the beach with a huge taco in hand. This is also a great option for after a long day in the sun or walking around. There’s just something about a big ole tasty and authentic taco that makes everything in life so much better. One of the best things about this food truck is that its organic and locally sources its ingredients. You can easily split food items amongst you and the whole party of ladies, such as their desert taco. This fresh and traditional taco truck is definitely a must while on a bachelorette getaway.
With this fun and explorative trip to a beach town, you can’t expect to leave without a nautical food option. With a five minute drive from the Holiday Inn Sarnia, this place sits with a marina view- the best view in the county to be exact. Along with their incredible view, Alternate Grounds Dockside has incredible all fresh food. If you go on a weekend where the weather is quite poor, worry not. This restaurant has an amazingly beautiful interior view of the marina.
This sushi bar can double as a casual lunch or a girls night out. You can also call in and pick it up to-go. Sushi is the perfect complimentary food for a bachelorette party, so this is in fact the hot spot. It’s every sushi lover’s dream. If a girl in your party isn’t a fan of fish that’s totally okay. This amazing place also specializes in appetizers, salads, stir fries and more.
With its setting of an urban pub but the feeling of a Canadian Lodge, this is the perfect place to get your drink on with the girls in the party. Aside from getting your drink on, they also have delicious and luxurious meals to compliment it’s beautiful vibe. It’s just the perfect place to kick back, relax and enjoy.
Is it actually a bachelorette party without brunch? Absolutely not. Brunch is so much fun and is a must-do event while with a bachelorette party, especially in Lambton County. Enjoy your favorite brunch items at the Schoolhouse Restaurant with their traditional style of food. Everything is prepared from scratch the “traditional” way, ensuring the best quality ingredients on your plate. Fun fact: the “Schoolhouse Restaurant” was originally Grand Bends first school house first built in 1874. While you soak in some food and alcohol you can learn some new things about this building and county as well!
Living in Southwest Ontario means that you have quite a few weekend getaway options at your disposal- you’re essentially a car ride away from anything that you really want to get to. It doesn’t matter what you’re in the mood for- pretty much everything is at your doorsteps- from the stunning beaches to casinos, to one of World Wonders.
The best of part of having all of these options is that most of them are still undiscovered by the masses. One of these hidden gems is sitting right across the US border. The city of Windsor is not only full of stunning skylines, but also has a vibrant nightlife, and hidden gems around every corner.
Americans already know amazing Windsor is because a) the legal drinking age is 19, and b) the Canadian dollar is much lower- that’s why on any given weekend, you’ll find the bars, clubs, and restaurants full of Americans who are looking for a great time!
If watersports are your thing then you will absolutely adore this place- besides having the most chill vibe of any place we’ve ever visited, Urban Surf also serves amazing smoothies. Yes, their smoothie shop is something to write home about. Owned of the nicest and laid back women we’ve ever met, Urban Surf is the perfect place to get your feet wet, get out on the water, and get a work out in at the same time. A great way to work off those drinks from the night before!
A great way to work off those drinks from the night before!
Lunch at Taloola Cafe
What would you get if your favorite hipster and artist friend opened a cafe? Taloola Cafe is the perfect blend of rustic charm and quiet comfort. The entire cafe feels like you’re insides someone’s home- from the art on that way to the couches tucked away in corners, that homey feeling is also consistent with the food. We highly recommend the chick pea salad the nachos to go with your delicious smoothie.
Take an art walk on the river side
One of the coolest things that you can do in Windsor is to take a stroll through its unique museum without walls showcasing 31 large scale, internationally recognized works of contemporary sculpture by world-renowned artists at the Windsor Sculpture Park. Don’t want to walk all the way? No worries- There are free Art Cart Tours offered every summer.
Try your luck at the casino:
Located right on the river front, the Caesars Windsor complex has everything you could possibly ask for- all the slots (including Betty White and Micheal Jackson themed machines), great food, and live entertainment (Celine Dion and Bruno Mars have performed here).
Go for a sunset cruise:
Sunset cruises are just for couples anymore. They are a perfect way to catch some of the best views of the city while dining on a delicious meal followed by dancing the evening away. The 3-hour cruise provided by Windsor River Cruises takes sets sail right in front of Ceasars Windsor and is full of an interesting crowd, fully stocked bar and an onboard DJ.
Grab a coffee at a cute cafe
Ever walk into a cafe and think that it was made just for you? Or at least for your Instagram? Well, that’s March 21– the charming little shop located right in downtown Windsor. They not only make all of their own cookie and muffins (matcha anyone?) but they have some of the best coffees and lattes around. Oh, and the art covering wall is made to share. We dare you to not smile when you walk in there.
Master your golf game:
Yes, we said golf. Head to Rochester Place in Belle River to not only enjoy a round of golf but also be sure to grab a drink on their patio. The lush green space is the perfect place to watch the sunset and grab a bit to eat. With a full kitchen on site, there’s something for everyone on the menu. We recommend the cauliflower. It is out of this world. Also, if you’re like us, and the golf you’ve ever played is of the mini variety- fear not- opt for a 9 hole scramble stuff.
Goes by quicker than you expect.
Explore the outdoors with a hike or canoe ride:
More of the outdoor adventure type? The good news that is there is something for you too! Head to Pelee Point National Park to see all the wonders of this great region- you have easy access to the most southern point of Canada there. Also, a great place to canoe, bike, or go for a hike. Word of warning- the tip is extremely dangerous and not a place that you swim in.
The best part? Grab the Discover Pass and get access to all of Canada’s National Park’s for free in 2017!
Picnic at the beach
Are beaches more your thing? The Northwest Beach inside Peelee Point National Park is for you. With a newly built cover, access to a fire fit, clean sandy beach, and crystal clear blue waters- it’s the perfect place to get your daily dose of vitamin D. Amp your beach day a bit more but grabbing a picnic lunch from Bardt’s Butcher Block.
Windsor is a full of activities for the young and old- particularly if you’re looking for something fun to do with the girls on the weekend.
Located right on the waterfront in the city of Windsor, Caesars Windsor is the perfect place to situate yourself for a weekend away with the girls. Not only are you steps away from the riverfront, but are witness to some of the best views in the city.
While Windsor can be classified as an aging city (the low cost of living, combined with moderate climate is one of the main reasons why certain demographics are flocking to the region), it has so much more to offer in terms of entertainment. The beauty of heading to Caesars Windsor is that it is pretty much a destination in itself.
The sheer number of activities and regular events makes it entirely possible to just say in the complex during your entire weekend- particularly if you’re there for a girls weekend.
There are multiple rooms available depending on how much time you really think you’ll spend in your room- including suites that are larger than most apartments in the city- and most come with floor to ceiling windows offering remarkable views day or night that doesn’t disappoint. The amenities on offer, including access to the gym and indoor pool with stunning views, are also some of the best in the city.
And the best part? Caesars Windsor regularly brings in world-class talent from Celine Dion to Deadmaus, to perform, meaning that Vegas acts are available at Canadian prices! Yes, Ontario’s Southwest pretty much has everything you can ask for.
That’s right- the hotel has its own casino- or is that the casino has its hotel. Either way, there’s something really fun about being able to spend your evenings trying your luck at the Betty White or Micheal Jackson slot machine.
The Spa by Windsor Arms
Part of the Windsor Arms family, the spa not only provides all the services to doll you up but also has 6 treatment rooms for those days when you need a massage after a long night out.

EASIEST FORM OF TRANSPORT TO AND FROM HOTEL: Walking, shuttle, taxi
YOU CAN WALK TO: Downtown core, riverfront, parks in the area
It’s great to be right in the center of things when you go to a new city, but sometimes, especially if you’ve been on the go for a while, it’s nice to find somewhere that you feel you can still be part of everything but also take a step back from all the hustle and bustle. This is where Bay Bridge Hong Kong fits in beautifully.
More of a hostel vibe when you walk in but with the rooms and amenities of a hotel it is based right on the edge of the water, giving beautiful views overlooking the South China Sea. It, therefore, seems like a getaway from the busyness of Hong Kong but their complimentary shuttle bus delivers you to and from the nearest MTR station, allowing you easy access into the city- the perfect spot whether you’re in for a quick weekend or 5 days in Hong Kong.
One the best reasons that Bay Bridge is where you should stay in Hong Kong is because every room has its own private bathroom and kitchenette, so if you decide you want to cook for yourself for a night, everything you could need is available, there is a good supermarket right beside where the shuttle bus pick up is.
They do also have a restaurant on site where you can enjoy a wide selection of dishes while overlooking the bay. The staff at reception will help you organise any trips or sightseeing you wish to do while in Hong Kong, there are always plenty of staff around, all friendly and full of helpful information.
One of the best features was the 24-hour gym. The treadmills overlooking the bay and offering beautiful views any time of the day or night make it that little bit easier to run off any overindulgence in dim sum. If running or using the gym equipment isn’t your style then they do also have a steam room to relax in.
Anchor’s Seafood and Beerhouse.
The views from the restaurant are enough to make you want to chill out here for the buffet breakfast, lunch or dinner. There is a laid back vibe to this restaurant albeit the staff are very attentive and also offer a wide range of a la carte dishes.
Laundry and ironing room.
Perfect if you have been travelling for a while or just need to iron out any hastily thrown in clothes, this is a fully self-service laundry room with irons and ironing boards, they also provide a handy laundry tote bag in your room so you can carry your clothes down discreetly.
The Leisure Space.
This is where the hotel meets that great area between hostel and hotel. Though you have complete privacy in your own room the living space is where fellow travellers hang out to read, use their computers or chit chat. Great if you want to meet other like-minded souls and one of the reason for the Bay Bridge Hong Kong is where to stay in Hong Kong.
